I'm guessing it will still be a long game. I like the huge AC rpg titles but I'm sure that some of that old school crowd will complain about the 50ish hour (or more) playtime to beat the main story.
That xbox show was an all timer. I understand the sentiment of these online posters because it was well ahead of the other shows this "e3 season." That said I don't think sony needs to focus too heavily on competing with them on showcases. They are doing fine with their current course.
@TrickyDicky99 the exclusives didn't do much for the wii u era. The gamecube era was pretty bad too, some of the best games they ever made but on a poorly performing platform.
This sounds leaps and bounds better than the Portal which I have no interest in.
I do hope they get that pc launcher out (which is rumored to have cross entitlement with ps5 purchases) and I can just treat my Rog Ally and steam deck as a much better portable ps5.
I'm excited for the week as a whole (2 weeks if we want to include the recent sony show). All shows combined is pretty exciting but any one of them is not that exciting.
I love the Series S especially with the xscreen attached. I can live with kingdom come deliverance 2 "only" being 25% bigger than the 40+ hour original.
BTW Here is a recent headline from IGN that contradicts this claim of it only being 25% bigger.
KINGDOM COME: DELIVERANCE II
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Announced, Will be 'Twice as Big' as the Original: ‘A Behemoth of a Game’
Here is a push square article also citing the two times as big quote directly from the studio. Plus this gem "One dev even joked it's main city is almost too big."
I don't know how these companies would survive if you passed on your old, now heavily discounted (if even still for sale) games down to your loved ones. Bad policy.
As soon as I hear state of play and not showcase my expectations immediately drop to the floor. I wasnt disappointed but my expectations were very low going into it. Astro bot and silent hill are the only games I am interested in playing and even those are not games that I feel I must play, i probably grab them at sale prices a year or two down the road.
Concord looks like they made a guardians of the galaxy game but didn't get the license so they scrubbed it just enough to be its own IP. If it's F2P I might try it but i dont see myself buying that one. Dedicating 1/3 of the show to this game probably didn't help the shows reception.
@Savage_Joe helldivers 2 also fits the live service model that they are saying will continue to be day 1 on pc. But I think single player games would do much better as a day 1 too. They aren't going to convince very many people to buy a console to play a narrative game that will come to pc 1 year or less later and you risk something else being the big narrative experience when it does get to pc and suddenly pc gamers aren't very interested in that game from last year.
Sony is struggling to get ps4 users to convert to ps5 (half of playerbase are on ps4). Convincing pc users is going to be harder.
If pc players weren't willing to pick up a ps4 before they started this pc port strategy, why would they start now? And only the single player games? If I was only on pc I would not jump into ps5 for single player games that I know are coming less than a year down the line. There really isn't a reason to have fomo for a single player narrative game that I know will be the same experience whenever I get to it. I already hit the point where I won't pay more than $30 for a narrative game.
I think we have our first quote from the new CEO that we can look back on in a couple years and say what a 180 they did.
I don't see how adding it to gamepass has a negative effect on the franchise. The core call of duty players only buy cod and 1 or 2 other games. Sony claims more than 1 million of their users only purchase call of duty games, nothing else. Gamepass makes zero sense for these kind of users. They are also adding Nintendo sales in the near future. They will sell a ton of copies every year just like normal (if not more so once those nintendo versions hit). It will still be at or very near the best selling game every single year.
If anything gamepass adds more players to the game and puts new people in front of the battle pass/cosmetics purchases.
Putting it on gamepass is a positive for the franchise. Predicting this is the most played call of duty ever that is not warzone.
Xbox bought ninja theory specifically. They did not buy Tango specifically. It was included in the bethesda deal. The real prize of the deal for xbox was bgs, id, machine games, zenimax online, and all the ip. They didn't buy bethesda for the small teams they closed. I don't think ninja theory has anything to worry about.
This will probably be the most played call of duty game that's not warzone. It will see a lot more players with gamepass. It will also still sell really well, even on xbox. Call of duty gamers don't seem like the type to want to subscribe to a service when they just play cod and maybe another game every year. It will be business as usual for a lot of the call of duty gamers that are on xbox. What did Jim Ryan say in court? More than 1 million playstation users buy call of duty and nothing else.
I don't really see a catastrophic sales decline by including it with gamepass. Especially considering they are about to open it up to nintendo for the first time in like a decade.
An underrated feature of gamepass for the "I need to own my games" club. Buy 1 month of gamepass for $10 then use the 20% discount to purchase the $70 game for $56 and then enjoy the $4 dollars you saved and the 30 days of access to the other games. Waiting and then splurging on a few games in a single month increases the savings.
That's good news for me. I would normally buy it at $20 a year or two later if i bought it at all and play the campaign and maybe a little zombies. I actually plan to try the multiplayer this go round.
So dumb. Sell the game to a brand new audience? Expand their franchises to regions that cant buy a ps5? No thanks we will block people from buying the game for no reason.
They finally wised up. This is good news. I was sick of them telling us that their games didn't meet expectations yet they made the poor decision to put it on just one platform.
This is embarrassing. One terrible decision after another. They had a good thing going with helldivers 2 but they might be destroying that already. It's a shame too since it would be such an easy fix to just keep psn optional like it has been.
I wonder what Arrowhead thinks of this decision. That relationship might be damaged by this arrogance Sony is showing.
Absolutely torpedoed the review scores on Steam. "Mixed" overall reviews and "overwhelmingly negative" recent reviews. It will probably never be able to climb back into the "mostly positive" rating. Shed 50k (~33%) peak concurrents since last week.
The only defense I am seeing of this tactic is that a few other publishers also do this crappy practice. We shouldn't be viewing that as justification for companies to do crappy things. It sucks that one game is getting the brunt of it but I like that people are taking stand. For Democracy!
@ChrisDeku by making it optional for however many months they showed that it is completely irrelevant to anything game wise. It's not a good look to have an optional task become mandatory a few months after purchase. They earned these negative reviews.
@Weebleman yes a completely unneccessary login that SOME other companies force on us consumers. Dumb process, I hope they are enjoying the pushback that could have been avoided.
Sony might be the first company to be dumb enough to show us that the login is completely unnecessary but then force it on users later anyway.
Unfortunate to see a game get review bombed but completely avoidable. They brought this on themselves. They could listen to feedback for once and reverse the bad policy.
The game worked just fine without needing a psn account. Sony (and the other companies that do this) deserve the backlash.
I hate when any company does this. Saying it is for the user's benefit is an outright lie. They want your data and they want to sell your data. I hope they (and everyone else) do get a lot of backlash for this. If you purchase a game on Steam then a valid steam account should be all that is needed.
Hopefully square enix start releasing everything on at least pc day 1 and forget the exclusivity crap. It's hard to sympathize with the self inflicted wounds they keep giving themselves.
I chose the quest 3 over psvr 2 after learning most of my psvr 1 library was not going to be playable. I'm glad I made a clean break when I did, I'm very happy with the quest 3. As things stand, I doubt PS will make a 3rd headset.
Some more will definitely come but it won't be nearly all of them. I believe all games will have at least 1 year exclusivity and they will analyze review score and interest on xbox/pc before deciding if it's worth it to port to switch or ps5.
I'm still leaning towards it being smaller titles as the Starfields, gears, halos and Indiana Jones remain exclusive.
Their plans will be layered in mystery though so don't expect a formula for which games come and which wont. They want playstation and switch users to question each games exclusivity.
My guess is Hellblade 2 will be the next one to come in holiday 2025.
I thought the show was just okay but it did ignite an interest in me to play the games again. I'm playing a ton of 76 and planning on doing doing yet another playthrough of 4 or new vegas soon.
I doubt they raise the $70 price tag so soon after the increase from $60. If anything there will probably be more aggressive "deluxe editions" above the base $70.
Saber will probably eventually price their AA games better. People buying a game at $70 and finding out it is not worth that much money is way worse than people thinking a $50 price tag means it is a subpar game. He even points to helldivers 2 which did fantastic at a lower price.
Not sure what he was getting at here except admitting that they are over charging for space marine 2. He says we are somewhere between indie and AAA but defends charging AAA prices. Sounds like the issue is with Saber and not the industry.
There seem to be more bugs this year than others. The road to the show is driving me crazy, as a two way player it does not accurately display which position you will be for the next game. Unless my base ps5 breaks I am not considering a pro at all. Didn't Sony themselves say that huge budget games are not feasible anymore? A ps5 pro might make some of these games run slightly better but there hasn't been a game yet that has explored the limits of a base ps5.
Buying a ps5 pro while the industry pivots to the more "AA" games and targeting the Nintendo/mobile audience seems like a poor use of funds.
(I already have a pretty nice pc that would likely out spec a ps5 pro)

Direct sequels can be tough. A lot of people who missed the first one won't want to jump in at this point. There will also be people who didn't like the first one enough to continue as well.
