Live service games aren't over, so stop being crazy, people! Helldivers 2 is literally mentioned in this article!!! And if a game is designed to be a good live service game, then that is fine.
It's just that this is not what this game is. It's just an IP, a concept, and then a bunch of outside interference to make it live service
@Shepherd_Tallon I've always wondered if those sales figures are genuine sales, or include downloads/claims as they gave it away for free on all new PS5's, same as Days Gone. I don't know if there's any concrete evidence or not? But if they are sales, it'd be interesting to know the total numbers including the free downloads and claims too. And if not, the proportion of sales vs free downloads.
I might end up with Pentiment on the Switch. I'll keep an eye out on the Avowed and Outer Worlds 2 release announcements in future, just in case they need their games to actually sell elsewhere. Elsewhere like, I dont know, PS store ð
I see a bounty hunter or a mandalorian as a more cerebral and considered combatant, so "very fast paced" just puts me right off the idea of it.
Plus, how many "Mandalorians" can they shoehorn into an "also a bounty hunter" guise.
In fact @KundaliniRising333 already nailed it. A fallout style game would suit the tone and concept a whole lot better.
I'd much rather play a game where I had to trek across a bleak landscape to buy parts from some Jawa because my ship got damaged and my bounty escaped.
Pretty happy with Extra, especially with recent additions. Finally getting a bit of use and therefore value out of it for this year's cycle with FF7, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart etc, and The Outer Worlds coming soon.
My premium remains basically unused as I just got it to try game streaming and demos, so that will for sure get downgraded. No interest in the 'retro' stuff they add. But that's just me.
And I'll check the expected "horrendous month" comments later for a laugh ðĪŠ
I'm kind of stuck in a weird place where I'm waiting for The Outer Worlds to hit PS Plus. I could definitely go for a bit of that type of game this weekend, but I will wait.
So probably some Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and maybe just some old favourites for a bit of low energy chill time where I don't have to follow any story or look to advance anything in particular.
FF7 Remake ended up on the back burner, so maybe get back on that.
Also, trying to work out if the NBA All-Star Dunk Contest will be on League Pass in the UK or not ð
@themightyant fair. I guess delaying failure (Embracer knows which were set to fail, I imagine) is better in some ways, but also, maybe delaying the inevitable isn't the best plan.
I think their plan was maybe to patch everything together as good as possible with those studios, make it look like they had some value, get the funding and then sort things out after that and hope it works out. And if not, hey we got some investors money. But now the patch job is just falling apart and they don't have the investment they expected and its just a big mess.
I am biased, but they have not proven they have any clue how to release "19 AAA games by 2026" and I don't think their influence has helped out many studios anyway. We shall see, I suppose.
@Alps_Stranger this is where my main embracer dislike, bias and worry lies, tbh ðĩ
Such a great independent studio that got wrapped up with THQ and therefore Embracer. Wish they could have got funding elsewhere. Also, one of the nicest, most supportive fan communities that is still growing to this day.
@themightyant I think it's more to come too, though. No way any overlord can oversee 124 projects with exactly zero track record of making anything work so far ðĩ
These companies would have been better pushing through on their own, and at least they could fall on their own creativity and ideals, rather than someone else's spreadsheet
Did anyone mention peach fuzz yet? I enjoy when people argue about peach fuzz. Can't wait for the full in-game graphical reveal with all that peach fuzz ððð
This comments section is a s*** show, and I love it ð
First off. Praise to the objective commenters ðĨ
Second, I'll always try a racer for a bit of random fun (especially as we move into spring/summer months, this kind of game suits me well for that time of year)
And I am currently playing a bit of Ratchet and Clank and this silly sci fi fun has made The Outer World's appeal to me once again (was kind of hoping High on Life would be added fairly soon, and it might in the next few months too judging by the deep sale price atm)
But no Final Fanatasy Rebirth day one, or the latest Call of Duty grrrrrrrrrr what a joke of a month ð ð
What they need is one of their already established IP's that had a great single player campaign, to also be usable as a Live Service/multiplayer in the end game (you know, like GTA did) Other live service stuff is totally hit and miss, but if you have created the world, lore and environments people want to play in, you are half way to success before you start.
It's a shame they didn't fully commit to TLoU online, that would have maybe been a good start point to test the waters on this.
They do have Killzone (a game I never played) but I imagine it would take less effort to make that into a profitable game than trying to latch on to a random new trend.
Uncharted Online: Global Treasure Hunts, something like that as a spin off for kids. Have timed treasure hunts with rewards for the multiplayer element they tagged on to that franchise, once. It doesn't have to be anything to do with Nathan Drake, or a story, just create avatars and try to be first (top X number on a Global leaderboard) to solve clues, hunt the treasure, fight off some people and get your boosts and rewards for the next round of the hunt.
If the interest in the IP is already there, there is more reason for people to stick around, you'd hope.
@CharlieChooChoo but that fourth one will star Jeremy Renner and suck ðŽ
Weirdly, space heretics and prophecies sound more like that Star Wars Eclipse game Quantic Dream say they are making. But I imagine Naughty Dog, Santa Monica and Bend will all have released their exclusive new ip's before we even see a glimpse of that, so whichever it turns out to be, they will have got that Space Religion tone nailed before Quantic release their effort.
@Ultrasmiles I mean, it is a bad comparison, as 1890-1945 is a lot more recent than say, 700ad lol but yeah... Despite it being from views from the mid 1800's (still 1000 years more recent than the Viking era lol) it is clearly something that was a part of Japanese thinking and politics during the wars, and something that could be seen as being glorified with those comments.
I'm pretty sure the dude that said it didn't mean he loved Yoshida's thoughts and willingness to act on them in the way that it is being taken though, I.e openly supporting invasion/annexation/murder, because why would you say that. It is hopefully going to be a lot more complex than that, and we will see what aspects of Yoshida's views are portrayed in game.
For me, it just makes me want to learn more about the period, see how the game depicts things, and seek alternate views on the same events to hopefully have a deeper understanding. I imagine it is solely focused on the actual in state Japanese affairs though, and their ruling classes, rather than their actions elsewhere.
The real interesting thing will be to see how The USA is portrayed, as they are the ones that set everything in motion, as they tend to do. And the setting of the game is smack bang when the US forced Japan to open up to the west.
I'm a fairly avid gamer, I like the fantasy genre and I like single player games. Yet, I still have no real idea what this game even is
I don't know if it is story based, action based, a good mix of the two, but I think the general feel was it looked like an online game and I just didn't care enough to look into it.
Marketing definitely failed it. As for the game and developer itself, who knows? I can't say they bit off more than they could chew as I've never seen enough of it in action to have any opinion on it ðĪ·ââïļ
@Darylb88 probably lol. GTA 5 made over $1billion income in 5 days we must remember.
So a random 1$billion reduction seems really quite low for a GTA 6 delay anyway, unless the suits were literally trying to force it out by March 31st 2025 to end that fiscal year strong, but now it is clear to them it can't release until much later.
Which, I suppose would fit the profile of those number loving suits. And would be a bit sad if that was the initial plan to force it out to meet that deadline just to get a shiny number in both fiscal years.
Take-Two's latest earnings report - "77 million Gen 9 consoles outstanding worldwide, as of 31st December 2023."
If they had to lower sales expectations after initially assuming more consoles would be in play for them then they'd have to lower that 8 Billion, somehwat. If they initially thought they could sneak it on to PS4 or Series S too and have since been told by the devs that, no, no they can't, they would have to significantly lower that number again.
This is just random stuff based off another article here, and has as much value as anything you have said, analysts. So, shush now ð
Helldivers does sound fun from everyone's mentions. I guess once word of mouth sales die down it could be one to pick up on PS Plus. Sony and the dev would both be wise working something out financially to get it on there quickly.
As for weekend gaming, who knows. Maybe a bit of FF7 Remake, FC24 and I'm currently deciding whether to bother buying NBA 2K24 after the trial, but they haven't even got a bald Derrick White in game, so is there even any point ð
If this studio can start converting their mobile fanbase to consoles and single player games the market will grow and hopefully the desire for more single player games will grow with the younger audiences and PlayStation will benefit.
If this is successful it could be the saviour of the gaming experience we love
Nothing has ever made me buy an Xbox, despite liking the odd release (Remedy) but the last few years I've been waiting for MS to give me a real reason to get onto their 'eco system' with their aggressive plans, and I was expecting that to be on the release of the series X, but it wasnt, and now I won't even need to, so... ð
I'll happily check out anything that comes over to see if it appeals, but I'm not touching any meaty American Space Marine based games.
Second PS Showcase.
Xbox Multi Platform Announcement.
Then a massive State of Play announced where Sony gets to flex exclusives coming in the next 2 years, including a look at the the New PS5 Pro which will be the only console capable of playing GTA6 properly? ðððð
I mean, to be fair it's win/win/win. Xbox exclusives aren't moving the needle or driving console sales like they would want, and its not like they are fully exclusive because of PC anyway, but I feel like a game like Starfield or Indiana Jones would sell into the millions on PS, and the initial full price sales boost is just bonus money for everyone involved.
I'd be surprised if Bethesda hadn't been driving this behind the scenes themselves, a Starfield second coming with big updates could change the narrative on everything, like when Cyberpunk finally got itself together. I don't think the exclusivity has been good for Bethesda as a publisher or developer. And the two games mentioned are Bethesda Developed/published
Yeah, if this type of content was consistent throughout the year you'd have a chance of say 5/6 AA-AAA fairly fresh releases that you'd be interested in by law of averages, on top of say 20+ similar level games that maybe aren't to your personal taste, as well as the lesser stuff. So it is a good bit of momentum following on from A Plague Tale: Requiem.
It's some pretty narrow minded voting this month. Some months, you can understand a bit of a moan. But this is a bit silly if people can't resist being totally subjective in their viewpoint. Take a step back and see the progress over some right stinkers we had last year ð
@Nei that's fair. I just hope for the day where there is a little bit more universality to products, and operating systems, I think. I don't think people owning a Steam Deck and a PS Portable and a Switch all at once would be a common thing though. So it is maybe more of what Sony could change to secure a handheld future, and if they collaborated (or paid Valve some money to help integrate PC and PS on a handheld) it'd be better all round.
Of course, Sony will think they have enough games to have their own handheld, and they probably do.
I guess, in my mind, Gamepass is available on PC so they can eventually steamroller steam as a storefront so MS can control both Operating systems and game stores on PC's in the future ð
Number two digital game in the UK so far this week, behind EAFC but ahead of CoD and miles ahead of LAD.
I still don't think it's for me, despite thinking it would be when they first showed the concept (without gameplay) but I think it's safe to assume the game is selling pretty well so far.
@Pranwell indeed. I only have to pay ÂĢ1.15p if I do want to purchase it day 1, as my aggregated voucher savings left over in my store wallet on top of PS Stars credits have stacked up rather nicely. And then some people will buy it new on disc, play it in one massive dorito's and domino's fuelled mega week and then sell it on and only pay net ÂĢ10-15 for it.
Price is different for everyone, there is no clear cut "better" other than what works for you. But digital definitely isn't the set bad option that people like to say it is.
Said it before, it'd be cool if Sony and Steam/Valve collaborate on some things to counter Microsoft, Xbox and Gamepass PC trying to eat everything up.
A portable that can play PS Plus catalogue, and buy games from Steam, PS and maybe other stores too. And I'd love to see a PlayStation made PC/Laptop that could do similar things (pipedreams)
Just give Mark Cerny a massive budget and a few labs around the world full of boffins and let him go nuts ð
@LiamCroft IGN seems to think it may be setting up the SH universe/world events at large, don't they? ðĩ and two very different takes overall. Definitely worth people reading both Liam's and IGN impressions to get a full idea of what this game is.
I might finally convert RDR2 to a digital version, just because there are funds sloshing about on my store wallet. And maybe they will one day add a PS5 update for it if I finally buy it for a second time, but knowing TakeTwo I'd be having to buy it for a completely seperate third time for that edition ðð
Steelrising is the exact level of game you want to see most months as the free/bonus single player download. It's a game that people might get in a sale for ÂĢ15-20 and good enough to not be a spit in the face to anyone.
Can't see anyone seriously moaning about the month, it is the kind of month we need to support and hopefully we see more of them. A single player game, a newly featured mulitplayer, and then a more casual/sport/arcade type game as the other.
Can Sony or Microsoft just come in and save some of these studios. I know it's not the perfect ideal, but Embracer is worse with studios and IP's than anyone out there.
Just move some studios on, cut your losses and f*** right off, Embracer! ð
I hope this finally teaches people that "early access" is just paying to be a QA tester with zero benefits.
Refund everyone the extra ÂĢ$⎠this "Deluxe Edition" cost them, and apologise for this lame launch. Then other developers might be discouraged in the future from trying this rubbish tactic if a refunding precedent is set now. It's the one thing Rocksteady can do to help gaming as a whole
Suicide Squad: KTJL is currently ahead of LAD:IW in the UK Digital PS Store chart ðŽ obviously physical sales for that aren't going to count yet as the game isn't out, but it's looking like it will have a stronger debut than LAD.
Someone could probably do some math and work out some potential sales numbers based on usual LAD figures. Be interesting to see the article next week to see if it translates to a strong physical release â ïļ
Rise of the Ronin Stellar Blade FF7 Rebirth DS2 (but not on the beach as that was just Kojima trolling because he can) Maybe some Spider-Man DLC? Or Wolverine updates via a cgi trailer of a room full of hackers getting sliced up â ïļ Some live service stuff...
Updates from Bluepoint. Bend. Sucker Punch or Naughty Dog.
A fraction of any of that and it would be a good show, regardless of when we have to wait until. I imagine they will want to make a big statement this time though.
I've been going increasingly digital for the past few years, vastly accelerated when I could only get the Ps5 digital model.
Some of the benefits to me are: it is so much easier on the spur of the moment to buy and download a game you want, the console runs super quiet, the prices with either sales or vouchers for new games are not actually that different, and I've got great value from digital at times. I was never a big reseller, and if I buy a game I always aim to get the value out of it in the time I spend playing it, and if I do, then I am happy with my purchase regardless of if I ever play it again.
But there are of course negatives for people, and having the option hopefully continues for a good while. Most people, me included, would never even become interested in games if there weren't hand-me-downs, second hand stores, gifting etc, so in the interest of protecting the future this needs to still be an option. It's not like kids are walking around with wallets stuffed with cash (or I suppose that'd be digital wallets figuratively stuffed with binary representations of cash)
I will say that I am an advocate for digital stores being under more scrutiny and regulation though. And I do not see subscription models as the future because of the many pitfalls that surround them (start strong, peak, have to keep profits going up because of capitalism being a sh** show. And the solution for profitability is always to reduce quality, increase price, and repeat forever until it implodes)
I don't really miss physical games myself, but that is mostly because the effort in them has dropped off massively anyway. I used to love reading manuals as the game installed, pawing over the detailed maps and extras. But most games just ship with a single piece of paper with a brief suggestion that the right trigger is the shoot button, and some terms and conditions, which just isn't very exciting to own, and that definitely helped cool me on the whole physical experience.

Then a massive State of Play announced where Sony gets to flex exclusives coming in the next 2 years, including a look at the the New PS5 Pro which will be the only console capable of playing GTA6 properly? ðððð
Can you imagine ðĩ
Re: Rumour: Xbox's Indiana Jones Game Also Being 'Considered' for PS5
They need their ESVI budget, damnit ð
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for February 2024?
@Areus @Cikajovazmaj @colonelkilgore
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 514
Played FFVII Remake Intergrade late into the night last night. So i'm mostly going to be playing that
Oh, and also the final boss section on FFXVI, I guess. Like a lot of other people here, within touching distance of the finale.
Re: Rumour: A New PlayStation Handheld Console Reportedly in the Works
Re: Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League (PS5) - Rocksteady's Big Gamble Just About Pays Off
Number two digital game in the UK so far this week, behind EAFC but ahead of CoD and miles ahead of LAD.
I still don't think it's for me, despite thinking it would be when they first showed the concept (without gameplay) but I think it's safe to assume the game is selling pretty well so far.
Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demands Nearly 150GB of PS5 Storage Space
@Pranwell indeed. I only have to pay ÂĢ1.15p if I do want to purchase it day 1, as my aggregated voucher savings left over in my store wallet on top of PS Stars credits have stacked up rather nicely. And then some people will buy it new on disc, play it in one massive dorito's and domino's fuelled mega week and then sell it on and only pay net ÂĢ10-15 for it.
Price is different for everyone, there is no clear cut "better" other than what works for you. But digital definitely isn't the set bad option that people like to say it is.
Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demands Nearly 150GB of PS5 Storage Space
FF XVI is 92GB
FF7 Remake is 95GB
BG3 is only 110/120 GB ð
FF7 Rebirth at 145GB is crazy
PS5 games are supposed to be optimised for smaller install sizes too ðĩ
Re: Rumour: A New PlayStation Handheld Console Reportedly in the Works
Said it before, it'd be cool if Sony and Steam/Valve collaborate on some things to counter Microsoft, Xbox and Gamepass PC trying to eat everything up.
A portable that can play PS Plus catalogue, and buy games from Steam, PS and maybe other stores too. And I'd love to see a PlayStation made PC/Laptop that could do similar things (pipedreams)
Just give Mark Cerny a massive budget and a few labs around the world full of boffins and let him go nuts ð
Re: Silent Hill: The Short Message (PS5) - There's a Reason It's Free
@LiamCroft IGN seems to think it may be setting up the SH universe/world events at large, don't they? ðĩ and two very different takes overall. Definitely worth people reading both Liam's and IGN impressions to get a full idea of what this game is.
Re: Prices Plunge on Over 1,500 PS5, PS4 Games in Brand-New Sale
I might finally convert RDR2 to a digital version, just because there are funds sloshing about on my store wallet. And maybe they will one day add a PS5 update for it if I finally buy it for a second time, but knowing TakeTwo I'd be having to buy it for a completely seperate third time for that edition ðð
Re: PS Plus Essential Games for February 2024 Announced
Steelrising is the exact level of game you want to see most months as the free/bonus single player download. It's a game that people might get in a sale for ÂĢ15-20 and good enough to not be a spit in the face to anyone.
Can't see anyone seriously moaning about the month, it is the kind of month we need to support and hopefully we see more of them. A single player game, a newly featured mulitplayer, and then a more casual/sport/arcade type game as the other.
Re: Stellar Blade Springs Back to Life as Anticipated PS5 Exclusive Nears
It'd be so cool if the video package ends with "download the demo now" ðð
Re: Deus Ex Game Reportedly Cancelled, Almost 100 Devs Laid Off
Can Sony or Microsoft just come in and save some of these studios. I know it's not the perfect ideal, but Embracer is worse with studios and IP's than anyone out there.
Just move some studios on, cut your losses and f*** right off, Embracer! ð
Re: Suicide Squad Already Taken Offline as Glitch Completes the Game for Early Access Players
Re: UK Sales Charts: Tekken 8 KOs the Competition with Number One Debut
Suicide Squad: KTJL is currently ahead of LAD:IW in the UK Digital PS Store chart ðŽ obviously physical sales for that aren't going to count yet as the game isn't out, but it's looking like it will have a stronger debut than LAD.
Someone could probably do some math and work out some potential sales numbers based on usual LAD figures. Be interesting to see the article next week to see if it translates to a strong physical release â ïļ
Re: Rumour: Dragon's Dogma 2 Runs at 30fps on PS5
It's an AA game that does look like an AA game. So there will be compromises.
I hope people enjoy it, and it shouldn't exactly take away from it if it is a good game.
It does support Ray Tracing, which I value way more for an immersive world, so maybe the devs would just rather focus on that.
Re: Fresh State of Play Rumours Running Rampant, Lots of Games Speculated
Rise of the Ronin
Stellar Blade
FF7 Rebirth
DS2 (but not on the beach as that was just Kojima trolling because he can)
Maybe some Spider-Man DLC?
Or Wolverine updates via a cgi trailer of a room full of hackers getting sliced up â ïļ
Some live service stuff...
Updates from Bluepoint. Bend. Sucker Punch or Naughty Dog.
A fraction of any of that and it would be a good show, regardless of when we have to wait until. I imagine they will want to make a big statement this time though.
Re: Soapbox: This Is Why Physical Games Are Still Important to Me
Nice read.
