Seeing all the comments about trophies or achievements being pointless. You don't have to collect them but I for one, am glad they exist.
The additional pings and bops have guided me through games I would have dropped hard in the PS2 / Gamecube era. And dya know what, they were actually good mostly.
Of course the system can be abused, by both the player and the developer (with easy pings). But there's nothing like my 1000g for Elden Ring, Contra collection and more recently Tetris forever. I've done that and it's there for anyone to see.
@Lofty1985 this is a terrible arguement here and now.
If a kid gets a phone then their friends want one. It doesn't matter how great a parent you are. Peer pressure is peer pressure. If you don't let your kid have a phone. They will be castigated by their friends. So almost every kid of secondary school age has a phone.
Due to the open nature of the internet. It's far too easy for people with bad intentions to gain access to kids. At best it encourages additional bullying outside school.
Social media can and does feature disgusting stuff. From beheadings to car crashes. Its also the jumping off point for radicalisation. So a sweeping ban is all but essential right now.
Parents have limited oversight in the online world as they can scrub their history.
Tetris forever is my first pre-order since the disastrous Mass Effect Andromeda. I loved Digital Eclipse Atari celebration and the work that went into Gold Master 1 - Karateka was outstanding. I bought GM2 - Jeff Minter and honestly, I hate all his games but want Digital Eclipse Gold master series to do well. Now we have the best out the lot with Tetris according to Ken. I can't wait to z shape my way out of a disaster and finally get that elusive double I to make a back to back.
I will add though. Gamepass does give you that day 1 buzz. I'm looking forward to Flight Sim 24 (my daughter crashed a jumbo jet in the Mersey, which was hilarious in the last one) and with Indiana Jones and Stalker 2, it could be quite a good time for GP.
I'm glad Gamepass exists for someone like me, who plays over 60 games a year. For everyone else I speak to in work or socially , who play games, you can't really warrant it - even for the relatively cheap price.
The best games are rarely on the service. Tekken 8, Final Fantasy Rebirth, Dragons Dogma 2, Dragon Age, Balatro etc. You get the occasional great indie (Another Crabs Treasure, Pal World, Botany Manor) and of course the chance to play Forza Horizion and the microsoft backlog. But for the general public it's a waste of money.
I think MS have got the strategy all wrong. Cod players generally just play that. In a similar way to League of Legends or Counter Strike. It takes commitment to be competitive in a way single player games never will (unless you speedrun).
FF8 is like a finite version of Diablo 2 due to its systems. You can become super overpowered and abuse the mechanics. After 8, FF9s battles felt like a chore. So mechanically FF8 once you wrap your head around it, is superb.
Last year I finished FF8 with everything completed. Also on game faqs (remember that?) The FF8 walkthrough is the most indepth on the whole site and has been recognised in general media.
@KundaliniRising333 @windxtravelerx @Oxy You just wait for the mega review and blowout over gacha goddess 69. Pushsquare will burst their load. Suffice the smaller reviews for proper games, addicts will probably avoid.
At least it has a review I suppose.
And as a bonus. I wasn't that interested tbh. But now, I will definitely play it.
We were a goalline clearance away from extra time and with a bit of better control, Ollie Watkins was also in on goal with a masterful through ball from Bellingham.
Everyone banging on how England are a moments team when Spain played better for like 5 minutes.
You do you Bellingham. Don't listen to the haters, you are the best footballer we have been fortunate to have, since, well... forever.
@trev666 this is the way to do it. I unsubscribed for 8 months and recently picked GP up again. All the newer releases I can smash over the next few months and then stop playing when it runs out.
No idea why anyone would have autoredeem turned on when doing it this way is so much better.
@Johnnycide amazing Johnny. I just spat my vegetable curry gaffawing at that comment.
@UltimateOtaku91 Great shout with Ryu. π I would have him at number 3 in my own personal list.
Auron always gets overlooked in these lists and he is my favourite gaming character of all time. I base my own personality on him. I just need to find a star player of a football team who's on a death mission to defeat the Loch Ness monster first.
I moved over to xbox this gen (ps4 / ps4pro / ps5 previously). And it's been great for me mostly.
However all of our predictions when Gamepass propaganda was cascading through the gaming sites 2-3 years ago has come true.
Worse games Microtransactions galore Early access at additional cost People stop buying games Publishers stop developing games
Phil Spencer has to go. He put xbox back on track to a degree but doesn't understand what hobbyist gamers want. Other than Forza Horizon, Ori and Flight Simulator (all released years ago) everything else has been a bust.
Every single first party game is mediocre, without soul. Made in a boardroom.
It's disappointing but a lot if us here seen this coming.
@gymratAmarillo I prefer achievements. On the PS5 playing Ghost of Tsushima, I hit the required contect sensitive milestone for a trophy and it didn't unlock. Which locked me out of the platinum. Heartbreaking. The same thing happened on xbox with the Skywalker saga and I lost 30g. Big difference when let's be honest, plats are all that really matter on the PlayStation.
It's just the big publishers are seeing people pay mega dollar for crap like roblox, gta online and fortnite and want us all to play with cheap turds. See you in the toilet Jim. π»
As gamers we have never had it so good. I'm currently playing Tekken 8 and Elden Ring. Still have to buy Baldurs Gate 3 too.Blows my mind that this generation is apparently awful according to everyone else.
I would rather we had massive blockbusters rarely, even if they take 5-6 years. No ones asking you to rush through these games in the first weekend of release. HZD, GoW, Spiderman, Gran Turismo are all memorable. You can't say that about the deluge of dross in the bargain bucket 3rd party space. Capcom and Bandai Namco are doing great things too. Love those publishers.
@rockodoodle Gamepass is amazing early doors. I had about 60 games I genuinely wanted to play and looked forward to the upcoming inclusions. The issue is, once you have caught up, the better games from the last couple of years are not on the service. Street fighter 6, Tekken 8, Elden Ring, Baldurs Gate, FF16 etc.
So you reach a point you are playing mediocre games and stop having fun. Like cycling through TV channels on a grim Tuesday evening. You then have to pony up for the games you want which ruins the point of gamepass.
I have an xbox and am actually hoping gamepass fails. It just encourages crap in game storefronts and incomplete games.
Sounds crazy, but I agree. would rather pay Β£60-Β£70 for each game I really want and get my moneys worth.
@__jamiie 'As Phil Spencer said before, they lost the most important generation of console gaming on day one.'
That statement by Phil Spencer post redfall debacle gave me a huge insight into the guys psyche. He's literally convinced himself and everyone at xbox that its impossible to beat PlayStation. If this was in any sport he would be sacked. You don't throw your hands up in despair after 10 years in charge and get to blame Don Mattrick anymore, as stupid as that guy was.
The xbox doesn't have stellar games like TLOU, Spiderman, God of War and even the exclusive third parties tend to be a notch below the likes of Final Fantasy 16. It doesn't really innovate anymore like psvr 2 or the dual sense. Look in the mirror Phil, you don't have a vision or plan and are completely deluded... aka trying to buy Nintendo.
I main on xbox and its just a console with mediocre games. Halo and Gears are out of fashion (as much as I like them). PlayStation moves on, xbox doubles down on remodeling the same crap but somehow making it worse.
@Benjiro Death Stranding is a really tough game to recommend. I know my colleagues in work would find it tedious, my wife would roll her eyes, my kids wouldn't even try it. But the traversal was amazing!
Once I had played Death stranding, locomotion in other open worldgames felt juvenile and crude. Making it back from a tough and arduous journey was liberating. It's not a game for everyone but it's certainly a game for me.
The online strand stuff is kind of unique. Playing near to release you could participate in building up a network of motorways and ski lifts. I don't think it's the same now tbh.
@rawzeku @Nintendo4Sonic he's referring to Team Battle mode in earlier Tekken games. Upto 8 v 8 sequentially, not tag. You fight 1 v 1 lose or win another battle starts, the losers character is replaced the winner carries on with the character at the same HP. Street Fighter 6 has a 5 player team battle as an example and its a great mode.
@carlos82 same bro. My GP sub has lapsed and I am having a significantly better time playing games I want. The best games tend to swerve subs, in a similar way to Sony first party.
Obviously if you have never subbed and are new, the sub services are boss. Hundreds of games right there. Just no Street Fighter 6, Baldurs Gate 3, Spiderman 2, Diablo 4 or Tears of the kingdom.
In fact on Gamepass, the recently added includes Resident Evil 2 which was Β£8 to own outright in the sale a couple of weeks ago. Which is cheaper than subbing. And you keep it.
I know some people have their suspicions around Konami. However the MGS Master Collection is super π and if Rocket Knight is treated with a similar layer of respect, I will definitely pick it up.
@themightyant @Kiryu-Chan I think Fiendish Beaver is disappointed that a game as indepth and unique as BG3 has been displaced via a by the numbers sequel. I understand that stance as hardly anyone played chained echoes and that was my favourite game last year. Significantly more rewarding than vampire survivors which won a Bafta and now the dust has settled, is viewed less favourably.
@ThomasHL this is a great point. One I try to make every year.
Looking at the eurogamer readers top 50 I played a rather feeble 8 of them. I will use the list to choose my upcoming purchases though so it's not all in vain.
Unsurprisingly the comments section is filled to the brim with people with no understanding of Autism.
High performing autistics can change the world and struggle to tie their shoelaces. Have a godly understanding of a particular subject but struggle to look you in the eye. Can break in to Rockstars servers and then have a meltdown as you suppress their only natural talent.
He needs a legal avenue to channel his talents. Or we can just toss him into Hospital as he's an inconvenience.
Finally a big hitter getting involved in the bs side of new online games. They need heavily regulating. When the biggest viewed shows on twitch are slot machines and unpacking fifa cards, the gacha / gambling IS the game.
The are also hugely addictive for a certain personality type.
I never entertain these games and buy around 50-60 games a year. People who love gacha spend all their money within one or two games. If companies yeet these nefarious and predatory practices, guess what? I will buy your game. If it has lootboxes, season passes and mobile esque daily logins - its a hard pass. I love freedom, I love the fact I can complain about the government and go on a march if I want. It doesn't mean I should allow my number 1 hobby to be idiofied via bucket jangling shareholders who don't know their arse from their R2 trigger.
The Mass Effect Trilogy is such a great experience. Will we ever see the likes of it again?
No probably not unless one of the big AAA publishers decides art, story and meaningful mechanics come before profit. Playing it, the only thing I'm sorry for, is having half my crew wiped out in mass effect 2. Even then it blew my mind.
'The chronic overworking, brutal deadlines and ruthless layoffs that is absolutely rampant in our industry, in the name of making profit, regardless of the human cost, is an absolute ***** disgrace.'
That's true, and tbf Darcys original response of the initial 4 devs was the lightest weight. However ending it with the F-bomb shows how immature these prima donnas really are. And also has little to with the original response to the awards speech.
@Nei Hi Fe. How are you finding Street Fighter 6? I loved it mostly, kept getting smashed in the corners so only managed to creep into Gold before the frustration set in (too old with no reactions and lack of skills / unwillingness to learn).
I will play the big hitters. It was a good choice jumping to xbox in the same way someone who holidays in the canaries then one year has a break for the week in Skegness instead. Its been okay, but PS is much better.
@Nei I haven't played tlou 2 either. Waiting it out until mid next year and will be back on PS5 once I've hit 250,000 gamerscore and sold my xbox. It's pretty dope jumping between consoles. Really looking forward to playing both tlou and tlou2 back to back. (And Spiderman 2, gow ragnorok and HZD 2).
@RubyCarbuncle Digital isn't as bad as it can be.... yet.
I've heard loads of people supporting microtransactions. Now they cost more than the game. That's one example. We need to stamp out this wild west anti consumer nonsense that's going on. One way to do that is buy retail games, it supports additional jobs and you tend to find more competitive prices. Being stuck with the PS Store alone and at the mercy of some Johnny bigballs CEO deciding games have a predetermined shelf life and boom. Digital gives all the power to the broker.
@NinjaSixx but who's to say what's good and what's bad?
I really enjoyed my time with the megadrive collection. Again it's a frame of mind. If you love track and field and choplifter that's great, but I would prefer to play Shining force 2 and Streets of Rage. Its great that all collections are available, all games are released to buy on all systems. So let's stop crapping on a collection that to many (me included) is a decent distraction from life's many negatives. And the user interface and included documentaries are great.
I also bought the newish Karateka to support what they are doing.
Street fighter has been ripping people off for longer than some people commenting have been alive.
That said the whole microtransaction situation has blown out of all proportion. I can buy nike air max 90s for cheaper than the dlc and actually wear boss clothes on my real life avatar.
@NinjaSixx You also get the arcade games of Centipede, Asteroids, and Lunar Lander. All playable today with the right company. You also get a wicked reimagined remix game called VTCR-STCR. Yes there are a lot of duds, especially tic tac toe but the industry was new.
As for comparing Centipede to Super Mario Bros. They are both playable. Mario just has the added advantage of actual progression rather than simply score chasing on one screen. Again with the decent controls you can have fun either way.
Early 3d ps1/ps2 games have aged badly as the tech is better now. But great pixel based games have generally stood the test of time.
@HonestHick I dunno man, I'm on xbox and all of their games are built as a 'platform' to sell additional crap. It doesn't work for me and (this is a big assumption) doesn't work for most of the community here.
I've been eagerly awaiting each release and they are nerfed and built for addons aka Minecraft. Age of empires 2 remastered as an example, had dlc. It just boggles my mind. I would much rather they concentrated on big fulfilling games than soulless service games but here we are.
@ChrisDeku The pushup comparison is one of the worst examples I have ever heard.
Possibly cars, fishing gear, football boots etc. But 47 pushups? Outside of the military I have never heard anyone talk about how many they do outside of a set of excersises which includes other excersises. You don't need competition to perform press ups.
As for everyone saying about the live service adjustment. From a personal perspective for many of us, it was a sad realisation and disappointment from the single player golden age. But speaking to my kids and younger gamers in work (18-30 year olds) they solely play gaas. It's already here, we are old skool. Soon to be relics of the past.
"for a problem most users wonβt even come across."
I'm sorry D but I can't enjoy sports games anymore. All the focus is put into the cash cow sections and the previous core game aspects are left to rot or removed entirely. I won't pay microtransactions, but it's pretty much essential in modern day sports games if you want to enjoy the game.
Of course a 1 v 1 on the couch with your mate is still a laugh. Throwing down a great play feels great in isolation. But when the games are centered around monetisation, it effects everybody. Even you.
@AK4tywill that's a fair comment, although what your describing is something that the editors and paid contributers can write in an article. We have the games rating system going on in the background (worth having a poke around with that AK4 it's somewhere on your profile) so it's kind of already available.
What KF has done, is a fanatstic project. It keeps us all engaged and you look forward to the weekly poke. A lot of people have contributed. And the overall list of games is compelling.
@Shigurui thanks Shig. That's a great seal of approval. Both the review and your good self.
I'm currently enamoured by Diablo 2 remastered of all things. So don't have much time but if it's worth a punt, I will stick it on my November must play list.
@Cashews it's arguable switch has the best games. Maybe better for you or my nephew who loves it.
The library is sweet π it's especially lovely to see Celeste, Ori, Disgaea 5 and Mario Kart on the same system.
Not so great if you want real world simulators, crpgs, immersive management sims or real time strategy games. It also struggles with frame rates and high resolution on the TV. And the joy con's are fragile.
I see my switch as a nice accompanying console to my xbox. It does have some positives namely the portability, unique experiments (labo / switch adventures) and great exclusives. But switch doesnt house all the games I want to play. I'm a bit long in the tooth to enjoy Mario Bros like I used too, playing Kirby is only slightly favourable to catching a cold. And as I game on a TV to relax its not god-tier in that regard.
I think Hades is overrated and Street Fighter 6 although fun, isn't the undisputed king we have all been led to believe (still good tbf). But the other games look about right score / position wise based on the general consensus.
I hope Immortality comes over to the PS5, alongside chained echoes they are the only games I would award a full phat seal of approval π then you may see a switch at the top.
Get a grip Cashew. Nintendo got it right because the price point and focus is on kids. Perfect Christmas and Birthday presents. I have a switch and it's great. But god-tier?
Also, what's wrong with games releasing on multiple systems? I would love to play super mario world on my xbox. But I've got more chance of playing on Paul McCartneys missing bass guitar than ever seeing that.

Re: We Wish You a Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas one and all. Now time for some Bombrush Cyberfunk and MGS Master Collection (thanks Mrs Noisy).
Re: New Chinese Rules Could Change Some of PS5, PS4's Biggest Games
Re: Success of Legendary Edition Convinced Mass Effect Lead Writer to Leave BioWare
Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Targeting September 2024, Will Have Proprietary Upscaling Tech
@kyleforrester87 I thought it was PS5 prolapse. So the ram and cpu are on the outside of the console.
Re: Call of Duty Devs Walk Back Kratos Voice Actor Criticisms, 'It's Not About the Joke'
Re: Fortnite Fans Can't Believe the Price of the Game's New PS5, PS4 Microtransactions
Baldurs Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Spiderman 2 and millions of other games more worthy of our time are out. So let's all play them instead!
I will have more great ideas in upcoming comment drops.
Re: Where to Pre-Order The Last of Us 2 Remastered WLF Edition
Re: Where to Pre-Order The Last of Us 2 Remastered WLF Edition
@Nei I haven't played tlou 2 either. Waiting it out until mid next year and will be back on PS5 once I've hit 250,000 gamerscore and sold my xbox. It's pretty dope jumping between consoles. Really looking forward to playing both tlou and tlou2 back to back. (And Spiderman 2, gow ragnorok and HZD 2).
Re: PlayStation Users Set to Lose Hundreds of TV Shows They Paid For
@RubyCarbuncle Digital isn't as bad as it can be....
Re: 12 Extra Atari 2600 Games Are on the Way to Atari 50, Even More in Further Updates
Re: Street Fighter 6's Awesome New Outfits Are Out Now, But Fans Are Fuming at the Prices
Street fighter has been ripping people off for longer than some people commenting have been alive.
That said the whole microtransaction situation has blown out of all proportion. I can buy nike air max 90s for cheaper than the dlc and actually wear boss clothes on my real life avatar.
Re: 12 Extra Atari 2600 Games Are on the Way to Atari 50, Even More in Further Updates
Re: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Reportedly Deader than Alderaan
Re: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Reportedly Deader than Alderaan
Re: PAYDAY 3 Servers Settle as Starbreeze Unveils Content Roadmap
Trying to woo us with paid dlc hey starbreeze?
There really is no shame in this industry.
Re: Jim Ryan Retires as PlayStation Boss in March 2024
March 2024?
Isn't that when Bobby Kotick becomes available?
As for everyone saying about the live service adjustment. From a personal perspective for many of us, it was a sad realisation and disappointment from the single player golden age. But speaking to my kids and younger gamers in work (18-30 year olds) they solely play gaas. It's already here, we are old skool. Soon to be relics of the past.
Re: PAYDAY 3's Chaotic Launch Experience Prompts CEO Apology
@LifeGirl that's not necessarily true. A couple of negative experiences and most people learn their lesson.
Cyberpunk is the poster boy for not preordering. And unlike cyberpunk some games never improve, in some instances, getting worse.
Re: NBA 2K24 (PS5) - Stunning Sports Game Wants You to Spend
@Darude84 I need to elaborate on this point;
Even you.
Re: Community: Push Square Readers Narrow Down Best Game of All Time Vote to Two Classics
Re: Mini Review: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk (PS5) - A Worthy Successor to Jet Set Radio
@Shigurui thanks Shig. That's a great seal of approval. Both the review and your good self.
I'm currently enamoured by Diablo 2 remastered of all things. So don't have much time but if it's worth a punt, I will stick it on my November must play list.
Re: Mini Review: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk (PS5) - A Worthy Successor to Jet Set Radio
Upvote for the tag line.
Glad to see JSR getting a 2023 makeover. Quite intrigued by the rep system. Not so much the falling through the floor.
Re: Sea of Stars Now at 250K Sales, Beats First Year Targets
Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Is Now PS5's Highest Rated Game Ever
@Th3solution which ones Sol?
Re: Sea of Stars Now at 250K Sales, Beats First Year Targets
@Cashews "god-tier Switch"
