The average consumer isn't a game journalist. But I've been interested since the first trailer. Looks like they learned their lesson from FF15, and I prefer action RPG over turn based / ATB. So once I get around to getting a PS5 and FF16 eventually goes on sale... I'm in!
There sure are a lot of rogue-like games. Especially in the indie scene. Seems like a flooded market. Is there really this much demand for it? Procedurally-generated anything feels very soulless and bland to me, even among the best of them like Dead Cells and Hades.
I like the idea of taking Splatoon, putting a new spin on it, and having it available on multiple platforms. But I have a feeling this will be like all the Smash clones out there. Lacking the charm and failing at getting the gameplay mechanics refined enough to even be a good "second place" title. Like that Warner Bros title.
This is why I don't have a PS5, and avoid buying consoles early. They keep doing crap like this. I like unified generations, where software is optimized for what you have. Better than the Series S situation, I guess.
Genie was charming but the gameplay was awkward. Which is understandable for a very small studio. It was a perfect psplus game. That being said most of Sony's big budget games are all becoming samey. Horizon, GOW, Uncharted, Spider Man. They're all good but all in the style of blockbuster movies, which gets old.
@DualWielding for sure. If a person could try out ANY game on PSN for an hour or two, now that'd be a nice feature. But the trials available so far have been measly.
Looking forward to this one. Glad they're trying new things with the series, but also going with an ancient setting. The combat looks a bit noisy for my taste but I can cruise through it on easy mode if I decide so later. Been a fan of FF since the SNES, but I just don't have patience for the turn based combat anymore. And the weird mix of action and turns in FF7R was ok... but I can do without that.
Great month. I'll be jumping into Kena. I was expecting it to show up any month now. And Monster Boy is great. I played it years ago because I'm a fan of the series. But anyone curious, it's the best possible iteration of the Wonder Boy franchise of old.
@zebric21 they're still stuck 2 years in the past comparing the old PsNow to GamePass (when GP was almost free using some trick). They never seem to have moved past that era.
Things don't change enough between generations now, so stuff from 20 years back will feel less "retro" but still nostalgic for those who were young at the release of particular games. New gameplay mechanics are few and far between as controllers remain about the same and game worlds have been able to be complicated and expansive for a while. So it all kinda blends together.
This game looks sluggish and dreary. I think a zelda-like in this era needs to have a lot of personality and some sort of unique gameplay mechanic to stand out at all. There's so many.
Doesn't seem like Japan has as much of a market for large, full power consoles as they once had. I wonder if it's a demographic thing, a cultural thing, or an economic thing.
Ys has a devoted fanbase that I don't understand. Everybody raved about 8 so I gave it a try and was underwhelmed in every way. Repetetive combat, uninteresting exploration, PS2 visuals, generic anime characters with annoying voices and dialoge. I've tried to understand the love, as I enjoy Happy Console Gamer on the tube. But man, I'm at a loss.
For me it probably will be the best place for 3rd party. The current PlayStation is usually the most powerful bit of hardware I have in the house at any given time, from the PS3 onward. So I always lean to that.
This is inherently a very subjective subject. A lot of my favorites didn't make the list, and many overrated titles of course were on there. But I'm fine with it.
Omno is the standout title for me this month. Just my style. Jett piqued my interest. And I'll goof around with Dmc. If easy mode is easy enough I'll probably get a ways.
They sure nickel and dime people with these various releases. Everybody's trying to do the "Disney vault" of drip feeding. If only there was a way to have all the retro stuff in one box. I'd be willing to be a dastardly super villain to have it...
I'll give Gigantosaurus, Worms, and Riiiiidge Racer a try. They REALLY need to get serious about indie games though. Really bored of these big mainstream games.
I knew Biomutant would eventually be a freebie! Awesome. Very interested in trying out the platform fighter. That WB one just wasn't for me. All in all a fantastic lineup.
Sony itself is the middle tier of online services. Miles ahead of Nintendo, but there always seems to be these odd hiccups that seem to give kind of a middle finger to their fans. I'm not a fanboy so I'm kinda ambivalent. I managed to get premium for a good chunk cheaper than Extra for the year so I don't mind, but I've used Premium level stuff maybe a few times.

Re: This New PS Plus Premium Free Trial Is Rather Pitiful
Never done a game trial yet. It's a ridiculously stingy thing. Only certain few games on the list. A mostly useless feature.
Re: Marathon Channelling Mirror's Edge, WipEout, Formula One with Striking Art Style
@PegasusActual93 not really complaining. Just mourning.
Re: Marathon Channelling Mirror's Edge, WipEout, Formula One with Striking Art Style
Yeah that trailer had some awesome style. Too bad it's another shooter.
Re: Foamstars Is Square Enix's Answer to Splatoon on PS5, PS4
@blecch he gets around, the ladies love him.

Re: Reaction: Sony Flubs First Proper PS5 Presentation in Over 18 Months
I was glad too see Sword of the Sea. Some neat looking jrpgs in there too. People are complainers.

Re: 23 Games Hit PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Week in Big Update
@colt45z sony digital licenses seem to be a mess. I figure if I have that problem I'll deal with it then. Has anyone else dealt with this?
Re: 23 Games Hit PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Week in Big Update
Sakuna and Rain World are my must-try games this month. There's always something cool on there.

Re: Shuhei Yoshida Gets on the Sticks for Chill Let's Play Indies! Tchia Sesh
Finished the main story last night and I loved it. I'll be playing a lot of the post game content.
Re: Gorgeous Pixel Platformer Lunark is Like Sci-Fi Prince of Persia on PS5, PS4
They really went all in on the pixelization! Not a fan of Flashback style games, I find them frustrating. Easy pass.

Odd that I've never heard of this!

@nomither6 what makes the original CTR better? I'm curious. I've only played the remake and I've heard a few people say this.
Re: PS5, PS4 Arcade Racer LEGO 2K Drive Sounds Superb, and It's Out Soon
If it's arcadey enough and not the tedious open worldy I've gotten tired of elsewhere, I'm in... at about $15. Later. Much, much later.

Re: Best Platformers on PS5
Slim pickings it seems. Some good games in there, but we could really use a big budget long-length 3D platformer from Sony.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 466
Horizon FW. This will probably be my main game for a while.
Re: PS Plus Is Up to 85% Off for New Subscribers This Weekend
@ralphdibny i think days of play is usually in summer.

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for March 2023 Confirmed
I've seen Code Vein on sale so many times, but didn't think I'd have time for it. Now it'll be in my library and i won't have time for it!
Re: PS Plus Essential, Extra Games for March 2023 Announced Early
Too many good games at once! Just started HFW, want to try Scarlet Nexus, now all this.
Re: Xbox on Charm Offensive to Push $69 Billion Activision Acquisition Through
@Majk_SVK I'll take HFW on Plus over free COD any day.
Re: MultiVersus Daily Peak Player Count Down 99% Since Launch
It's like trying to compete with Mario Kart with a game that has 5 characters and 3 flat courses. There's just no point, even if it's "free".
Re: Microsoft Can't Deny Xbox Game Pass Cannibalises Software Sales
At any rate, I hope PS Plus extra is sustainable because I enjoy it quite a bit.
Re: Forspoken (PS5) - Messy Action RPG Is Massively Hit and Miss
Looks like they needed a more focused, smaller experience. And less edgy.

Are those 83 2DS units just for jailbreaking?
Re: Shinobi non Grata Is an 8-Bit Throwback to Hardcore Ninja Action
Looks like something I'd grab when it's on sale for $5 or less, play it a few times, and forget about it permanently lol.

Got 3 lucky guesses for a 9.
Re: Sky, Journey's Spiritual Successor, Glides to PS4 Next Week
Definitely. I played a bit on android but don't care for touch screen controls.

@Anti-Matter I'm curious what rule Astro is breaking. Dastardly robot.
