Straight onto the wishlist. I was just thinking today I need more arty indie games to fall back on, as they invariably satisfy the soul so much more than their AAAA counterparts.
@Jrs1 yeah, the minority of 10-15 million that buy every AC and Far Cry π it's a total nonsense that Ubisoft isn't popular, really. They have just made some weird decisions lately, since Skull & Bones, and their own IP are much stronger than their massive licensed ones, it has turned out.
@Medic_alert they do all look a bit plasticine-y, to be fair. Roth is definitely the worst of the bunch though. I do think Aloy has a more gormless look about her, too. My main thoughts on it are, I'm all for making games look better, but if the cost is making the characters look airbrushed too, then that is not a cost I'm willing to accept. Hopefully it's just a random art style choice, but I never stuck with FW, so don't know if that suffers from the same weird less-than-human look. But it may also be why I didn't stick with it. At the time I just thought "i'm not feeling it" and I didn't know why, as it was the same gameplay as the first and the world looked great(er)
I'm going to try out HFW again when the pro is out to see if it sticks. I really hope this wasn't why it put me off first time though, hopefully I just wasn't in the mood for it π and hopefully they tone it down a little or it's less obvious in the actual HZD remake too.
All I know with the video is I saw what I saw and it deeply offended my senses (exaggeration, but only slightly π ) and I'm always happy to ramble on about games haha.
@Medic_alert I mean, I posted it here to make a joke about getting that colour of PS5, so colour me super f***ing disingenuous, I guess π«
Anyway, It is representative to what I saw of the video as the character models do look worse to me, whereas the world looks better. Hopefully they don't look like IG models super edited selfies in the actual game, of course, but it seems more like an art choice to make them look like this rather than "bad compression"
Source: my own eyes and opinion π (okay, I added the last bit as a bit of a snarky FU. But I don't actually want to say FU. It's only a chat on the internet, and in fact, have a nice evening)
@Medic_alert I'm not quite sure what you're getting at though, it's the same exact compressed video source as the original game that doesn't look s*** right next to it π π it is literally a side by side where the old one looks like a real person, and the new one looks like a filter on IG, regardless of if it's on YT or not.
@Medic_alert this isn't the scene with the baby Aloy on his back that they look at in detail, it is one where he is looking off into middle distance with a bow on his back, it literally only flicks up for a second, but I paused because I was like "wtf is that" ππ
@Stevemalkpus I mean, the fact I want my console in this colour scheme is the only joke element, unfortunately π beyond that I really wish it was a joke, as it looks like a bad filter on a phone! But it's taken from the Digital Foundry analysis which uses the official remaster footage. And it can be seen in the PS Studios trailer too, still glowing inexplicably, but without the side by side showing how the old game looks better for character models.
I suppose the real joke is that anyone thought this was a good idea and that they then managed to get it past anyone without being told "No! Bad, Dev. In your bed!" ππ
@Ainu20 don't forget the easy availability of getting the game through Ubi+ on PC and Xbox meaning that actual potential full price buyers of the game are just renting it for Β£$β¬15. I doubt Ubi+ will survive the shareholders investigations, and hopefully it's the begining of the end for all "day one" subscriptions, the blight on gaming that they are.
@Yousef- wow, you really are looking into it, then? how's the research going? I expect a full write up on my desk (the hot take thread) this week haha π
@get2sammyb I'm having flashbacks to making Norman Reedus dance during the 'not really the end' credits on DS1 by using his various left and right grip, balance and crouch animations in time with the music π
Also, are we thinking it's a 100% chance there's going to be some photomode psychological scares in this. As you take a photo and it flashes and something else is hidden in the background on the final image π
@EfYI I'm here to talk to you about kidnapping your family. With over double the criminal intent, advanced villainy, and a new proprietary form of torture.
Quite simply, I am the most powerful man you have ever seen.
Haven't played any Astro Bot for a week or so, i'd better play some of that.
Then there's the matter of seeing how Ireland would handle the running of north Africa in the middle ages on CK3. Not sure I'm playing the tutorial "right" but I'm enjoying it haha.
@Pranwell the lure might be there to test out how PSSR can be used for future games. I'm sure a small team could be made to implement a few RT sliders, too.
Here's hoping CP2077 and TW3 get a little look in. Sometimes devs can't be stopped tweaking if it's something new and exciting to try out that could help future releases π
@LN78 stand, controller, edge as well as the ps5 pro though, you grabbed a bargain, really π I'd have probably sold the edge to make it a bigger win, seeing as they never stock the replacement sticks anyway. Genuinely surprised it was Β£959 and the regular pro doesn't even have a bloody stand at Β£699
And using an anniversary addition knowing it won't lose value is kind of neat, whereas the pro is just the pro, forever. People will always envy your anniversary one
Yep, I also got back in to see my order there in writing.
@Titntin I probably missed out on the anniversary by a minute too. It wasn't my intention to go for it, but when I saw that price it surprised me and won me round, so I clicked to buy it, but it was gone. As I'm on the site and got a place, I'm going to refresh on the PS5 anniversary pro a few times today, just in case people cancel orders and it reappears, if you've got a tab open, maybe try the same.
And yes, Regular Pro still available for people, the rush was definitely for the anniversary stuff, but if you want one, get it ordered, just in case.
@ZeD I mean, there might be some stock of something, but I imagine most are queueing for the same few things, so a little info flash for what has gone would help people not waste time, yeah.
@Intr1n5ic @LN78 I think my email must be too old and slow, it's being overtaken by everyone else on here, should have got a nice fresh address just for this π
But I have an order number and I'm not afraid to use it, always make a habit of writing it down just in case π¬
@Buckster666 I mean, the AC series is a sales monster, Valhalla making over a billion dollars in revenue. Also, AC Shadows and the 3 versions of it have been charting in the pre order charts for months. But yes, I'm sure it will be DOA because some people are mad on the internet πππ
@LifeGirl keep console games at a stable 30/40 and just make them look better and better.
This is the way.
If 75% of people are happier that they can now play those "unplayable at 30fps" games on the pro in the same fidelity as is already possible on PS5 then it's a bonus π
@jrt87 but 30fps and 40fps modes with better image quality and RT is what it will deliver going forward. I do think anyone buying it just for improved frames in the same fidelity as PS5 would be better of not bothering π but Mark Cerny was told by marketing that 75% of people care about frames, so had to focus on that in the presentation π
@Fiendish-Beaver I doubt that is why they are actually delaying it, but if it is, then good. But it is more likely because they want to make the next fiscal year stand out, avoid any potential reduced sales from bad press and hope people have calmed down by then. They can't afford any more flack this year, so they are running scared π
AC games don't usually launch badly, and AC valhalla made over a billion.
@Ralizah this is what I was going to say. You can't just put games out there and hope, especially now there's just so many games out there.
Jusant was really good, but it was also on game pass. Banishers kind of just got a small bit of coverage on hardcore gaming websites and blended into the background.
@Th3solution perhaps, perhaps not. I don't think the user is the problem, but the system itself. Subscriptions, for one, make you realise just how many god damn games there are, which probably doesn't help π in some cases it will help smaller titles, but with so much choice how is anyone ever going to play them.
I think subscriptions need to go a way for a while and have a good long talk to themselves. And maybe come back as a premium product with well thought out, specially picked selections made by people who play games themselves. Titles being on for a shorter amount of time with new headliners each month that get people interested. A much more artisan approach to gaming than the netflix tv "shove a bunch of generic, broad appeal s*** at peoples faces, and 20 times as much niche sh**, but then throw a few good shows in there every so often" approach.
Not to mention the fact that people have been conditioned to only want to play games if they can play 4 AAA titles for Β£2... That definitely doesn't help π
Crusader Kings 3 The tale of Brian mac Brian Briain continues. Now an aging king of Ireland, veteran of many wars, both fuedal and holy. Brian III dead in a ditch, one daughter unreachable in a far away land, the Albino Queen of Moldavia, her betrothed stuck in scotland unable to marry her (π ) she will have no children of her own. A pilgrimage helped ease Brian's worries, but 2 wives have since died, King Brian's depression has spiralled out of control once more. 3 new wives married in a last gasp of desperation. A gift, a new son Brian III the second... attempt π A handsome boy, but his father is only just hanging on to life, what can he teach him in his final moments. Ireland has been secured, no more conquests; unite, unify and defend!
Wait? SIE conned by Bungie... Twice?! πͺπͺπͺ
As soon as I read "the studio's Bungie roots" everything seemed to make sense for a moment. Whatever the real cost... it's how they *con*vinced Sony to give up all that money that is the real problem.
@ApostateMage fall back on it, you will like the direction it takes. It is just sometimes a bit of a slog to get there haha.
Which takes me to my main thought. I kind of hope the third one ditches the metroidvania elements in favour of 5 times more story and cinematic elements. Using cool corridor set pieces to replace the metroidvania and souls elements. Keep a hub area that changes around you that you have to keep coming back to, maybe for a slight bit of that type of thing on one planet maybe. But the rest of the time make it more like how God of War functions.
I think the best new unlock from Survivor is the Ghost of Tsushima like skill, so a full game with that available intrigues me. Also, if something something happens to something or someone then something else might definitely happen. And it will be both sad and amazing at the same time.
Ahhhhh there is such storyline potential around one specific thing that could make it truly shocking and memorable and it's hard to discuss. But it will definitely happen, eeeeeek
I watched some yesterday and all I could think was
1. It's going to be some task to get it on consoles at a stable fps.

@GamingFan4Lyf well, I mean, you actually signed up, so maybe that lol I was just thinking of some way of determining the buyer is not just an email address and a PO box π I'm sure they can track that you've got trophies for gameplay etc. Just thinking of an extra level to stop scalpers π but like I said, hopefully this is enough protection for buyers as it is and the people that want one can get one

@Toot1st this is why marketing has been THE biggest factor in Sony's success. And marketing happens to be one of MS many, many weak points.
Sony has made itself synonymous with Franchise Titles, Big Brands, GTA, Fifa and CoD, the Champions League, The UK, Europe and The World.
MS has a core following in middle America, and is synonymous with Space Marines, Space Marines, and maybe some other Space Marines.
How a global company like MS can be so insular when it comes to selling consoles to people is crazy π
