Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Resident Evil Village?

RenanKJ

The first half until you beat Beneviento is awesome, the second half not so much, but still good. Couldn't understand why they went with 1st person perspective though, in parts it felt less like Resident Evil and more like Call of Duty with monsters.
Overall I still give it a 9 when I sum all the parts.

My ranking now goes:
1. Resident Evil 2
2. Resident Evil 3
3. Resident Evil Village
4. Resident Evil 7
5. Resident Evil 4 (pending remake)
6. Resident Evil Remake
7. Resident Evil 5 (pending remake)
8. Resident Evil 0
999. Resident Evil 6 (pending complete reboot)

Re: All DualSense PS5 Controller Colours

RenanKJ

I still don't get why so many people complain about the original black-and-white colors. They're perfect, match the console and look modern. No way I'm going back to all black controllers.

Re: When Will PS5 Exclusives Drop in Price on PS Store?

RenanKJ

Nintendo's policy towards discounts is the reason why I have 5 games on Nintendo Switch compared to 90+ on PlayStation. I hope Sony doesn't follow this same approach.
I managed to get Miles Morales and Sackboy already, but still waiting for a sale on Demon's Souls...
Btw, other publishers are offering sales and better prices already. I got Immortals, THPS upgrade, and RE Village with good prices (fortunately Capcom didn't raise the price).

Re: Official PlayStation App Racks Up 100 Million Installs on Mobile Devices

RenanKJ

@2cents Those two features actually work well for me, but the console must be in rest mode. I was in my girlfriend's apartment and installed a game remotely this weekend actually.

Edit: One thing that happens sometimes is that a blackout shutdowns the console while I'm out, and since it doesn't go back to rest mode once the energy is back, remote download requests don't work.

Re: All Resident Evil Games Ranked and Best Places to Start

RenanKJ

Nice recommendations! I totally understand the ranking, but I'd change the order a little.

The top 5 for me would be:
1. Resident Evil 2 Remake
2. Resident Evil 7
3. Resident Evil 3 Remake
4. Resident Evil 4
5. Resident Evil Remake

By the way, I loved RE3R! Its only issue for me was its short length, but I had a lot of fun with everything in it. Like some people commented before: it's often judged more for what it isn't than for what it is.

Re: Sony Backtracks PS3, PS Vita Online Store Closures

RenanKJ

Nice! I guess there aren't that many PS3 players out there compared to PS4 and PS5, but kudos for Sony for allowing them to keep playing and purchasing games.

That said, I have no clue why Sony would shut it in the first place. They really should offer all of their games forever, build their legacy. And you know, they can iterate on PlayStation Store and keep offering all the products released so far.

Re: PS5 Firmware Update Fixes Game Deletion Debris

RenanKJ

I've seen a few interesting improvements in this update so far. Not sure if they were there before, but I hadn't noticed yet.

  • We can see all the games that we follow in a list, and choose to unfollow them.
  • Games can be hidden in the library.
  • PS5 is no longer ignoring my attempts to boot it up if I put it in rest mode with any game open.

Re: Days Gone 2 Not Given the Greenlight, Sony Bend Working on Something New

RenanKJ

I haven't played Days Gone yet, but I remember thinking it had an identity issue when it was revealed. Up to the color tones, it reminded me too much of Last of Us.

I can understand Sony's decision to prefer new IP over sequel. That said, they're clearly talented, and I hope they continue to work as a separate studio instead of merging with ND. As great as ND is, they have a well-defined style in their games and their release cycle takes a long time...

Re: Soapbox: Why Do You Replay Games?

RenanKJ

Pretty much every year I end up replaying Kingdom Hearts series. That's 5 different games actually. And then Mario and Pokémon are also series I always go back to another run.

It doesn't really stop at gaming, though. I read the Harry Potter books 5 or 6 times already. I watched My Neighbor Totoro quite a few times since it's a childhood favorite of mine.

I guess some people enjoy repeating what's special to them, while others prefer to always experience something new.

Re: PS Store Discontinues Movie, TV Rentals and Purchases in August

RenanKJ

I haven't used this in two years, I think. I was going to start purchasing films digitally back then, but PS Store didn't have any films from my country so I only rented a few international films instead. But you know, for that we already have Google's service which is way more complete.

This article made me remember the old days of renting DVDs for some reason. I miss the extras that came with the discs, always fun to take a peek into the backstage.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About PS4 Exclusives Being Ported to PC?

RenanKJ

Much like anyone else, my concern is the reduced value of PlayStation as a platform in the long term.

That said, PC has an established business model of maintaining games available for purchase no matter how old they are, which works for me since PS4 has been my favorite console so far, and Sony is only starting with the "platform library" concept.

I also enjoy the fact that selling older exclusives to more gamers might enable a lower price tag in new releases or reduce the price faster.

Re: Soapbox: The State of Play Branding Seems Confused

RenanKJ

A little off-topic, but I wish Sony would create some sort of web show to share game development news. Think behind the scenes sort of videos. They certainly can't drop huge gaming news every now and then, which is why we don't have frequent State of Plays, but talks and insights from development studios could be done in a timely fashion - and they would be quite fun to watch.

Re: Soapbox: There's a Nintendo Direct Today, But I Wish We Had a State of Play to Look Forward To

RenanKJ

I'm fine with what we have, to be honest.

I mean, we know the games PlayStation Studios are working on, with a few coming this year. We just had the launch of PS5. Given the prices of new games, I didn't yet have the opportunity to purchase and play all the must have launch games. Resident Evil Village is right around the corner. And we all have a huge backlog of games to work with, not to mention the ones we want to replay (I'm looking at you, God of War).

Sony can take their time until the next State of Play IMO.

Re: Talking Point: What Content Do You Want from Push Square?

RenanKJ

I really like PushSquare as it is most of the time, so this comment is actually about what I'd like you folks to stop doing: placeholder Q&A articles. They have no content, just questions without answers. I do understand the need for clicks, but only post this kind of article if you have at least one answer to provide...

Apart from this, excellent work!

Re: PS Plus Subscriber Count Reaches an Impressive 47.4 Million

RenanKJ

Impressive numbers, but they're likely to decrease once more players get a PS5. Gotta say, though, PS+ is being quite strong this year!

Btw, Destruction All Stars will remain available for free until April 6th, so it's likely that it'll be a part of March's offerings as well.

Re: Poll: Do You Have a PS5?

RenanKJ

I got mine at launch, thankfully! It's crazy that scalpers are getting all the available consoles out there - even crazier that it would be as easy as not buying from them to stop scalpers, but people do buy from them...

I don't think the situation is going to get better until 2022. Once we have enough industries to produce vaccines to the entire world in a timely manner, then finding PS5s in stock will be easier.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Had the Biggest Digital Launch of Any Game Ever

RenanKJ

@ObserverGamez Not exactly the same, though. Capcom actually shared gameplay videos running on PlayStation and released a demo on PlayStation 5 that plays perfectly well.

CDPR lied all the way until release date. They knew that it played as awful as it did, but still did not share any gameplay videos for people to make an informed decision.

Re: Hands On: Resident Evil Village's Maiden Demo Is Short But Sweet

RenanKJ

@jmac1686 It's not really about feeling like it.

RE2 is a direct sequel to 1, yet it evolved the formula and brought new things to the table. Another example in a different series - Kingdom Hearts 2 is pretty much a direct sequel to Kingdom Hearts, but again it adds a lot to the "play and feel".

Don't get me wrong, I know RE Village is going to be great and innovate in many areas, and I'll get it day 1.

Just saying that this demo would feel at home as a demo to RE7 due to its gameplay IMO.

Re: Soapbox: I Can't Keep Up with Service Games

RenanKJ

I understand you, Sammy. I'm in a somewhat parallel scenario where I see all these events unfolding but I can't buy all the games together, specially at full price.

Honestly, for me the real issue is not the amount of events, but the fact that they all happen near launch day and too close to each other. In a matter of weeks, games go from season 1 to season 3 or 4. Seriously? Publishers should give it time. Think Netflix series, one season a year, and lots of series to watch. We manage to enjoy lots of series because of this approach.

It's just going too fast for adults to keep up. And I believe that nowadays adults are a major part of PlayStation, Xbox and PC audience.

Re: All PS5 Game Reviews

RenanKJ

My December game will be Demon's Souls. I wasn't certain at first, but PS5's social features sold the game for me. I watched my friend play Demon's Souls in Picture-in-Picture mode, while playing Miles Morales; so looking forward to playing it with him now.
