I do not own a single digital game for my ps5, everything is physical. The only digital games I have are the free ones from ps plus

All the publishers jumping headfirst and doubling down on Live service games are going to be recording huge financial losses soon, which in turn will lead to more lay off's within the industry.

I hate live service and I fail to see Sony having any sucess anywhere near the level Fortnite, as the game will need to be everywhere like pc, mobile, xbox, switch to hit that level.

I really don't think this will end well, and now they are spending even more money on them, the fall is going to be even bigger.

I watched a trailer for the game and it just looks like a mass murder simulator and one of the levels looks like a school massacre. As a father of 2 I find it disgusting, what is wrong with people that it is entertainment for them. Troubled indeed

@Ben7982 i agree Sony would not want it, and i believe they have said that already. And looking to the future with Cloud gaming, why would they go to that cost and years of development time, when they could just stream it to your TV with a gamepass app like Samsung Tvs and Gefore Now do now, and let you use the dualsence or any other controller. Makes alot more business sense to me

Just getting gamepass onto PS or Nintendo would be a huge task as a proportion of the games are not even available on PS or Nintendo.

How much effort would it be to port every single xbox 1st party game to PS and or Nintendo for gamepass, never mind all the other games. It would take years and years

I very much doubt gamepass will ever come to Playstation, as Sony would not want it on there, and MS would not want to share the sub cost.

There is a chance, but it is incredibly small my opinion.

Kratos was awesome in Raganarok but the Atreus sections were boring and bad in comparison. Easily the worst parts of a great game

While Sony did recently announce record revenue (as the article points out) their total profit was actually down. The devil is always in the detail.

They even reported in their last financial statement that they predict the PlayStation business profit to deteriorate due to promotions etc (The recent sale price of the PS5 and not raising the price in the USA are 2 recent examples that spring to mind)

While I strongly disagree with them doing it, I imagine this is a knock on effect of that and the writing has been on the wall for some cost savings.

@get2sammyb when the subscription is not tied to a single piece of hardware, you don't need hardware adoption to drive it, that is the whole point

@get2sammyb is that not what happens when you need a Nintendo console to play Mario, and you need a Playstation to play Spiderman, but you don't not need an xbox console to play xbox games.

They moved beyond the console years ago, but people keep comparing them in console sales disingenuously

@SleepyNick you could be correct, and maybe it will have long sales legs, but I always expect Mario titles to have the longest legs. Some of their evergreen titles seem to stick around in the charts forever, and deservedly so

Only 1 week at the top for Spiderman 2 is suprising as its a long established hugely popular IP that has reach even beyond gaming. For that reason I did not expect the sales drop off to be as large as it was

I have enjoyed Ragnarok and Forbidden West, but I don't think they were as good as the previous games.

Sony has been knocking it out the park with production values, but the games have not evolved enough from last gen for me personally. I have not played Spiderman 2, I will eventually, but I get the same feedback from people who have completed it. Good but not as good as what came before.

I think their games need to evolve as they all getting samey and stale for me. Its ubisoft 2.0

A few games and various publishers have used the Sphere recently, and it's looked awesome everytime

a new Resistance or Sunset Overdrive would be top of my list. I enjoyed them both and I am burnt out on Marvel

@Serialsid and it was the highest selling game last month, despite being ons gamepass day 1, so the advertising worked. That's the job of marketing, to sell the game.

They spent $6 billion for gamepass content, as we found out during the abk trial

@PsBoxSwitchOwner because you need a Playstation to play FF16, and a Switch to play Mario, but you don't need an xbox to play Starfield, and Bethesdas main audience has always been on PC for decades. I hope people are finally understanding lol

@Kevw2006 there's no way for any of us to know that. All we can go off is public statements or statements under oath, which have confirmed that they do not measure their sucess based on console sales, but they do use MAU as an example

Playstation sell consoles so they can sell software, as that is where they make the money. Its the only way they can sell software.

You don't need an xbox console to play xbox games. It is pretty obvious console sales are not their yard stick for sucess. It's a different business model.

Don't take my word for it. Just read industry analysts or Microsoft themselfs under oath during the abk trial

@Serialsid BGS main audience is on PC and always has been, so their games were never going to be console system sellers, as the majority of their fans already play on PC. Why would you buy a Series S for Starfield if you already own a PC for their games.

@Powerplay94 you can also stream it to a device you already own like a phone or tablet. No need for an expensive pc or console. Their business has evolved beyond console sales

Koei Tecmo do publish on xbox mate, what are you saying lol. Things like Dynasty Warriors, Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden, Warriors Orochi, Wo Long etc etc. They even publish on gamepass day 1 like Wo Long

Grainger games, Blockbuster, EB, Gamestop have all closed for good near(ish) to me.

5 GAME stores have closed within 45minutes and we are left with 2 completely pointless tiny satellite shops in Sports Direct stores that sell more Funko pops than games.

Tesco, Sainsburys etc no longer sell games in store

The only brick and mortar stores i can think of that still sell games are Currys and Smyths and the sections are not good

As someone who still buys and prefers physical media, the writing is sadly on the wall. Its going to end up like PC gaming in the not too distant future

Yes there was. The original contract was for COD and all other ABK games, the one that was signed only included COD. It was well reported, not sure how you missed it tbh.

Jim Ryan turned down the all games contract and decided to fight the merger, and ended up signing a COD only contract once he burned all his bridges...

I am as happy as anyone that the live service game crashed and burned, my only concern is the amount of resources they have already took from single player games.

I imagine several studios are not going to have anything to show us for years, if not almost the entire generation. And as a gamer that sucks
