Re: Poll: Do You Think Google Stadia and Streaming Are the Future of Video Games?

RenanKJ

One more comment on the matter.

I don't like the fact that it's going to require Google Chrome to be used. It's a browser, not a gaming application. Never understood why Google dislikes desktop applications... It's not so hard to build them as companion apps for the Web version...

@AntDickens
Hey! For some reason, when I open the website without specifying "https", it redirects me to "http" instead...

Re: Ex-PlayStation Executive: Google Stadia Starts Inevitable Shift Away from Consoles

RenanKJ

Ok, careful about the way you're thinking, Google! To believe something is the future without thinking about what customers want is a dangerous path.

The market fully believed that desktops and notebooks were going to be completely replaced by tablets a few years ago. Dell purchased the company back from stock market since he believed otherwise, turns out he was right: tablets are pretty much dead while desktops and notebooks are still pretty strong because that is what customers want.

IMO, if PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox keep doing their thing, this whole Scadia is gonna go down faster than Titanic. You see, customers actually want these systems, ultimately games are what move them, not hi-tech (see Xbox One vs PlayStation 4).

Re: Feature: Why You Shouldn't Worry About PS5 Backwards Compatibility

RenanKJ

Come on, guys! Of course BC is important for PS5. To be honest, it would already be a nice-to-have on PS4.

Reason #1: PlayStation Store! Digital libraries are a big thing nowadays. You can certainly keep your physical games in future generations, but what about those who depend on servers? What's the appeal to maintain servers for old games that can only be played in old consoles? BC can keep your collection alive and well.

Reason #2: Playstation Store Part 2! Sony can get a huge revenue by selling games that require close to no costs for them, since they've already been produced.

Reason #3: Retro games areite a big market now.

Reason #4: Do not underestimate PlayStation 4's library. It may not have BC, but it brought both amazing new games and beloved old ones. From Uncharted to Tomb Raider to Kingdom Hearts to Crash Bandicoot to Spyro, can you deny that most franchises are part of it? I mean, for a lot of them we actually have the ENTIRE franchise back.

Reason #5: PlayStation Platform: Subscription-based Gaming as a Service. You can refuse it as much as you want, in the future we won't have local games anymore, running them from the Cloud, possibly on multiple devices. Everything is moving towards this direction (think Netflix, Spotify, Kindle Unlimited and so on). Tell me, when this is the reality, would you choose the platform with your entire digital library or one of the countless new platforms that will show up in the market?

And these are the top ones I can think about. BC wasn't a big thing until this generation. It's essential now.

Re: Feature: What to Expect from PlayStation in 2019

RenanKJ

Imagine this: PlayStation Meeting in November 2019, the PS5 is announced and it's completely backwards compatible, so Last of Us Part II and all the other games can be played on both systems day one. Releasing March 2020. It would work for me, haha. =)

Re: Game of the Year 2018: Jacob's Personal Picks

RenanKJ

Surprising number one game! I didn't play the first one to the end, but I loved the parts I've played. Ni No Kuni 2 is by the top of my list for 2019, along Kingdom Hearts III, God of War and Resident Evil 2. Might toss some Spider-Man's DLC into the mix.

Re: We Wish You a Merry Christmas

RenanKJ

Merry Christmas, Push Square community! You guys are the best, and keep up the good work on the website. It's definitely the best place to read and talk about videogames. =)

Re: Game of the Year 2018: #8 - Shadow of the Colossus

RenanKJ

What do we say about the trending in gaming when 2 of the top 10 titles in 2018 are single-player remakes? =)

Never played SotC, I played Ico to the end and kinda hated it, I was a kid so maybe I didn't get it... Anyway, given that experience, I don't feel like playing another artistic empty world at all.

Re: Game of the Year 2018: #10 - Spyro: Reignited Trilogy

RenanKJ

@GKO900 I agree with @get2sammyb on this. Remakes have their place, remasters are really not needed (backwards compatibility can cover that perfectly).

I absolutely loved Crash, I'm looking forward to playing Spyro! It's gonna have to wait a while, though, since I'm playing God of War, then there's Kingdom Hearts III and Resident Evil 2 in January... 2019 is gonna be another big year for PS4.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man: Turf Wars - Another Helping of Spidey Goodness

RenanKJ

Expected, sounds good! This review seems more fair than the one for the previous chapter - I like how it states 'more of the same' as good (since the game is really good) instead of a being a bad thing. Personally, I think DLCs should be exactly that, more of the same. I mean, if it's different, then it should be a sequel.

Re: Patent Prompts PS5 Backwards Compatibility Rumours

RenanKJ

Interesting technology, probably not related to BC, though, as the article mentions.

Speaking of BC, yes, PS5 must have it. It's time for Sony to embrace PlayStation as a platform now that so many gamers have a large digital library. I wanna play all the amazing PS4 games again in my PS5 alongside new games.

As for the argument that it's better for PlayStation to focus on new hardware and experiences than holding the tech back for BC, I miss the point where PCs stopped innovating and improving because pretty much everything from decades ago still works.

Re: Spider-Man PS4's Platinum Completion Rate Is Insane

RenanKJ

I agree with @Neolit. Spider-Man has the perfect set of trophies, you obtain everything by just playing everything the game has to offer; you get it by having fun enjoying the game.

Other games should learn from this one. Final Fantasy XV also had a rather nice list, I got the platinum by enjoying the game without much effort beyond doing everything it had to offer.

Naughty Dog is quite terrible with its list. So is Tomb Raider and Assassin's Creed (which includes multiplayer trophies & maximize level in multiplayer trophies - the horror).

Re: Kingdom Hearts Tells 'The Story So Far' with Complete Edition on PS4

RenanKJ

Surprisingly, they actually picked a short and meaninful name this time.

Love the series, I already have them on PS4 and, between PS3 and PS4, I've played them all back to back. If you guys get a chance to play the demo with Aqua on 2.8, do so, it's a fantastic taste of what's coming in terms of graphics and gameplay. I remember being completely amazed by the design of some enemies - one in particular made me put the controller aside to watch it a little (it moves like a flow of water, but in the air, and the fluid animation is Pixar-quality).

Re: Talking Point: Is Astro Bot the Mascot of the PS4 Era?

RenanKJ

PlayStation has no mascots, in my perspective. I can't think of a character that is widely recognized and attached to the brand. People think of PlayStation when they say PlayStation. I mean, it's easy to think of Mario, DK or Zelda when saying Nintendo, for example. But PS is its own "mascot" - the logo, the voice speaking the brand name, etc.

That said, Astro Bot? With the expection of those that are all in on PSVR, nobody even heard about the guy/girl/bot. If anything, he is known as the app everybody wants to delete.

Re: Review: Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PS4)

RenanKJ

@zimbogamer I had the exact same feeling playing Rise. It's the reason why I haven't completed it yet.

Enjoyed the review, it's honest and straight to the point. It sells the game for me as "Gameplay-wise, if you enjoyed the previous ones, you'll enjoy Shadow, just keep your expectations in check about the story." which is perfectly good. It also gets extra points with me for removing the excessive amount of combat.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 237

RenanKJ

Playing Spider-Man. It deserves all the praise it got (parkour is kinda lame, but then using webs is so fun that it doesn't matter). Yooka-Laylee is on hold for now, and I still want to play Shadow of TR, Dragon Quest and God of War this year. I hope to have enough time to play them. =)

@get2sammyb Speaking of Shadow, when is Push Square review coming?
