@get2sammyb Yeah, that game was delayed by a month, though. There are definitely other factors like who the publisher is and how much of a hurry they're in to get it out in time for the holidays. It's just a general rule of thumb.
I spent about four months without stable internet not that long ago and buying new games was a nightmare. A lot of games go gold in really shoddy states, but they work miracles for the day one patch, and it's not a problem as long as you can download it.
At this point, games launching with performance issues is part and parcel with AAA game development. If you want to be in the first wave of players then you’ll have to accept those issues. Players that pick it up later will pay less and have a more polished game, but they won't be part able to participate in the hype and peak conversation about the game. The choice is yours as a consumer...
All this gushing over rumble takes me back to 1997 when everyone was going mental over how the Rumble Pak transformed Lylat Wars for the N64. The more things change, the more they stay the same...
Will all PS4 games run on PS5? If I fire up Fallout 76 on a PS5 will it work as it should, will there be any improvements, even if Bethesda doesn't update it?
I’ll see how things play out. But this is definitely a blow to the PS5 from my point of view. I’ve played a lot of Bethesda games on PlayStation, they might have even been my favorite 3rd party developer.
I think, RDR and AC Odyssey killed me on this genre. Open world fatigue is real and I have it. Though, I could see myself playing it in a couple of years, or so.
Yes, I have no problem with the way things are going. You pay more for a game, but it keeps you entertained way longer. New games for Mega Drive / SNES were extortionately expensive. And forget about the the NEO GEO. Gamers today have it easy.
Digital. I can’t be arsed with discs, boxes, trade-ins or any of that gubbins anymore. Yes, I’ll be at the mercy of the PlayStation store, que sera sera.
@carlos82 yeah sounds like it’s worth playing for those reasons, the gameplay improvements like you mentioned, production quality and attention to detail. Just a pity this isn’t a landmark in video game history like the first one. Neither was Uncharted 4 to be honest. Naughty Dog’s PS4 output hasn’t been as important as it’s PS3 efforts like TLOU and Uncharted 2.
@carlos82 at the end of TLOU Joel made a decision. He followed his heart and put his own self-interest above the greater good. Then he lied to Ellie, the person he was meant to care for the most. He chose for them to live a lie instead of facing the brutal truth. How they told this story was wonderful, revealing basic human instincts and the fragility of the relationship between self and society. How without hope, there is no reason to care for others...
Now all I’m getting from Part 2 is violence begets violence, gotta break the cycle. That’s something I learned in primary school. Also respect the feelings and rights of 🏳️🌈 people. Again, pretty basic stuff. I really get the feeling they had no inspiration for Part 2, so they just decided to make a shocking plot twist then map onto it some virtue signalling.
I was waiting for a thread like this. I loved TLOU 1 even though I wouldn’t say the gameplay is the best, especially the boss fights and repetitiveness, but anyway, it’s just about the best, most moving ending to a video game ever. Absolutely nails it, in a way that stuck with me for a long time.
Now I know they killed Joel in the first few hours of the game, I’ve seen how they did it. Screw them. I have read through all the text and all the comments and just don’t understand why. It seems like they destroyed a great story to serve a lesser one. I will have to play it one day, but unless I’m missing something, I just don’t see the purpose of it.
There was a time I was looking forward to this game, but the conclusion of TLOU was so perfect, I don’t particularly want to debase that feeling with what appears to be a controversial effort on their part. I’ll wait and see, maybe once a spoiler thread gets up and running here on PS, I can see how bad it is.
@Tharsman yeah that’s the point. My Mrs. can’t tell the difference between the PlayStation and the digital receiver, and I’d rather keep it that way. Really don’t need the ‘ohh look at you with your fancy new toy’ comments.
I was a big fan of the TLOU, and was looking forward to TLOU 2, but after just watching a leaked cutscene, i’m going to need to be given a good reason to play this game.
I get the feeling this isn’t going to be the game for these times.
@LieutenantFatman Agreed. But hopefully the disappointing sales for their other games like The Division, Far Cry and Ghost Recon might have persuaded them to try something different. Ubisoft open world game are too formulaic!!!
I'm not interested. It's just going to be a new overlay for the same game. The worlds are too big, and the missions too mundane. It's all paint by number from one location to the next. They need to focus less on the scope because it leads to regurgitating the same stuff again and again, and try to forge something original that better intertwines the setting, the characters, the story and the gameplay.
@themcnoisy Mario was a lot better than Chuckie Egg, Joust, Gianna Sisters, Chuck Rock, Prince of Persia, Ruffian, or any other mascot platformer of the time. Only one that came close was Sonic.
Some of those games you mentioned like For Honor and Steep aren't better than their classic counterparts like Street Fighter 2 or 1080 Snowboarding. The graphics are better but the gameplay is not as engaging. Even with updates they would not have kept me more occupied than my MegaDrive or N64 games. And LOL at getting stuck in the Water Temple.
Interesting comments section lol. Just want to add that disposable income for games doesn’t always depend on age and salary. You can be grown up, have a high salary, a nice house, nice car, all the lastest mod cons, and still be scrounging around for a free game or a big discount just because you’ve squeezed your personal entertainment dollar so much. So don’t assume that they are a kid or poor.
The true MVP of the PS4's launch was watching PlayRoom Livestreams. Let's see what they have up their sleeve this time... Do not underestimate the power of PlayStation!
I bet it helps that they are working on great games that everyone reveres. It would suck a whole lot more if you were putting in all that time and effort to make a mediocre game that everyone has forgotten within a few weeks.
The problem with Odyssey is that each island felt like a copy and paste. They need to shake up the formula, not just integrate new game concepts. It has to feel like a world, not a by the numbers playset. It’s a shame because Origins had seemed to be a great relaunch of the series.

4 is the best. I couldn’t believe it when I played it. Totally reset my expectations for future games. The story, the characters, the gameplay, the pacing, the atmosphere, the length, the variety... everything was on point

10/10 from me. I haven’t played it, but liked Infamous Second Son a lot.
