@themightyant I agree, PSSR will greatly improve over time as it's utilised more. For now devs should just really leave in the base PS5 graphics options as well to avoid these issues.
Though somewhat ironically, all the games with good implementations have left the base PS5 options in, even though you won't use them and all those with bad patches have removed them. It's almost like one set of devs want you to see how good their work is and the others really don't want you to compare them 😆
This looks fantastic, I've not played Aquanaut's Holiday but was a big fan of Endless Ocean on the Wii and this is right up my street. I've had a lot of fun with Kayak VR and am often sticking my head under water to see what's there
About time and looking for Dino Crisis, I noticed some weirdness with the Playstation store, Dino Crisis isn't in the PS1 section and nor are the Blood Omen games in their respective console catalogues
I've not seen any real excitement for this game and with all due respect, Horizon doesn't have anywhere near the appeal of Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Batman etc that Lego games are usually attached to. I mean, I really enjoy playing the Horizon games but barely have any interest in Aloy and the other characters and have no desire to play Lego Horizon
@get2sammyb it's so frustrating when all they have to do is allow Pro users access the base PS5 graphics options, whilst they fix the true Pro mode. It's ironic that all the games with great upgrades allow you to choose the original options, even though you'd never want to but the few games which are poor on Pro don't allow this
@GymratAmarillo yeah I'm talking about existing arcade sticks, many of which work on multiple platforms but Sony don't allow PS4 controllers to work on PS5 games for no good reason. Thankfully for wheels, they do actually allow them but stick users are out of luck and either need a 3rd party adapter or waste a lot of money on a new stick
@Danloki I think it's one of those where we've been playing in native 4K for some years now that it's pretty noticable when it's dropped to accommodate RT. At 60fps I suspect that the prioritise framerate is likely higher res than the RT/res mode given the RT in races now
@Danloki yeah I've just gone back to 60hz for some more testing. At 60hz PSSR is a weird one, on track I think it looks better overall turned on, as it removes aliasing and shimmering isn't a big deal most of the time, it just seems to be the odd car which can stick out. In the showrooms it does make the game look much worse but you don't really spend much time there.
Playing at 120 just turn PSSR off as it just makes the game look a bit worse all round
@Danloki I tried all the configurations, RT mode, framerate mode 120hz on and off but at the moment I'm playing at 120hz RT/resolution (though it doesn't have RT in races at 120)
The Game Awards are a bit of a joke, nominating dlc over the likes of Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth or Tekken 8 or the farce that Arizona Sunshine is nominated in the VR category over Resident Evil 4 when it's not even in the same ballpark
These awards have always been a bit silly but I feel they don't even matter anymore
@Danloki yeah I turned PSSR off, some cars like the new Cosworth look awful with it on but others not so bad. Also RT reflections in race only work with 120hz turned off, so at 120 all PSSR is doing is making the game look worse for no reason and I don't feel the reflections are worth it in this kind of game.
Thing is, in The Last of Us 2 PSSR makes the game look much better than normal, so I'm curious as to why it's not playing nice with these other games
@themightyant yeah exactly, I'm playing the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes and their RT modes now lock to 60fps, giving me an automatic upgrade over the base PS5.
For Cyberpunk, I suspect it's as much that they're moving away from the Red Engine, so wouldn't even be much use as a learning experience
I'm baffled as to why it wasn't supported at launch, surely that's a major purpose of such a device and actually opens it up to none PS5 owners as well.
I have seen the Portal in action and was really impressed by it but it does have one fatal flaw, it doesn't support multiple users, making it kind of useless for me
Personally I felt Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth was a better game than FFVII Rebirth, it had a brilliant combat system and lots of engaging side content, the job system was pretty clever too.
From these I'd go with Astro Bot, a great platformer that I just wish used its own ideas a bit more instead of leaning a bit too much upon other ip
@OmegaStriver yeah for me it's been nothing but a big upgrade. I've been playing The Last of Us Part 2, FFVII Rebirth, Horizon Zero Dawn and today RE2 in its RT mode and every single one of them is a noticable or huge upgrade.
Of those games struggling, most of them have already performed badly on every platform they released on, so I certainly wouldn't be using them as being representative of the hardware
The irony here seems to be is that the games where the Pro support is a big upgrade, such as FFVII, TLOU2 and Insomniac games, they all either have the previous options or equivalents when there is no need to go back.
Luckily for me, every game I'm playing has been a tangible or huge upgrade over the base PS5 but the simple fact is that no developers should be releasing patches where the game looks worse on the more powerful console in the first place.
This is still on the developers, if PSSR is having issues upscaling from such a low resolution, then the devs themselves can see this, so why implement it?
All this proves is what we've seen for years, in that no hardware can overcome devs doing a mediocre job, or seemingly Unreal engines constant issues
Robocop Rogue City, I played this back at launch on the PC and it was my GOTY, now replaying on the PS5 Pro as I go for its easy platinum. On the Pro it certainly still has issues in a few spots, most notably the big robot fight in the old factory. Still great fun though
When I'm done with that, I'll be continuing my replay of The Last of Us Part 2 and Shadow Generations, whilst also playing a bit of GTA 3 and Vice City now that it finally looks and plays pretty well
Over the last couple of years I'd started to buy more of my games on PC as I wasn't happy with either the image quality or performance of the PS5 version, games such as Resident Evil 4.
From what I've played so far, the Pro has solved these issues and now RE4 looks and runs great, TLOU2 looks noticably better, the RE2 Remake now runs at 60fps in its RT mode, Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet look amazingly sharp and going forward I'll now be playing much more on the PS5 Pro than PC. So personally I'm very happy with the system
Maybe they are doing this so they can sell these awful skins to those who want them, then for everyone else, they'll sell you an option for you to be able to turn them off and not see them
@Rich33 yeah it got a patch just over a week ago, it's a bit confusing as there's seemingly no information about it but the game does look noticably better than when I last played on PS5 and the framerate is unlocked, with it now able to go well above 60fps
Personally I don't feel they should put the PS5 Pro enhanced label on any game until it receives it's patch. It's annoying to see games like Silent Hill 2 saying its Pro enhanced when it clearly isn't and it just means that I'm not playing those games for the time being.
It's even more confusing when some games that have been patched, don't specifically mention the Pro in their options, so how is the average consumer meant to know what's going on?
@DonJorginho yeah it's not like the PS5 launched at a higher price than the PS4 Pro did 🙄
The unfortunate reality is that the PS5and Xbox consoles have a higher RRP today than 4 years ago at launch. This has never happened before and I'll be stunned if the PS6 is actually cheaper than the PS5 Pro
@SJBUK I might jump back on VR2 if it gets some nice updates, I've heard good things about that Kayak game and it'd be awesome if GT7 supported higher framerates, as at the moment it's just 60fps native and reprojection to 120 with very obvious ghosting.
But yeah VRR is a literal game changer, removing the need for games to hit a locked 60fps and then anything above that just improving the experience further
@Jrs1 I'm not sure I'd say just as good, OLED has better black levels and motion clarity, I've just moved from a Samsung QLED to their OLED and it looks quite a bit better.
For brightness generally yes they are brighter but new Samsung OLED is very bright and I'd say, at least as bright as my old TV
@themightyant yeah for me the Pro is worth it for the improved image quality (not necessarily settings) and yes the framerate. Even Digital Foundry are struggling with the latter due to the nature of recording VRR and by and large they are differences you kind of have to see in person.
For anyone looking at the Pro, I'd suggest a good OLED VRR display is a must to truly take advantage of it and overall I'm very happy with the results.
Resident Evil 2 in its RT mode now locks to 60fps or 120 with it off, GT7 is glorious at 4K 120fps, TLOU2 looks razor sharp and runs around 80fps, with Spider-Man 2 around 50 odd fps (60 doesnt matter with VRR) in its fidelity Pro mode
@Darude84 yeah that is an odd question, there's no reason whatsoever to buy the slim if you have the original, you're literally just throwing money away at that point
I tried this out earlier and the lighting at certain times of day is much better and more reminiscent of the PS2 originals. Overall I'd say they are a good way to play these games now, of course they should have done a much better job in the first place
Resident Evil 2 is one of my all time favourite games and it can be beaten in less than 2 hours, yet I've spent 100's of hours replaying it over the years. Even the Yakuza series itself, Gaiden is one of my favourite entries and it's the shortest.
There are some longer games that I really like but it's not the length that has ever been the selling point and I'd also say that too many games today make the mistake of being a bit too long. Give me a nice 10 to 15 hour action game over anything bloated to over 100 hours all day long

@Weebleman haha, no not yet. When it does it's for RT reflections on the cars but I hope we'll still be able to access this high framerate mode as well
