Re: PS Portal Proving More Popular Than Sony Expected

MikeOrator

@DNortonX

I can connect to any wifi, but the problem is that most public wifi is sketchy. The question should be will it connect?

My problem with the phone or tablet setup is that it's not a dedicated connection. Other things are going on on that device that can cause it to drop the PlayStation connection, then it has to do its 10-minute song and dance to get reconnected again. The portal is instant and then nothing interrupts the connection like a phone call, text or notification.

Re: Random: Our Twitter Timeline Is All Tifa from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PS5 Right Now

MikeOrator

@TwoDents

Ya, this whole "they are ruining my fantasy worlds with politics" crowd just needs to chill out. But on the other hand, so does the extreme other side. We can have sexy and realistic, we just need to know when each is appropriate. Could you imagine The Last of Us with a sexy character design philosophy like they have in Resident Evil? OOHHH Boy that would be weird and inappropriate.

Re: Random: Our Twitter Timeline Is All Tifa from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PS5 Right Now

MikeOrator

Not that anyone cares but here is my 2 cents

1) Japanese games have always had sexy Waifus and Husbandos in their games and they never stopped. So everyone needs to quit thinking this is an ultra-attractive character design renaissance in the industry because it's not.

2) Quit acting like realistic character designs somehow make the game less good...because they don't.

3) Unless you want this taken away from you too, quit acting like a bunch of 12-year-olds seeing their first tiddy in their dad's old Playboy. Act like you've scored before, huh.

4) This is the controversial one: Kratos being ripped and shirtless is NOT the same as Tifa in a bikini. Both of these examples are there for the MALE power fantasy. Kratos because he is strong and men want to be like him and Tifa because she is sexy and men want to be with her. Now if you put Cloud or Sephiroth in a bikini that would be something that EVERYONE could enjoy...lol...

Re: Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance on PS5, PS4 Confirmed, Out in June 2024

MikeOrator

I said in another post that I was a Final Fantasy fanboi and the Shin Megami Tensei titles for me went largely ignored. I played Persona 5 a few years ago, started P5 Royal just before Infinite Wealth came out and have P3 Reload in the queue next and will finish 5 after I finish 3. I also have P4 Golden on order from Limited Run that I will play when I get it. There is also Metaphor: Refantazio coming out in the fall which looks fantastic and is created by all the Persona luminaries. My question to everyone is this. Do I need to make room in my life for another 100+ hour JRPG when this comes out?

Re: Google Engineers Hack PS Portal to Run Emulated PSP Games

MikeOrator

@PSme

I think the only people who want a digital future are those who manufacture and distribute physical media.

This, of course, is a generalized statement and not truth. There are a lot of benefits to digital that make sense in today's world, however, we have had digital books for decades and people still buy physical books and nobody is forcing a digital-only future on readers.

Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Will Have an Uncapped Frame Rate on PS5

MikeOrator

@wildcat_kickz

All good points about this for sure. There was a time when we had games that did not even run a 30 fps (not that we paid all that much attention to it at the time) and as tech and time moved forward games started to run smoother. I don't think it's unreasonable to start expecting the industry to get to a stable 60fps frame rate at the very least.

Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Will Have an Uncapped Frame Rate on PS5

MikeOrator

@wildcat_kickz

Ever since Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain came out in 2015 with buttery smooth 60fps on PS4 I have been wondering why it cannot be done more consistently on more games. Now here we are in 2024 and game developers still cannot get this right. Sure, you can play games at 30fps just fine, but that does not mean that we should continue to accept 30fps as the standard. It's not any more pretentious to want a better frame rate than it is to want 4k, ray tracing, or better AI in enemies. I have learned that its not easy but I dare say its not impossible.

Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Will Have an Uncapped Frame Rate on PS5

MikeOrator

@ShogunRok @Olmaz

Thanks, Guys, I knew there had to be some other factors I was not considering. I just assumed it was easier for all developers to optimize games for the PS5. However, even with this new information, I find it hard to believe this decision was not made because of an inability to optimize but just a desire to get the game out to sell.

It's unfortunate too as this is a franchise that seems to have a lot of fans and if this game comes out with frame pacing issues it won't bode well for its success.

Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Will Have an Uncapped Frame Rate on PS5

MikeOrator

I am probably being dumb and I hope somebody explains this to me in the comments but....

If a game developer can make a game that is scalable for thousands of PC setups, why is it so difficult for developers to make a game that scales the graphics to accommodate two frame rate choices on a single setup system like the PS5

30FPS gets you the BEST resolution and graphics.
60FPS gets you a lower resolution and some missing graphical enhancements

What am I missing?

Re: Interview: Shift Up on PS5's Highly Promising Stellar Blade

MikeOrator

@Shushibda

As I said in my earlier post above, that particular poster is an example of the wrong people defending idealistically attractive female character models in video games.

I liken it to NAMBLA wanting to be part of the LGBTQ because it is a preference, not a deviance

EDIT: If you don't know what NAMBLA is don't look it up unless you want to get angry

Re: Interview: Shift Up on PS5's Highly Promising Stellar Blade

MikeOrator

I wish there wasn't so much attention being drawn to the body type or the attractiveness of the characters in this game. Not only will the crazies come out to either defend or criticize the decisions of the game designer, but it makes everyone look woefully unaware that games made in Japan, China or Korea always have had this aesthetic. Has no one seen the absolute Waifus in Like a Dragon or Grand Blue just to name a couple of recent games? Bayonetta, Genshin, Street Fighter. I mean, attractive females in video games are not new in games from these countries.

European and North American-made games are going after more realism and with that more realistic character models.

Neither of these choices in art direction is better than the other, but to make a great big deal about it is just attracting the wrong people to both sides of the conversation.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Watching the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth State of Play?

MikeOrator

@danzoEX

Like a Dragon and Persona 3

As a long-time PS fan who was there when FF7 came out all those years ago and has seen the oversaturation of that game to the point that I can truly say that I don't care about Final Fantasy any longer. I skipped the Persona stuff during its initial heyday so that is truly new and exciting to me.

Re: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Named Series' Fastest-Selling Game, Already at One Million Units

MikeOrator

@pyrrhic_victory

Long story short, Yes, but here is the long story anyway...lol...

LaD Gaiden - The Man Who Erased His Name is a supplemental story and Gaiden literally translates to "side story". It's about long-time series protagonist and fan favorite Kazuma Kiryu and what he was up to after the events of Yakuza 6 and during the events of Yakuza: Like a Dragon and leading him towards the events of the current game.

Gaiden was smaller scale because it was to be a side story in Infinite Wealth but the story was so good and took on so much of its own life that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios decided to create a whole game out of it and release it just before Infinite Wealth.

Gaiden is also made using the Beat Em Up brawler-style fighting system like most of the other Yakuza games.

It's also very good but unless you are at least familiar with the lore of the series Gaiden will not have the same impact as it would on a more invested fan.

If I am missing anything please, everyone let me know.

Re: State of Play Announced, Covering More Than 15 PS5, PSVR2 Games

MikeOrator

@Cikajovazmaj

It's not just this site. There are many spoiled rage-baiting Playstation commenters on YouTube, Twitter, and the Playstation blog who are falling all over each other just to one-up with the hate. However, I liken it to sports fans who are always yelling at the TV when their favorite team does dumb stuff. Armchair CEOs just having a bit of extremely angry fun...lol...and trolls...there are always trolls.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Tekken 8?

MikeOrator

I can still appreciate the skill needed to be good as a player and the insane amount of work the developer does to ensure the game is balanced, but fighting games are not my jam

Re: PS Plus Extra Loses Another 10 PS4 Games Next Month

MikeOrator

Another PS+ post comment section where everyone either thinks that these digital games are a way to archive a permanent library, S**t talks Ubisoft, brags that they are WAY cooler game enjoyers because they have played 30 indie side scrollers that are all the same, or declares their intention to let their sub run out for real this time guys.

Re: Square Enix Confirms AI Art Use in PS5, PS4 Exclusive Foamstars

MikeOrator

Sure glad those people who are crying about this being taken over by robots feel good lining up at the self-checkout at Walmart or getting their drone delivery from Amazon.

It's not like the CEO is sitting at their desk messing around with Bing Image Creator. The creative people are using it to expand their toolbox and make mundane tasks easier

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man's Mary-Jane Face Model Calls for an End to Unacceptable Behaviour

MikeOrator

Being an ally does not equal virtue signaling. To claim so is misogynistic

Harassment of women is way worse than the harassment of men. To claim it not is to be misogynistic.

Men with muscles is a male power fantasy but over-sexualized women is not a female power fantasy. To say otherwise is misogynistic.

The harassment of women and girls is very real and if it's argued that it's just as bad for men and boys, that is misogyny.

Re: PlayStation's Head of Third Party Deals and Acquisitions Gives Insight into How It All Works

MikeOrator

Almost like third-party acquisitions are a stop-gap to round out the delayed first-party content. I would surmise that Sony may still be behind in exclusive content development because of the year that wasn't. Like all those first-party exclusives that went to PC during the hardware shortage, or releasing all these first parties on PS4 for longer than normal. It almost looks like what they have been doing since 2020 has been to ensure the health of the PlayStation brand for many years in the future.

Re: Preview: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Is the First PS5 Must-Play of 2024

MikeOrator

@Cherip-the-Ripper

Thank you for the response. I would like to mention that I didn't come to the defense of turn-based combat because of Like a Dragon. I have played both types and I would say that the traditional Beat 'em Up style is still my favorite combat in the franchise. I just didn't agree with your claim that turn-based combat was a relic of the past. Anyway, no hard feelings, and happy gaming.

Re: Preview: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Is the First PS5 Must-Play of 2024

MikeOrator

@Cherip-the-Ripper

Turn based should just stay as a thing of the past. Relic of an old age.

Turn-based is not a thing of the past. It is widely used in a lot of modern RPGs and JRPGs. Persona, Dragon Quest, Octopath Traveler, not to mention a little game that won GOTY in 2023, Baldur's Gate 3. Maybe it's not your style of play and that is fine, and I can absolutely understand where the tedium might come from. But when turn-based is done correctly the strategy involved in managing an entire party, especially in a boss battle, can be quite exhilarating

Re: 30 PS5, PS4 Indie Games to Watch Out for in 2024

MikeOrator

As much as I respect what these indie developers are doing I probably will not get to any of these games unless they come to PS+ and then I will try them but not stick to any of them long enough to finish. I know I should be supporting these smaller companies as this is the future of games for the most part. I also realize that there are probably 10 games on this list with more interesting and varied gameplay than the last 10 AAA games I have played. There just is never anything that hooks my ADHD like a good Collect-a-Thon open world from Ubisoft, Rockstar, or the various PlayStation Studios.
