@IonMagi Microsoft did not patch those games; Origins and Odyssey were patched by Ubisoft (same on PS5). If you're referring to the other enhanced AC titles, those were achieved via Xbox's fps boost feature. From Digital Foundry: "...adjust frame-rate caps at the Direct3D level, increasing performance within the system, without any changes at all to the original code". Pacific Rift is my favorite racing game; I still play it and Apocalypse every once in a while. For PS3 games, I would honestly prefer remastered collections on PS5 over emulation, like Sony did for PS2 on PS3. Resistance, Killzone, Motorstorm, Ratchet, and Infamous—that's all I want from PS first party. And if they would bring over those PS2 collections and RDR, GTA4, MGS4 from 3rd-party, my wishlist would be fulfilled.
@Uncharted2007 Yeah, that comment about respecting other's opinions was definitely Ryan's most heinous act of pure evil. Good thing we have great journalists to keep reminding everyone of that reprehensible utterance. Never forget
@Uncharted2007 It actually makes more sense because going forward they will only have to manufacture one hardware model; the disc drive will be a separate product. They will then sell one SKU with the standalone console and another with the 2 bundled together. Additionally, they will only need 1 mold for the faceplates compared to the 2 different molds they currently require. There are further advantages to unifying the design, such as marketing and iconography.
I always expected this would be the route console manufacturers would eventually take as physical media becomes less popular. I didn't think it would happen until next gen though.
I have been waiting for the first major redesign to get a PS5, but I also still buy physical games, so I would keep the drive attached. I really hope this detachable design doesn't mean we will lose a USB port compared to the original models. If that's the case, I might try to pick up an original design model instead, provided the other improvements aren't that significant.
Great to hear this news. Unity parkour was excellent; it just needed a little more polish. I still go back to that game every so often. Mirage is looking very promising.
@Ken_Kaniff You're right. I thought it had already been released, but what I was thinking of were the reports that it had been rated in Korea. Thanks for setting the record straight. Hopefully it will have trophy support and will be available to those who already purchased it in the past.
@Milktastrophe True. I was thinking from the perspective of From/Bandai doing it as a gesture of goodwill to their customers who supported their game despite its performance issues. But you're right. Who am I kidding...
You would think with such success the devs would release a patch to fix the frame rate issues, especially on current gen consoles. But 6 months have passed and still nothing...
I managed to get all online trophies in Mercenary except for 1 - Aces High. It was one of the most bs trophies I've ever come across. If I had known about it beforehand I wouldn't even have attempted. I'm not even a hunter, but ever since Killzone 2, I always wanted to platinum a KZ game and this one looked doable. Boy was I wrong. The game is excellent however. One of the best KZ games imo. And possibly my favorite Vita game.
I'm not sure why so many people are down on Shadow Fall. I remember really enjoying both the single player and MP. The narrative was nothing special, but that's true for all the KZ titles. The lore is what's really appealing about them, along with the gameplay and visuals.
I doubt they will raise the price. It's more likely they just won't do the traditional 3rd year price drop. So we may see a slimmer, rev 2 PS5 that's cheaper to manufacture, but the savings won't get passed on to us consumers, which is understandable.
I was able to buy a PS5 around a year ago from PS Direct via invite, but I sold it to a neighbor who was more desperate for one and anyway I was still playing through my PS4, PS3 and Vita backlog. I figured I would get another one in a few months when they were more readily available. Boy was I wrong. I refuse to subscribe to those memberships that are required to purchase one from the big retailers and I've had no luck with Amazon. I'm no longer eligible to get one via PS Direct invite since it's limited one per household (I guess I could try with another PSN account and ship to a different address). I'm also not interested in hunting one down online using stock alerts and competing with bots.
I think at this point I'm just going to hold off until they release a new model—either a Slim or Pro if they do that again. My backlog is still massive and I've been enjoying playing some PS3 and Vita games I've been wanting to get to for years. I can hold out another year or so.
@thedevilsjester I think PlayStation is still competing for mainstream market share even if their device is technologically more on par with the high-end PC headsets. They've always struck a good balance between mainstream and enthusiast appeal. And even with all the advanced tech built into PS VR2, I maintain that the cost savings of not having to include an SoC—processor, memory, storage, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, etc.—plus a battery, will allow them to hit the $399 price point. But you might be right. We'll just have to wait and see.
@thedevilsjester We also have to consider the fact that even at $499 PS VR was the least expensive of the of the major VR headsets back when it launched. The PS4's price was also slashed to $299 at the same time, so even with the price of the console included, it offered the lowest cost to entry. Now, with Quest 2 on the market that's no longer the case. $399 flat, no other hardware needed, no wires, has a lot of content/dev support, and has most of hit games. Plus the tracking is great and it can optionally be connected to a PC for the enhanced experience. I would say PS faces some stiff competition and knows that they need to price it competitively, even if it means selling them at a loss, just like they have always done with their hardware and like they are currently doing with PS5 Digital Edition.
$400 USD is the right price. It's important to note that the Quest has the processing hardware, storage and memory built in, while PS VR does not. This should allow them to match the Quest's price easily.
This is disappointing. Killzone MP is excellent. I haven't played in a while due to not having a PS+ sub for years. It's unfortunate there won't be any way to play Killzone MP on PlayStation going forward. Though I do understand it if the player count is low, which I'm sure it is.
I've also been waiting for a 60fps patch to play RDR2. If a relatively small team like Techland can patch their game from 2015, Rockstar can surely patch their 2018 game. No excuses.
I have to hand it to Ubisoft; they have gone above and beyond for this one. Patching Origins—a 5 year old game—to run at 60fps was more than most publishers are doing (looking at Take2), but this is on another level. Not only is Syndicate a 7 year old title, but the back compat issues are really PlayStation's responsibility to fix. Not the developers.
Did PS not state way back that they would continue to improve backward compatiblility on PS5 and the list of titles that exhibit errors would shrink over time? If my memory serves me they did say something to that effect and as far a I understand there has been zero improvement.
If Xbox can make a bc solution for their consoles that can run all last gen titles without issues, there's no reason PS can't do the same. Especially from a developers' perspective, why should they have to patch their games on one platform because it's not up to par with the competition?
Anyway, rant over. I'm happy Ubi is doing this since I enjoy Syndicate despite its flaws. Their recreation of 19th century London was excellent and there's really nothing else like it. I'm glad I'll be able to go for the platinum without all the visual glitches. Hopefully they will add a 60 fps mode while they're at it, but that's just wishful thinking; I don't expect it.
@Ralizah @hugoadan I don't have a PS5 yet either and based on the wording it appears we won't be able to play this demo when we get one, even if we claim it before then. "...or re-download it if you’ve deleted it from your console." This wording suggests the demo must be downloaded and installed on the console before the delist date. This would be similar to Konami's PT demo which can no longer be downloaded even if it had been claimed while it was available. Hopefully this isn't the case. It would be great if we could get clarification on this.
Wish they would at least remaster the existing titles for PS4/PS5. There's too many great games trapped on PS3. Sly would really only need a port since they've already done the remastering. Bring them to PC too if that helps justify the dev cost. Same for Resistance, Killzone and Motorstorm. MGS4 as well.
So Genji: Days of the Blade — a PS3 launch title — is available for streaming, but Resistance: Fall of Man — also a PS3 launch title — has still never been added (not to mention Resistance 2 either). I always assumed it had something to do with the games having never been listed digitally on PS Store.
@Quintumply Oh, that's good to hear. Thank you! It's a bit confusing though, because on the game's page on PS Store, it has the disclaimer at the top that only appears on PS4 listings--"Although this game is playable on PS5...". But now I see it also states "This product entitles you to download both the digital PS4 version and the digital PS5 version...".
Can you please confirm if there's programmed haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support?
@Vix It's unlikely since PS Store only has a PS4 version listed, unfortunately. It should be technically possible since I believe Rocket League had 120 fps support added to the PS4 version in an update. As for 4K 60, that should be supported since I'm pretty sure Sonic Mania ran at those settings on PS4 Pro.
The lock-on tech blew my mind when I was a kid. It would've been nice if they included a virtual simulation of that in this collection. This way players would have the option of playing the games separately, the way they originally released or locked on (a little animation would've been cool).
The changed music tracks in 3 is definitely going to be hard to get used to since that is a major factor in my fondness for that title.
I also would've liked if they offered a third mode where we could customize the settings from Anniversary and Classic modes to our liking, e.g., widescreen--on, ininite lives--off, etc. Maybe they'll eventually release an update similar to the Encore DLC for Mania.
Finally, it looks like this will only be getting a PS4 version and no native PS5 version. While this game probably wouldn't benefit much from the PS5's features, I could see haptic feedback and adaptive triggers adding a fun effect when spin dashing, bouncing around like a pinball, and with the elemental power-ups. Also, this is one of the few types of games that could likely run at 8K or 120 fps (not that I have a TV that supports either), so that's kind of a missed opportunity.
I'll definitely be picking this up eventually regardless. And I'm happy Sega is giving classic Sonic some attention since many of us fans who grew up with the originals find Sonic Team's 3D efforts too different from the original formula and mostly unappealing.
I'm really surprised they didn't announce a native PS5 port for Part 2 alongside the Part 1 remake. It's gonna be odd when Part 1 has all the PS5 features such as fast loading, Dualsense, full 4K, while Part 2 is still just the PS4 Pro version running at 60fps in the same 1440p.
I wouldn't trust IGN's impressions here either. The gameplay just doesn't look fun. Same tried boost formula with a heavy dose of on-rails, pinball mechanics.
I don't understand why Sonic Team is so against the original Sonic momentum-based gameplay where speed is earned, making traversal and platforming more satisfying. That's part of what made Sonic a success, so why completely change it? I could live with the annoying changes to the characters, art style, music, etc. But the gameplay? That's too fundamental.
Nintendo took their original successful Mario formula and adapted it to 3D and it was and still is a huge success. Sega on the other hand tried to reinvent the wheel for some unknown reason and they've mostly failed, yet they're still pushing the same underwhelming gameplay 25 years later, while Sonic fans have already outdone them.
Fan games such as Sonic Utopia, Green Hill Paradise and GT, all proved that the original gameplay formula can be done in 3D and is actually really fun. Those devs just don't have the budget to polish them the way Sega could.
I still think the "open zone" approach is a move in the right direction, but they really need to swallow their pride already and go back to their roots, and I don't mean re-releasing the original games for the thousandth time. At this point Sega would be wise to remove Sonic Team and hand the IP over to a different dev.
Add this to the extremely short list of non-vr PS4 games that use the PS Camera/Move. The only other titles I can think of off the top of my head are Playroom, LBP3 and Tearaway Unfolded.
I used to love this functionality on PS3 in titles such as Killzone 3, Resistance 3, Sports Champions, Beat Sketcher, and a few others. But the inescapable drift issue ruined the experience every time, especially with the otherwise excellent Sharpshooter peripheral.
Would've been cool if the upcoming PS VR2 controllers were supported outside of VR, but there's practically no chance of that since their tracking is dependant on the headset and its built-in cameras.
One of the PSP's greatest games. Sony Bend did an outstanding job as usual. I replayed it on my Vita about a year ago and had a blast.
I really wish PlayStation would make an initiative to bring remastered PS3 collections to PS5 the way they did for PS2 games on PS3. Like others have said, I'd be happy with just Resistance, Killzone, inFamous, Motorstorm, and Ratchet & Clank. I would actually take good remasters of those over PS3 backward compatibility. Just add MGS4 to that list and maybe the aforementioned PS2 remastered collections. Most other games from that gen are available on PC for cheap and can be played at high settings even with weak hardware. Why would we want to play the PS3 versions at 720p with choppy frame rate?
I'm not understanding why the PS+ Extra and Premium games require periodic validation, while the standard Essential plan games don't. What's stopping someone from playing those offline beyond an expired subscription? Why can't the same policy be applied across the board? Am I missing something?
The non-VR version of this game has been available on PS4 for about a year now. I wonder if this will be an update to that version or a standalone release.
@RawnDawn Agreed. I think that's their only chance at making this game a success. And it has potential to be a huge success.
Port it to PC and PS5.
Allow users to monetize their creations; Sony can collect a percentage of each sale.
Games should be available for sale in both Dreams and standalone on PS Store.
Ownership of Dreams should not be required to purchase or play; only to create.
On PC, standalone titles should be sellable on Steam directly ideally, but a Dreams store/launcher would suffice.
Each title would display a "Made with Dreams" screen at startup.
People have already created a ton of incredible things in Dreams. Just imagine if there was an incentive added and the creations were available to a broader audience.
I know this would be challenging, but Sony and the talented team at Media Molecule can certainly figure it out. They have already created what is essentially the world's most accessible and user friendly game engine. It would be a big shame to let it die.
Thanks for bringing this issue to light. I haven't seen it reported anywhere else. I can understand the free GTA Online offer being reserved for PS5 owners, but the discounted campaign promotion should be available to all. How is it fair that a PS5 owner who may have never purchased the game before is more worthy of the discount than someone who already purchased a version of the game, but doesn't have a PS5 yet? Why do I need to sign in on a friend's PS5 to get the discounted price?
I'll gladly pay $10 for the improved visuals and performance, but I'm not buying the game again for full price. They could at least do like they did with the Uncharted collection and offer the discount to owners of the PS4 version.
I can't believe they're restricting the introductory price to the PS Store on PS5 only. I don't have a PS5 yet, but I would gladly pay the $10 for this. They're so committed to this that they won't even allow us to buy the PS5 version on the mobile app or browser based store. That's right, the new version of one of the best selling games of all time will not be available for purchase on the PlayStation app for 3 months just so fewer people can claim the promotional price. Absolutely ridiculous and greedy.
@Gloamin I was referring to Red Dead Redemption 2. That game already looks incredible on PS4 Pro. All it could use is a boost to 60fps on PS5. Maybe native 4k instead of checkerboard, but even that isn't really necessary.
Indie dev patches their 7 year old game with enhancements for new-gen consoles. Take-Two/Rockstar won't do the same for their 3.5 year old, 43+ million copies sold *game.
Kudos to Techland. I'll definitely be picking this one up once I get a PS5.
Congrats to SloClap. I wonder if they will release a native PS5 version. Though I'm not sure how much more enhanced it could get since they did a great job optimizing the PS4 version to take advantage of PS5.
@RevGaming It depends on your tastes. I personally would burn out playing the same franchise or even genre back to back. That's why I always alternate genres when I move from game to game (open world/3rd person, linear fps, 2D sidescroller, open world fps, etc.). Also consider your tolerance for older games (and I don't mean retro games, but aging 3D games). Some find it very frustrating to play older games after being used to more modern, optimized game design and features. Myself, I can usually go back to older games and enjoy them, but it can sometimes take a bit of time to adjust. And there are even rare times when I realize that I'm just not having fun, so I decide it isn't worth it.
If you do have high tolerance, I would recommend starting from the original AC. It did certain things better than its sequels, though it is still inferior IMO. But only if you can play it on PC or XBOX. The PS3 version would probably be painful to play today. (On XB1 and up it's enhanced).
And you're correct about the newer ACs being suuuper long. I'm about 2-thirds through Origins and I've been playing for nearly 2 months at this point. About an hour a night on average.
Yes! I hope this is true. I'm currently playing Origins for the first time–the first AC I've played that uses the newer RPG/massive world map formula. And while I am really enjoying it, I definitely miss the older dense city formula. I hope it combines the best of both. I would like to see a refocus on parkour. An improved version of Unity's parkour system, perhaps.
Does anyone know if uncharted survival/multiplayer (PS4) can be downloaded on PS5 without downloading the campaign? I know legacy of thieves doesn't include the multiplayer, so does that mean we would need to install the PS5 and PS4 versions of the campaigns just to be able to play both single player and multiplayer?
Also, if we purchase the upgrade through the disc path, does the PS4 game install from the disc every time you insert it into PS5 to authenticate legacy of thieves? That would be very annoying to need to cancel the install every time. I don't have a PS5, so I'm not sure how PS4 disc authentication works with PS5 upgrades, but I assume it would be the same for all titles that utilize that feature.
I'm glad they've included this, but I prefer the old system where a game's different platform versions shared the same trophy list. So you could start a game on PS3, then continue on the PS4 version and you would be contributing toward the same trophy progress. The same would apply if you picked up the Vita version. I believe this was part of the short lived Cross Save feature. Only a handful of titles ever supported it.
I normally wouldn't want Sony to make reactionary aquisitions, but unfortunately, it seems we're at the point where that's the only way they can ensure third party IP will continue to release on PlayStation. Otherwise, there may come a time when all PlayStation releases will only be from their own studios.

But now I see it also states "This product entitles you to download both the digital PS4 version and the digital PS5 version...".
Can you please confirm if there's programmed haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support?
Re: Sonic Origins (PS5) - The Genesis of SEGA's Mascot Revisited with Style
@Vix It's unlikely since PS Store only has a PS4 version listed, unfortunately. It should be technically possible since I believe Rocket League had 120 fps support added to the PS4 version in an update. As for 4K 60, that should be supported since I'm pretty sure Sonic Mania ran at those settings on PS4 Pro.
Re: Sonic Origins (PS5) - The Genesis of SEGA's Mascot Revisited with Style
Re: The Last of Us 2 Has Sold an Impressive 10 Million Copies on PS4
I'm really surprised they didn't announce a native PS5 port for Part 2 alongside the Part 1 remake. It's gonna be odd when Part 1 has all the PS5 features such as fast loading, Dualsense, full 4K, while Part 2 is still just the PS4 Pro version running at 60fps in the same 1440p.
Re: The Last of Us: Part I PS5 Trailer Gives Us Our First Taste of Naughty Dog's Remake
Am I the only one who thought Part 2 was going to get a native PS5 port and would be packaged with this Part 1 remake as a collection?
Re: First Hands-On Impressions of Sonic Frontiers Are Mostly Positive
Re: House of the Dead Remake Adds PS Move Support for Arcade Lightgun Experience
Re: PSP Classic Resistance Retribution Likely Coming to PS Plus Premium
Re: PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Will Be Playable Offline, But Will Require Weekly Validation
I'm not understanding why the PS+ Extra and Premium games require periodic validation, while the standard Essential plan games don't. What's stopping someone from playing those offline beyond an expired subscription? Why can't the same policy be applied across the board? Am I missing something?
Re: Green Hell VR Welcomes You to the Jungle on PSVR2 in 2023
The non-VR version of this game has been available on PS4 for about a year now. I wonder if this will be an update to that version or a standalone release.
Re: Dreams Update 2.44 Brings Big Improvements to Create Mode, Available Now
@RawnDawn Agreed. I think that's their only chance at making this game a success. And it has potential to be a huge success.
Re: VRR Support Officially Coming to PS5 'In the Coming Months'
Anyone else in my boat where your TV supports FreeSync VRR, but not HDMI 2.1?
After waiting all this time, I couldn't be more disappointed.
Re: GTA 5 PS5 Promos Can Only Be Claimed on a Console
Re: Hands On: Is GTA 5 PS5 Worth It?
I can't believe they're restricting the introductory price to the PS Store on PS5 only. I don't have a PS5 yet, but I would gladly pay the $10 for this. They're so committed to this that they won't even allow us to buy the PS5 version on the mobile app or browser based store. That's right, the new version of one of the best selling games of all time will not be available for purchase on the PlayStation app for 3 months just so fewer people can claim the promotional price. Absolutely ridiculous and greedy.
Re: Original Dying Light Takes a Leap Forward with Updated PS5 Performance
@Gloamin I was referring to Red Dead Redemption 2. That game already looks incredible on PS4 Pro. All it could use is a boost to 60fps on PS5. Maybe native 4k instead of checkerboard, but even that isn't really necessary.
Re: Original Dying Light Takes a Leap Forward with Updated PS5 Performance
Indie dev patches their 7 year old game with enhancements for new-gen consoles. Take-Two/Rockstar won't do the same for their 3.5 year old, 43+ million copies sold *game.
Kudos to Techland. I'll definitely be picking this one up once I get a PS5.
*Edit: Referring to Red Dead 2
Re: Stylish Kung Fu Action Game Sifu Breaks 1 Million Sales
Congrats to SloClap. I wonder if they will release a native PS5 version. Though I'm not sure how much more enhanced it could get since they did a great job optimizing the PS4 version to take advantage of PS5.
Re: PlayStation Productions' Ident Looks Amazing on the Big Screen
@Gizmo4383 That's right! Can't believe I forgot about that. Now his inclusion makes sense.
Re: PlayStation Productions' Ident Looks Amazing on the Big Screen
Interesting to see Sackboy considering his last game was 2014's LBP3.
Re: Rumour: New, Smaller Assassin's Creed Game Will Focus on Stealth in Late 2022 or 2023
@RevGaming It depends on your tastes.
Re: Rumour: New, Smaller Assassin's Creed Game Will Focus on Stealth in Late 2022 or 2023
Re: Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves PS5 Download Lets You Pick Which Game You Want to Play First
Does anyone know if uncharted survival/multiplayer (PS4) can be downloaded on PS5 without downloading the campaign? I know legacy of thieves doesn't include the multiplayer, so does that mean we would need to install the PS5 and PS4 versions of the campaigns just to be able to play both single player and multiplayer?
Also, if we purchase the upgrade through the disc path, does the PS4 game install from the disc every time you insert it into PS5 to authenticate legacy of thieves? That would be very annoying to need to cancel the install every time. I don't have a PS5, so I'm not sure how PS4 disc authentication works with PS5 upgrades, but I assume it would be the same for all titles that utilize that feature.
Re: Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Trophies and Saves Will Transfer from PS4 to PS5
Re: Poll: Does Sony Need to Take Action After Microsoft's Activision Buyout?
I normally wouldn't want Sony to make reactionary aquisitions, but unfortunately, it seems we're at the point where that's the only way they can ensure third party IP will continue to release on PlayStation. Otherwise, there may come a time when all PlayStation releases will only be from their own studios.
