Re: The Outer Worlds' Rough PS5 Port Gets First Post-Launch Performance Patch

Gamer_Guy

@KaijuKaiser I don't think making valid complaints about an enhanced edition of an old game being released in an unacceptable state in any way equates to 'hating gaming.'

More the opposite - people here are the ones who love gaming enough to engage in discussions about it rather than just buying FIFA and COD every year.

If no-one complained about anything, nothing would ever change. That applies to gaming and pretty much everything else in life.

@JamieO Memories! I had a Guncon back in the day. Was a magical experience - the precision was astonishing.

Sometimes technological progress (in this case the demise of CRT televisions in favour of LCD and OLED) is not a good thing. Feel sorry for those who will never experience a good light gun game.

Re: The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR (PSVR2) - Lousy Rails Shooter Is a Supermassive Shame

Gamer_Guy

I remember when people derided flat screens in favour of the amazing-until-they-very-quickly-weren't flops that were 3D TV's and the even worse curved TV's. I bet a lot of the VR crowd were rocking those marvellous innovations of technology back in the day. 'you have a FLAT tv? reaaallllyyy? poor you lol come to mine and put these silly goggles on and watch a 3d movie, it's the future don't you know...' It would be a spoiler to tell the ending to that story.

Somehow I don't think 'pancake' gaming is going to become toilet paper anywhere near as quickly as VR will.

Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Targeting Potential 2024 Release

Gamer_Guy

Not the same as with PS4 generation - the Pro model then was to do with cashing in on the tipping point of 4K TVs going mainstream. As others have said, not sure exactly what problem a PS5 Pro would solve.

I'm perfectly happy with the PS5 - a lot of my time is on back compat stuff anyway, where I'm benefitting from much faster loads and (on most of them) performance patches.

A refreshed PS5 with a detachable drive makes sense for consumers and Sony though, can see that one coming this year or next year.

Not bothered about a PS5 Pro, or even a PS6, for many many years.

Re: Huge PS5 Firmware Adds Discord Voice Chat, VRR at 1440p, Much More

Gamer_Guy

I kind of wish the playtime figure wasn't present on the main screen, or at least with no apparent way to turn it off.

I know it's always been available via the options on your profile, but I'd prefer not to be reminded every single time now of just how many hours I've put into some of these games!

Big positive for me is that as someone who doesn't have to mess about with discs (Digital Console) and who keeps their console out of sight behind the TV, not now having to plug in the dualsense for updates is a handy QoL win.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy PS4 Version Delayed to May 2023

Gamer_Guy

With the obvious struggle the devs are having here, and MS not even being able to release some games at all because of the crappy Series S not being able to run some Series X stuff, it could mean that last gen is FINALLY coming to an end.

Thank F for that.

Re: Pinball FX (PS5) - Messy Monetisation Overshadows Enormous Pinball Package

Gamer_Guy

I still love the old Pinball Arcade by Farsight Studios. Might not be 4K, but very playable and very customisable too.

I accumulated a massive collection of tables for that, including all the Williams tables before they had to delete them for sale when they lost the license to this company. Always count myself very fortunate when I fire up absolute classics like Arabian Nights or Medieval Madness.

Re: The Outer Worlds Remaster Coming to PS5 Next Week with Various Improvements, DualSense Support

Gamer_Guy

I bought and enjoyed Outer Worlds and the DLC in some deep sale or other, but it was couple years ago and f*** if I'm going to pay again for a remaster. I found it pretty much a one and done game anyway, despite the illusion of choice stuff with the dialogue.

It's even more insulting for them to try and make out like it's some kind of bargain for existing owners with this 'reduced price' crap.

Re: PSVR2 Early Adopters Are Struggling to Find the Sweet Spot

Gamer_Guy

I'm an amused bystander because I have zero interest in buying VR equipment of any kind, but the comments from some owners on here are a joke.

"Because I don't have a problem, there is no problem. It doesn't exist. Should have gone to spec savers." etc etc

It's like saying motion sickness with VR isn't a real problem just because YOU don't have it. Or there are no problems with positioning the headset just because you as an individual don't have problems. You can't extrapolate from your single use case to the entire set, in this or any other scenario. There's an entire world out there, you know?!

If you love VR and don't have any issues with the software or the hardware, fine. But don't try and pretend there are zero (widely reported) issues with it as a product because of that. That would be really really stupid.

Re: PSVR2: How to Reduce Motion Sickness

Gamer_Guy

Having to jump through all these hoops to try and reduce a feeling of nausea from something that's supposed to be enjoyable?

I have my own foolproof method of avoiding VR motion sickness....I simply don't put on a VR headset in the first place. Can't remember the last time I got motion sickness from sitting in a comfy armchair with a controller and a cuppa.
