Honestly, it's quite obvious that a powerful new hardware is gonna run today's games a lot better with the new slogans "no loading screen", "amazing graphics", and so on. But I remain skeptical about games coming 3 years from now. Once dev studios start using the full technology, we'll once again have loading screens and 30fps, specially as they learn the limits of the hardware.
It would be cool if they announced RE1 ReRemake in the new engine as a cross-gen launch title, then RE8 as next-gen only and afterwards RE4 Remake. One can only hope...
I assume that most publishers have a contract with Sony and Microsoft about holding their announcements until PS5 and Xbox are properly announced. So I'll expect some updates on existing games and maybe one or two teasers.
Much like other folks here, I'm thinking about skipping Day 1 as well. I'll definitely buy a PS5, but from everything we know so far about next-gen, which is not much, it's the first time for me that new videogames aren't exciting at all. And to top it all, there's no word about pricing and date, so I have no clue how much I'd need to reserve.
I haven't watched it yet, looking forward to do it as soon as possible!
Based on your comments, my hope is that the realistic graphics depicting violence doesn't get so unconfortable to the point I need to take a break from the game every now and then.
Am I the only one who actually wants to experience how the game plays out after reading the spoilers? It seems we're in for a genre-defining game again.
@GamingFan4Lyf For a long time, I agreed with you. It caused me some bad moments already.
Back in PS3 era, specially being a completionist, I couldn't avoid seeking them all for a few months, when I first got in contact with them. I hated it, it destroyed the fun in playing games, because they forced me to do boring stuff and extend my playthrough way longer than needed. I put an end to it when I was playing one my favorite games, Kingdom Hearts, an action RPG, and there were trophies asking me to keep using the original weapon through the entire game and do a speed run (so basically killing customization and exploration, which are two things I love in gaming).
I still find it hard to avoid seeking trophies when they start popping up, or when they don't pop up for too long (because I know they're there). But it's easier than it used to be.
Playing Nintendo is so much better in this regard, because all I do is enjoy the game without worrying about statistics.
I do understand that other gamers like trophies, though. If they could offer a "disable" feature, as in the list of trophies disappears, I'd like that.
I agree completely! The recent RE games prove that the audience is there for games with smaller and interactive worlds. Open world decorative worlds are tiresome after so many titles...
Well, I'll put RE4 purchase on hold, then. My goal was to play the entire franchise, so far I went through RE0 to RE3. If they're going to remake RE4, I better wait...
Started playing it last night, so far so good! Did anyone find news or interviews with Capcom talking about RE3R? I really wanted to hear their reasons for many of their choices - in particular about the game's short length.
@Matroska Try booting RE3R. You don't even need to open the title screen, just keep it open and go back to the menu. PS4 becomes a drone and takes flight.
@AdamNovice Well aware, I'm a software developer. Just saying that it should have went gold months ago.
Anyway, I hope I didn't upset anyone too much with what I said. I love ND games. And after so long, and after delays, and living in a quarantine in my city, it's incredibly disappointing and hard to believe.
@Flynmay I guess it's going to be delayed as well, unfortunately. It would be very odd if they managed to release it while ND couldn't. Sony is publishing both, isn't it?
@AhmadSumadi I can understand that. I'm working remotely for a few weeks now, due to the virus. My point is that there are even news of crunch hours and all. And they have delayed the game before already. So it comes down to (1) they didn't manage properly the scope of work vs resources and audience expectations, or (2) they believe the current context would affect their sales due to the theme of the game and difficulty to reach retailers. Due to the "final bugs" thing, I'm a little more inclined to the first option.
@Alfieburns @AhmadSumadi Honestly? Product managers should plan for it. This is one of the most expected games on PlayStation for years. They certainly couldn't predict it, but they could react to it. Instead they suspended it indefinitely one month prior to release. Were they waiting until the release month to start manufacturing the physical media? For marketing? There're no other ways to showcase the game?
I can understand the strategy to avoid losing sales, though. But ND just gives me that Hideo Kojima feeling of "it's not perfect yet, let's postpone the release".
I don't buy their excuse. They designed something huge and amazing without proper planning, hence why they need yet another delay, without a final date.
It wouldn't make a meaningful difference to me, but it's definitely a nice gesture, that helps people stay inside their homes in these difficult times. Another possibility would be to remove temporarily the requirement of PS Plus for online gaming.
Look, guys, I understand the argument that they did what they said they would do, that this was not the official reveal.
But let's be real, everyone and their grandmas want to see the PS5 in action and Sony has been silent for so long. Everyone was home in quarantine. We wondered if among the architectural stuff, the console would be shown, maybe the controller or some tech demos to showcase its features. Sony didn't schedule this as a reveal. But this became the official reveal in the end. For the consumer, the player. Simple as that. They should have realized it and reviewed the presentation.
It's not that the average gamer is stupid. It's that Sony did not understand the context where it was sharing this.
Good lord, this presentation was awful... Sure, it would work perfectly in GDC, but this was online for everyone. And everyone was crazy to hear anything about PS5.
Now they revealed the details, in the most boring way imaginable. The impact of the "official reveal" now is gonna be more in line with "yea? big deal".
I've caught up with the series so far, including RE0. But nice work, Capcom!
I watched this nice video the other day from a Brazilian youtuber sharing the evolution of the series, and how Capcom almost went bankrupt around the release of RE6; but they completely reinvented themselves for RE7, and then Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter: World and RE2. It's amazing to see what talented people can achieve when they put their minds in the right place.

They should stop promoting a half truth.
Re: Resident Evil Resistance Adds Playable Nemesis with Latest Update
To be honest, I never played it and I probably won't play it at all. I purchased RE3 for RE3, Resistance just happened to tag along.
I hope using Nemesis is fun for those enjoying Resistance, though. =)
Re: PlayStation Studios Animation Can Be Tailored to Certain Franchises
Nice touch. Marvel did it before, but I believe replicating a good idea is never a bad thing.

Re: Can You Name the PS4 Game from Just the Box Art?
6/10, not so bad considering I only buy digital games for years. I didn't know a few of the games too.

Well, I'll stick to my Switch and PS4 for the time being if this is what next-gen means...

I apologize, folks, but today I'll watch the live from PureXbox. =)

Re: New Crash Bandicoot, Tony Hawk Titles Expected in 2020
Tony Hawk used to mean fun couch co-op time with friends. Hopefully we can have more couch co-op high quality games in PS5.
Re: The Last of Us 2 Is Naughty Dog's 'Most Ambitious Game'
@Akurusu I stand by it, I believe it'll be genre-defining.

Re: Talking Point: What PlayStation Franchises Should Sony Bring Back on PS5?
They should bring back Twisted Metal.
And even though it's not up to Sony, they should finance new Harry Potter games similar to the 1-3 back on PS1 and PS2.
Re: Prince of Persia 6 Website Domain Registered by Ubisoft

Re: How Well Do You Know Your Assassin's Creed Protagonists?
@get2sammyb Last of Us might be a good topic given that Part II is almost here. Or maybe a challenging one on PS4-era prior to PS5 release.
Re: How Well Do You Know Your Assassin's Creed Protagonists?
7 out of 8, not bad. I didn't know Altair's year.
Great quiz, Push Square! Feel free to create a quiz of the week! =D

@Octane That's the worst part. When it comes to Art, ND is awesome; Management not so much...

As long as it plays as good as Zelda, I'm in.
@Octane @get2sammyb And by the way, Last of Us II has been delayed. Again.
Re: Guide: Best Resident Evil Games Ranked
Can't speak for RE3 yet, but I have a feeling it'll be a short, yet amazing game.
RE0 should get some more love though. It's right up there with RE1R in my opinion. It's a really good game. Also, RE2R is better than RE4.
Considering that I didn't play RE3R and RE7, my list so far would be:
1. RE2R
2. RE4
3. RE1R
4. RE0
5. RE5
6. RE6
And my bet is that this will be my list after playing them:
1. RE2R
2. RE7
3. RE4
4. RE3R
5. RE1R
6. RE0
7. RE5
8. RE6

@carlos82 That too. PS4's library feature is awful when it comes to organizing games.
Re: Soapbox: All I Want the PS5 to Do Is Track My Play Time Across Games
I like stats about my gaming habits. I dislike trophies. If they could split the two and display stats per game, it would be awesome!

Re: Poll: When Do You Expect Sony to Talk About the PS5 Next?
I'll expect announcements by November. Just to lower my expectations.
Re: Poll: So, Er, Was That PS5 Deep Dive Audience Real or Not?
Fake! They totally missed the chance to add characters such as Joel, Nate, Ellie and Aloy as the audience.
