Re: Rumour: Concord Cost $400 Million, Sony Believed It Was the 'Future of PlayStation'

carlos82

I mean, the studio employs 150 people, so unless they pay them all 500K a year then I'm not sure what they spent the money on 😂

Also Sony didn't even buy them until last year so where did this independent studio get all the money from in the first place?

The acquisition was undisclosed, so if it cost $300 million and then the game cost $100 million to develop, then you could say it cost Sony $400 million but I highly doubt the game itself cost that

Re: Retro PS2 TimeSplitters Titles Outperform PS5, PC Flop Concord in UK Charts

carlos82

"One other tidbit worth noting is that an enormous 75% of the games sold in the UK this August were purchased digitally"

It's also a very quiet time for new releases, it's no secret that people pick up cheap games in sales digitally. The data that is relevant is what are the sales splits of games in and around release

When the day comes where the Playstation store is the only option to buy your games, that won't be a good time for gamers

Re: Reaction: Why There Are So Many Unnecessary PS5 Remasters for Games That Don't Need Them

carlos82

It's just getting silly at this point, I understand Nintendo as those games don't run on Switch, though the pricing is utterly ridiculous. For Sony though I think it's just a huge waste of time as every single one already runs at 60fps and usually 4K on the PS5.

If they're going to remaster games then why not the likes of Infamous, Resistance, that Uncharted game on Vita, Jak & Daxter? Something like that, not games that already look and play great as they are

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Huge PS5 Pro Enhancements Are a 'Vast Improvement'

carlos82

@TheFakulty In the reveal they showed The Last of Us, Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank at fidelity settings running at 60fps (well Cerny said almost fidelity settings) but it was certainly higher settings than performance mode as well as a higher resolution.

But people do need to keep their expectations in check as the new GPU isn't that much more powerful, only something like a 45% uplift (PS4 Pro was more than double PS4), with PSSR doing much of the heavy lifting

Overall they didn't do a great job in showing off what it can do

Re: Suda 51 Says 'Everyone Cares Too Much About Metacritic Scores'

carlos82

I couldn't care less about metacritic, if it wasn't for Twitter, I'd never hear about what scores games get and it has no bearing on my game purchases.

These days, I already know what games I'm going to play long before they come out as I know what I'm likely to enjoy. Sure I'll check out the odd review for games I'm unfamiliar with but it's the written part that is important to me, not the number at the end and the less said about the user scores on there, the better

Re: Sony Boss Says 'PCs Are Difficult to Set Up', Firm Will Focus on PS5

carlos82

Yeah its incredibly difficult to setup a PC 🙄

Mine is hooked up to a monitor and my living room TV and it's very easy for me to play games on either and things like Steam are very simple to use and I'd argue better than any console store

Sure consoles are largely plug and play but even they aren't quite as simple as they used to be. I remember having lots of issues with PS5 and having to work out how to upgrade games and it constantly trying to install PS4 versions of games I had the disc for, plus there's that nonsense "other" which eats up your hard drive space. Oh and the fiasco of not being able to buy games on sale because you have PS Plus.

These days I play more on PC amd have no more issues than I do on console all whilst benefiting from an enormous amount of games that aren't available on consoles

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Astro Bot?

carlos82

9/10, a fantastic game that for me ditches it's best ideas too quickly, (I'm looking at you mouse power up) and isn't quite up there with a certain plumber.

That said, it's the best game I've played this year and the most fun I've had on PS5, with some outstanding levels and great use of other IP.

More of these please

Re: 'It Makes Sense Why the PS5 Pro Price Is So High,' Say Tech Experts

carlos82

@Sergo the issue isn't so much just this PS5 Pro but as much what comes afterwards, you'd have to imagine the PS5 successor costs even more than the Pro does and likely won't use physical media as standard. Leaving consumers locked into whatever Sony wants to charge for games as they don't even sell digital codes outside of their store anymore

Re: 'It Makes Sense Why the PS5 Pro Price Is So High,' Say Tech Experts

carlos82

It's nearly double the price of its current equivalent model whilst using the same CPU, RAM, has a slightly bigger GPU (only marginally bigger than Series X's by the way) and some form of AI chip, oh and a bigger SSD.

Should it cost more than the standard PS5, of course but nearly double? Come off it

But on the slight chance they are correct, then the console market is finished as the masses will not pay this much going forward

Re: Talking Point: Is PS5 Pro Way Too Expensive?

carlos82

The whole point of console gaming is that it's meant to be the cheaper option but at this price point I really fear for the future. How much will a PS6 be? Will it even have a disc drive?

I have a high end PC and a lot of the time the games don't look much different on that. We've long since passed the point of diminishing returns, with huge jumps in GPU power needed for relatively minor visual gains.

The most fun I've had with a new game this year is Astro Bot and the Pro will in no way make that game any better.

Had it been around £600 with a disc drive, I could understand but basically £800, as @ShogunRok says, they're taking the piss

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS5 Pro?

carlos82

You're joking right?

Still has fairly mediocre RT capabilities and best case scenario is just having fidelity modes at 60fps, all for EIGHT HUNDRED POUNDS if you want a disc drive (vertical stand sold separately)

Re: PS5 Pro Announced, Costs $700 and Out in November

carlos82

What an absolute joke, a hugely underwhelming presentation even though I suspected it's improvements would be fairly modest, but that price is laughable and it doesn't even have a disc drive.

So just the £800 to play physical games and watch blu-ray's 😂😂😂

Re: Sony: It's Massively Important PS Studios Develops Games in Various Genres

carlos82

It was the variety of games (from everyone and Sony) that brought me into playing PlayStation with the PS1 between the likes of Ridge racer, Tekken, Crash, MediEvil, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Ape Escape, Resident Evil and many more. Astro Bot is a wonderful game that is a joyous celebration of PlayStation's history and gaming in general with nods to others such as Nintendo.

Re: Astro Bot (PS5) - One of the Greatest PlayStation Platformers of All Time

carlos82

I've already got this installed and just waiting for tomorrow. This is the first PS exclusive I've been excited to play for a couple of years as I absolutely loved the PSVR game and the free PS5 game.

This is the kind of game that reminds me why I have this hobby and whilst I've had to rely on Nintendo for such a long time for these kinds of games, it's great to see Sony with Ratchet and Clank and now this

Re: Star Wars Outlaws, XDefiant Disappointments Pour Pain on Ubisoft's Share Prices

carlos82

I think in general we are just heading towards people spending less and less on new games, sure there will still be outliers but it seems to be a common theme now of big releases not hitting sales targets alongside some huge flops.

These days where are more options to play, whether that be subscriptions or simply waiting for the inevitable sales and we've all likely now got huge libraries of games that we can simply go back to, all whilst new games themselves haven't really evolved since the late PS3 generation
