Re: Tactical Shooter Insurgency: Sandstorm Pulls the Trigger on PS4 Release Date

nathanSF

It's a bit risky having the enemy in Arabic militant masking. Sure, being a recognisable differentiation of who the enemy is works well. But the problem is that just as many Arabs fighting on the Allies side against terrorists wear the same gear - so this portrayal tarnishes them all with the same brush.
The choice of enemy is more controversial and less clear cut than WW2, sci-fi enemies or specifically identified factions or groups like we find in Modern Warfare.

Re: Soapbox: 7 Things BioWare Needs to Fix to Rebuild ANTHEM

nathanSF

Bioware screwed up big time. I actually deleted all trace of it from my PS4 and trashed the disc. I went and bought all the DLC and expansions for Destiny 2, which I already had and am having more fun with that.
Anthem had a character and story base that had phenomenal world building potential. There were characters in Fort Tarisis each of whom could have provided all manner of story driven game play but as you say, we got missions by numbers that quickly became mind-numbingly mundane. Raising it to its full potential I think is nigh on impossible and like other people have already said, it should be torched.

Re: Outriders Gameplay Reveal Leaves a Lot to Be Desired

nathanSF

It looks okay enough to make me want to keep it on my radar to see how it develops. Though it's going to have a tough time against BGE2 and Cyberpunk 2077 which I'm really looking forward to.
Division bored me quicker than i expected and as for Anthem. I got so frustrated with it I broke and binned the disc and wiped it from my machine.

Re: The Last of Us 2 Is Set to Be Naughty Dog's Most Mature Game to Date

nathanSF

Ugh. Naughty Dog cashing in. Take me back to the days when ND made games that were 'games', and we played them for fun.
I always welcome various equality, diversity elements as just a natural part of the game's (books, films, TV music) world, the story, characters, relationships, narrative, etc. but I've a very strong feeling that ND are being so nauseatingly desperate to jump on a bandwagon and try to be uber contemporary, 'right on' and 'out there' that its embarrassing.
Having played all the Uncharted and Last of Us games I see a clear 'weighing down' of the games themes/look and feel over time. Uncharted 4 narrative wasn't as easy to swallow as 1, 2 and 3 but it was still fun. And TLOU put other factors before entertainment (and just managed to get away with it) so in some ways the current news is not surprising . I don't welcome it. I'm just biased and have this notion that games should be "games", fun entertaining escapism - which covers a broad enough range of experiences to be had Puzzles, shooters, racers, horror, adventure etc. I guess it's a subjective thing.

Re: Rumour: ANTHEM Reportedly Not Dead as BioWare Plans Major Overhauls

nathanSF

I loved the campaign and side characters - each of whom had enough potential back story to create fascinating twists but these were quickly dead-ended. Bad mistake. I stuck with the game because the world, co-op and combat was fun to occasionally jump into. But last week I tired and frustrated by all the niggling faults, I deleted the game and binned the disk. It'll take one helluva reboot to get me back. I'm mostly angry Bioware totally F**d up what could have been a top notch game and story.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Has a Gruesome Easter Egg for Sadists

nathanSF

@oldschool1987
Hi, No, not got the game. Still unsure about it - not because of the controversy. Not sure I'm still into the genre. I did buy and play all the other MW and Black OPs. I'm inclined to wait and dive into Cyberpunk 2077 and Beyond Good and Evil 2.
Having said that I might be convinced to give MW a shot.

@oldschool1987 The Nazis were National Socialists, not socialists in the conventional sense of the term.
Socialist would say 'Workers of the world Unite'
National socialists on the other hand take the ideology of 'unity of the people' as a common cause and restrict it to a particular country or ethnic group.
A bit like it's good to be a patriot but how patriotism can be taken to the extreme, and exclude any loyalty of migrants who may have even served in that country's military, police and public services

Re: Guide: When Is PS5 Coming Out?

nathanSF

@Neolit Yes. Thanks.
I decided to check out Eurogamer for more info and found the same link there. The Wired piece could have been written better. I came back here to comment and found your reply.
Appreciated anyway.

Re: Guide: What's Included in Destiny 2: New Light?

nathanSF

Still a no from me. A couple of months ago I deleted the Destiny 2 bundled with the first two expansions I had pre-ordered. It got too messy for my liking. I wiped it the same day I wiped Anthem.
Anthem had so much potential and they just blew it. Watching the Spurs game last night was a similar experience.

Re: Erica - FMV Masterclass Worthy of Your Attention

nathanSF

I played the story through from start to finish yesterday evening. It's pretty good and I plan to have another run through today. One downside is there is no Android app, only iphone, so I had to play with the controller touchpad - which wasn't a real problem as long as you were careful

Re: Reaction: Sony Swagger on Display with Insomniac Games Acquisition

The low key announcements are a stroke of genius.
It presents the announcement like the discovery of a trinket of information that when fully uncovered exposes a far greater and more important story.
The usual method of a big, fanfare announcement would have come across / be interpreted as another takeover story of a mega-corporation with all the accompanying risks and downsides.
Also it doesn't come across as grandstanding or trying to steal the limelight.
