Re: Poll: Are You Playing Zenless Zone Zero?

MikeOrator

I played it for a bit. Combat is quite fun even though it's button-mashy at first it does feel good when you can link combos and make ultimate moves. The exploration puzzle game is different if very simple, probably for accessibility but also because it's in the early stages of the narrative. Characters have some nice designs and should keep the cosplayers busy trying to piece together. But as for the Gatcha stuff, like all these games the early stages are fairly generous with mats but I know they will start to ramp up needs and therefore purchasing with real money

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate Summer Game Fest and Its Surrounding Shows as a Whole?

MikeOrator

I don't think it is fair to compare SGF to E3. E3 had a carnival-like atmosphere and exclusiveness in the beginning that made it seem almost mythical. It started to decline when every two-bit influencer with a YouTube channel got to go and then worse yet when they decided to open it to the public. I mean at that point... what's the point?

Summer Game Fest is starting from a place that E3 was turning into so gamers already think it sucks but it's become important to the games industry for creating hype and interest for their product.

But hey, that's just one person's opinion.

Re: Preview: New World: Aeternum Gets a Fresh Start on PS5, But Can It Stand Out?

MikeOrator

As far as I can tell from reading the official New World website and a couple of others (digital trends, GameSpot) it does NOT look like the MMO aspect has been stripped from the game. There is a bit of talk about changes in the game to make it easier to "solo" the content and a revamp to classes and combat to make it more palatable to console users.

But nothing actually says NEW MMO FOR CONSOLE either.

@ATaco

I agree.

JRPGs should have an Anime look, Wifus and Husbandos, weird haircuts, only enough sexual innuendo and implied nudity to ensure they can still get a teen rating, and course turn-based combat.

They don't need blood, guts, actual nudity, or souls-bourne gameplay mechanics. Not that there is anything wrong with these games either they are just not JRPGs to me.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws Demos Out of This Galaxy PS5 Gameplay

I hate how easily I am manipulated with some good choice gameplay footage. It's embarrassing how much of a stan I am now for this game after this showcase. I went from "wait and see" to "day one". I am using all my willpower to wait for early impressions from gaming websites and not pre-ordering.

Re: Video: Is Concord Destined to Fail?

I am not sure why people started using the term 'anti-consumer" to describe the money-making schemes that companies use to extract wealth from our pockets. The term Anti-Consumer comes from a movement where people refuse to buy things or consume products on principle.

Quoting a Google search:
"Anti-consumerism is a sociopolitical ideology. It has been defined as "intentionally and meaningfully excluding or cutting goods from one's consumption routine or reusing once-acquired goods with the goal of avoiding consumption""

This sounds to me like we should be the anti-consumer and refuse to purchase or "consume" these products that the game companies offer us.

The best term to use for some of these wealth-extracting practices should just be "Rip Off"

Eg: Making me pay for New Game Plus is a Rip Off and I am going to be an anti-consumer regarding this game.

However, Merriam-Webster does define Anti-Consumer as "not favourable to consumers: improperly favouring the interests of businesses over the interests of consumers" so /shrug/

Anyway, just expressing a small annoyance with the use of a term...
