Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Fandom Reaches Inevitable Conclusion with $20,000 Astarion Sex Doll

@Dalamar @BIG3 I meeeeean, I was here and on other sites and nearly every comment about SB was "The wokes want to censor our game!" I saw maybe two or three people saying the character was eye rolling/cringe. There was basically a French article no one read and about a billion responses to imaginary enemies. Are we also going to rewrite that whole thing as if there was any real controversy?

@MrPeanutbutterz I usually have a big open world game, an RPG or tactical game, and a few twitchy arcade games or fps going at once. I definitely skew towards more arcade stuff, but when I want to relax I'll throw on a big open world thing to just zone out. Works for me. I keep trying w AC. They've all felt so milquetoast, and like they play themselves. At least Origins is in Egypt?

@gollumb82 I've said out loud several times while playing "I think I love this game." The haptics when shooting on the Portal feel amazing too, which is something I wasn't expecting. I am really glad I decided to give the game another shot. It's also hilarious, which is tough to nail in a game. I'm pretty surprised.
Zero chance I would say Starfield comes close to the character and charm of TOW. I also just don't dig the giant procedural world as opposed to TOW's curated one. I'd like some more fun traversal, but that's my only gripe so far. I want to fly around and perch on things and snipe, things like that.

The Outer Worlds, still. It's funny that I've heard this game is super short and I'm over fifty hours with like thirty percent completion. I don't fast travel all too often in games like this, and I guess that might affect the total time...but I still have a ton of quests to do and I've barely touched the main quest line. I love the game so far. I'm really glad it clicked cause I've been having a hard time finding something that I can get invested in.

@ProfessorNiggle ehhhhhh, but also, and I keep saying this....but aren't a good deal of the people complaining about Yasuke, torii gates, and historically incorrect architecture etc the same ones that scream about DEI and Sweet Baby Inc? Cause those kind of things considered culturally insensitive are why firms like Sweet Baby exist. To screen for things like a one-legged torii gate that invokes maligned historical events. It's a huge game set in a period that probably takes a lot of research to nail. Spread over probably thousands of developers "From all creeds, religions, races, whatever," right? I'm not here advocating for Sweet Baby or firms like them, but these people acting all upset about the sanctity of architecture need to understand that creating feudal Japan might be like, hard.
I don't care if someone is offended by a game, and I'm about as left as they get. Changing goal posts is getting old, and just shows how performative it all is.

@ProfessorNiggle AC Shadows is really interesting and depressing. They finally broke the emergency glass and pulled out the Japan setting, and everyone just let the fire spread cause the firefighter was a black dude. I mean it's a joke, right, but I want to hear some response to the outrage from Ubisoft once the dust settles. I mean real responses that we weren't meant to hear. I'm sure a lot of higher-ups were shocked.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Hasn't Removed Yasuke, But Dev Focused on Historical Accuracy

@Tobiaku I'd never read an article so obviously written in bad faith. I also wasn't kidding. Projects this huge should probably have some screening from a firm that knows what it is doing, if they want to avoid all of this. I personally don't care who is insulted. But it's coming to light that a lot of people who will support all of the nasty vitriol really like acting insulted. Or they have incredibly thin skin. It's like a need for attention I rarely see. At least a lot of bigots are learning some history and um, architecture? They need attention and a rigorous dedication to the sanctity of architecture. And racism.

@Paultall I'm trying to understand what this post means. White libs that start up a controversy and then hide behind...someone? Something? I'm about as liberal and white as they come. I work at a shelter and have DEI and trauma informed trainings. It's helped a lot in my work. I'm also a combat veteran and sole breadwinner with a wife and seven kids. One is trans, a few are gay. My wife does lgbtq advocacy while she finishes out her degree. We contain multitudes...
If you think our politics make us spineless, that's a shame. We actually live our values, which is more than I can say for most.

Re: Ever-Evolving, Live Service Experiences Like Fortnite Are 'the Future of Gaming'

LikelySatan

I wonder if anyone remembers what a joke Fortnite's development was? It was an actual punchline, for years. People would go see it and talk about it and get hit with "that's not a real game, stop making things up" because it was floundering and rudderless for so long. Epic is lucky PUBG came out and gave them an idea. They were probably pretty close to giving up on finding the fun.
This won't last forever. Seems they've forgotten that.

@Art_Vandelay I don't have any social media so a lot of the time I'm behind on the terrible culture war mess, but was there really a "side" celebrating cancel culture? I can think of a few celebrities from the right and the left that were "cancelled" because they were poison to advertisers. I've just always kind of rolled my eyes at it. You become a brand, you get bought and sold.
