Re: Key Sony Exec Gives Eye-Opening Quotes on the Future of PlayStation and Gaming

B_Lindz

YEEEEEEEES!! This is what I've wanted Sony to do, but I gave up on that dream since they said they only wanted to create "blockbuster" video games. Some of my favorite stories and experiences I have ever experienced in video games weren't photorealistic. Celeste, Persona 5, Nier: Automata, Journey, and The Legend of Zelda are some of my favorite games, but none of them had or even needed the budget Sony blockbuster games have. Hopefully, this also means shorter development times.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Reveal Trailer Is Already the Most Disliked in Series History

So, I went and read the comments on the game trailer, and, boy-howdy, there are A LOT of pissed off Japanese people. The main complaint from Japanese people is that they feel Ubisoft is tackling cultural appropriation with more cultural appropriation. The art, clothing, customs, etiquette, and architecture are apparently waaaaaaay off the mark in terms of having any historical accuracy.

It seems gone are the days of in-game Notre Dame being so accurate that they can use it to repair the real Notre Dame.

I have no desire to play any AC games, including this one, but I did just read up on Yasuke. He sound like pretty intriguing person, so kudos to Ubisoft for wanting to tell a story about him. We don't really know much about him historically, so his story has already become a mythological in nature, which I think would align him perfectly for this role in a fictional video game. I think this was a smart move on Ubisoft's part, because it they told the story of some anonymous Japanese samurai then it probably wouldn't stand out as much from Ghost of Tsushima, which people are going to inevitably draw comparisons to this new AC game.

Re: Helldivers 2 PSN Requirement Backtracked on PC After Brutal Review Bombing Campaign

B_Lindz

It makes me sad that the PC community had to go to these lengths for Sony to notice, but that means there are now 170 countries that were about to be barred from being able to play HD2 that can now keep playing. That, in my opinion, is a massive win. Gamers in third-world countries should be allowed to play. It brings the whole gaming community together across all nation lines.

Re: Sony Doubles Down on Helldivers 2 PSN Requirement by Taking It Off Sale for PC in Numerous Countries

B_Lindz

This has to be one of the the most bat-s*** crazy moves I've seen from Sony. This was easily their most successful game in years, and they're choosing to tear the game out of the hands of people that already gave them money to play it. This move is going to go from people boycotting the game to outright boycotting Sony and their games. Stunts like this reassure my decision to buy my games exclusively through Steam and the Nintendo eShop, and not even think about buying the PS5 Pro or the PS6.

Re: Helldivers 2 PC Is Getting Review Bombed Over PSN Requirement

B_Lindz

I would say this isn't a big deal, except that this move is going to bar anyone living in countries that can't access PSN from being able to play the game, even if they already purchased it.

Looking at the Steam review scores taking an absolute nose-dive off a cliff, I can't believe how badly Sony just s*** the bed with this move. Easily their most successful game in years, and they still managed to screw it up.

Re: Despite Hype, Analyst Says Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth 'Underperforming'

B_Lindz

This comment section is interesting because it's a bit of an echo chamber. I mean, it makes sense that FF fans would click on this article on a PlayStation-specific news outlet and comment on it. Many people here are upset because the number of sale doesn't match up with their experience. Sadly, this comment section is a really small demographic, and the market as a whole doesn't interact with these articles, let alone spend $70 on a game they may not be interested in. An average outsider that own a PS5 could look at FF7 Rebirth and think, "I've never played an FF game," or "I didn't play the first FF7 game." Judging by these sales numbers, these two types of consumers are coming to the same conclusion, "This game isn't for me."

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About the PS5 Pro?

B_Lindz

I remember when I first booted up The Last of Us Part 2 on the PS4 and thought, "Wow. This is the best-looking game I have ever seen." It was like seeing a miracle watching my PS4 run that game. By the end of the night, my room would be so hot because the PS4 was spitting so much heat out the back, but it ran beautifully. It pushed that little guy to its absolute limits.

Nothing I have played on the PS5 has even come close to that experience, where I thought my PS5 would explode trying to run something. We don't need a Pro console, we need exclusive games and better optimization.

Re: Japan Sales Charts: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PS5 Sales Slip 91% at Retail

B_Lindz

My theory of why Rebirth isn't selling as well is that it's a sequel that requires you to have played the previous entries. This isn't always a big deal, except that these games are MASSIVE. Plus, many of the references and nuances of the game only make sense if you played the original FF7. For me, I understand that Rebirth is one of the highest-rated games of the year and will likely be nominated for GOTY, but I've never played an FF7 game before. I feel like I can't hop into Rebirth, so I'm one of those people who would love to play this, but I have no intentions of picking it up. I don't have that kind of time anymore.

Re: Mini Review: The Cub (PS5) - Short Platformer Oozes Style

B_Lindz

How is "less than 3 hours long" a con? Limbo and INSIDE are both less than 3 hours, and those games are basically perfect. I'm not saying this game is perfect, but I'm getting pretty tired of the only games that get 9/10 or 10/10 on this website, i.e. 20+ hour long third-person action games.

Re: The Last of Us Multiplayer Project Is Officially Cancelled

B_Lindz

@twitchtvpat Of course I'm not celebrating people losing their jobs. I hate that the awful business decisions of higher-ups and investors are destroying the lives of thousands of employees. I'm grateful that the game industry is shifting away from games-as-a-service. The reality is that if these greedy CEOs and stakeholders would take a pay cut to keep and pay their employees then most of the layoffs from this year wouldn't have happened.

Re: The Last of Us Multiplayer Project Is Officially Cancelled

I am so grateful that Sony's plan to focus on live-service games is flopping. Sony and their community needed this to flop. The game industry at large needs this push for live-service games to flop. Live-service games cannot, and should not succeed over focused, creative single-player experiences. I know there are a lot of people who play multiplayer games that will be sad about this, but I am so grateful that Sony and their studios are backing away from this gaming model.
