Re: PSVR2's Horizon Call of the Mountain Will 'Change What AAA Means for VR'

Bleachedsmiles

The controllers alone will make psvr2 more than just a visual upgrade for games. I don’t doubt it’s gonna be awesome…but they need to get the price point right. They also need to show they’re fully supporting it this time round (I don’t think Sony made a psvr game since iron man?). And should start putting out vr games regularly with plus or have on Now

Re: No Plans for Ubisoft+ on PS5, PS4 At This Time, Rainbow Six Extraction Full-Price on PlayStation

Bleachedsmiles

@get2sammyb sony can’t afford to place first party day 1 on their services…though as a ‘creative’ alternative I expect them to add first party game trials to one of those services.

Sony should maybe stop all the paying for exclusive content in third party games and focus that money pot on bringing some third party games day 1 to one of their services.

Either way, any gamer that doesn’t go for an Xbox and PlayStation this gen out of some misguided brand loyalty are really going to be cheating themselves.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Could Have a Huge PS5, PS4 File Size Footprint

Bleachedsmiles

@KilloWertz Youre talking about today...I'm not talking about today. So streaming quality of today is moot. Streaming capabilities of today is moot. A streaming future is certain...but nobody other than yourself is suggesting physical medium or downloading won't still be available - even in the example I used of how Netflix and the like have transformed how we get our content I still recognised they're available by other means.
No suggestion of anything being 'thrown away'.
But I don't believe streaming as common place is 'loooong way off'...I guess it depends on your perspective of a long way off. I'm thinking by the end of this current generation we'll be viewing streaming differently. It will be a more common way to ingest content...that gives about 7-10years.
All the signs are there. The tech is being widely adopted and pushed now by more publishers, hell even Netflix will be getting into games. There's already strong rumours Xbox will be bringing out a streaming box within the next few years.
Technology doesn't stand still. And isn't contained within a vacuum. Look back on what your broadband speed was when the PS4 released...is it faster now? I know mine is.

At the end of the day Sony partnered with Microsoft for a reason. Streaming content will end up as favourable as downloading digital content is now (remember there was similar kick back). But don't get it twisted, it won't replace anything (you can still buy CDs. DVDs. Vinyl. Probably cassettes and VHS in some cases). But I think it will be the preferred way most of us ingest content sooner that I get the impression you do.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Could Have a Huge PS5, PS4 File Size Footprint

Bleachedsmiles

@KilloWertz Not as far away as you think.
Streaming is the norm now with entertainment...majority of us stream music, movies and and shows. They still sell all those physically. They still have bad internet in certain countries (hell parts of America have terrible internet)...streaming services are still being pushed and invested in.

Xbox is also UHD too by the way. Will have evolve their own compression techniques no doubt, and will keep investing in cloud streaming which is now part of gamepass (if there's another option to stream new releases then download sizes are even less of a problem for Xbox going forward).

Re: PS Plus Version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Can Be Upgraded to PS5 Version for Free from Wednesday

Bleachedsmiles

What happened - 'great news! Thank you SE!'

What really happened -
step 1) sell to Sony to put on plus = 'great month! All hail plus!'.
Step 2) release a 'free' upgrade but make sure the ones that got it on plus have to buy the game.
Step 3) once sales dip release free upgrade to everyone and discount the dlc so those going back in will have more incentive to buy dlc.
Step 4) praise = we got them. The perfect heist.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand it's great that a free upgrade is no longer locked away from a subscription service. Hopefully this will happen with all the other games that got free upgrades that don't apply to plus/now versions of the games.
On the other hand...it should have been available to us all from the start and clearly could have been other than to make you buy what you already paid for...and limit your options to either a physical purchase or dlc bundle purchase.

Re: Video: The State of PlayStation VR in 2021

Bleachedsmiles

I keep getting tempted by the Quest 2...the barrier of entry is so little. It's only the fact that they release new hardware so quickly that puts me off. But yeah...the ability to play decent quality vr without any wires in any open area sounds more attractive than the wired alternative.
Thankfully psvr2 is bound to have some quality games. But not gonna pretend it still restricted to wires isn't a bit of a disappointment. I just hope drift is never an issue again.

Re: Video: The State of PlayStation VR in 2021

Bleachedsmiles

@mastrz tbh I'm really hoping psvr1 is supported day 1 for gt7. There's no viable reason it shouldn't be. The headset offers no physical/gameplay limitations in racing games. So I'd love to be able to play the whole game (rather than racing against one car) in VR on psvr1 this time round. I reckon they'll use it to sell psvr2 headsets though

Re: November 2021 NPD: Minimal PS5 Stock Leads to Disappointing Hardware Sales

Bleachedsmiles

@theMEGAniggle My PSN name is same as here. Same on Xbox.
I already have psvr...playing dreams in vr isn't too stable on the base PS4. No problems with the pro. But you'll often get kicked out into 'cinema mode' if a scenes too ambitious for the base PS4. I'm currently trying to make my game work better in VR...but it's far from perfect.
Right now it's just as case of getting some logic figured out (basically learning 'variables' to allow save states so when you go back to a level you don't have to have the same conversation again ect)...boring stuff right now just to get it over the finish line.

I'll definitely be getting psvr2 at some point. I just can't see how they can announce it next year when the ps5 is still not physically on the shelves.

Re: Not Everyone Had the Fortitude to Finish Returnal on PS5

Bleachedsmiles

The gamepass mention is disingenuous. For most the majority of games we have in our libraries we don't complete...long before gamepass was a thing. What that tells me about gamepass is that it simply offers gamers more options to try games they wouldn't have normally tried.

£70 to not get passed the first boss is a bit worrying though. But you learn a lot with a game like dreams...majority of gamers don't have patience...they want something quick and instant. Or they simply move on. This is why cod and FIFA sell so well.

Re: Tencent Buys Back 4 Blood Developer Turtle Rock Studios

Bleachedsmiles

@Royalblues You're already funding ww3.

Acquisitions are by far the lesser evil. If Xbox has shown us anything over the generations is that you can buy the IP but you can't keep the talent. So yeah, in the short term it sucks when you suddenly can't play a franchise that you could once before...but new games are made all the time, most building on what came before it.
The trend of patents for gameplay or features though...well none of us really win there. Think about all the cool games we could have got last gen using the 'nemisis system'. Think about all the pains of loading screens in 90s that could have been made easier if we were able to play arcade games during them.

Acquisitions don't limit developers...they often secure more funding for more creative visions. And at the end of the day the talent doesn't have to stay and we don't have to buy.
Patents though...I reckon we're gonna see more of those this coming gen and it's going to leave a harder impact on gaming that studios being bought.
Do you know Sony just got 'stranding' gameplay elements patented? That Nintendo is trying to get a playable characters ability to morph through objects patented as demonstrated in the new Zelda?

Tencent just vote with your wallet.

Re: November 2021 NPD: Minimal PS5 Stock Leads to Disappointing Hardware Sales

Bleachedsmiles

@theMEGAniggle soon as it's on a decent sale I'll be picking up Returnal.

Tbh I'm not playing it on the ps5 I'm using my PS4 as I'm uncertain how well making games works with the dualsense when it was designed to work with the dualshock. It's probably fine...but I'm also paranoid my cloud save won't carry over or something will mess up (I've lost loads of progress before due to corrupted save)...when I'm so close to finishing a game I've been working on for about a year now (I got set back 3 months of work when my save corrupted). Soon as I have it finished I'll be installing on ps5 where I hear it shines the most noticeable in VR.

Re: Guerrilla Shares PS4 Screenshots of Horizon Forbidden West

Bleachedsmiles

Looks really impressive in stills. It is funny that at the beginning of this new generation Sony's messaging was very much 'we believe in generations'...where as MS was 'we'll not leave Xbox one behind for two years'...a year into their life span later and you have Sony looking at 2022 with cross gen games and MS having ended this year with their last cross gen game in Halo. Next year is going to be interesting...

Re: Mini Review: Twelve Minutes (PS5) - Weird Twist Spoils an Otherwise Intriguing Story

Bleachedsmiles

@Medic_Alert True, and fair to a extent. But there has to be a detachment there...otherwise you get into the conversation of games make you violent - which any already normal stable person knows how weak an argument this is. And also why we have game ratings to protect impressionable minds....just like every other media.
Attaching a personality to an NPC is of course going to affect more than random countless clone npc walking around GTA. But still, a game is a game. And if you're having the stance of 'i would never hurt an innocent in game..if you take pleasure in that you're a psychopath'...well, you're simply not being honest.
At the end of the day the important thing to remember is that you're playing a character in a game...not yourself. Acceptance in that then there really is no argument that you feeling zero guilt over actions a video game character makes through your input means you're going to actively take pleasure in repeating those said actions in real life. That didn't hold up in the 90's...it certainly doesn't hold up now.

Re: Mini Review: Twelve Minutes (PS5) - Weird Twist Spoils an Otherwise Intriguing Story

Bleachedsmiles

@nessisonett Best fun I've ever had in any GTA game was driving around creating random carnage... I dare say I've picked up several hookers and killed them till my little psychopathic heart desired. Mowed down countless innocent NPC's who never did anything to me, or my character...they were simply there. Never once felt any ounce of guilt about it. Let's not pretend you've not found enjoyment at some point in doing the same. Tell me different and I'll show you a liar. C'mon mate. You get the point he's making. Let's not get on our moral high horse about it now.

Re: Hands On: The Matrix Awakens Is an Unreal Demonstration of PS5's Power

Bleachedsmiles

@Weebleman The framerate is far from solid...it drops to single digits it feels.like when driving at high speed and crashing into cars. Changing the traffic and population density really helps this but takes away some of the 'wow' when you've seen everything cranked to 100.
Truly stunning looking tech demo though. Finally felt like a leap from PS4. Went back to playing rachet and clank straight after it and it definitely left that looking last gen...when yesterday it was impressing the hell out of me.
Futures going to look good on these new consoles when they start focusing on getting the best out of them. This unreal engines amazing...just look at hell blade 2.

Re: Talking Point: Did The Game Awards 2021 Live Up to the Hype?

Bleachedsmiles

@Sil_Am I'm comparing the paranoia...but take note what you just wrote 'a random guy in the comments section'... you see him as this YET still use those faithful words that offered you the same comfort they offered those playstation faithful back during uncharteds ign review... pretty ridiculous isn't it. But you do you if it helps you out.

This is about what people thought of the show as a whole. This wasn't a Sony show. Hellblade was shown at the show. And you're sat there wondering why people are bringing it up?
'I'm against influencing but actively suggesting to people what they should and shouldn't talk about'. Like I said, you do you.

Re: Talking Point: Did The Game Awards 2021 Live Up to the Hype?

Bleachedsmiles

@Sil_Am you guys still running with the MS paycheck paranoia? I remember when that was the go-to cry-out during the early PS3 days when games like uncharted didn't get perfect scores from IGN. You know Xbox is doing something right when arguements of 'paychecks' make a come back. Keep fighting the good fight friend.

Re: Talking Point: Did The Game Awards 2021 Live Up to the Hype?

Bleachedsmiles

Had zero expectations going in and it ended up being a more decent show for it. The first half was great. The second continued its problem with being over bloated and self indulgent. And non stop advertising and virtue signalling. They really need to cut the fat and get this show down to under two hours. They probably don't have alot of choice with the sponsors, but the constant videos about 'content creators'...make a separate show dedicated to them.

On the plus side some good reveals and exclusives. Hellblade 2 looked awesome and reason why we need to move on from last gen sooner rather than later.
Suicide squad was graphically great but gameplay was pretty meh tbh...'super hero's' mashing buttons to fight countless non descript enemy...sounds familiar. Hopefully there's more to it. Also reminded me a lot of sunset overdrive.
Star wars game looked intriguing.
And horizon looks like it's going to offer a nice full varied pretty world. Which I could have gotten into the first one.

And called it, take two was always going to win goty.

Re: Dying Light 2 Shambles into View at The Game Awards

Bleachedsmiles

Ever time I see this I get less excited personally. The world looks like a nice playground, with lots of little compact details...the characters look just dated in it by contrast. Animation in cutscenes look dated. Facial animations look dated. But I can look past that and enjoy a game. The writing and acting though...I'm not sure if that's going to get on my nerves. They have Nolan north in this? Why? Do we really need yet another game where he sounds exactly like Nathan Drake...have we not had enough of that last two gens?
The combat looks decent. They're going to over play the glider (I guess it's this games grapple hook). But I'm not yet sold on the rule of three gameplay against a timer if that's going to be a prominent thing... hopefully not.

Re: PS Plus Blocks Free Mortal Shell PS5 Upgrade

Bleachedsmiles

@daveofduncan They've already done that - flight sim isn't on Xbox one. To get around games not being held back by last gen gamepass offers cloud streaming...so those still with an Xbox one can play the latest games and those latest games aren't held back by last gen. So they have it figured out a little at least. They if course also have the benefit of Xbox one selling nowhere near as much as PS4...leaving less people, and money, behind.

Re: PS Plus Blocks Free Mortal Shell PS5 Upgrade

Bleachedsmiles

@Medic_Alert yeah that was shady, they rereleased control as the 'ultimate' edition and stuck the upgrade behind that paywall (I guess their equivalent of a 'directors cut'...the plus version I have is the ultimate edition...but because I downloaded it before having my ps5 (in preparation for the ps5) I'm now locked out of the ps5 version. This is where something like smart delivery would benefit. Hell, it's only been like a little over a month since the ps5 stopped downloading both the PS4 and ps5 versions of games that have ps5 upgrades. Consoles been out a year.

Re: Geoff Keighley Teases 'Four or Five' Elden Ring Calibre Showcases for The Game Awards

Bleachedsmiles

Saw some new horizon gameplay earlier...don't know if it was a leak or not, but it look awesome. So I reckon that will show more in some fashion. Prob god of war too.
I'm really hoping for some new IPs though to get excited about...although, at the same time, I'm not at all interested in seeing games that won't be out for years to come. No cgi trailers please...big ask for this show.

Re: PS Plus Blocks Free Mortal Shell PS5 Upgrade

Bleachedsmiles

Blah blah don't mention gamepass it's over rated... You know what it does without there even needing to be a question? Smart delivery...this means you get the version of the games that run best on your console. There are no conversations about Xbox series X versions.

PsPlus/psnow right this moment actively lock you out of ps5 versions, regardless of if those games have free updates or not. It's been one of the most disappointing realisations when getting the new ps5...load up control ultimate edition...came with plus, locked out of ps5 version. FF 7...got it with plus? Locked out of ps5 version. Borderlands 3...playing on psnow? Locked out of ps5 version. All these had free ps5 upgrades.

Sony really need looking into this first, over 'gamepass killers' offering PS2/3 games.

Also, isn't it about time they stopped locking us out of buying what we want too? Who here hasn't seen a 'game of the year' edition of something and had it show as unavailable because you picked up the standard version on plus? That's been the case for forever now.

Re: Reaction: Merging PS Plus and PS Now Makes Sense, But an Xbox Game Pass Competitor Can't Be Half-Arsed

Bleachedsmiles

@JohnKarnes What is the value of gamepass?...ok. Are we talking actual value of the service or personal value to yourself?if the latter then I can't answer that as anything I say you'll simply counter with it not being to your own interests...right?
So let's focus on the objective value gamepass offers...
Day 1 first party releases. Again, you may not care for halo, Forza, future Bethesda releases ect...but having access to all of them day one gives the service value...just as Sony's first party being on psnow day one would boost the value of that service. I'm sure you can understand that....especially when the alternative is playing these games for £60/70 a pop.
Day 1 3rd party releases. There's been several games that have hit gamepass day one from 3rd party also...The medium. The Ascent. Back for blood. MLB the show. Ect. Again, maybe not to your personal tastes but these are all games that come out the same time on PlayStation costing £50+
Recent releases coming to gamepass first...this month gamepass gets the latest Alien game for example.
A big library of Xbox games spanning all generations.
EA play is also part of gamepass...so get 10hours trial of the newest EA games. Aload of EA games. Again...this service is an additional charge on PlayStation.
Cloud gaming. Stream your games anywhere.
I won't mention online play as I think that should be free for all console gamers in a world of cross play.
Perks - exclusive sales on games. Usually monthly 3rd party perks like 3 months Spotify for a quid ect

There's probably something obvious I'm forgetting but I reckon that's plenty of value the service offers?

Re: Reaction: Merging PS Plus and PS Now Makes Sense, But an Xbox Game Pass Competitor Can't Be Half-Arsed

Bleachedsmiles

@Carl-G because we all just play solitaire and snake on it. It's amazing.

Meanwhile...pretty much every week there's a news post in here about a game thats on gamepass finally hitting playstation. Or articles on 'sonys answer to gamepass', or posts saying they 'played this on gamepass'....all because it offers nothing more than mobile games. Crazy isn't it.

Re: Reaction: Merging PS Plus and PS Now Makes Sense, But an Xbox Game Pass Competitor Can't Be Half-Arsed

Bleachedsmiles

@FullMetalWesker ok...so tell me why you believe Devs/publishers are putting their games on gamepass for free. If they got nothing out of putting games on gamepass they wouldn't...unless you think they're all idiots? Either way, why should I be concerned, as a gamer, about their own choice to place themselves on gamepass if they're not concerned about making that choice?
Only caring about the deal is incredibly selfish??? Am I getting gamepass for free? Am I getting plus for free? Is psnow free? Do you deny yourself plus over concerns for the game Devs who place their games on it each month? Maybe you should start paying for gamepass and make sure it gets more money...you may sleep better.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Dazzles with Unedited Deep Forest Raceway PS5 Gameplay

Bleachedsmiles

I'll get this because I love gran turismo...but if you had told me that was the one I already own on PS4 I would have gone along with it. It still looks like they're using 2D backdrops. The trees do look better...but it all looks a bit too 'clean'. I was hoping for dust and exhausts and the sun showing the grime on the windscreen. Little things that all add up.

I just really hope the full experience is playable on psvr this time

Re: Reaction: Merging PS Plus and PS Now Makes Sense, But an Xbox Game Pass Competitor Can't Be Half-Arsed

Bleachedsmiles

@FullMetalWesker 'youre so selfish for enjoying gamepass right now, you should be wanting Sony to keep buying up all the timed exclusives....it's the only way gaming survives!'
Dude, take a step back. Gamepass is great value for gamers, and great for gamers. If it ends up 'not working' because it's not sustainable then the gaming industry doesn't die. What are you on? Gaming has survived far worse than gamepass. You all act like gamepass just came out this year and that it will destroy everything...and it's only ever on PlayStation boards where you hear so much 'concern' over gamepass being sustainable...funny that. Xbox gamers are simply enjoying. If it goes it goes...the point is they're not wasting years denying themselves the chance to try all the games that are on it...whilst you're asked to spend £70 a pop to see if you like them or not. Notice none of you ever bring up the price increase Sony adopted this gen as being bad for gaming...how many more would have tried Returnal had it been reasonably priced? I know I would've.
