Re: PS5 Exclusive Ghost of Yotei Rockets Right to the Top of PS Store Pre-Order Charts

XanderTigerclaw

For anyone in the US who freaks out at the recent “omg $80+ for a game” convo… down under we’ve been enduring that for some time now.

Assuming the quoted $70 and $80 prices are USD, the Aussie exchange rate on that right now is roughly $108 and $124 respectively… however these editions are listed as $125 and $140 on the AU PS Store (that’s 16% and 12% increases there, or basically the magic USD80 and 90 numbers).

GoY is only one recent example of this; I could easily trawl the PS Store for stacks of (especially AAA title) examples where this pricing discrepancy is in place. Meanwhile, AUD125+ is not (and hasn’t for some time been) uncommon for a “deluxe edition” here, and often for the “standard edition” too.

Why these considerable markups for literally the same digital product just downloaded to a different locale?? 👀😕

Me, I’m just thrilled I can finally get an even more bargain price on such sleeper hits as “Feed My Raptor”, “The Perplexing Orb: Bounce Challenge”, “Waifu Impact 2”, “Bug-o-Buster”, “Santa’s Spot it”, “Slicy Flips”, “Poopy Time”, “Monkey Kong in New-York”, or (and I am not making this up either) “YEAH! YOU WANT ‘THOSE GAMES,’ RIGHT? SO HERE YOU GO! NOW, LET’S SEE YOU CLEAR THEM! 1+2” 🤪

Re: Death Stranding Celebrates 20 Million Players Milestone as PS5 Sequel Approaches

XanderTigerclaw

I’m one of those who invested heavily in Death Stranding and was in no way disappointed, found a depth to it that once I clicked with it just impacted me so deeply. The sold vs played argument doesn’t concern me, except to say I hope that most of the millions who did try it out also managed to discover and appreciate the emotional punches it held, all the beauty to be found in the mundane and arcane and insane. Really looking forward to the sequel.

I’ve never understood all the online vitriol against Part II… personally I found it compelling, emotional, true to the characters’ motivations, a top-notch work of pacing and action, and a very “just” ending (albeit painful to experience as the player) for the lead characters, who were all flawed in their own ways.

And besides the game itself, being “anti strong women” — physically, emotionally, however you read that really — is surely a patently ridiculous notion when you look at either history or storytelling right through societies (not just the “Western” ones either) as a whole. This isn’t an “agenda” thing, it’s just how the character was defined. Would the “offended” people have been happier had Abby been male? Why would that have made their drive and determination for blind revenge more believable or palatable?? To my mind, it’s quite the opposite — there’s more impact in Abby “becoming” the Abby, in Ellie “becoming” the Ellie, that we see by the final act of Part II because of how hardened they have become through their experiences (see also, arguably, Lara Croft across the Tomb Raider “reboot” trilogy from 2013–2018).

tl;dr loved Part I, loved Part II, and with the right story I’d love a Part III should it ever materialise.

Re: Sony Puts PS Plus Extra, Premium on Sale in the USA

XanderTigerclaw

Got an “Upgrade to Deluxe and save 35%” offer here today (Australia). Trying to stack a new year on top of my Extra subscription is still full price though.

If we actually had Premium here, not just the hamstrung Deluxe tier, I’d probably consider it. Come on, Sony… 😕

“We know from data that there are a lot of people that only play Call of Duty”

… I cannot even imagine a more unfulfilling gaming life experience than missing out on literally any other genre for the sake of solely existing in some generic ‘Murrica propaganda shooter series. 😅

(apologies to any “COD-only” players out there, but… jeez, try anything else sometime, wow) ✨

Re: Feature: Happy 30th Birthday to PlayStation

My first PlayStation was a PS2 Satin Silver, and my first PlayStation game was the exquisitely terrifying Silent Hill 3.

Fast forward 20 years and here I am in front of my PS5, finding myself summoning up the courage to finish my first playthrough of the exquisitely terrifying Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Some things never change… and I couldn’t be happier. Long Live Play, indeed. 😸🎮🌟

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Silent Hill 2?

XanderTigerclaw

An easy 9… 1 point off for a couple of technical/visual glitches like clipping that I’ve encountered running in Performance mode - that aside this remake is absolutely incredible, both familiar and fresh, and as someone who was a multiple repeat player of the original (and for whom the entire series holds a special place in my cold black heart) I couldn’t be more thrilled - and terrified - with what Bloober has created here; it’s absolutely brilliant to be back in town.
