Re: Kojima Productions Not Being Bought by Sony, Says Hideo Kojima

Bleachedsmiles

@Perturbator MS have bought studios that have struggled making money. I imagine them having far bigger budgets is only a good thing for them. MS have also been so hands off with their studios that it’s got to the point their studios are complaining about lack of management.
Publisher acquisitions are different. But what you have to remind yourself with both (and I don’t get why people seem so keen to neglect this) you can only buy what people are willing to sell. So if it means studios don’t get closed by buying these publishers that are clearly looking to sell for a reason, then it can only be a good thing a company like MS buy them…for the devs, and especially for the gamers who will likely get these games as part of their subscriptions now.
So yeah, I can’t see a downside about publishers/dev studios wanting to be bought and getting bought by MS/Sony/Nintendo. Tencent not so much

Re: Kojima Productions Not Being Bought by Sony, Says Hideo Kojima

Bleachedsmiles

Well I think Sony have rights to the death stranding IP. And a few months back they patented the ‘stranding’ gameplay mechanic (notice PlayStation fanboys didn’t cry about making gameplay mechanics exclusive being damaging to gaming)…so maybe the hint is that a sequel is coming rather than them buying the studio. Would make sense.

Re: Semi-Open World Action Game Hell is Us Gets Weird on PS5 in 2023

Bleachedsmiles

It’s always funny reading articles about multi platform games and how different sites address them. Take this news article for example, Purexbox thinks nothing of mentioning it’s coming to PS5. Very rarely do I see PlayStation focused ones dare mention a games also coming to Xbox. This probably says a lot about either the writers or their views on the readers…

Re: Returnal Team Hopeful PS Plus Extra Members Will 'Dare to Try It'

Bleachedsmiles

@hbkay I’m still not sold on them. I was going to get 12 months now for £48 but then I add that to the £40 I’ve already paid for plus and what am I actually getting? The only BC games I play on my ps5 are PS4 titles like everybody else. And the only game I currently don’t own that I know is coming to the service is Returnal which will likely drop in retail price once it does come.
There’s just too many unknowns. What’s the third party support going to be like. Apparently Xbox paid 100mill for guardians to come to it not even day 1…how’s Sony going to compete with third party deals. Maybe the third party exclusives will hit…in which case things will start to look more attractive. Right now I don’t even know how long game trials will be. Will they end up being no more than demos I’m paying for? Or will they be substantial like EAPlay offers?

Re: Video: What's Going on with The Last of Us 2's PS5, PS4 Multiplayer Mode?

Bleachedsmiles

I’m sure this was initially reported to be a free download coming soon after the main game? Anyway, enjoyed the multiplayer for the first, so hopefully this will be good …there’s plenty of potential there. Unfortunately there’s also plenty of potential for Sony to try and screw us…so with their eagerness to push more live service games this gen I reckon this could be used as a litmus test…test things on the strength of a popular IP - hopefully this means releasing day1 on their subscription services…rather than copying what they did with GT7.

How Sony play out this gen is going to be very interesting…certainly not predictable as I’m not even sure they know what the plan is fully yet. Least that’s the impression they give.

Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives Not Coming to PS Plus at Launch

Bleachedsmiles

@Cikajovazmaj you’re using third party because you’re typically moving the goal posts right?…I mean conspiracies over media bias toward Xbox on 3rd party reviews has no real place in an argument over a perceived drop in quality of Xbox studio games since hitting day 1 do they? And let’s be honest, we can just as easily go down the media bias rout when it comes to how PlayStation exclusive games are treated today - cry conspiracy because these outlets don’t want the backlash that comes with criticising Sony first party. Why risk losing clicks. Yeah?

So if I can’t take critical reception on board. And I can’t take production time and budget on board, as way of argument that the statement and suggestion that gamepass day 1 releases has seen a drop in quality/is the reason for this perceived drop in quality…what can I use?
Player reception? Awards won? What? Where are you moving the goal posts to?

Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives Not Coming to PS Plus at Launch

Bleachedsmiles

@Cikajovazmaj omg get out of here! It’s the age old tired excuse of media bias. Maybe some games perform better on Xbox? Maybe vice versa… cries of media bias have been going on since Nintendo and sega…constantly flipping depending on which side of the fence you’re jailing yourself. Heh ps3 it was a common cry that everyone and their dog was ‘in Microsoft’s pocket’ whenever a Sony exclusive scored as low as an 8. Then during last gen it’s was often seen as media bias towards the PS4… seriously behave.

And also, what does media bias of third party games have to do with Xbox game studio games?

Re: Sony's Cloud Streamed PS3 Games Are Causing a Storm on Social Media

Bleachedsmiles

Think it’s pretty obvious that for all the push now to support bringing backwards compatibility Sony still don’t really believe in it making them money. It’s niche. So why spend money working out how to emulate ps3 games to a decent standard when you can save time and stream them. check which site I’m on And I for one applaud them. Nostalgia’s nice to dip in to, but if I wanted to spend any decent amount of time there I’d have kept my ps3.

The more I think about these new tiers the more I’m left wondering just what they’re offering extra beyond sticking psplus and Now together. They sound more like a good promotion to let me know Returnal is coming to ps now.
I really hope we get more information soon on just what third party deals they’ve done. How long these games stay on the service for. How long trials are. And what the cut off point between trial and full release on the tiers is. They really haven’t communicated this well at all.

Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives Not Coming to PS Plus at Launch

Bleachedsmiles

@Nyne11Tyme Indeed, Xbox should be putting out some bangers. Ok…since gamepass was introduced how many studios has Microsoft invested in a bought? How many studios gaming studios for Xbox did Microsoft own before gamepass? This tells me how Microsoft viewed the Xbox before gamepass and now with gamepass.
Games take time. They will be coming. But I can’t judge quality of games that don’t currently exist outside of development.
This conversation is about the statement that since Microsoft has dropped their games day 1 on gamepass we’ve seen a drop in quality from them. Suggesting the xbox one generation they released banger after banger. I’m sure all here agree xbox one had some amazing games, I mean they couldn’t miss with all the hits and awards those games got.
Personally, I see xbox games studios returning to form…in order to return to form in my head they would have already had to have had a drop in quality. Critical reception of recent games seems to back up this thought process.
It’s depressing that yet another halo/Forza is used as example, yes. But that’s what’s available…alongside other well reviewed games that have come from their studios day1 on gamepass.

Of course, this being Sony central the argument changes once again from ‘seen a drop in quality in games since coming day1 to gamepass’…to, ‘those games were in development for years, gamepass didn’t effect quality either way’…in which case the point still stands - we haven’t seen a drop in quality of Xbox games studios games due to them hitting gamepass day 1. If you guys want to add a “yet” in there to make you feel better then fine.

And again, to be clear. This is regarding Xbox. Not Sony. The statement I replied to wasn’t about Sony. And I’m not saying Sony has the same resources to bring their games day 1 to their services and not have quality suffer…in fact I think one of the first things I said was trials makes more sense for Sony.

Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives Not Coming to PS Plus at Launch

Bleachedsmiles

@Cikajovazmaj I’m not mixing up anything. My replies are to the suggestion that releases from Xbox studios have seen a hit in quality since releasing day 1 on gamepass. Which isn’t the case if we go by review metrics. This is a statement made at a time where Xbox game studios games are being critically praised more now than they have been in years. This can not be argued against. It’s not my opinion, it’s fact. It just doesn’t fit the narrative of gamepass equals poorer quality games.
Critically regarded and personally regarded are different.
The suggestion that releasing games day 1 on gamepass effects quality has to also be expanded on if that was even the case…so how? Why?
The example of halo infinite releasing unfinished is used. But it’s proven that it being released on gamepass didn’t effect its budget or the time given for development. So the reason of ‘because of gamepass’ become moot. Halo released in an unfinished state because of poor management.

Again. My replies are concerning the statements about gamepass and xbox studios games quality hitting it. Not PlayStation subscriptions and the possible quality concerns of them releasing games day 1.
But when we’re given clear examples that money first quality second let’s not run with the narrative that Sony only aren’t offering day 1 releases because they care about quality.

Games releasing unfinished when subscriptions become the standard and Sony eventually do release their games day 1 on them is a different topic. It could be argued that we’ve been getting unfinished games released physically day 1 for years.

One day Sony will release games day 1 on streaming platforms. That futures inevitable. And they’ll be concerns over quality for sure. But there’s also always going to be competition. And this is why competition is good…because it ensures a certain level of quality.

Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives Not Coming to PS Plus at Launch

Bleachedsmiles

@Cikajovazmaj I think people need to step back and look at things logically. First, if Sony cared about quality of the game above anything else then these upcoming ps5 games wouldn’t be made with the PS4 in mind too…but would instead be made to take full advantage of the ps5. Making money is priority in all business. Releasing future ps5 titles on PS4 benefits Sony a lot more than it benefits ps5 owners. Let’s not pretend different…unless you expect to see no difference in the quality of games once they do eventually move away from PS4.
Second. You’ve seen how they’re willing to treat £70 first party games…how they’re willing to add mtx and limit offline so they can gimp progress made to support mtx. That’s not for the sake of quality.
Third. Even if day 1 releases from Xbox studios has seen a drop in quality (which they haven’t if you go by metrics) the suggestion of this being due to the gamepass subscription ignores the fact that Microsoft is investing far bigger budgets in these games. Halo came out unfinished, I agree…but it’s also reportedly one of the most expensive games that’s been made right? That also was in development for how long? 5/6/7 years? This tells us what? It certainly doesn’t tell us that a subscription service lead to halo not getting the proper time and budget it needed to ensure quality does it?

Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives Not Coming to PS Plus at Launch

Bleachedsmiles

@Widey85 @Martsmall I imagine we will say day 1 games at some point…they’ll be the live service ones.

How long they’ll stay will also be interesting. You’d think they’d follow MS and one they’re on they’re on for good. But Sony first party stayed on Now for such a short time so who knows.

Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives Not Coming to PS Plus at Launch

Bleachedsmiles

@EquiinoxGII You haven’t seen a drop in quality though. You’ve seen Xbox finally releasing critically acclaimed games. Halo infinite was undoubtedly better received than halo 5 that didn’t hit gamepass day1. Flight sim got plenty of critical praise. Psychonaughts day1 got plenty of critical praise. In fact I think last year Xbox studios had more game nominations in the game of the year awards than they had all through last gen…

Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives Not Coming to PS Plus at Launch

Bleachedsmiles

Hmmm would I prefer PlayStation games released day 1 on a subscription service or be asked to pay £70 for each one…thats a tricky one.

I can see why they’re doing it this way, but I don’t pretend it benefits me more than them.

The big questions I have will be just how long a trial can they ‘afford’ to give away with each game…am I basically going to be paying for 30mins or am I going to get 6 hours? Basically are Sony going to be as generous as EA?
And then how long after the trial do I have to wait till they games are released on the next tier down?
And what of 3rd party…will they be hitting either tier day 1? Will they be trials on Sonys most expensive tier too? Or can third party afford to place day 1 releases on it?

Re: PS Plus, PS Now Merged Service Revealed, Goes Live in June

Bleachedsmiles

It’s going to be interesting to see how they separate ps5 games between extra and premium…I’m assuming game trials will be of the latest releases…and length of those trials will depend on the game… I wonder how much they’ll effect extras ps5 game offerings …what the cut off point will be between say Wolverine being a trial to becoming the full game experience…and if it’s say only 6 months how many people will simply wait those 6 months to get the game with extra rather than shell out for premium or buy the game out right.

Either way, the chance to play these games without spending £70 first is always going to work in gamers favour - hopefully those just on Sonys platforms will all understand this now that Sony themselves are doing it.

Re: Suicide Squad PS5 Will Not Kill the Justice League Until 2023

Bleachedsmiles

Love the visuals and premise, but tbh the gameplay trailers weren’t doing much for me. Felt like I was watching sunset overdrive from however many years ago.
I’d love to give rocksteady the benefit of the doubt but the gaming landscapes changed so much in 7 years. I hope they give us more than just a brawler in an open world filled with busy work. I don’t doubt the writing will be on point though.

It looks like Warner brothers have them firmly in the DC universe. I’d love to see them try and pull off a slower paced detective focused Batman game

Re: Did Xbox Game Pass Execs Just Out PS5, PS4's Rumoured PS Plus Reboot?

Bleachedsmiles

Subscription models definitely diversify players tastes and improve engagement. The whole ‘increase sales’ I’m not sure about yet - but, as long as everyone gets paid, that doesn’t concern me as a player who’s currently reaping the rewards of having gamepass.

Now the one thing that I think PlayStation need to adopt as part of their rumoured subscription service is a similar rewards system that Xbox offers with gamepass. This 100% increases player engagement. This is something that’s often over looked but is a huge benefit for Xbox players. And if Sony adopted it would easily become more engaging than trophies.
Daily/weekly tasks that reward you with currency. Introduce you to new games. Honestly, it’s addicting and something the PlayStation faithful would really end up taking advantage of…especially when we’re mostly nickel and dimed over on this side lately.
We’re about to get into April and since Christmas I’ve earned about £18 by doing very little.

Re: Ghostwire: Tokyo (PS5) - Not the Bethesda Swansong We Hoped For

Bleachedsmiles

Comments are as hilarious as could have been predicted from the dreaded ‘6’. Gotta love coping mechanisms that switches the brain to excitedly claim this as a huge L for Xbox…when PlayStation paid a years worth exclusivity for it.

Plus we all know those currently trying to grasp a hypothetical comfort blanket that this getting the dreaded 6 means they’re fine with all future Bethesda games not now hitting PlayStation we’re the first on the twitter frontlines begging for starfield not to be exclusive. Will be the first begging for the next fallout, elder scrolls, and whatever tango games and Arkane put out next.

Another day in paradise

Re: Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Patch Restores Servers After 24 Hours, Polyphony Digital Comments on Microtransactions

Bleachedsmiles

@Titntin I’m super interested to know why you consider optional microtransactions in a f2p game on Xbox a ‘cynical ploy. But not microtransactions in a £70 game on PlayStation. Explain your thought process on reaching to even bring up FH5 and Halo infinite in a news story about GT7 as some desperate attempt to ‘balance’ negative feedback a Sony exclusive IP is getting…negative feedback that would actually benefit you if PlayStation take it onboard.
This is what I don’t get about you guys. To a big extent you’re entertaining in your relentless stupidity. But then I own a ps5 and don’t want the constant BS that has come with it…because it doesn’t benefit me. You defenders of BS benefit me entertainment wise but not financially. It’s a constant struggle.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Patch Restores Servers After 24 Hours, Polyphony Digital Comments on Microtransactions

Bleachedsmiles

@fybyfyby You’re right! There is no problem here. I hope for your sake that Sonys live service £70 games going forward have similar grinding and microtransaction options. They’re not the games we need. They’re the games we deserve.

Also, bare one tiny consideration and ask yourself why they added to the grind of credits and aggressive microtransactions outside of the review copies…if there’s no problem with it. Other games have done similar…they don’t get a pass. Why should a Sony exclusive? …or have I answers my own question there?

Re: Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Patch Restores Servers After 24 Hours, Polyphony Digital Comments on Microtransactions

Bleachedsmiles

@fybyfyby Gamers are not annoyed that there’s an option to buy cars with real money. They’re annoyed that a £70 game requires so much grinding to earn a single car (basically far longer grinding than previous GT games). Nobody should want an aggressive f2p model in a £70 game…and you should understand why that would be a bad thing going forward.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 (PS5) - The Real Driving Simulator Makes Its Grand Return

Bleachedsmiles

Sounds good…but, I’m a little concerned that the price of everything seems so high compared to earnings…combined with the option of paying real money for fake they’re pushing.
It’s also a little disappointing ray tracing is so limited again in yet another game on these new consoles.
And it’s ALOT disappointing that there’s no inclusion of any psvr support at launch when the last one had it and there’s really no reason this one couldn’t have offered the full experience in VR now and simply update that experience when psvr2 hits. That’s a real shame.

Re: Tom Holland's Uncharted Movie Strikes Gold As Box Office Total Crosses $225 Million

Bleachedsmiles

@nessisonett Have you seen Uncharted? Did you have high expectations going in?

I had zero expectations on it being good and was actually pleasantly surprised. It’s not deep…but neither are the games. It’s a popcorn movie. And it’s really not a bad one. Solid 7 from me. My girlfriend, who has no relationship with the uncharted games, gave it an 8. It’s an easy, inoffensive, watch - which is high-praise for a video game adaptation.
