@4kgk2 Do you know what a Monopoly is? That’s what you get when one company dominates an entire industry. Not to mention the lack of competition leads to stagnation in output.
I’ll never understand Capcom. They took Resident Evil 4, a game that was already perfect the way it was and made it better, but Resident Evil 3, a game which could have used a remake to improve on certain elements, that one they screw up.
Yeah, one of the issues of adapting an already cinematic game like The Last of Us is that the story has already been perfectly told in the best way possible. Why would I watch an inferior version of the story when it offers nothing I couldn’t have gotten from the game. I said it before and I’ll say it again, this show had no reason to exist.
@themightyant I don’t think it can. These changes might help it gain new fans, but it’ll also alienate a lot of the old ones. And as I said it’s largely been playing catch-up to other popular RPG’s and Japanese action games. You can’t become pack leader if you’re playing catch-up.
@themightyant Final Fantasy stopped being the driving force behind RPG’s years ago. It’s honestly just playing catch-up to other RPG’s Amat this point. I would argue that Persona has had a larger impact on the JRPG scene than Final Fantasy has in the last 10 years or so.
@Trousersnake I suppose time will tell. The real test isn’t the technology though it’s how consumers react to it. The NES could also be considered gaming in its infancy and that was a huge success back in the 80’s.
VR is impressive tech but I think a lot of consumers still view it as a gimmick and most headset’s are so out of most peoples price range that they can’t give it a shot.
I’ve seen so many VR headsets released in the past 10 years and I have to ask, is this ever going to catch on? I’ve heard people say this is the next evolution of gaming yet it’s never really become mainstream. Will it ever, or is it forever doomed to be a niche interest for dedicated hobbyists?
If it copied the game line for line this only strengthens my initial complaint, this has no reason to exist. Why wouldn’t I just play the videogame at that point.
@4kgk2 both consoles are doing good though. I don’t really care about console Wars shenanigans, that was always between the companies and not the players.
It better be. Because so far the “next generation” has felt more like a minor upgrade than a major leap forward. And given what’s coming on the horizon I don’t think that will change anytime soon. Hopefully the second half of the year picks up the slack.
Anyone else when controllers didn’t have so many needless gimmicks attached to them? Rumble Is the only one that seams to have lasted, everything else has either been forgotten or greatly diminished. Just make a comfortable controller that’s fun to use, that’s all we need.
I’m not really surprised by this. When you look back at the series it wasn’t much of a crossover between Final Fantasy and Disney characters to begin with. The final Fantasy characters were always stuck in their own world and outside of Olympus you never saw them in any of the Disney worlds.
They didn’t even handle the Final Fantasy characters that well. All of their backstories were changed and never fully explained. Poor Cloud got it the worst. I don’t know I think leaving the Final Fantasy characters is for the best.

@4kgk2 that doesn’t answer my question. How is one company dominating an entire industry good for the industry?

Re: Sony Claps Back at UK Regulator's 'Irrational' Reversal on Microsoft Activision Deal
This whole farce has made everyone involved look like complete idiots. Don’t get me wrong it was entertaining at first, but now it’s just pathetic.

@STOBO why? That’s horribly unfair to indie developers.
Re: Sony Is Acting Unfairly Against Xbox in Japan, US Congress Members Say
This whole thing is hysterical to me. Imagine thinking the Japanese gaming market matters in the slightest in 2023.
Re: Sonic Origins Plus Catching Heat for Using Zoomed-In Game Gear Versions
The Game Gear games are just a bonus anyway. This isn’t something to get mad over.

Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Targeting Potential 2024 Release
sigh here we go again. Expecting Pro models because everyone forgot why the Pro models from last generation existed to begin with.
Re: The Last of Us' Naughty Dog Already Working on Next PS5 Exclusive
You know they made other things right. You don’t need to put The Last of Us in the headline.

Why? The pacing in the game was bad enough, you want to make it worse.

Re: Naoki Yoshida Is Not a Fan of the Term 'JRPG'
I don’t see how he can think of it as discriminatory. It’s just a descriptive term for RPG’s made in Japan.

I always felt the Olympics should have an E-Sports division. Glad to see that finally happening.
Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About Final Fantasy 16?
And so the dance begins anew. We all get excited for a new Final Fantasy only for it to be disappointing when it actually comes out.
