Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 405

Just finished Psychonauts 2, a great title to share both milestones of 5000th trophy and 50th Platinum, miss it already.

So in lieu of any better ideas I'm back on Detroit: Become Human, for my 4th attempt at starting the game and trying to save the hostage.
I hope it clicks this time, I really loved Beyond: Two Souls, but hated Heavy Rain.

@Halucigens
That is unfortunate.
Are they offering the choice to switch platforms or refunds to Wii U backers?
Edit: Sorry, just interpreted that as they weren't releasing a Wii U version.
If they have blocked all other versions other than PlayStation then that's even worse than Microsoft with Psychonauts 2 and is pretty scummy.
I would have thought there'd be legal implications to failing to honour the original contact with supporters.

You kinda need things like that, their loss is offset by profits from triple A games and then the best parts get integrated by the next generation of triple A games.
I suppose a sideways analogy in music would be bands or individuals who make groundbreaking music that push boundaries and don't sell well, but are kept on because they then help create the next generation of artists who take the ideas and make them more sellable.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Your PS Plus Games for September 2021?

@jokkp
I've no interest in the games, there's no sense in clogging up the library with them.
Plus it's a message, Sony will have stats on people like myself who have not only refused to download or add them, but have also turned off the auto renew.
I don't play online, have zero need of the cloud saves or plus related discounts and only subscribe for the games.
The games are not free, and if they're not up to a good enough standard then a message needs to be sent.

Re: PS Now Adding Five Final Fantasy Games Over Coming Months

@Milktastrophe
I don't necessarily disagree with you, at least the first part. But they worked faster in the old days because they'd bring the ideas in front of Sakaguchi and he was a powerful enough voice (for better or worse) to make a definitive decision and then they'd move on.
That's what has been their problem for years, and is documented.
Tetsuya Nomura was useful in pushing FFVII to another level, but since then he has become the antithesis of Sakaguchi, making fleeting decisions and reversing them based on popular culture, similar to heads of western studios ( FFXIII becoming a musical after watching Les Miserables for example)
Edit - I get your point about the transition to voice acting in FFX, though, it's understandable they might have lost a lot of story driven dialogue during that.

Re: PS Now Adding Five Final Fantasy Games Over Coming Months

@Milktastrophe
Hmm...I disagree, FFX was impressive but it sacrificed freedom which was a large part of the appeal of the earlier games, but X-2 was awful, an example of Square changing to please journalists and demographics who had badly reviewed/played FFX who didn't even like the genre.
In terms of an FF sequel even Revenant Wings was better.
VII, VIII, XI and earlier iterations were done with a year or so between them. Unfortunately since then they've been chasing the whole photo realistic high budget format
Which isn't necessary a bad thing but they could release more story/character driven mainline entries that aren't quite as high budget, if well done they'd still hold up the franchise and sell well.

I'm all for more people getting to experience Final Fantasy on whatever platform or service they use, but I really miss the days of almost daily announcements and a game every year or two. Ever since Sakaguchi left/was fired they seem to have dragged their feet on decisions that weren't necessarily much better than his bad ones.
