Re: Reaction: Sony Continues to Fumble the State of Play Format

If Sony did these maybe once a month or so, then expectations would be more in check, and we'd know that not every one of these can be jam-packed with stellar announcements.

But, when you go completely silent for months on end and finally decide it's time to get our attention then you need to show up with the goods.

There's just no real benefit to the larger companies taking part in E3. They've all learned that they can do the Nintendo Direct style shows and command attention whenever they want.

I've always loved E3 and watching all the big press conferences, but sadly it's just a relic of a bygone era.

Looks great, and you can definitely see a lot of effort went into this remake. Personally though, it's just hard to justify paying full price for The Last of Us when I've already played through it numerous times on both PS3 and PS4, and I have a growing backlog of other games to play. Will pick it up down the line when it's eventually on sale.

E3 has the history, and the beloved brand name, but I have a hard time seeing major publishers being convinced it's the right venue for their big announcements.

In the current age of State of Plays and Nintendo Directs it's easy for companies to get their message out there any time of the year.

I'm not feeling optimistic, but as someone who loved watching E3 press conferences growing up I'm definitely hoping they can pull it off.

Re: Sony Leaks The Last of Us: Part I for PS5, Launching 2nd September

It just feels so bizarre to me to remake a game that's only 9 years old, that's also already been remastered.

I love The Last of Us (parts I and II), but it just feels like Sony's first-party resources could have been better utilized.

With all that being said though, I'm sure this will end up selling a ton, especially with the HBO show on the horizon. A full $70 USD price feels a bit steep too. Hopefully the improvements go further than just a graphical overhaul.

Re: Soapbox: I Really Miss E3

Even though it doesn't really make sense for the industry anymore, I can't help but miss all the excitement of E3. I remember when Sony would actually air their E3 press conferences in movie theatres, and went to one a few years ago and had a great time.
