Re: Reaction: Sony's Storefront Closures Put PS5, PS4 Backwards Compatibility Efforts Back in Focus

Paranoimia

I'm sure a lot of people on social media are just making noise for the sake of it, and don't really care at all... they just want some attention for 5 minutes, as is the norm these days.

It's not like they haven't been available for at least 10+ years now, and it seems to me that anyone who genuinely had any interest in the digital versions of these old games would have long since purchased them, and for those who have, they're not going away.

Re: Rumour: Call of Duty Returns to World War II for This Year's Game

Paranoimia

Haven't bought a CoD since the original Modern Warfare on PS3, though I grabbed the MW and MW2 remasters from Plus.

Haven't bought any Battlefield since 4 either.

WW2 has been done to death by these games... CoD, Battlefield, and in the past, Medal of Honor... give it a friggin' rest.

Prefer my FPS set in present or very recent times... that's why I'm looking forward to 6 Days in Fallujah.

Re: PlayStation Emulation Patent Raises Hopes of Retro Support

Paranoimia

@Blacksmith1985 Agreed. I remember downloading some PS1 games for my PSP and they even looked awful on that.

Personally, I'd much rather Sony focus all their attention on putting something new and worthwhile on the new hardware, than waste time, effort, and money on looking backwards.

Re: Sony Must Communicate Its Plans for PS3, PS Vita, and PSP

Paranoimia

"Sony Must Communicate Its Plans for PS3, PS Vita, and PSP"

And if the original article is to be believed, they will... at the end of the month. The previous PushSquare article says so.

"Sony will confirm the news at the end of this month, with the information coming from a source "familiar with the situation", according to the website in question."

So this article seems... a little pointless. 🤔

Re: Soapbox: PS5 Has Turned Me Into a Total 60FPS Snob

Paranoimia

It is, and shall remain, completely irrelevant to me. As long as it's smooth, consistent, and predictable, I'm quite happy with 30fps. It makes no difference at all to my enjoyment of a game - and that's from someone with both a gaming PC and a gaming-capable laptop.

Re: PS3, PS Vita, and PSP Online Stores to Close This Summer, Says New Report

Paranoimia

Don't really care... haven't bought anything on either for at least 7 years, and had very little digitally anyway.

As much as people here are complaining, Sony wouldn't be shutting it down if it was seeing a reasonable amount of traffic and generating any significant sales; it's a case of "use it or lose it", and clearly not enough people were using it. It's probably reached the point where it's costing them more cash to keep it functioning than it generates, so... away it goes.

You won't lose access to what you've already bought, that's pretty much guaranteed; you just won't be able to buy anything new.

Either way, given the examples of OnLive, Ouya, and (quite possibly, soon) Stadia, the lesson from this for everyone should be: if you want to be absolutely certain that your games are yours to keep forever, buy physical media - it's the only way to be sure. As unlikely as it may be, any of these companies could disappear tomorrow, and take your entire collection with them.

Re: Poll: Which Bethesda Franchise Will PS5 Miss the Most?

Paranoimia

As far as I'm concerned, none of them.

I played Fallout 3 on PS3 and enjoyed it, even though it was a bit of a half-assed mess. I picked up New Vegas when I owned a 360 for a while, but found it so similar to 3 that I really couldn't be bothered and didn't play more than a few hours.

I had the original Dishonored on PS3 and that was okay (still got it, actually), but I never bothered with the second game.

Doom... I enjoyed the original way back on PC and on PS1, but I can't say I'm a huge fan of the series. I got whatever version it was that they released on the original Xbox, but never completed it.

Never had any interest in the other games they make, as I'm not that big of an RPG fan. And to be fair, a lot of their recent output has been so laughably bug-ridden that my own personal nickname for them is Bugtester Notworks.

So this their acquisition by MS makes very little difference to me personally. In the not-impossible-but-highly-unlikely event they produce anything I want in the future, I have a PC... which from what I've read in the past is arguably the best place to lay their games anyway.

Re: Denuvo Anti-Cheat Technology Available to PS5 Developers

Paranoimia

"creating a tremendous risk [to the] monetisation of games"

So it's not really the cheating that they're concerned about.

And the software can apparently have a large impact on the software which uses it. Some devs on PC use it only to bolster sales in the first few months, and patch it out later.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 366

Paranoimia

Been hooked on DayZ with a couple of mates since Christmas.

It's a terrible game, but it's a brilliant game. We rented our own server a couple of weeks ago, and it's taken on a whole new life now that we can make some progress without getting killed by some random every few hours. We did fear that removing that element may make it less of a challenge, but it hasn't really... we've each died several times, but are having some real fun exploring and learning the different elements the game offers... stuff we never survived long enough to try on public servers.

It's real rough diamond... great fun, but could still be improved in so many ways.

Re: PS Store Discontinues Movie, TV Rentals and Purchases in August

Paranoimia

Well, I guess they won't be taking up my idea of adding a couple of free movie rentals to PS Plus for those who don't want the games!

I think I used this service something like 3 times on PS3 - only rentals which were dirt cheap, I never bought anything... and I'v never used it at all on PS4.

Given a choice, I still don't buy digital for this exact reason - okay, you can still access stuff you've bought after it shuts down, but how long will that go on for? At least with a disc, I don't need to rely on them keeping the service running, or on having an internet connection.

I do have digital movies, but only those which came via UltraViolet and a code included with a disc. When UltraViolet shut down, at least they gave you codes to get your movies on Google Play.

Re: Tom Holland Doesn't Sound Particularly Happy with His Portrayal of Uncharted's Nathan Drake

Paranoimia

I still think this would have been better if they'd gone with the voice actors from the game playing their respective roles. Voices and mannerisms would be spot-on, and with a bit of makeup, they could look the part too.

Of course, Hollyweird being what it is, they were always bound to insist on A-listers, and change beloved characters for "artistic reasons".

I've said this in previous comments, but as a fan of the games, I'd have preferred them to stay more true to the source and make a rollicking good B-movie with the game's "unknown" cast (not being cruel, just speaking in relative terms) and fun approach, rather than go for the big names and what seems to be a more gritty and serious setup.

I'm not saying it won't be an enjoyable movie, but I have a feeling it's going to be quite a wrench for fans of the games.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Games for March 2021?

Paranoimia

Not interested in any of them, personally.

I've been playing online more recently with the lockdown, and with a couple of mates I've been bouncing between BF4, Division 1 & 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Breakpoint, and more recently DayZ.

With that in mind, I might pick up Remnant if the other guys are interested as it's 3-player co-op... otherwise, there's nothing there for me.

Re: Soapbox: The Real Problem with Sony's State of Play Livestreams

Paranoimia

I think there's one very simple, very glaring problem with all the State of Play's at the moment... and that is that they just don't have anything of significant weight to show.

We're in a bit of an odd situation - well, at least I personally feel we are - which is kind of like "the eye of the storm". We had a great 'end' to the PS4 generation (I put end in quotes because it's clearly got a lot of life in it), but that came about because - whether by coincidence or by design - all of the major PlayStation studios finished their projects at around the same time, that being in the last couple of years.

Now we're in a lull, where the new console is largely relying on indies and some very average third party titles to tide us over until the next wave of first-party gems, most of which are probably still at least a year away, if not longer.

I cancelled my PS5 pre-order just prior to release, partly because I was told I wouldn't get one for release day, but also partly because there just wasn't anything for it that I felt I absolutely had to play. Now we're three months on, and that's still the case... there's nothing I feel I need to buy a PS5 for. I didn't bother watching this State of Play (the first one I've intentionally not watched), and reading about it after the event, I don't feel as if I missed anything. That's a feeling I've not had with any previous Sony system.

Sure, I could buy the console (if I could find one) to play my PS4 games on, but for me that's just not worth it, no matter how it may improve them. I don't buy new systems to play old games, and my Pro will play them just fine for now.

I didn't bother getting a Pro until Horizon Zero Dawn was released, and it's currently looking like Horizon 2 will be the catalyst for me buying a PS5... whenever that may be. Unless something else is released sooner which I find equally compelling.

So yes... a kind of 'eye of the storm' situation... we had a blast, now we're just sitting around, patiently waiting for the next one.

Re: Reaction: Japan Studio's Disbandment Is Disappointing, But Not Surprising

Paranoimia

Can't say it really bothers me one way or the other, as apart from Everybody's Golf, I've never bought anything they've put out. Never really been into the often bizarre Japanese-style games.

That said, if a Japanese division can't make games the Japanese gamers seem to want to buy, and hasn't in almost 10 years, they basically made the decision easy for Sony.

Yes, of course I feel for those who may lose their jobs if they're not integrated elsewhere, but from a purely business point of view, it makes perfect sense.

Re: Sony Confirms Next Generation PlayStation VR Is in the Works for PS5

Paranoimia

@GKO900 I'm with you. Last I checked, less than 5% of PS4 owners had bothered with PSVR, and it had sold less then Vita over a comparable period... yet they dumped Vita and persist with this.

I've tried PSVR, and I enjoyed my time with it, but I wouldn't buy one... I don't want to play games for hours with something hanging off my face, and while it's immersive with suitable games, I also feel it's restrictive in the type of gameplay it allows; it's ideal for a handful of genres, and just a gimmick for others.

Re: Days Gone Is Coming to PC

Paranoimia

On the one hand, I'm fine with it, as (a) more people get to play some awesome games, and (b) it means more money to the Sony devs for even more great games.

On the other hand, it makes me a little concerned for the future of PlayStation systems, and I think they need to be careful about the delay between a PlayStation release and PC release.

As someone with a decent PC, I already consider the Xbox to be irrelevant (note: just in my own personal view) because any game released on it is available on PC at the same time, so I personally have no need or interest in buying Xbox hardware. Presumably there are many others who feel the same.

That's not really an issue for me, as while I did own an original Xbox and (eventually) a 360, I've never really been a Microsoft fan; in fact, I have quite a strong dislike of them as a company, going back to before Xbox was even a thing. But I have been a fan of PlayStation (and Sony) since the PS1, and I'm not keen on them removing reasons to buy their own hardware as I feel Microsoft has done.

At the end of the day though, I'll be playing their games anyway, and playing them pretty much exclusively consoles, so... I guess it changes nothing, really! Well, that was a waste of typing, wasn't it? 😄

Re: This Is Why PS5 Controllers Drift

Paranoimia

So, it's one of those things that is fairly natural, and just happens. Wear and tear.

If she were an actual person, I'm sure the legal teams behind these class action lawsuits would sue Mother Nature for the leaves falling from trees every autumn. "I don't care if you'll replace them in time, these trees were clearly not built to last!"

Re: PS5 DualSense Drifting Triggers Class Action Lawsuit

Paranoimia

Sh*tty, scumbag lawyers looking for any chance to make a few bucks.

As with any tech, a certain volume has some issues. Not everything requires a fecking lawsuit. The console's been out 3 months... if you've got an issue, it's still covered by warranty.

Once upon a time, I'd have said "only in America", but we all know this kind of crap has spread almost global now.
