Another month that extra shames GP, at least in my book. It's going to be interesting to see if general opinion is going to swing toward realistically beefier PS service or not (although it's often more important to be first than it is to be better).
I have no interest and zero confidence in future of mobile gaming. Really hoped they would use resources to expand into something that might benefit me as a user. Oh well.. at least kids around the world will get some familiar skins to throw money at on their phone.
Weirdly, I played through first episode of The dark anthology last week, and just found out yesterday I also own/have access to episode two. So I'll be playing through that (they are far more enjoyable in a "I'm ashamed of liking this" kind of way then I expected).
Not a bad Extra offering, couldn't care less about Premium (Sony probably pulled data that only reviewers started classic games over last 2 months, so decided to invest budget into current gaming).
Great game and a perfect fit for launch to PS Extra model. It's not probable to get AAA games day one (while keeping quality), but awesome co-promoted indies are more realistic expectation.
Doesn't feel like Sony problem, this is just pure Atlus greed. They are re-releasing the same game for other platforms, so would like to sweep another round of sales on PS5 too. If there is still any hope for the world, they'll fail miserably.
Tried it for a couple of hours yesterday.. a better game than I expected (gameplay is exactly as I wanted it to be, and there are fewer technical issues than I encounter with typical indie releases). That said, I do live with a little stray so I'm biased.
Why would you mention Forza Horizon? I don't see Purexbox mentioning MS isn't capable of creating SP action adventure game for 20 years.. Also, as a matter of fact, Crew 2 has same visual fidelity problems on Series consoles and Purexbox ain't even mentioning that.
@rjejr 40 fps mode is literally the middle ground between 30 and 60, not based on number of frames per second (fps), but by time a single frame is presented to your eye (which is a more important metric in this case). It translates into responsiveness being also exactly in the middle, if that makes sense. So, although it seems like a small step up, it's truly balanced between two other modes.
@Richnj I meant determined as DOA by MS I guess. I'm not sure any publisher/studio should give up on a hyped product in a few weeks and determine that 50% price drop is justified.
@Shigurui but it was literally dead on arrival. Weeks after release it was on sale for 30$, and going onward price was in that range or lower. @Richnj it is proven that significant number of users will hold off on purchase if product was ever listed for lower price, it applies to everything not just gaming.
I don't understand devaluing of Deathloop. It's MS owned studio with a product stuck on competing system now, sure, but Nintendo would never do this to their IP whatever the exclusive platform might be.
Wtf happens in one's head, for it to go from a game release date to a p*nis pic?? Is it because word date was in the air and they instantly got aroused?
Anyway, it's sad that it ever happened. Little bit of mutual respect between fans and developers should be a given.
@Carl-G TLOU2 got some hate for no apparent reason to me. It's a phenomenon worth exploring from psychiatric standpoint.
@munstre maybe, but I like to think Horizon just has legs. Game was awesome and they put the time in to fix visual issues. It deserves to pull in good numbers.
Feeling entitled - The entitlement mentality is defined as a sense of deservingness or being owed a favor when little or nothing has been done to deserve special treatment. It's the “you owe me” attitude. Entitlement is a narcissistic personality trait. It's not known exactly how this mentality develops.
@Intr1n5ic Children of Morta is such an excellent game. Very underated. Takes a minute to get used to artwork, but it just "becomes" beautiful afterwards. Gameplay is gold.
@Dezzy70 not to sound like a hater, but I feel like Sony has enough AAA exclusives that they all don't have to be aimed at perfect strategical window. That only applies when you make 2 games a year..
@awp69 exactly, they basically took away a lot of 3rd party games, because it would just be a rehash now. If I was a more sinister person, I would imply it was on purpose.. but I'm not
Yeah, this one really delivered. Zero filler time, just non stop interesting content. It's gonna set the bar high for rest of the summer fest showcases in a "who would want to follow that" kind of way (looking at you MS and Bethesda)
Selling near 1 million copies of a 3-4 years old port is a great number. Definitely outweights the porting investment. And I feel that is what Sony is aiming for, keep the exclusivity on their platform but provide alternative playing avenues (and slow and steady cash flow from older IP) when hype dies down.
Although one wouldn't assume that going by this particular website (odd, since it's console specific site), Sony PlayStation is in a good place, leading the race, and having a lot of steam in their machine (IPs, teams and studios) for a bright future.
I do believe some of casual doom bringing is just due to human nature, and wanting a change, even if it is a forced one..
Maybe I'm way off and can't be realistic anymore, but longer I look at this, more solid it feels. And there are big news outlets out there calling PS Plus rebrand a failure. It is as if they had an article written beforehand and are trying to make it fit the narrative now.. I guess I've just lost touch with reality :/
Seems like although people here wanted PS Plus rebrand to be bad, Sony managed to make it interesting. It is genuinely a better offering than GP currently (might change once they release a few exclusive games).
Feels like they should have done this BEFORE they launch the new subscription service next week (Asia market). I'll always make time to look at some AAA gameplay trailers, but still.. don't they want my subscription money too?
In all honesty, this game did not fail due to being day 1 GP release, it failed because it was bad. GP just didn't save it (which is probably going to be the case for most games with highest budget, but low enough quality not to merit additional player investments).
@IonMagi don't wanna be a **** about it, but you do know VRR is STILL broken on Halo Infinite... So it doesn't really just work on every game on Xbox either 😝
@Bleachedsmiles historically I would agree, but today we live in a world where it is VERY EASY to check if a game is performing differently across platforms. While at the time information was harder to come across, these days it's a search away. Some of the most popular content out there is dealing with exactly that subject. As another interesting (third party) occurrence, for the first 15 days Elden Ring held the highest MC score on Xbox Series consoles, where it objectively performed the worst. I'm using third party content as example because it's impossible to compare first party exclusive on other platforms. Don't get me wrong, I own all 4 popular platforms. But there is a consistent behaviour, me loving my PS exclusives, me loving my Nintendo exclusives (!!!), and me trying my MS exclusives.
@Bleachedsmiles because media scores have been biased lately. As an example, Weird West, reviewed today, has scored 7/10 on PS5 and 9/10 on Xbox. Although it is the same game. And this pattern has been going on for a while (can't find an example of other way around though). I understand reviews are subjective and individual opinions of a reviewer, but if there is a consistent correlation, that indicates a pattern..
@Bleachedsmiles again, I'm not saying Sony cares about quality, they care about money just as others. I just hope they stick with model of quality over quantity. Think of it as Netflix vs HBO Max, later might have less offerings and is even less popular, but their best recent action movie release is Batman 2022, while Netflixes is Adam project (day 1 ofc). While there is a single subscription service, admittedly there is no hard evidence quality is suffering due to that, not just general incompetence. In new markets, it's all about projections and properly assuming a starting model. And my guess, and of people of similar opinion, is that it's due to GP specific model. I would leave critics out of this, because cross-platform games, although identical in the eye of developers, are scored measurably higher on Xbox.
@Bleachedsmiles I believe you mixed few things up.. every business is about making money, and that should live as a separate statement. There are different strategies to making money. Not every vendor on the market should use the same model, because that would effectively narrow the choice for the consumer. Now, for the PS4 cross-platform. One of the ways to make investment into a polished 5 year production cycle game profitable, is by making it more accessible. In a world where current gen consoles availability is as limited as it is, making a cross-platform game is an easy way to make it accessible and automatically increase it's market to a profitable level. I sure like that approach more, compared to keeping market smaller and releasing "great" PSVR level exclusives for PS5 (using PSVR just as an example of expected smaller install base and production values that come with those expectations). MTX endeavor Sony is tampering with lately is an insult to any sane person, and I can only hope they feel it financially. Budget and development years don't necessarily have to be connected to the end product quality. Halo might be the most expensive game they ever did, but development on it was also restarted like 3 times.. My fear with subscription services is that what is changing is the definition of "complete". Games are being pushed out when they are lacking content and polish they should have, on a pretense nobody will bother with them for long enough for it to matter. So it's not so much about development process and work, as much as it is about the outcome (mediocre) that is deemed final/releaseable.
P.S. There is an argument to be made in current world that game is not final when it releases, but as a collector and old school gamer I like to have my games in a playable state on a physical medium.
I agree with reasoning here. As a GP subscriber I can see the quality plummet and in general number of high level exclusive content whining down. It has actually started to get media biased (titles announced as a "big deal" are being reviewed and graded as AAA titles, when they are in fact on a indie production value level), to make a gap between GP and PS exclusives seem smaller. I, for one, don't want that to happen. Games I'm really interested in I purchase as a collector, and ones I don't I can wait for a year (or so) to try out on a service or through a bargain bin.
@themightyant Halo is still not finished and is broken on PC, it's day one platform (FPS games I usually play on PC if reasonable). FS has always scored great and sold in tens of copies (it's great at what it does, just not a lot of market for it). FH5 is the only title that kept quality through transition, but it was "more of the same" compared to FH4.
Sounds good, unfortunately, I already own most of the heavy hitters that will be added to Extra tier.. I'll still probably go for it, once my suddenly attractive PS Now subscription runs out.
I would agree with this conclusion. It is not perfect, but is amongst the most comfortable and definitely most immersive of all time. In total, that gives it an edge in my book.

Played through Immortals: Fenyx Rising. Everybody should try it out, probably my best Ubisoft game in the last 5 years

Stray & FFVII for me.. but it looks to be a decent list.
