With only 28% voting it good or better, I am not sure I would go with that headline to be honest.
The poll responses are heavily leaning towards a negative reaction, and that's a poll on a hardcore Playstayion fans website.
If it was a summer games fest, it would of been alright (apart from the lack of gameplay throughout)
@AdamNovice it will be the same type of live service garbage we have seen fail a hundred times already by many other publishers, with far bigger pedigree in multiplayer than Sony. The cgi reveals were a distaster. They belong in the bin
Zzzzzzzzz. This is the live service future I have been vocally against. Everyone kept saying Sonys games would be different, don't worry. How wrong they were.
Some good games we're shown, but the lack of first party and all the cgi trailers made it a bad PS showcase. But there was some good multiplats and spiderman looked good if you enjoyed the other games
@UltimateOtaku91 could be interesting mate thanks for the heads up. I read the link and it says the money would be for image sensors and entertainment. Let's hope its single player devs and not live service/mobile devs they plan on buying!
It's not been a good few days for PlayStation news personally. Let's hope tonight's showcase doesn't have much live service garbage. They need the best showcase ever after 2 years of silence, and live service and mobile is not what I want, at all.
I feel a bit down reading this and other previews. Alot of the issues identified, like basic repetitive combat, not really being an rpg and level design being extremely linear corridors are things I personally hoped would be different.
As it's the only ps5 exclusive game I am hyped for this year, I have my fingers crossed it comes good. But it's been a bit disheartening reading this and all the other previews. Surprised that quite a few have mentioned that the graphics are not that amazing, after it was hailed as a true next gen showpiece. Same happened with Forspoken
With the UK government grilling the CMA tomorrow, and the PMs comments about mergers encouraging uk growth, it will be interesting to see if ABK is mentioned. Rishi Sunak keeps talking a big game about investment and jobs in the UK, but there will be far less if the CMA blocks mergers based on nascent markets such as cloud gaming. The PM talks a good game, but authorities have knee capped him completely. The EU looks far friendlier to business and investment at the minute
@WaffleDee my guess is CAT will agree 10years is long enough when talking about a nascent market like cloud gaming, just like the EU have. Legal precedent is not on the side of the CMA
I tried to tell everyone that this wasn't over yet and it was way to early to be high fiving the other week. Puts the CMA in a trickier situation and makes their decision look irrational, not good for them at the CAT appeal
Game is so dam good and I only just got to Hyrule. Spent ages in the tutorial island just exploring and having fun.
Games as good as this don't come around too often, and the interactivity with the world makes most other AAA games like feel like window dressing.
Really wish I had the time to finish Ragnarok before Zelda, as its going to be hard going back to limited, non interactive game worlds for a while. Zelda is just awesome
I tried to tell everyone it wasn't over yet when everyone was celebrating and high fiving eachother the other week saying the deal is dead. People celebrated way to early, you dont celebrate at half time. We really need to just wait this one out if the EU does pass
Until ps plus gets some day 1 games it will always pale in comparison to gamepass. Recent titles like Monster Hunter Rise, Wo Long, Hi FI rush or even Sonys own MLB are just some examples.
Alot of the titles listed in the article like Riders Republic, Doom Eternal, DmC5 or Back for blood have already been on gamepass earlier. So it's not really very good. So as a multiplatform gamer, there is only 1 "winner" and its gamepass at the moment
There is some truth to what he's saying. Even if they make some great games, doesnt mean they will gain market share, as people already have big digital game collections and friendship groups on other platforms. The ps4 generation was a terrible one for xbox. It was the worst generation to lose, and lose badly. Its why Nintendo pivoted to a hybrid console after the total failure of the wii u.
This article pretty badly misrepresents what he says to be honest
Microsoft were publisher of the year in 2021 and nobody cared and stil say "xbox has no games" there is lots of evidence to support his theory
After so many lazy games which are released broken and buggy, we need more optimisation and better code, not more powerful hardware. We have barely seen what these consoles are capable of, we need some next gen games to actually release before we even think about other consoles. Most games are still cross gen. This is stupid and taking away some of the point of having fixed hardware. Will probably just buy a PC next gen or play on something like the Asus Ally as consoles are becoming pointless if this continues
Looks like more of the same from the trailer. I played the demo and thought it was really bad. But i thank them for the demo, saved me money from buying it. You know its just not a very good game when it has the same metacritic score as Redfall.
@KundaliniRising333 good observation. I don't think the current trend of releasing broken games will stop, until people stop buying and supporting broken games. Publishers only understand money. But hardly anybody cares enough to stop buying them, they just preorder the next one, and the next one, and the next one. I'm not really sure of the answer, but we really need to find one, as it's getting worse not better. As you mentioned, you cant even trust the gaming media to be honest, because they are afraid of being blacklisted. It's a sorry state of affairs
@KundaliniRising333 i agree. It's like they learned nothing from Cyberpunk and countless other games. The gaming media should not be giving high scores to fundamentally broken games, it's a terrible look. Some people will have purchased this game based on reviews, only to get it home and realise its hot garbage at the minute. And people wonder why we get $70 broken games constantly....I'm so exasperated with the whole situation
@mus422 Its still a disaster in performance and resolution mode even after the day 1 patch according to Digital Foundry. They have tested PS5 and PC so far, after the day 1 patch, and technically its a joke on both platforms. Not fit for release.
Edit: DF new video actually has the Series S as arguably the best platform, yes it drops RT, but it performs the best. You know your game is broken when the Series S is the best version lol
@thefourfoldroot1 good points, its sometimes easy to forget we are in our little "hardcore gamer" bubble here. Maybe if the reviews were not so glowing for a broken game, then the wider public might have some more information to make a more informed decision.
But who am I kidding, its Star Wars, the general public would buy it regardless, that's one of the reasons why they released it completely broken I guess. And I say that a someone who loves Star Wars
@GodofCapcom I hope you enjoy the game and the issues are not so noticeable for you. I don't wish anyone to have a bad experience after spending their hard earned money. The fact it reviewed so well, despite numerous game breaking bugs and terrible technical shortcomings is a topic for another day. Its another issue I am exasperated with, its like nobody learned anything from Cyberpunk
@GodofCapcom Digital Foundry found below 720p resolution and huge performance problems in the Performance mode. Resolution mode has severe performance problems aswell with drops to and below 20fps. Ontop of that they found numerous graphical bugs and game breaking bugs. The game should not have launched in that state and I really wish people would stop buying broken games, then maybe publishers would be less inclined to release broken products. In this digital day and age there really is no reason to preorder or buy at launch, its not as if they are going to run out of digital copies to sell.
@get2sammyb PlayStation has strong digital sales no doubt. But Xbox is the dominant digital console. I know its only 1 game, but this article is a good read as we rarely get the full picture.
"In terms of digital, Xbox was the dominant platform accounting for 41% of sales, PlayStation accounted for 34%, PC 18% and Switch 7%.
Overall (so including physical retail), PlayStation was the biggest platform with 39% of sales, followed by Xbox (34%), then Switch (16%) and finally PC (11%)."
Highest digital sales on Xbox with a substantially smaller install base. Sales split fairly close after digital sales included. The physical charts are nearly useless these days when determining if a game is a sucess or not
Why are people still preordering and buying broken games at launch? When a game is broken like star wars, people should not be buying it and sending a message to the publisher that it's OK to launch games in such a state. It's a tragic mess on all platforms after watching Digital Foundrys videos on ps5 and pc. Not good enough by a long shot
I mentioned that game sales had declined for years when everyone was celebrating in the ps plus/gamepass article the other day. Subscriptions may be slowing in growth, but tradional game sales are going down not up. Not really the celebration of the tradional game sales market everyone was making out.
@LordBakemono gamepass ultimate already exists and works on PC, mobile streaming and console. And in the future, I think more companies will follow this model of a unified subscription that works across various devices. I don't have to dream, it's already here lol
@UltimateOtaku91 Nidhogg was a fun boss fight. I enjoyed it. Took a few goes on no mercy im not ashamed to admit! It's kinda funny we got the game at the same time, and a week later we are at the exact same point! Glad your enjoying it as much as me.
@Ambassador_Kong he is just one of many analysts who are predicting a sucessful appeal. I actually don't agree with him on this, my guess is the appeal has a 50/50 chance.
@Stormageddon the uk government do have the power to overrule a CMA decision, but I imagine its a rare thing to happen. But it is possible
@UltimateOtaku91 I think your right, 50/50 chance is probably my prediction aswell. I just finished Freyas quest to end the magic that is stopping her traveling the realms (I'm trying to be vague as I don't want to spoil anything for you) really enjoying the game but I 100% prefer playing as Kratos that's for sure. Are you further than me?
@UltimateOtaku91 the latest figures I found was the cma were sucessful in 67% of appeals, so about 2/3rds they win. I'm not sure who will be correct, but I don't agree with the article that analysts are predicting an unsuccessful appeal, as plenty are predicting the opposite. Only time will tell, but I wish it was over and we could all move on. Hope you enjoying Ragnarok mate!
@get2sammyb "Although analysts predict this is unlikely to succeed." I've seen alot say the opposite aswell. I'm not sure that part of the article is really accurate
Eurogamer did an interview and Pierre Harding-Rolls said "the appeal has a chance of success"
Michael Patcher says it will 100% succeed on his podcast
Foss Patents thinks the appeal will be 100% sucessful on his blog
Alot of analysts have been predicting Microsoft will be sucessful in appeal
I don't know how this will play out, but I don't think the appeal is as difficult as the article suggests, but only time will tell.
I believe that a subscription future is inevitable, one that works across multiple devices, not just your console. Mobile, console, pc, streaming all under 1 subscription.
It may not be in the next year or two, but it is inevitable. My son and daughter do not think physical media is important, most of the services they use are subscription, they have been brought up in a world full of them. I was not. There is an entire generation that holds no value to physical media, they are the future, not old people like me.
Only time will tell if it happens, but I would much prefer a subscription future over a live service future, as that seems to be the choice at the minute with most publishers pushing one or the other
Good review. I enjoyed the first one despite its flaws. I am OK about the lack of adaptive trigger use, as I really dislike them, especially in action games where they just get in the way. Look forward to trying this after Ragnarok
@Kevw2006 I'm tired of all of it. The experts, the mud slinging all of it. I play games for fun, and this topic has sucked all the energy out gaming for well over a year. I was hoping today was the beginning of the end. Not the start of a new beginning. The prospect of another year of this, is the sadest part of all of it. I'm just over the whole topic and couldn't really care how it ends. It's just boring now

The poll responses are heavily leaning towards a negative reaction, and that's a poll on a hardcore Playstayion fans website.
If it was a summer games fest, it would of been alright (apart from the lack of gameplay throughout)
But as a playstation showcase it was beyond bad.

Zzzzzzzzz. This is the live service future I have been vocally against. Everyone kept saying Sonys games would be different, don't worry. How wrong they were.
Re: Alan Wake 2 Is a Digital-Only Release, $60 on PS5
@UltimateOtaku91 I will be waiting for a sale aswell if its digital only
Re: Reaction: Sony Flubs First Proper PS5 Presentation in Over 18 Months
The lack of gameplay was mindblowing. Nearly everything was a multiplat game and a cgi trailer. Completely pointless
Re: Reaction: Sony Flubs First Proper PS5 Presentation in Over 18 Months
Some good games we're shown, but the lack of first party and all the cgi trailers made it a bad PS showcase.

@Majk_SVK I hope they enjoy them, but I do not.
Re: Multiple PS Studios Working on Mobile, As Sony Targets Smartphone Boom

Re: Sony Aiming for At Least Two Big PS5 Exclusives Each Year Across 'Every Major Genre'

60% is way 2 high and very concerning that PS are headed in a direction that I and alot of others do not want them to

I hope for less sequels and more new games or at least liong dormant games. Everyone's lists seems so boring. Predictable and cookie cutter
Re: Random: Like Clockwork, the Fake PS Showcase Leaks Are Back
After 2 years, if that leaked list is accurate (its not) , the show would be pretty dissapointing.
Sony will need to do alot better than that fake list for the showcase to be a sucess after the long silence
Re: PlayStation Showcase Finally Announced for 24th May
I hope its mainly first party. After being silent for so long, a bunch of 3rd party and indies is not what I am excited for

All I see is live service games dieing all the time. Sony could be in trouble betting so heavily on it, only time will tell
