Re: Gran Turismo 7 Will Experiment with 8K, 60fps on PS5 Pro

eagletrippin

@RubyCarbuncle 3600 USD at the time (2019). This was after my OLED got burn in and I vowed to never buy the tech again. Ironically, I got an OLED in 2022 and it has been fantastic โ€” the tech has truly matured and is far more reliable now. Samsung, on the other hand โ€” I will never buy another one...

@MasterChiefWiggum You can keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better about not upgrading your display.
But as a (primarily) PC gamer, the differences are pretty obvious. I pretty frequently switch resolutions to weigh the image quality vs. performance dilemma. And if you can't see the difference between 1080p and 4k, you may need to make an appointment to a optometrist. Heck, even 1440p I can see a difference in that it is slightly softer image. Once you get into the 1728p and 1800p's then it starts getting indistinguishable. (Mind you, I'm speaking only on non-upscaled images.)

Re: New PS5 Pro Leak Points to Significant Graphics Push from Sony

eagletrippin

I'm a Pass, but I've also kind of switched to high-end gaming PC's. But even if I was still PS exclusive, it's possible I wouldn't upgrade, anyway. With the PS4 Pro, you had the major technological bump from 1080p, to 1440p and 4K (upscaled). Also, so many PS4 games that were 30fps or less heavily benefited from the power bump. Not to mention PSVR...
PS5 games already look great (of course, you can always get better), and so many of them are already optimized to run at 60fps (let alone 30), and even 120fps. I don't think I would drop another $500 for the mid-gen upgrade โ€” I'd prefer to just wait a full generation until PS6. Hopefully this won't hurt Sony financially, as they typically won't start making money on the consoles until a good 2-3 years after they release...

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About the PS5 Pro?

eagletrippin

I've moved onto pc gaming last year, but as a Day 1 PS4 Pro and PS5 adopter, this seems to be excessive & unnecessary. There's only 3, maybe 4 more years left in this generation/life cycle, and by that time they will be asking people to jump on PS6? They are treating consoles like cell phones, to be replaced every few years...

Re: Best 4K TVs for PS5 in 2024

@themightyant Agree 100%! It actually really bothers me that they still put out what I consider to be misinformation about burn-in. You & I were basically in the same exact scenarios, but I had a B6 with burn-in, and I went with the 8K Q900R. But as I said, that sammy died on me a month ago, and I even tried a used One Connect Box from eBay, and then new OEM parts (PBC board and power supply board) for the One Connect โ€” neither worked. Authorized repair shop wanted $1100, and I said screw it, I am officially done with Samsung. That TV was supposed to be my "forever" TV, or more like my 10-year-ish TV, but not even close. (less than 3.5 years)๐Ÿ‘ŽI bought it after the B6 got burn-in, and my first 2 calls for a free replacement were denied. A couple weeks later i said What the heck, I'll try again, and this time they fixed my B6 for free. So, LG kind of made good with me on that.

I will say though, I do believe burn-in prevention has improved greatly since the early OLED's, and the tech itself has matured. Also, I've learned from my own usage experiences of the past (even though I did nothing egregious or "abusive" the 1st time around). I never wanted to go back to having to "babysit" a TV and handling it with kid gloves again, which was why I denied OLED for many years. But that has totally not been the case with my C1. My B6 got burn-in 20 months into ownership, and it was severe. But I've had my C1 for 22-23 months now, I use it as my PS5 & PC display, and not even a hint of even image retention, let alone burn-in.๐Ÿคž
Anyways, I'm long-winded again. I hope your Q90R keeps kickin' butt for many years to comeโœŠ๐Ÿ’ช

@Titntin ๐ŸปFair! Yeah to be honest, I rarely have to get into the WebOS, since it's primarily just a PC monitor, unless switch inputs and power on the PS5 But yes it is pretty clunky, and I can do without the stupid gyro pointer.

I bet the A95L would be amazing. I owned the X95J (2022) briefly, and really liked it alot. This was during my "OLED burn-in, never again" phase when I refused to consider another one. It got sufficiently bright in my upstairs loft, which gets sun-drenched. I returned it, though, in favor of the C1 โ€” it just felt like I was missing the "punch" that an OLED and its deep blacks were giving me. Once I put on Returnal, I could see the difference in dark areas. That said, it was my favorite QLED, by far๐Ÿ‘ P.S., one thing I've learned about regarding all the "nits" talk is, a TV could output twice as many nits as another comparable TV, but that doesn't mean it will get twice as bright โ€” at least your eyes won't be able to perceive it that way. So definitely a couple hundreds nits here or there won't be so noticeable. I'd focus more on the picture quality.

And, you know how it goes โ€” You can never get everything in a TV set๐Ÿ˜ (unless money is no object)
Congrats on that sound system!!! I need to chill as well, I've spent pretty stupid money on a PC build & simracing equipment in the last 4 months๐Ÿ™ƒ

Re: Best 4K TVs for PS5 in 2024

@Titntin I agree. I tend to get my buying advice from channels like Vincent at HDTVTest, AVForums, Digital Trends, and rtings. (I'm kind of Meh on rtings, as they ignored many of our complaints of horrendous blooming on their QLED's and refused to re-test & update their reviews). But those are good starting points, to me, when I begin my TV search...

RE: LG autodimming, it is certainly annoying. I use it as my PC gaming & PS5 monitor as well. But I don't think I would write it off as a good tv buy just because of it. It never kicks in during any kind of gaming, just on occasional web browsing or while working on documents. And as you alluded to, there is a workaround, albeit one that could void your warranty, but that's only a year-long anyway. If I had to guess, the original OLED's (like my B6) were prone to horrible burn-in, so this aggressive autodimming is LG's way of (over)correcting to prevent or slow down burn-in. OLED is certainly not a risk-free technology, I don't care how many people are claiming burn-in is not a concern...

Re: Best 4K TVs for PS5 in 2024

  • Just had a high-end Samsung Q900R die on me last month after only 3.5 years --- done with Samsung, forever.
  • LOVE my LG C1, best picture quality of any TV I've ever owned โ€” and I've owned like 6 TV's in the past 6 years (some were returned), so I have been able to try out/test a lot of different TV's. (Also, my original B6 got severe burn-in, only 1.5 years in & after warranty, and LG replaced the panel at no cost โ€” granted, it took multiple complaints/phone calls.)
  • And the Hisense U7 is a great replacement for my Samsung debacle, and is very good quality midrange set...

@Mikey856 lol. Of course you would, you lemming. Affording it isn't an issue โ€” I'm a high-end PC gamer โ€” it's the principle. And, on sale, for 50???๐Ÿคฃ Apparently, you wouldn't do very well at running a business, either, you schmuck๐Ÿคฃ

@47AlphaTango "There are microtransactions galore, ยฃ3 for a pair of digital trainers, really?"
Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the microtransactions in this game only for aesthetic purchases (gear, clothes, liveries, etc.)?๐Ÿค”
I am as anti-microtransactions as the next guy, but as long as game developers restrict it to aesthetic upgrades only, and keep it out of player skill upgrades & pay-to-win schemes, then I feel that is a fair compromise ...

Re: Madden NFL 24 Makes Players More Anatomically Accurate on PS5, Revives Superstar Mode

eagletrippin

Looks the same, the "new anatomically accurate player skeletons" make no difference. The only difference I see is the shoulder pads move more like equipment rather than just an extension of their body. The only thing I liked what I saw was some players have their undershirts untucked under their jerseys โ€” I nice realistic touch. But the player models still bend weirdly at the knees, and also, who in the NFL is still wearing knee pads?????? Heads/helmets are also still too small in relation to the rest of their body.

Doubt much of anything else has changed either, as usual. Another pass.

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for June 2023 Announced

I don't care for current day basketball. But as an extreme Michael Jordan & 90's Bulls fan, NBA2k23 is a dream come true. I can make the game look & play like it did back when. The sandbox here is a dream come true for fans of that era...or other eras of the NBA.

Re: Xbox Boss Admits Microsoft Can't 'Outconsole' PS5

eagletrippin

Ya just hate to see it.

It's ALL about the games, Phil. That said, his admission comes as a surprise, but it's obvious what they have been trying to do since the One X: Brute force their games with the highest-spec'd hardware just to be able to say "Our 3rd party games offer a few more pixels than on Sony's machine!"

FAIL. Microsoft consoles & hardware hardly push the medium forward. Iterative; not innovative. Let's just roll out the same controllers from the last 2 gen's then call it a day ...
