Re: Video: Is Fallout 76 Worth Playing in 2024?

carlos82

I played a bit of Fallout 76 at launch and didn't like it as so many things were missing, not least NPC's, I've been tempted to give it another go recently.

I have been playing Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 4 but this time on PC, having previously platinumed 4 on PS4, where it was actually my most played single player game by some distance, as I got sucked into the settlement building.

Overall it's one of my favourite franchises and I love 3, NV and 4, all have different strengths and weaknesses

Re: Poll: How Much Do You Care About 60fps on PS5?

carlos82

I prefer 60 but am playing FFVII Rebirth at 30 as it looks awful in performance mode. I do feel developers should be aiming for 60fps on these consoles and in general I'll just buy a game on PC if console performance isn't good

Re: Older Live Service Titles Take Up Over 60% of Overall Playtime, Report Says

carlos82

It's no surprise really but that doesn't mean other games aren't being played and I doubt many have more than 1 or 2 live services in rotation, then inbetween play other games. What it does show, is how difficult it will be for new live service games to make a dent in the market, if you're invested heavily in one of these, then why would you change?

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About the PS5 Pro?

carlos82

From what I've seen so far I feel its an underwhelming upgrade. RT and upscaling should look better but I don't see it running games much better than the current PS5. My PC is still well beyond what the Pro will be, so it's pretty worthless to me, I'll save my money for Switch 2

Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 (PS5) - This Could Be the Apex of RPG Adventuring

carlos82

@ShogunRok I've never played the original but everything in this review makes it sound like a game for me. My pet peeve of open worlds is mission markers and being told where to go, so having one that is rewarding to explore and the journey is enjoyable is right up my street. I'll probably buy it on PC though where I can control the framerate.

One thing I've seen is things like a wall being broken so water could wash away and enemy and running into town chased by monsters and the towns folk take up arms. Is this emergent gameplay a regular thing throughout the game?

Re: PS5 Pro's Rumoured Spectral Super Resolution Tech Could Be Transformative

carlos82

As someone who bought the PS4 Pro, this time I'll be sticking with the base PS5. I've seen nothing to suggest it'll be anything more than a modest upgrade and I already have a PC that's still far ahead of what the Pro will be.

On base PS5, the only game I feel that needed a bit more power to run is FFVII and everything else looks great

Re: Sony Allegedly Pausing PSVR2 Production Due to Surplus of Unsold Stock

carlos82

I really loved playing GT7 on this but it's been clear for quite some time this is dead in the water. Sales have been sluggish since the start and Sony's own lack of support hasn't helped. It's a cool piece of hardware and has some fun games but I've already sold mine.

Fun fact, Nintendo developed 4 games for it's Virtual Boy, so far Sony has made one for PSVR2

Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Is Up to Three Times Faster Than PS5 as Specs Surface

carlos82

@MrMagic well that's fine but I'm just saying it in regards to gauging performance between the PS5 and Pro. RDNA3 uses dual issue compute to come up with that number, so that the 16.17 tflop RDNA 2 RX6800 has the same performance as the 35.17 tflop RDNA3 7700xt. Oh and the 29.77 tflop 3080 outperforms both by nearly 20%

Tflops are a terrible way to measure cards between architectures

Re: Exclusivity Is the Achilles' Heel of Huge Blockbusters, Says Former PlayStation Exec

carlos82

There are plenty who are opposed to the end of exclusivity but the reality is with these ever expanding budgets and development times, it is something that simply is unsustainable.

People keep saying these games wouldn't be made without exclusivity but if for example Sony thinks they can sell an extra 10 to 15 million copies of Spider-Man 3 if it launched elsewhere as well as PS5, then of course they'll make the game.

Of course there is a balance but it's painfully obvious that the margins on the current business model are shrinking

Re: Japan Sales Charts: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Tops, But Doesn't Even Come Close to Remake

carlos82

@ShogunRok I wonder if it's the reported length of the game or many like myself who enjoyed Remake but weren't blown away by it as it kind of dragged on and may be put off. Or perhaps the lacklustre visuals in the demo, or even an indication of many have nostalgia for Midgar as the opening part of the original game but many may not have actually finished it.

For me its just there are too many games at the moment and coming off the back of Like A Dragon I don't want to commit to another big game yet and then there's Dragons Dogma soon

Re: Sony Secures Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy as PlayStation Console Exclusives

carlos82

At this point I never expected it to be on Xbox anyway, Remake is already a few years old and on PC, so of it was going to Xbox it would have already happened.

Playstation originally built its brand upon 3rd party exclusives and given how long development times have increased, it makes sense to try again, whether that's good for gamers or the games themselves is up for debate.

It's funny to think that I started with PS1 playing Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy VII and Tekken and now these are still the games I've been playing most on PS5 over the last 12 months with their latest entries
