Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Horizon Forbidden West?

Mezzer

@kejsi-sensei superior to the first game in all aspects but you are right also. It's familiar but to be fair that can't be helped...having PS4 in its roots hurts it with regards to gameplay. Open world games are unfortunately getting stale ,no matter what they are. This is one of the very best. No doubt . Hopefully if there is a third game it drops the PS4 and allows fresh choices in gameplay?.

Alot I agree is a character that I am not invested in at all...but that's okay. It's a video game , I can live with that as other characters are good and this is one area where the game really jumps up over Zero Dawn.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Horizon Forbidden West?

Mezzer

It's a 9 and it's Superior to Zero Dawn. It's time to change up the game for part three...or just leave it here.

Forbidden has taken the open world genre as far as possible. Gameplay wise there is not much more that can be done within the confines of the design.Dropping PS4 is a potential way to do that though...

Re: Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Shipping a Week Before Launch

Mezzer

@snoopae it will be a phenomenal game but it's online requirements mean it could be short of some parts at launch?. GT Sport gave lots of free updates ,items etc...well worth it in the long run... It maybe similar with GT7?. Phenomenal game but maybe missing a feature or two at launch.

Interesting to see how the base version holds up?

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Drives Strong PS5, PS4 Digital Sales

Mezzer

@Medic_Alert You say this but I don't want a digital copy of my games. Bare in mind that all retailers put PS4 game prices around the same price of PS5 disc now. I've noticed this trend at many outlets. Sometimes £5 less for PS4 . Before the PS5 launch I never paid over £40 for a PS4 game on Disc.

Grid Legends. £55 on PS5 and PS4....disc. Shops are now exploiting the free upgrade PS4 path and are pricing up the PS4 version...sly and clever and nothing stops them.

Re: Elden Ring PS5 Patch Planned to Resolve Save Data Issues

Mezzer

@Medic_Alert Bloodborne was good but I was hindered by its performance. More so the frame pacing.

On PS5 though...no need for these performance and frame pacing issues. Technically it's still looking like a cross gen game.. no where near Forbidden Wests quality of visuals...and that game never drops from 60fps.. Not comparing as it's different funding and engines but From Soft can never get this right and it does put me off...so much so that I almost returned my copy as time is hard to come by to game these days....

I've kept my copy but will concentrate on finishing Forbidden West...then Cyber not it's a native app...then GT7 and maybe Elden Ring at a later date?.

Re: Elden Ring PS5 Patch Planned to Resolve Save Data Issues

Mezzer

And the performance please. I had a quick look when my copy arrived. It's clearly a great game but not with that performance. It's seems frame pacing is a problem also?

I've gone back to Forbidden West. 30 hours in and not a single drop under 60 fps so far... technically it's on another level. From Soft have got away with these technical issues for years but it's not good enough. Even too spec PCs are having the same performance issues. As I have PS5 disc version I can't downgrade to grab the PS4 version via back compatibility...that cures the performance by the way. Works perfectly running the Pro version on PS5.

Re: Playing Elden Ring's PS4 Version on PS5 Might Be Your Best Bet for a Stable Framerate

Mezzer

@Shinnok789 yes but it's not right is it? Your hard earned money, looking forward to playing it tomorrow and you hear it's rough on performance...

It's put me off starting my adventures on PS5...unless I can choose which version when I put my PS5 disc in?. If it allows me to install a PS4 version then I will use back compatible... apparently it's locked at 60fps but it's pretty much the PS4 Pro version.

Re: Elden Ring (PS5) - Likely Another FromSoftware Great

Mezzer

Sick of From Software and the poor performance. This is a deal breaker for me. Blue Point masterfully reimagined Demon's Souls at 60fps and it stuck that target. It was also the first Souls game I beat as all the others I got fed up of due to not having enough time to spend in the games.

I may return my pre order until performance is sorted out. Strange that no other reviews mention this on console....

Re: In the UK, 70% of Boxed Horizon Forbidden West Buyers Paid More Than They Needed To

Mezzer

No, they did not. I wanted a physical disc version for PS5 as I do not do digital games.

Also more criminal is that the shops that sell games upped the price of the PS4 version to be close to PS5.

Where I purchased my copy I paid £61 PS5 disc. The same shop put the PS4 version to £56... I paid £38 disc for Zero Dawn at its launch.

Shops exploited the prices of the PS4 version to be near PS5 when they heard about the free upgrade.

However you look at it. £60 or £70 is disgusting for a video game on PS5. I never paid more than £40 on PS4.

Elden Ring is costing me £42 on PS5 disc.....

Sony should be brought down for this pricing on PS5. Don't except it.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West PS5, PS4 Shimmering Bug Solved

Mezzer

@Chibbie exactly. Huge open world tends to equal bugs unfortunately. Most won't matter but some could hinder some player's?

My big issue is the checkerboard performance mode and the upscale shimmering on vegetation and trees. It such a stunningly detailed game but this shimmering needs to be fixed and should never have been released in this way. I have put the game down now and won't get time to go back. Will go back to Cyber 2077 as it's update to native PS5 is excellent overall .

This is why I dislike modern gaming. Release a game and patch it later. It's business. I started gaming late 70s and have seen it all ,pretty much and my time these days is hard to find so releases like this are a killer for me, especially when issues that distract gameplay are at the forefront. Such a shame and a surprise as generally Sony first party games are sublime at launch.

I can't play at 30fps. It's like running in treacle. I've spoken to John at DF in the past and 30fps on an Oled TV is not good... especially in an action game.

They should have went with native 1440p at 60fps...no need for checkerboard rendering...hell I would have taken 1080p at 60fps if it killed the distracting shimmering.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5?

Mezzer

@Gunnerzaurus unfortunately modern gaming is more about numbers than gamers.

Nothing more pissing annoying than looking forward to a top tier game and on day one it needs patches as it's not finished or full of bugs. As a veteran gamer my time for gaming these days is harder to find and yet I still buy day 1 on games I know I want ..even though there are sometimes issues that need patching. Ive cut back this past year though unless it's a Sony first party title...they generally have a high level of polish and the patches that do come are minor and don't stop gamers player a game.

It's the big multi plat games that are the worst. Open world's are a bigger too, especially with their shear size. Bound to be patches needed on games with over 20 hours of open world exploration to do as the minimum. It's modern gaming.

Cyber was quite the shocker and was clearly pushed as a top tier PC game. Project Red generally push PC hard over consoles.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5?

Mezzer

I put about 40 hours into the PS4 version via back compatibility on PS5. I thought the game world and design was extremely good and fresh. Game clearly needed far more time in the oven and should have been delayed for another 6 months...

PS5 native is a huge step up in all areas but there are some odd performance issues in the performance mode in two busy areas...it's not really a hardware issue as it's not incredibly taxing. I would guess cross gen issues that are too hard to update or most likely and in my opinion a too low of a gap in the dynamic Res application. I think it's 1800p in performance?. I feel it needs to drop near 1080p to hit smoother fps in the market area and the hub outside Vs starting apartment. Just needs a harsher hit to resolution to free up room ...otherwise I've had no issues with the game upon starting a new save. It's actually an incredible world to explore with a very mature and gritty world full of interesting characters..

Same performance issues on SX by the way.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Version Out Now

Mezzer

@Godabove09 textures are alot better, resolution is much higher (performance mode)...there is a hit to performance in that original area when you leave Vs apartment for the first time, where it's full of people and cars.... Detail on pedestrians is alot better and most objects. Not seen pop in or ***** shadows etc like previously. I spent 40 hours on the non native PS5 version...non-issue with saves .. just disappointed that there is still performance issues in busy areas...it's not bad, but it's there.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Version Out Now

Mezzer

As soon as you step out into the world after leaving Vs apartment....the performance takes a hit with minor stutter...when going to meet Jackie...with the increase in pedestrians ,cars etc...shame...

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Version Likely Launching Tomorrow

Mezzer

@nessisonett Not really. They can't predict release dates in the modern age of gaming...and Cyber was officially released last year. An update patch and it's date is arrival is not really key. Many people will have the game and be happy to jump in free on PS5 if you already own the game

Elden Ring is a niche game. Not many people will buy it ...yes it's Popular but it's potentially rock solid difficulty will keep alot of casual and non serious gamers away as with all From Software games..

Forbidden West will certainly have it's sales and it looks phenomenal and plays well too...but I don't think the cyber patch (if it happens) is bad timing.

Re: PS5 Owners Ponder What Sony Is Playing At with VRR

Mezzer

Why are we relying on it?. I do have a VRR TV . I had it before the PS5 launch. Let's be honest here. Most PS5 native apps have been super optimised and lock a very good 60fps. VRR should never be an excuse for poor optimised games....

Even on my SX games have generally been locked at 60fps and even with dips and VRR off you have to be super sensitive to notice as the CPUs in these new consoles are superior to last gen.

Of all my new gen console owning friends only three are using a fully 2.1 spec TV with VRR and ALLM... I also go into customers homes with my job and hardly any of them have a good 4K HDR TV let alone VRR...

Make of it as you will but on PS5 I've never found the lack of it an issue so far...

Re: Sifu (PS5) - Kung Fu Brawler Is Brutal But Brilliant

Mezzer

I was so much looking forward to this game until I heard about it's frustrating progress. I love everything else about it but hate frustrating or games with high difficulty/punishing progress levels.

The reason I hate this is time. I have gamed for over 42 years and just don't have that time anymore to invest in games of this type that are structured to be hard or risk/reward. I already have a huge list of games to get through and being self employed, with a family I have had to start turning these types of games down, as much as I would love to try it.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Dying Light 2: Stay Human for PS5, PS4?

Mezzer

PS5. Was on the fence but so far it's far better than my expectations. Performance mode (the best way to play). 60fps is the most important part of this new gen gaming not RT etc (unless both is combined). It's slick and solid on PS5. I flipped to quality and resolution modes and once I saw the sludge like 30fps I switched right back to 60. It's a game changer in a game of this ilk with its brilliant movement system.

Re: Elden Ring Looks Utterly Essential in PS5, PS4 Gameplay Showcase

Mezzer

I've only ever enjoyed Demon Souls Remake(beat it) and that was because I had the time off to play it and Bloodborne. I've never got into other From Software games...mainly due to time and not having enough to learn the mechanical side of the game and the process to beat enemies and bosses.... especially when you have three systems and buy quite a few games... I will grab Elden Ring and I hope it's a bit more forgiving so I and others with less time to invest can enjoy it?

Re: Talking Point: In Theory, Could Xbox Game Pass Come to PS5, PS4?

Mezzer

@GADG3Tx87 Sega,Capcom,Konami and Square have a history of great IPs but are far from the development teams they once were....The Japanese gaming scene is nowhere near what it was. They once pioneered gaming, along with some European studios.... Nowadays it's alot of same old American hyper money releases...some good, but most offer nothing fresh or original.

Re: Poll: Does Sony Need to Take Action After Microsoft's Activision Buyout?

Mezzer

Sony is a gaming company. Along with Nintendo it makes and has historically, the best games.

Microsoft is after another another market...it's looking to be a gaming Netflix...it's fighting a slightly different battle...it's also one that I don't like as a subscription serves all in the future is not why I gamed for over 40 years. Sony and Nintendo will move forward as that's life but I don't think they will follow Microsoft as it's not Sony...and it's certainly not Nintendo.

Gaming is about games and Sony provides a superior level of in house titles and has more than enough studios to keep us happy..

Next 4 months. SIFU, Forbidden West, GT7...Ghost Wire Tokyo...four exclusive games...could say five with the updated Uncharted Collection?... On top of that is Elden Ring...HUGE big games.... Why all the drama?. Enjoy gaming.
