Played a few games online last night with the 10hr free trial. It’s not bad. But man you spend ages waiting…waiting for a game to be set up, waiting for a game to start, waiting for a game to finish…
Visually the game is a bit of a mixed bag at times…online seems a bit stripped back. But the weather effects are great…particularly rain. I assume, like Dirt, this has ex drive club talent working on it.
The single player…well, I think I played 30mins of it. I feel like 10mins of that was spent seeing the title card on the screen.
It has fmv interlaced with in engine content. The fmv is filmed docu/mocu style…basically feels like watching an episode of the office if the office was based around racing cars…knowing looks to the camera. Uncomfortable stilted awkward chemistry between characters. It’s pretty hilarious…I’m not yet sure if it’s meant to be.
@munstre people are over reacting right now on something that’s yet to be confirmed. But ‘monthly bonus’s’ insinuates they’re behaving entitled…like Sony is doing them a favour giving out monthly games…when the reality is they’re part of a service Sony charge monthly for. There’s no ‘entitlement’ wanting that service to be good. Removal of those games you’re being charged for cloud saves (which are free on every other platform), and access to the online portion of the games you’ve already been charged for…(which blindly accepting online behind a paywall in 2022 is crazy).
@TheRedComet flipping between performance and ray tracing on ps5 it’s very hard to tell what difference raytracing is making tbh. Ray tracing really doesn’t seem to be worth the frame rate hit. Also, the next gen update is clearly working off the previous console patches - meaning when driving around they’ve still cut down the amount of cars on the road at a given a time. The streets were far busier when the game first released. And I’m sure Jonny silverhands has had a visual downgrade. The character model just doesn’t look as realistic as I remember…but maybe that’s in my head. Npc models on a whole look better though
How is this still an issue over a year in the ps5 life cycle? I go to update the game…finally updates then find i actually need to go to the store to get the ps5 version and redownload the whole game again. Why doesn’t the ps5 just recognise I own a ps5? Is it really that difficult?
@banacheck Yeah you hit the nail on the head. VRR is an extra cherry on top for series X/s owners right now. And does make a difference…but why the hell are those that are able to take advantage of it so eagerly applauding it? …rather than demanding games come out better optimised in the first place. That’s pretty odd when you think about it. When additional tech supports different resolutions that’s one thing…any sort of reliance on additional tech to sort out your fluctuating frame rate is a completely different matter and something that we should get into the mentality that we’re paying them to fix when they ask for 60-70 for the games
So what’s actually going on here then? Why is it not being discounted on the PlayStation store? I’m sure we’ve heard before about devs frustrations with getting things on sale when they want to on psn before
@NEStalgia both Nintendo and Xbox do an additional incentive to purchase digitally too by rewarding a certain amount of points with each purchase you can then use to get further discounts etc. I’d like to see PlayStation adopt something similar to that. Hell since getting my series x and gamepass I’ve been getting addicted to it’s ‘quests’ system…which rewards for doing pretty much anything. In about 3 weeks I’ve ‘earned’ probably just over £2 in points. Which may not sound like much initially…but soon adds up over the year. I kept reading comments on how people were pretty much getting gamepass for free just by using the service and collecting their points…thought it was just fanboy nonsense but I can see how you could do that now. When PlayStation gets it’s new service I’d love to see some sort of reward system integrated into it like gamepass
No way! So many here claimed they felt fine about paying £70 for games…they surely won’t pay for the PS4 version to save money now…surely not! I’m so torn on what I want…on the one hand I want Sony dropping the £70rrp as that benefits me…and they only way they’ll do that is if the sales of the ps5 version are lower than expected…so by all means buy the cheaper PS4 version. On the other hand…I don’t want Sony going into next year releasing all their games crossgen still…I want them taking full advantage of the ps5 as that’s what benefits me. So suck it up and put your money where your mouth is and pay the £70rrp! What a predicament.
This is what I miss in online racing games. FH is great but it’s not for just hopping into to play some races. All I want is a mariokart set up…where you can vote for the track beforehand but can’t have the same track twice and just race
@Medic_Alert not necessarily. Sonys mentality was to use exclusives to sell hardware…it served no benefit to put them on plus. This is why even now sony exclusives don’t stay on psnow for long as they’re still used to shift hardware. Sonys mentality is slowly changing though. They want to get subscribers…which is why they’re supposedly releasing a new subscription model. And why the messaging of Sony has changed where they want to go beyond hardware.
If they can do it they should stick this on one of their subscription services…it’s the perfect game for it, and opportunity to test the water and see if numbers go up. Or if a new service hits around the same time it would be a decent incentive to get people signing up. If they can’t do it they can’t. Either way, I’m not arguing with you over a damn idea.
@Medic_Alert You think MS let them have this game on ps5 for a year no questions asked? They had no choice as Sony have a contract for exclusive rights to it for a year…which it’s not completely unreasonable to think may include how they wish to distribute it.
Sony are so funny at times… paying to keep games off other platforms for year/s finally came back and bites them in the butt…so they no doubt resent marketing this. On the other hand, they paid a lot of money for that timed exclusivity… so what do you do? Stealth release an ‘official showcase’. Heh either spend more money to market the game or don’t.
What they should do is use this game to promote psplus. Get themselves more subscriptions off the back of it by having it release on Plus or even Now day 1. Imagine if this was the launch game on their new service.
I’m a bit suspect on the ray tracing implementation…but the only real disappointment about this was there was nothing on VR support. I really hoped that if they couldn’t announce psvr2 support yet they’d still show it was supporting original Psvr again
This was so strange. It sounded pretty decent…almost like a time trail arcade mode but having to keep the music going. Or the potential to gather extra beats and create new mixes when racing with people. But then I watched ign preview and it’s being more sold as a kids mode
firstly I think it’s made for some hilarious readings from the reaction of it.
Secondly, I think it’s brought attention to just how many think Bungie own Halo. Which makes zero sense.
Thirdly, I think it’s a needed move by Sony if they want to get aggressive with service games. Bungie will be able to offer a lot in that.
Lastly, I think it’s potentially a little worrying the direction Sony is going in with the ps5…and if you’re a PlayStation purest you’re not going to have a good time. I think it’s clear the path Sony wants to take…and if you don’t like live services, or still holding hope that first party are going to take years to hit pc, you’re gonna be in for a rough ride. There’s a strong sense of PlayStation (who outsell Xbox) playing catch up.
Man Sony fanboys brains are literally breaking on twitter since Sony got Bungie…I thought E3 was bad when Xbox had a good showing and all they got was silence and ended up wearing tin foil hats and convincing themselves abandoned was silent hills… now it’s like they’re malfunctioning…
Generations of programming themselves to believe halos trash and always been trash…now somethings spasming in their brain as they change the narrative that halo was good when Bungie made it.
A year of burning the words ‘organic growth’ into their minds…a card played with pride whenever ms bought a studio…now their eyes are twitching as Sony didn’t get the memo and bought Bungie…now the narrative needs to be spun again. Don’t mention organic growth to them…they’ll bite you. Now it’s “they did this so that cod has to be on PlayStation or we’ll keep halo off Xbox”…it’s truly amazing how many think Sony now owns halo.
Generations of ‘exclusives are good’…now violently shaking as they force the new narrative of “see this is why Sony are so great, when they buy a studio they allow them to still make games on other platforms…not like Xbox”…when every single one of them had their excitement drop ten fold when Bungie instantly said they’re staying multi platform.
Years of berating Xbox for their push for live service games, hating on subscriptions ect…now the realisation dawns on them the real reason why sony bought Bungie… and with a glazed look over their once twitching face they have to now spin a new narrative that they want more of a focus on live service…that subscriptions don’t suck, because they want their ‘gamepass killer’
Basically, if this gen should teach all fanboys anything it’s that you have to be very careful what you say…say you hate Percy pig and before you know it the platform your fanboying for buys Percy pig. It is the way.
@Carl-G no one is buying the disc version of anything forever on any platform. The game that’s on the physical media you’re preserving hasn’t been the game you end up playing for a generation now…that’s not gonna get any better. Tell me the last game you played that came out that didn’t have a day 1 patch waiting for you?…hell even Nintendo games need day 1 patches these days
@MisterXpoSay you’ve been under a rock. MS are buying activision… you know what the biggest selling games are for casual gamers? FIFA and cod. Guess which one will be on gamepass day1? Gamepass is going to benefit every gamer…that’s the aim anyway
@thefourfoldroot You should spend £450 instead of 500…and you can get gamepass a lot cheaper than £100 a year. £60 got me two years…and you could probably get better than that
Ah the point of this becomes a bit clearer now. Why pay so much for one studio who keep saying they want to be independent yet keep going back to juggernauts?… Sony said at the start on this gen their focus will shift more towards multiplayer live services…Bungie will obviously play a big part in that. I’m guessing they’ll share their network code with other Sony games that will be pushing for live services. Live services are important for subscription services…so all those that hate subscription services right now aren’t going to be in for a good time as this gen goes on.
@Col_McCafferty You are incredibly stupid if you think Microsoft are trying to put Sony out of the gaming industry…I mean seriously, you need to pay closer attention.
MS want gamepass on PlayStation…they don’t want an end to PlayStation. The console war is in your head not theirs.
Is there anything more depressing than having graphical/performance options on console games? Point of a closed box is games are optimised to the very best the hardware is capable of. “Here, let me beat you over the head with the message that your £450 box can’t play cross gen games 4k 60. But it’s cool…allow me to allow you the option of anally flicking back and fourth between modes whilst you play through our game cause we know you can’t quite sit there and just enjoy whilst tormenting yourself knowing it looks better in quality mode but runs *****”…oh yeah, having pc like options in console games is great, thanks.
@AngryChainsaw_ MS has already said they’d like it on both Sony and Nintendo platforms. This is also why they keep using certain wording suggesting it’s not their intent to split communities or deny playstation players. That games will be available on all platforms that have gamepass. Sony fanboys just scream “lie” without understanding what’s actually going on. Typical Sony fanboys tbh.
Every PlayStation fanboy and their dog have been stressing about MS financial troubles and how gamepass can possibly survive…How they must surely need to release starfield fall out elder scrolls on PlayStation to make their money back ect… why are lessons still not being learned?
1) MS don’t need to release any games on PlayStation out of concern of losing sales. Let’s all relax and accept that. How many times do they need to flex for people to see money isn’t an issue for them? 2) MS DONT see PlayStation as competition. Nor do they want the death of PlayStation. How are people still not getting that the ‘war’ is in their heads. That Microsoft’s end game is to have gamepass on PlayStation! They want gamepass on everything!
So all those here that constantly hate on gamepass would it really be the worse thing in the world if it was on PlayStation? Would the narrative suddenly change if you had access to everything? Seriously, Sony should just allow gamepass on and gamers reep the rewards. As at some point the aim is for MS to make them have very little choice…EA next
@alexbolton2 The narrative of MS HAS TO bring a game to PlayStation to gain money back has to stop now. They said the same when MS spent 7 billion? On Bethesda…MS just flexed and spent 68 billion on this. What does that flex say? Ms aren’t short of money to be worrying about having to bring games to PlayStation if they don’t want to.
This acquisition also teaches us PlayStation isnt who MS is competing with. There’s a bigger picture out there.
This acquisition totally benefits me, and anyone with gamepass. But I just don’t get how this is worth 68billion? A lot of dead ip. A lot of falling sales figures and player counts. A lot of negativity around the activision and blizzard. And a lot of talent leaving/left.
I just keep thinking 68billion could have bought WB games AND take two…giving them licences for Lego Batman mortal Kombat AND GTA…
Red dead 2 was one of the best games to be released last gen. But I don’t think anyone was buying for online. Red dead ones online was just a pacing fancy. And no matter what they do to it it’s never going to be immediate appealing a setting as modern day with all the variety that offers. I’ve no idea how you save this now…probably should add a zombie mode with another nightmare dlc
Love the art style of this..one of the best looking games last year. Has its issues but then you remind yourself it was made by like 12 people. Impressive stuff.
@Balosi You’re not thinking about things logically, just passionately. It’s a numbers game. Everyone, even Xbox fanboys, can agree PlayStation has a bigger fanbase. Logically that will always translate into their being more vocal fanboys of PlayStation than Xbox. Logically that will always translate in more of those vocal fanboys being toxic on PlayStation than Xbox.
We can also all agree that the biggest section of nintendos fanbase are younger kids and more casual players…which we can all safely assume translates to a lesser vocal fanbase on the internet…even though switch is king when it comes to sales.
I don’t agree with this new narrative of ‘it’s only a plastic box!’… it’s not. It’s also the sense of belonging to a community. Everybody is searching for like minded people, for a sense of belonging. It’s why they adopt sports teams for life. Religion. Why shouldn’t consoles be any different? So I understand why there are fanboys. Why certain people are wired to defend a plastic box, and feel loyal to a company that provides it. But with that, with any following, it attracts the most vulnerable and unstable. And like I said, it’s a numbers game. So come on mate, let’s never pretend there’s just as much toxicity on Xbox and nintendos side. It’s simply not adding up.
Will say though…read through this thread and take notice of how many times halo has been mentioned. Now go into an Xbox comments thread on this sister site pure Xbox, I’ll let you have any thread, and count how many times a specific ps5 game is mentioned, I’ll give you any game. And, if you’re feeling particularly brave, count up how many times gamepass is mentioned in this one thread…go over to pure Xbox and count how many times psplus and ps now are mentioned in any thread of your choosing.
Point is, you really don’t have to look very far on here, YouTube, twitter ect to find Sony fanboys obsessing over Xbox…whilst likely at the same time dismissing them. And yet their they live…eating away at you.
@mucc not just this site…Sony fanboys in general have gamepass living rent free in their head. Hardly ever hear Nintendo fanboys concern themselves so much about it. Xbox fanboys praise it, and goad them…as it’s easy pickings. But man… Sony fanboys are spooked…they’re so worried how much money it makes, how it’s hurting gaming, how it’s the devils work, how it’s dying, how they don’t care about it, how subscription services are the devils work, how Sonys going to come out with subscription service that will kill it. These guys are all over the place. It’s frankly hilarious. I’ve never heard Xbox fanboys worry about gamepass killing gaming, quality of games on it, if ms are making money… Xbox fanboys are simply taking advantage of a service that offers great value. I never heard of Xbox fanboys having sleepless nights over Sonys subscription services. Sony fanboys are a different breed.

@munstre people are over reacting right now on something that’s yet to be confirmed. Re: Sony's Releasing a PS4 System Update to Fix Cyberpunk 2077 Disc Issues
I hope they fix the ps5 issue where if you’re playing via the disc it keeps installing the PS4 cyberpunk tile next to the ps5 cyberpunk tile.
Also, had two hard crashes already since the new patch in the space of about 4 hours gameplay. So still some work to be done there

Re: Analyst Expects PS5 to Seriously Outperform Xbox This Year
Well I know I for one can sleep soundly tonight knowing Sony is making money. Phew!
Re: All These Activision Blizzard Studios Will Likely Cease PlayStation Development
Trust, MS want gamepass on PlayStation
Re: All These Activision Blizzard Studios Will Likely Cease PlayStation Development
Re: These Are the Franchises PS5, PS4 May Lose to Activision Blizzard Buyout
@alexbolton2 The narrative of MS HAS TO bring a game to PlayStation to gain money back has to stop now. They said the same when MS spent 7 billion? On Bethesda…MS just flexed and spent 68 billion on this. What does that flex say? Ms aren’t short of money to be worrying about having to bring games to PlayStation if they don’t want to.
This acquisition also teaches us PlayStation isnt who MS is competing with. There’s a bigger picture out there.
Re: These Are the Franchises PS5, PS4 May Lose to Activision Blizzard Buyout
This acquisition totally benefits me, and anyone with gamepass. But I just don’t get how this is worth 68billion? A lot of dead ip. A lot of falling sales figures and player counts. A lot of negativity around the activision and blizzard. And a lot of talent leaving/left.
I just keep thinking 68billion could have bought WB games AND take two…giving them licences for Lego Batman mortal Kombat AND GTA…
Re: Sony Stock Value Loses $20 Billion, But Will Likely Recover
This is the time for Microsoft to buy Sony and cancel the activision deal. A genius business move.
Unlike paying 68billion for activision…
Re: Red Dead Online's Paltry PS4 Updates Continue to Frustrate Fans
Red dead 2 was one of the best games to be released last gen. But I don’t think anyone was buying for online. Red dead ones online was just a pacing fancy. And no matter what they do to it it’s never going to be immediate appealing a setting as modern day with all the variety that offers. I’ve no idea how you save this now…probably should add a zombie mode with another nightmare dlc
Re: The ESRB Rates Action RPG The Ascent for PS5, PS4
Love the art style of this..one of the best looking games last year. Has its issues but then you remind yourself it was made by like 12 people. Impressive stuff.
Re: No Plans for Ubisoft+ on PS5, PS4 At This Time, Rainbow Six Extraction Full-Price on PlayStation
@mmcgr94 I have both. Not hard to find that out if you care that much.
Re: No Plans for Ubisoft+ on PS5, PS4 At This Time, Rainbow Six Extraction Full-Price on PlayStation
Re: No Plans for Ubisoft+ on PS5, PS4 At This Time, Rainbow Six Extraction Full-Price on PlayStation
@mmcgr94 don’t really need to add much to this…
Will say though…read through this thread and take notice of how many times halo has been mentioned.
Get both.
Re: No Plans for Ubisoft+ on PS5, PS4 At This Time, Rainbow Six Extraction Full-Price on PlayStation
Re: No Plans for Ubisoft+ on PS5, PS4 At This Time, Rainbow Six Extraction Full-Price on PlayStation
@KayOL77 what game breaking bugs? Which game?
Re: No Plans for Ubisoft+ on PS5, PS4 At This Time, Rainbow Six Extraction Full-Price on PlayStation
@Dezzy70 wow…you’re really not very self aware are you?
Re: PSVR2's Horizon Call of the Mountain Will 'Change What AAA Means for VR'
@Medic_Alert did you know that Sony has patented the ‘stranding’ gameplay mechanic so no other games outside of them can use it now…
