Re: Outriders Release Date Reveal Planned for Tomorrow

nathanSF

I've a funny feeling Outriders will bomb. I can' see anything that lifts it from the crowd. It's a well constructed shuffle of what's gone before. Sure some of the supers are pretty cool, but is that enough.
I think Anthem was a turning point in these looter, shooters; it hit a wall and exposed the limits and challenges of the genre and now we all want more and different.
I'll be going into Cyberpunk 2077 on release, coming out only to jump into Ghost of Tsushima for a bit of Samurai Action every now and then. Aside from that, saving my pennies for a new 50-55" TV next year some time.

@Starkei: I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for satire I can tell you I don't have a sense of humour, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let off with your comments now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you.

Re: UK Retailer GAME Quietly Adds £10 Delivery Charge to PS5 Pre-Orders

nathanSF

@mookysam There's a podcast about deaths in Amazon warehouses. (USA)
Only found this: https://www.revealnews.org/article/behind-the-smiles/
Worst ones was a guy, untrained, who was crushed by a forklift and dead body left for over an hour. Their lawyers worked with city officials to scupper the investigation and the city investigator lost his job as a result of trying to do his job., The family were screwed out of their promised compensation.
Another one was a gas leak where supervisor told to tell workers to carry on - she called emergency services who ordered her to evacuate and Amazon docked wages of all workers.
Lots of other awful stories about unsafe conditions, backhanders to city officials.
For us in the UK it's the loss of revenue for public services through Amazon not paying taxes. Ironic since its those same public services that ensure people are healthy, basic education, etc and have other services enabling them to get to work and do a days job. I always buy from everywhere except amazon

Re: PS5 Pre-Orders: Where to Buy PlayStation 5

nathanSF

@gmxs
Same. the complete bundle sold out in seconds.
I got the Disc version with headset and extra controller.
I went online straight after the stream and kept refreshing the page until they came up.
Wasn't able to log-in though so went through entire process of entering details.

Re: Reaction: PS5 Price Under Scrutiny After Disruptive Xbox Series S Reveal

nathanSF

@JJ2 Same here.
I've been looking at a 48-50 inch 4k and it seems the LG CX is the only one with HDMI 2.1 and VRR etc. But the problem with OLED is Burn-in.
I'm going to wait for the next-gen mini-LED coming out later next year. lower energy, sharpest images and no risk of burn-in.

Re: Reaction: PS5 Price Under Scrutiny After Disruptive Xbox Series S Reveal

nathanSF

I don't think Sony will rush out a price just because Microsoft have. Last thing Sony want is to look like they're reacting to MS lead. My guess is Sony will remain calm and let things settle, so when they do reveal the price it will be more about what you get for the money.
I can see them throwing in a few months of Playstation Plus and Playstation now to sweeten the deal.

Re: Marvel's Avengers Rubs Salt in the Wound with Spider-Man Sticker on PS4 Box

nathanSF

@Deadhunter Agreed. I could only manage around an hour before I lost interest and uninstalled it. I can't help but think that the influence of the MCU Avengers and superheros as characters - relationship, story arc, greatly overshadows the two dimensional game characters controlled by button mashing & QT events.
It would have been okay to say "no need to develop characters players can relate to, that's all been done in the films' if the characters looked and sounded like the MCU characters, but they don't. Thor gives a close enough approximation of the Thor from the first film and I suspect Hulk is chosen as the first guy we get to control because you can't go far wrong in what he looks like (unless you go back to Lou Ferrigno)

Re: PlayStation Spain Teases PS5 News, Trolls with Sony Bravia TVs

nathanSF

I looked into getting one of the new, smaller (48-50") OLED TV with HDMI 2.1 and VRR. Seems if you want quality then only the LG CX delivered this. If you want HDMI 2.1 on a Bravia you'll need to go with the latest LED models 55" and up.
Problem with LG is that their arrangements with subscription based streaming services isn't that consistent over time - unlike the Bravias which run Android.
So I'll be waiting to see what else Sony come up with.

Re: Oh, Crap! The Uncharted Movie Hasn't Started Filming At All

nathanSF

@Taylorzombie agreed. But have you seen the photo he released of himself on set as an older Nathan Drake? As I suspected, his real age allows him to play both a teen and adult character with not much make up. Here's the link again - sure, it's more a twenty something Drake but definitely not a young teen.

Re: The Uncharted Movie Has Finally Started Filming, Tom Holland Reveals

nathanSF

Tom's a good choice for an adolescent Nathan Drake. He has the right look - not too old to be an arrogant know-all and not too young to be naive and ignorant of worldly matters. His experience in playing the party of Peter Parker / Spider-Man also provides the right balance of ordinary guy - hero characterisation. It's an inspired choice by the casting director - and excellent use of Sony resources

Re: Poll: Which Version of the PS5 Do You Plan to Buy?

nathanSF

@bbq_boy Same here. esp the box artwork and extras.
It also means we can slot in our PS4 disks (hopefully there'll be enough compatible ones)
I wonder, if we bought a physical version of a PS4 Game then buy the digital only PS5 what happens with games that Sony say can be transferred over for free?

Re: The Last of Us 2's Aerial Kills Are Wowing the Web

nathanSF

@thefirst You make some interesting points. I never got into the Walking Dead. And maybe I could have expressed my thoughts about ND base starting position differently. Sure, they wanted to deliver a good game that played differently and presented us with an alternate take with the accompanying emotions, themes, perspectives etc. But did they have to? No, they could have done all that with a different game completely. Overall I think there's a domino effect of failures in the game. Okay, you can't pick one scene, aspect, attribute of the game and use it to universally fault the game, that would be wrong and unfair. But taken as a whole, you can argue the game 'sucks'. It's not just a betrayal; rather it is because the first game is used as the instrument/baseline for all the themes and issues in the second game that it fails. It was a great idea, a very risky /delicate operation to pull of - and this is where ND failed.

Re: The Last of Us 2's Aerial Kills Are Wowing the Web

nathanSF

@Cloud39472 Change.org are a bunch of freeloaders, a profit making company that will take on any petition that might rake in some cash.
The problem is that ND were more interested in being 'controversial' than delivering a game that's immersive and engaging in a satisfying and fulfilling way.
Sure the Journos and pro's loved it, "ohh Neil, your story, it' so brave, so controversial," Ego's are bufffed up on both sides,

Re: The Last of Us 2's Aerial Kills Are Wowing the Web

nathanSF

@thefirst "everything about the game is excellent. Except the story."
Surely the story is core to everything: the emotional manipulation, forcing you to witness and carry out offensive, disturbing actions, shifting perspectives and POV just for effect, to get an emotional reaction, bizarre plot twists and inexplicable character decisions at the end.
It seems ND just wanted a game that broke all the rules and conventions and the "Professional" game journalists got off on it because they could feast on the deconstructionist elements.
I can understand the rift between Journo reviews and reviews of gamers who just loved the first game and simply wanted to enjoy a similar story with much loved characters. But no, Druckman et al wanted to show how clever and deviant and radical they were.
I've done anthropology, Narrative, film, media analysis, discourse theory, psychology. TLOU2 is the product of "lets see how many conventions we can rip up and shock people with" and have produced a Frankenstein's Monster of a game.
