@Fight_Teza_Fight It doesn't even have to be a scaling thing. Dreams is such a weird and unique game, I'm sure it required a bunch of jobs that you'd normally not find in a regular game dev studio. They also had a very big social media presence, and had probably working people on that too.
Of couse, we don't know how this is affection people within MM, but I wouldn't be surprised if these jobs were specifically tied to Dreams.
@LifeGirl LMAO. That's the point. The game is not about fun and joy. It's supposed to make you feel anger, disgust, and hatred. And that's the brilliant part of it, they succeed. And I genuinely don't mean this in a sarcastic way. It's one of the best experiences I've ever had, because they don't care about a happy ending, and they explore emotions you normally don't experience in a game. Combine this with brilliant combat, amazingly detailed environments and one of the best AI systems on the market; it's really one of my favourites.
@Fizza Live service games work a little different than regular games. Any other game you can release as a failed and broken product, and any sale is still better than none. A live service game is just a money drain whenever it goes live. You just need to make sure that people are paying more than it costs. So if you suspect it'll fail, it makes more sense to not release it at all and save the costs, rather than release it.
I still hold the opinion that a short Gollum game could've been nice, but I would've liked to see it being developed by an in-house studio like this with quality control, rather than the monstrosity we got.
I rarely play online. I bought PS+ like 4 years ago and I stayed for the free games, but in hindsight I haven't used that much either. I think I'll just let it lapse this year.
@ArmoredMore You can't really prove it either way, but they could've ripped the game's animation files and straight up copied them. It's not that difficult.
@PenguinLtd It's not a bad premise at all, the game just doesn't it justice. If there were a ton of LOTR games released every year, I could see this as a unique take on the franchise. The character is interesting enough, and I think there's some fun stuff you could do story wise.
@themightyant There's even zombies and ''regular'' non-force magic in SW. It hasn't really made its way into the live action stuff yet, but it's in the cartoons, games and books.
True sci-fi shows like Star Trek go out of their way to explain how everything that happens maybe somehow ''scientifically accurate'', even though it isn't most of the time, but there's an attempt. SW is like any other fantasy show that says screw that, I'm gonna do whatever I want; but it allows it focus more on other elements of story telling.
But yeah, the distinction can sometimes be a bit blurry, since most sci-fi media requires some kind of unrealistic presumption.
@nessisonett God of War had a bunch of locations that weren't interconnected. And it worked for that game. You even had a menu when fast-travelling to select the location you wanted to go to. Yes, it was all cleverly disguised as in-game stuff, but in the end it was just another menu you picked from.
I prefer it like this over another sprawling empty map in between locations that add another pointless 5 minutes of mindless walking to get from A to B.
@Mince It's actually quite impressive they've supported the PS4 for this long. Remember the PS3 to PS4 transition? Old consoles always had a pretty clear cut-off point when the new one came around.
@Vacuumator That was the first thing that came into my mind as well. Probably some kind of AI system that is able to switch between different dialogue types on the fly, maybe even AI generated from a single recording instead of multiple.
ND worked on both Uncharted and TLOU at the same time. They are a big company. I wouldn't be surprised if they were working on something not long after Lost Legacy. So I expect something other than Factions and TLOU3 to be revealed soon-ish.
Also it was strange hearing Ellie give birth to Ellie. Although it was a neat little surprise/reference, Ashley Johnson and Ellie are the same person in my mind, so it was kinda difficult to separate the two.
So, what I remember/dread most during this section in the game is the clicker infested tunnel right before the hospital. I was hoping for some good clicker action in the final episode, but alas. At least there was an infected in the game, for a mere 3 seconds, but it's been more than some other episodes.
I don't know, the whole show felt rushed. The clickers didn't feel like a treat. I thought they were building up to that with the whole underground hive-mind sense thing they set up in episode 1 or 2, but nothing really came out of it. Almost all clicker sections were skipped in favour of the human interactions and side stories. Why did they need to sacrifice Ellie in this show? The infected were hardly a threat, it's been mostly other people. At least in the game the infected were always a lot harder to deal with than the human encounters, so it made sense from a ludonarrative perspective. But in the show? Not really.
@LeeHarveyOzgod With only 9 episodes, one dedicated to Left Behind, and one to Bill's backstory, the entire story has to be told in just 7 episodes. So it's going to feel rushed either way. The irony is that the game isn't that long. 10-15 hours, depending on your playstyle. If this show had 10-12 45+ minute episodes, there would be plenty of screen time to cram everything in your want.
And yeah, the lack of clickers is very disappointing.
@SleepyNick I don't think it's either. The problem is simply that the show is shorter than the video game, even if you remove all the gameplay bits. They inject a bunch of new story lines, but at the expense of the existing story, so it all feels kinda rushed.
@Grimwood lol. Reading this article I was wondering, why would they announce it for PS5 and not PC? Is it out on PC already? Did I miss it?
I'd like it if PushSquare, NLife, and other affiliated sites would just list all the platforms, now I have to resort to google because the article is missing information.
@NEStalgia Yeah, people tend to forget that in VR you literally see twice the resolution compared to these images, because there's one going in either eye. The output to the TV is only one of them, because the system isn't going to allocate more computing power towards producing a better looking picture for the telly.
I think it has been said before, but I'd also appreciate it if the title and picture didn't spoil the episode. I don't even have the time to watch it until later today, but it's impossible to avoid spoilers on PushSquare.
2023 in general seems a bit empty for Sony. What have they got lined up for this year? Spider-Man 2, which will be good, but it will also be the third Spider-Man game in a relatively short amount of time, so it needs to be more than just the sequel. But other than that? Nothing so far.
Yes, they had Horizon for PSVR2, but that's not really an option for all PS5 users. No Astro Bot announcement for PSVR2 seems odd though.
TLOU Factions? What is Media Molecule working on? What about Bend? SP? Aren't Santa Monica and Guerilla Games supposedly working on two projects? If Insomniac was allowed to show off that Wolverine game I don't know how long ago, then I think it's perfectly fine having something else to look forward to. If SM and GG worked on those secondary projects in tandem to GOW2 and Forbidden West, then I cannot imagine they are still a long time away.
Sony is like "we'll pay you a million a month if you keep it exclusive, but you don't have to sign anything, so it's not an official exclusivity deal"
"Also, here's an NDA and don't ever mention it."
Jokes aside, for indie games this is not too uncommon. But on the other hand, the systems are so similar, it would be very easy to bring it to Xbox, so why not do it? Even if it only sells a couple of thousand copies, that's still profit.
@RBMango Yeah, the show feels incredibly rushed, which is weird, since the game isn't that much longer in terms of runtime, and you have many ''slow'' gameplay sections in between the story bits that were never going to be in the show.
I do find that the infected are very underrepresented. So many cool and tense sections were left out of the show for no reason at all. The sewers with Sam and Henry for example. The whole university section felt rushed too. I think another episode or two could've really helped the pacing of it all.
I thought that the four episodes left were enough for the dam, the university, the winter episode and the finale, but apparently the next one is going to be Left Behind. Which kinda explains why the university was crammed into episode 6.
I wonder if a 1 or 2-episode season 1.5 would've worked for Left Behind. Just like the DLC, something to watch later this year while they're working on season 2.
@add286 IMO it's just not good in general. Look at the average Xbox announcement and the top rated comments are "GamePass when?" I fear that these subscriptions will lead to more frequent, but smaller and rushed games. Perhaps with additional MTX to counteract the low sub cost. No different from the Netflix model; quantity over quality. Sony already said they're committed to more live service games.
@Wheatly It's very low effort (not in a bad way, just that it doesn't require much resources) to crank these costumes out. It keeps the game and IP in the media I guess. Brand recognition. Someone probably calculated it's worth the costs. And it's free stuff from Sony, so it's not bad publicity.
I don't think it's to get people to jump back into the game. Nobody is going to play it for a new costume alone.
I'm actually thinking of cancelling my pre-order. They won't be sold out, and with Horizon being a digital-only €70 game, I think I'll wait for a discount anyway.
I won't complain. The way it ended meant that I didn't want to wait another week anyway. It felt like the first half of a two episode arc, assuming they end the next one where I think they will.
I hoping they don't skip the sewers, we've barely seen any clickers and I don't like it lol.
@PegasusActual93 So is Kratos lol. The TV show will be about the Norse story arc, not the Greek one.
I mean, I heard he has some back problems, so I don't know how comfortable he is running around. Maybe a stunt-double to do the action stuff? I don't see anyone else able to portray Kratos IMO.
@ThomasHL GOW 2018 is a brilliantly told story (Ragnarok feels a little rushed in comparison), but it doesn't need a TV adaptation to tell that story, the game already does it well. Like, I understand them wanting to try it with a game or two. But the idea of ten of them releasing in the coming 2 or 3 years is just insane. At least half of them are bound to flop by the sheer fact that they're planning on releasing so many of them.
This trailer didn't really do it for me, but it also didn't show any real gameplay. I looked for a gameplay video and that completely changed my mind. Release trailers should always include some gameplay footage IMO.
