Do you mean the word "Woke" that they stole from the African Americans that means for racialized people to stay vigilant against the oppression of the ultra-right and white/Christian nationalists and now they use it as an insult for people who want the world to be more inclusive and kinder to others? Is that the "woke" you are talking about?
I took time off from work to play this game on the proper release day. It's a slap in the face to home renovation game enjoyers and I am cancelling my preorder. Do better "random developer of various property flip-style games for some reason"...do better.
I have to say, glasses and covered-up sounds just as smexy as a skin-tight peek-a-boo inner thigh outfit. There are no rules for what turns you on @ChrisDeku.
What's curious? People complain when smaller voices "shoehorn" their stories into existing media and that they should create their own stories. Well, here they are, their own stories, yet somehow it's curious...
The first one was on PS+ Extra at one point I think. I was going to play it then but never got the time. I heard the game was like if Bioware made an Assassin's Creed game and removed all the grinding. I never played the game, it's just what I heard.
Maybe Mudrunners is an 8/10 off-road AA vehicle puzzle game and FFVII is a 8/10 AAA JRPG
It's like comparing an 8/10 orange and an 8/10 donut. They are both good but are different things. But donuts are more popular and more people look forward to them so they should get a higher score based on just that.
FFVII should not get a higher score based on being a Final Fantasy game.
By the way, didn't the other 2 JRPGs (LAD: Infinite Wealth and Persona 3R) that came out this year both score a 9 on this site? Do we think those reviews should have been less or more based on the FFVII review?
Listen, I'm not here to argue semantics and find ultra-specific ways that things won't work. I am also talking about Sony and not Nintendo.
However, here are my crazy thoughts: No longer call them Switch 1 or Switch 2 games but just Nintendo Switch games without the generational distinction. The same game can go in either system, and depending on the system you have, unlock more advanced features like frame rates, ray tracing, or lighting modes. Think Apple and how iOS works. Eventually, the legacy console would age out of being compatible with new games and force you to upgrade if you want to keep playing.
Manufacturing, development, shipping, and marketing would now be one cost over multiple generations. Not to mention how much stronger the install base would be for every game. And as long as you are cool with fewer graphical features you aren't forced to upgrade until necessary. Also, people on the cutting edge can still get the new system and be all elite about themselves.
I am not an expert, but it seems the current model is not working as well as it did in the past and something has to change or we are going to see a great big crash like we did in the 80's.
<strike>Why does the PlayStation storefront suck so bad? Is it that hard to emulate the console storefront on the internet? No pics, no videos, not able to go to the "game page" and look at all iterations, DLC packs, and editions. Is there a version out there that somebody as modded to make it look good and work well. <strike>
Never mind my old man rant...lol...i feel much better now.
I understand that, and I was being quite sarcastic about your comment. However, I think we need to get over the generational dividing line that has defined previous transitions. This is the new normal if we want gaming to stay fairly affordable for enjoyers.
I got mine so I can crawl out of my dungeon game room and spend time in the living room with my wife while she plays her (perfectly portable) switch on the upstairs TV...lol...
I secretly hope that direct streaming via PS+ will come to it in the future and then at that point, you will never find one.
I can connect to any wifi, but the problem is that most public wifi is sketchy. The question should be will it connect?
My problem with the phone or tablet setup is that it's not a dedicated connection. Other things are going on on that device that can cause it to drop the PlayStation connection, then it has to do its 10-minute song and dance to get reconnected again. The portal is instant and then nothing interrupts the connection like a phone call, text or notification.
That's it exactly, read the room. When a game comes out that is making efforts to be inclusive the developer never even has to say anything about it as the "go woke go broke" crowd does it for them...lol...Politics <insert eye roll>...am I right...
Ya, this whole "they are ruining my fantasy worlds with politics" crowd just needs to chill out. But on the other hand, so does the extreme other side. We can have sexy and realistic, we just need to know when each is appropriate. Could you imagine The Last of Us with a sexy character design philosophy like they have in Resident Evil? OOHHH Boy that would be weird and inappropriate.
lol...I can see how this company would feel threatening to some. Is this where all the "Spiderman 2 has gone woke" rhetoric has come from? I know there was more to it when "fans" were complaining they could see Miles's hair in one costume and that it had "bad character design"
1) Japanese games have always had sexy Waifus and Husbandos in their games and they never stopped. So everyone needs to quit thinking this is an ultra-attractive character design renaissance in the industry because it's not.
2) Quit acting like realistic character designs somehow make the game less good...because they don't.
3) Unless you want this taken away from you too, quit acting like a bunch of 12-year-olds seeing their first tiddy in their dad's old Playboy. Act like you've scored before, huh.
4) This is the controversial one: Kratos being ripped and shirtless is NOT the same as Tifa in a bikini. Both of these examples are there for the MALE power fantasy. Kratos because he is strong and men want to be like him and Tifa because she is sexy and men want to be with her. Now if you put Cloud or Sephiroth in a bikini that would be something that EVERYONE could enjoy...lol...
Right!?! What is the measure of success for these publishers then anyway? It's almost like they are making these games to Kill studios and lay off people.
With the amount of very public and very loud backlash it got I find it hilarious that they are shocked the game did not perform. But I guess even Skull a Bones made the top 10 so...[Shrug] IDK
So like Persona a little bit. Turn base battles, stat progression, i can still assume over 100 hours to see everything, lots of cut scenes, Atlus Game, made in Japan...kinda sounds like a JRPG to me. What do you consider a JRPG?
I said in another post that I was a Final Fantasy fanboi and the Shin Megami Tensei titles for me went largely ignored. I played Persona 5 a few years ago, started P5 Royal just before Infinite Wealth came out and have P3 Reload in the queue next and will finish 5 after I finish 3. I also have P4 Golden on order from Limited Run that I will play when I get it. There is also Metaphor: Refantazio coming out in the fall which looks fantastic and is created by all the Persona luminaries. My question to everyone is this. Do I need to make room in my life for another 100+ hour JRPG when this comes out?
I think the only people who want a digital future are those who manufacture and distribute physical media.
This, of course, is a generalized statement and not truth. There are a lot of benefits to digital that make sense in today's world, however, we have had digital books for decades and people still buy physical books and nobody is forcing a digital-only future on readers.
This game could have got 8's and 9's from the most trusted game reviewers and gamers would still hate it. Everyone's hive mind was made up about this game years ago. Ubisoft could have delivered a perfect product but public perception is that it's crap and it will always be crap.
Skull and Bones is a flop amongst game enthusiasts, like us, but I would guess not amongst people who have access to video games. Just because we think it's a dog doesn't mean the general public thinks the same thing. Somebody bought it as evidenced by this chart (relevant or not).
I agree! The thief was the one with the freshest-looking gameplay. A fast little devious dagger that climbs around on the enemy like it's in Shadow of the Colossus or something.
All good points about this for sure. There was a time when we had games that did not even run a 30 fps (not that we paid all that much attention to it at the time) and as tech and time moved forward games started to run smoother. I don't think it's unreasonable to start expecting the industry to get to a stable 60fps frame rate at the very least.
Ever since Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain came out in 2015 with buttery smooth 60fps on PS4 I have been wondering why it cannot be done more consistently on more games. Now here we are in 2024 and game developers still cannot get this right. Sure, you can play games at 30fps just fine, but that does not mean that we should continue to accept 30fps as the standard. It's not any more pretentious to want a better frame rate than it is to want 4k, ray tracing, or better AI in enemies. I have learned that its not easy but I dare say its not impossible.
Thanks, Guys, I knew there had to be some other factors I was not considering. I just assumed it was easier for all developers to optimize games for the PS5. However, even with this new information, I find it hard to believe this decision was not made because of an inability to optimize but just a desire to get the game out to sell.
It's unfortunate too as this is a franchise that seems to have a lot of fans and if this game comes out with frame pacing issues it won't bode well for its success.
I am probably being dumb and I hope somebody explains this to me in the comments but....
If a game developer can make a game that is scalable for thousands of PC setups, why is it so difficult for developers to make a game that scales the graphics to accommodate two frame rate choices on a single setup system like the PS5

What is Sony worried about? After Microsoft's announcement tomorrow Sony will have won the console war and we will all be playing the next Bethesda game in brilliant Apple Vision Pro. Get out your credit cards kids it's gonna be a bumpy 2024
I feel that they were perceived as average. I have only played 2 of them (Ghostwire: Tokyo and Forspoken) both were really fun games held back, in the public eye, by things that normally would be forgiven in an established IP.
As I said in my earlier post above, that particular poster is an example of the wrong people defending idealistically attractive female character models in video games.
I liken it to NAMBLA wanting to be part of the LGBTQ because it is a preference, not a deviance
EDIT: If you don't know what NAMBLA is don't look it up unless you want to get angry
I wish there wasn't so much attention being drawn to the body type or the attractiveness of the characters in this game. Not only will the crazies come out to either defend or criticize the decisions of the game designer, but it makes everyone look woefully unaware that games made in Japan, China or Korea always have had this aesthetic. Has no one seen the absolute Waifus in Like a Dragon or Grand Blue just to name a couple of recent games? Bayonetta, Genshin, Street Fighter. I mean, attractive females in video games are not new in games from these countries.
European and North American-made games are going after more realism and with that more realistic character models.
Neither of these choices in art direction is better than the other, but to make a great big deal about it is just attracting the wrong people to both sides of the conversation.
I hope this works out as I would really love (even though it's probably not a thing) to have Ghost Wire: Tokyo 2 come to the PlayStation—or Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2
Edit: I may just buy a used Series S for another Ghostwire game
As a long-time PS fan who was there when FF7 came out all those years ago and has seen the oversaturation of that game to the point that I can truly say that I don't care about Final Fantasy any longer. I skipped the Persona stuff during its initial heyday so that is truly new and exciting to me.
Long story short, Yes, but here is the long story anyway...lol...
LaD Gaiden - The Man Who Erased His Name is a supplemental story and Gaiden literally translates to "side story". It's about long-time series protagonist and fan favorite Kazuma Kiryu and what he was up to after the events of Yakuza 6 and during the events of Yakuza: Like a Dragon and leading him towards the events of the current game.
Gaiden was smaller scale because it was to be a side story in Infinite Wealth but the story was so good and took on so much of its own life that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios decided to create a whole game out of it and release it just before Infinite Wealth.
Gaiden is also made using the Beat Em Up brawler-style fighting system like most of the other Yakuza games.
It's also very good but unless you are at least familiar with the lore of the series Gaiden will not have the same impact as it would on a more invested fan.
If I am missing anything please, everyone let me know.
