Re: Soul Hackers 2 Launch Day DLC Detailed, Includes Bonus Story Arc, Costumes & More

@RedRiot193 man, you couldn't be more wrong. Well, except for your first actual sentence which agrees with what I've been saying--once the 1.0 version is done, there's still more that can be worked on. But beyond that, it's such a naive and entitled opinion to think that devs are out to get you and that DLC is just content that's been cut from the game. That's simply not true.

You really don't need to belittle the artists, programmers, writers (actors? Is the DLC voiced?) who worked on this stuff. There absolutely is effort on their part to put all those stuff together. Once again you're just coming across as someone who is anti-DLC, in a well managed project they have an idea of how long things will take to make, that's how they're able to know what they can make and when. Boo hoo that you want all the DLC on day one as part of the base game for free, that's just not how things work, effort goes into making that extra stuff, and it's extra stuff optional to the base game, so you gotta pay for it. It's been that way ever since DLC was called expansion packs.

Next you go into how you also don't understand how program management works. What makes you think there's plenty of other stuff to work on? If there's stuff that's already being worked on by other studios, it's often not effective to simply throw more people at it. You have to factor in the cost of ramping people on the project and whether tasks can actually be parallelized beyond what is currently (and whether that would actually be faster than the current people who already familiar with it). So that leaves something new to work on, but just because they're going to make another game doesn't mean it's immediately in a state that everyone can start working on it. You can't very well start programming battle systems if the design for what it's going to be like is there. So why isn't the next game already designed out? Oh yeah, they were still working on the previous game so haven't gotten to it yet. So that leaves bug fixes and improvements to the game they just finished as the only cost effective placement. What you're actually getting at once again is that you're anti-DLC and you just don't want them to improve games beyond the 1.0 version. You would do well to do some of that basic research into how game development works, as you're showing a lot of arrogance but a complete lack of basic understanding of how it, and software development in general, works, especially at big companies.

I don't have anything against EA. I know you hate them though because they do DLC and you adamantly hate DLC and don't understand that it's not just a push of a button that magically makes all the DLC. I bet EA's DLC keeps a lot of people employed though.

Tl;Dr- DLC is a well established practice that devs plan for. Sorry you hate it and don't like paying for it. So just don't buy them then, you still get a full game.

Re: PS5, PS4's PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for August 2022 Announced

Milktastrophe

@MetalGear_Yoshi is it though? Regions without streaming are extremely cheap, like their top tiers are almost cheaper than our bottom tier. In Korea Extra costs about $57.75 USD for a year and Deluxe is $66.40 USD for a year. An extra $8.65 for like 100 extra downloadable games seems like a pretty decent deal. Or you can think about as an extra $6.40 for Deluxe compared to getting Essential in the US is a steal.

@RedRiot193 ok, so you just don't know how game development works. See, when a game is finished there is some time before it gets released, could be several weeks, could be several months. This is because the game needs to be certified for the platform, discs printed, maybe the publisher just wants to release the game at a certain time, etc.

So either the employees could sit around and do nothing in those weeks between the game being finished and release (because often there is not yet another game to work on) or they could continue to work on something, e.g. bug fixes and updates to the game. This is also why there are day one patches, it's not the devs trying to screw over people with the disc version who play offline, it's that it's quicker to release a patch than a full game. They might not need everyone to work on bug fixes all the time so can get started on planned DLC, so sometimes there's enough time to release that DLC on the same date as the game itself.

This practice keeps the individual devs employed during this down time. Not that complicated.

Re: Sony Expands PlayStation Homepage for PC Games

Milktastrophe

@art_of_the_kill I can't wait for day and date to happen so that everyone who complains there's no reason to own a console can just sell their consoles and buy a PC. Then they can leave Push Square for Push Space Bar (or whatever they end up calling it) and we won't have to deal with their complaining anymore.

Re: GTA 6 Will Set 'Creative Benchmarks' for All Entertainment

Milktastrophe

@Mezzer exactly, games are meant to be fun. I don't think it would be any fun to play a game where the main character is a racist (and the game isn't about them learning the errors of their ways). Thankfully I'm not aware of any games like that. So I don't see why it should be so controversial to be respectful of others. Being a decent human being has nothing to do with politics.

Re: Press X for Trophies Is a Sad Indictment of PS5, PS4 Today

Milktastrophe

@TommyNL except just ignoring them hurts legitimate indie devs too. When you scroll through the games list it can be difficult to tell from just the icons, so you err on the side of it being garbageware or even you just accidentally scroll past the real games because they're completely surrounded by garbage. And so that legit indie dev has lost a potential sale.

Re: Press X for Trophies Is a Sad Indictment of PS5, PS4 Today

@RoomWithaMoose it's problematic because this practice wouldn't be acceptable for real games, so why is it ok for small "devs"? Suppose Uncharted came out. Then next week was Runcharted which is exactly the same game but Drake's in a red shirt. Then next week was Buncharted, now with a blue shirt. Then next week was Puncharted, showing off his pink shirt. These aren't cosmetic DLCs or game updates, by the way, every one would be a separate full price game.

Re: Immediate Backlash as Sony Asks Players About Purchasing NFTs

Milktastrophe

@gamiller1978 the ability to sell digital games and other items can be solved without Blockchain, though (assuming you trust Sony or whichever digital storefront you're using), so digital game licenses don't need to be converted to NFTs.

There doesn't need to be and probably shouldn't be a public ledger revealing every game everybody owns. Considering Sony has specific privacy options in place to hide your game activity/trophies, forcing it to be public that you own Barbie Puppy Rescue kinda undoes all those privacy options.

Also, I'm not sure if there's any Blockchain technology that's improved on this yet, but since every transaction needs to be verified on the public ledger, it's by definition going to be slower than a conventional database. I don't know about you, but I don't want to wait 5 days for my digital game purchase to complete. Not to mention the destruction to the environment due to all the electricity required to maintain the ledger (I honestly don't know if it's as bad for NFTs as conventional cryptocurrencies).

This is just a few reasons why NFTs are bad, with a focus on why they probably don't work for digital games, which admittedly is a lot more compelling than an NFT of a jpg everyone has access to for free. I'm sure there are many more reasons.

Re: Tencent Poised to Take Major Stake in French Publisher Ubisoft

Milktastrophe

@JudgeDredd impossible to say at this point as we don't know how much of the company Tencent is buying. At the very least this should result with them having as much power as the Guillemot's currently have. Technically unless they can secure more than 50% of the shares (maybe more depending on the company's bylaws?), they can't just overrule other shareholders, but if enough shareholders align with Tencent or simply don't cast votes, then it's most likely gonna be Tencent gets whatever it wants.

Re: Uh Oh! Square Enix Demands Removal of Leaked Tomb Raider Script from Patreon

Milktastrophe

@Fight_Teza_Fight so it depends where it happened--I don't know about Canada's privacy laws. In some places you don't have a right to privacy in public places so people can take your pictures or pictures of your things. In some places that in itself illegal. Either way, many companies warn against or don't allow their employees to work in public places so this sort of thing doesn't happen.

Had the initial photo taker written an article reporting on the photos, that might be fair use (assuming the act of taking the photos in the first place was legal). Simply sharing the photos is likely not fair use (as it's simply the copyrighted work and not fairly used within something larger), however an actual journalist picking up those leaked photos and then reporting on them could be* fair use.

*: It depends how the material is used and could be different on a case by case basis.
