Huge difference as I've studied a few of these higher Res comparison images. I think trading in my PS5 and getting 350 off the PRO is going to be my course of action
@thefourfoldroot1 yeh exactly. Metacritic user scores in particular are an absolute joke as they allow any sad individual that has never played or watched something leave a 1 or 0/10 because of an ideology (Xbot, bigot etc). The problem here is mass review bombing by sad Xbox fans wasn't a thing really until the last 5-6 years so a lot of the older entries escaped that nonsense.
Only way to solve this scourge is to only allow purchase verified reviews
@mcdreamer I keep seeing you criticise what may turn out to be the best combat in any JRPG. You just repeating the same 1 button combo when there is so much depth in types of attack, magic and not to mention aerial combat and movement is on you. I think the combat seems so good that I won't ever be able to go back to the serviceable combat in older FF titles.
EDIT: I mean the more I think about it the graver the injustice of your comment 'just end up doing the same 3 button combo' for lord's sake man watch this video: 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pStFbNH22S4'. It's almost like you saying 'SF6 combat is not great I just get through arcade mode using punch, punch, kick.
Do you realise who the battle director in this game is? DMC has some of the greatest combat mechanics of any game out there full stop. Suzuki is a master and shouldn't have to suffer ignorant criticisms like that.
The combat looks absolutely sublime. The last thing you'd expect from Final Fantasy. The depth is there if you want to master it, from what I have played, which is just the tip of the iceberg.
@WallyWest Japanese Devs have been putting Western studios to shame the past 12 months, who outside of PS Studios have been largely floundering with mediocre games released in a technical mess.
FROM, Capcom and soon SquareEnix with FF16 are delivering critical hit after hit (also Ninty obviously).
@Joker1234 what hyperbolic nonsense. So it's gone from disappointing to 'worst ever' now? Ha ha.
Sure it was disappointing if you only play AAAA story-led games, and too much on show was not PS5 exclusive, but the variety and number of exciting looking games shown was great. SM2 showcase was incredible. If they showed 3-4 AAAA story-led games they'd get hammered for having too many of the same types of games, a criticism levelled at them for over a generation. Now they've branched out to mp and other genres of games, I find it refreshing as long as they keep the core of AAAA SP blockbusters there.
So it wasn't my favourite but far from being bad let alone the nonsense you spewed.
Yes I was already excited about the game, first time since FF10 really and the showcase was a stunner (blew their load a bit too much seems like they showed most of the game!)
@Americansamurai1 true but PS4/XB1 sales of games these days are dwarfed by just PS5 for example, and the Switch version comes in July and will be heavily gimped to run on it's old hardware so might not be the same critical success. So I don't expect a large percentage of sales to come from these old consoles. PS5/PC will probably account for around 70% of sales, the rest Xbox series and old gen.
@Bez87 yes we're living in the dark ages here. This is why the 8K TV market has collapsed. There's barely any 4K content in the grand scheme of things it's pitiful, let alone 8K.
@colonelkilgore it's going to be one of the biggest series in a long while. The interest on the trailers is insane. The 97% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and slew of 5/5 ratings has added fuel to the hype.
This alone is worth the price of my PS5 almost, it's that good. It has been a sublime 2022 for the system. Looking ahead to Final Fantasy later this year, looks like it could be best one since FF10/X
I fully expect them to win every NPD Vs both Xbox consoles combined going forward until the PS6, bar an anomaly here or there. The line-up of exclusives has reached that critical mass now. Even with a price increase, they still can't sate worldwide demand. Could have been on 35-40m sales already.
@jgrangervikings1 I said before release that Souls-like games have a ceiling in terms of popularity/sales. Looks like we are seeing that. They are clearly not mainstream games.
@munstre he he same. I don't drive and I'm not a car enthusiast but used to be hooked on GT2 and especially 3, tried 4 then fell off. But this brought back all those childhood memories and looks beyond what I expected. Something about the quirkiness and razor sharp presentation mixed together has drawn me in again.
@ThomasCasson COD is not 'now in the hands of Xbox' is it, the deal may not go through at all and if it does, conservative estimates put COD under the ownership of Xbox in 2023...so I think you kids need to calm down.
Article is premature and fanciful as you'd expect to draw clicks but I'd just like to point out PS is not losing COD 'soon', this deal will take until 2023 to pass muster and it may be blocked as that is a long way away really.
My own view is BIG TECH (Apple, Amazon, Meta, MS, Google) should have been broken up and tackled years ago. There is growing appetite for it as the 1st world economies citizens gets poorer in real terms each year aside from the 1% who continually get richer and people are starting to wake up to the fact that society is unbalanced in socio-economic terms.
The quirk about MS is even thought they are part of the perfidious BIG TECH cartel, they've flown under the radar despite in some valuations being richer than any company on the planet, even Apple...so now the focus and spotlight will be turned on them as it should have been years ago.
How on earth can you complain that what was shown was 'underwhelming' when the comparison points over the last couple of years (e3, Nintendo first direct's, Xbox conferences in particular) have been absolutely woeful. It's like the editors of this website have been insulated since the start for what to realistically expect from conferences.
I must say in general I am a little concerned with the direction of this website in general - this is another article that feeds into a totally unjustified skepticism and concern over the brand, as if the people that write on it and run it don't even want to be a part of the PS community. Instead, we see too much regurgitating of the gas lighting and fake concerns about the PS5 that are seeded from bad faith actors or out and out Microsoft shills with their constant FUD campaigns.
Frickkin' KotOR, Insomniac Wolverine, 6 minutes of God of War Ragnarok, GT7, Forspoken and some other gems - there's no way that was anything other than an awesome show! Can't wait for 2022.
@Jarobusa Funny but in terms of first party software it has been an absolute drought on Switch, whilst I've been enjoying Returnal and Ratchet in the last few months alone.
Well deserved. By the end of the year it'll be close to double the install base of Series X and S combined I reckon (Xbox at only 6m right now iirc). Who knew that releasing exclusives and PS5-only games helps your console sell!
@Kirbyboy92 Demon's Souls, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: RA, and hidden gem Astro's Playroom, which is the best pack-in game I've ever experienced and something I'd pay full price for.
Returnal by far is my fave. When else does a platform holder invest AAA budget or at least focus on a hardcore 'roguelike' title like this? For that reason alone all my fellow Sony boys should laud it
@Kirbyboy92 what are you on about, the PS5 has had the best first 5-7 months of any Sony console since the PS1... do you ask 'what's there to play on it'? sincerely? Have you forgotten how absolutely aweful in comparison the PS4 was for the first 6 months, even first 2 years?
The sales split between PS5 and both Xbox Series consoles combined for multiplat releases is going to end up like 80-20 soon. That's total domination in Xbox's second strongest market.
This way they fund the game and then own the I.P exclusively, without having to pay running costs of the studio.
Conversely MS are buying studios outright but they havent had a noteworthy console exclusive since launch, which is shocking. And their two marquee titles - Halo and Starfield - look pretty damn mediocre.
@Arugula what, the first year of PS4 was quite awful, and even first 2-3 years were mediocre. PS5 has better exclusives after 7 months than PS4 did in 2 years, easily.
@ATaco lied about what exactly? Point me to the definitive statement where Sony or anyone at the company said 'all exclusives in 2022 will be PS5 exclusive'? Otherwise this 'they lied' thing is pure nonsense.

@Dr-M SF6 is a lot better than this I think. That scored 9 and 10s and is labelled the best fighter for a long while. This is getting 7 and 8s.
