Yes it's going to take me a while given how large this is, but I'm still enjoying it. I do look forward to playing something that isn't an open world game whenever I am done though.
Here we go again. Making excuses just like they did during the whole Activision buyout fiasco. They are in the mess they are in because of absolutely dreadful management from everybody involved in that company ever since the Xbox 360 really when they had the market lead and squandered it all by the end of the generation.
Good to see that this turned out to be pretty good. I've been playing a decent amount of open world games of late, so whenever I'm done with the current one, this will definitely be in consideration. It seems it would be a very nice change of pace.
I loved the PS4 Pro, except for it's design, but I'm with others that still don't really want a PS5 Pro. The main problem with this generation isn't a lack of power in the PS5. It's the fact that a lot of 3rd party devs are just too lazy to take advantage of the PS5. Several 1st party games do exactly what the 3rd party titles have failed to do that have gotten people to want the PS5 Pro in the first place.
I'm not saying I wouldn't consider getting one at some point, but the need for a mid-gen refresh now ever since the PS4 generation is not there. A PS4 Pro made sense because of 4K and all of that becoming a big deal during that console generation. There's nothing of the sort this gen, just like all of the other generations before the PS4. Save the upgrades for the PS6, especially since most devs have probably used a fraction of the PS5's actually power so far.
Making my way through the game's DLC that I bought but never played. Now onto Dawn of Ragnarok, which I started early in the week, so I'm not that far along yet. I'm enjoying it so far. I like how each dwarf shelter has it's own little story arc attached to it.
As others have said, if this was a single player game with multiplayer added on, I would have been all in. I have no problem with them copying Guardians of the Galaxy given that I'm a big fan of it, so it likely would have been a pretty entertaining FPS for me.
I don't do anything with online gaming anymore, so this will be an obvious pass for me. I'm not going to crap on it like other people though because I see no reason to.
I won't be playing it anywhere near release, but given how a lot of these JRPGs seem to go out of print within several months after release, I will likely buy it fairly quickly to make sure I have a copy whenever I end up playing it.
Why couldn't they just find another showrunner? I understand not wanting to do any shows with him attached to them, but it's not like there aren't others out there that couldn't have replaced him.
It's nice that they are so cheap. I know they won't likely be as good as some of the more expensive ones, as I know this won't be able to touch the phenomenal Aloy statue I bought from PlayStation Gear last year on sale. They still look good for the money though. I'm surprised they didn't do this sooner.
Big fan of the Ys series after finally playing Ys VIII last year. I'll happily take this.
I agree with @nessisonett that Adol being fully voiced is weird. Honestly, I would have preferred him to be for the whole series (or at least the latter ones), but since he's not, it makes little sense for him to be voiced in an early game and then silent in all of the recent ones. If the game is great, it'll be a minor thing in the end, but still puzzling.
@freddquadros Thanks for the tips about some of the DLC. I'm not sure I will do it all, but I will definitely finish The Siege of Paris and then do Dawn of Ragnarok. Then I will have finished at least the 3 major DLCs after already doing Wrath of the Druids.
By the time I'm done with The Siege of Paris and Dawn of Ragnarok, I may want to move on to another game. I'll see though.
After finishing the Wrath of the Druids DLC a few days ago, I've just started The Siege of Paris DLC. Wrath of the Druids was really good, so I'm hoping this is good as well as I continue my journey through most of the game's DLC (The Forgotten Saga being rogue-lite is not my thing).
If they give the first game a remake, I'd be all for it. I'm not worried about others as I already own several of them. The first one is one of those games I wish I played back when it first came out since I couldn't get through it when I tried to several years ago, and it's not because I'm not a big enough fan of the series.
I never played this when it originally came out, so it'll be interesting to finally play this at some point. I just have to wait and see how much the physical editions of this will be when pre-orders start next month. It's not like I'd be able to play this right away anyways.
@LordServbot Yeah, the game can be a lot of fun for a while until you run into a portion where you know you're likely going to die. Some of the combat can get quite intense in a good way, but then you die and that's that. You can keep save scumming, but that's damn annoying to keep closing the game just before it registers and then relaunching it just to bypass it deleting your "save".
Obviously not all of the online games are like this, but this is a perfect example of why I stopped playing any online games and just enjoy the single player portions or just single player games in general.
@Yaycandy I don't expect any enhancements or anything, so I'm perfectly fine with playing the PS3 games I have on the original hardware. Maybe it's a bit of nostalgia given that the PS3 will always be an extremely special console for me, but I still enjoy using it regardless.
@LordServbot That's another genre I avoid. I tried Returnal, and while I likely would have loved it if it was a "normal" game, having to restart every time I died killed it for me. They added the option to save scum, but that is annoying to try to do over and over.
It would have been awesome if Sony had put in the effort to make this happen a while ago, but I have since moved on from worrying about it after I found my PS3 in the basement last year. It's not easy to find the opportunity to fit in some PS3 games in between all of my PS4 and PS5 backlog, but it's hooked up for when the opportunities come.
Yes, if a game is a Souls game or Souls-like, it is an automatic pass for me. I play games to have fun, and I don't find it fun to die 100 times before you finally beat a particular boss or something like that.
It's a shame Elden Ring had to be that type of game since everything else about it is right up my alley as I love western style RPGs like that. Oh well. It's not like there's not a bunch of other "normal" games out there to play. I just think it's a shame in a sense that these type of games got to be so popular, as I see a game that might seem intriguing and then it gets immediately ignored when I find out it's that type of game.
Continuing to make my way through all of the DLC that I didn't play years ago. Started with Wrath of the Druids. I'm well into it now, but I'm still enjoying it.
@Ken_Kaniff They did overhaul the actual list of each game and how many trophies you've earned at least. At launch that was horrible.
There's other things that have been broken pretty much since launch like obviously the playtime tracking off and on, and when comparing certain games with people on your friends list. Like Final Fantasy VII Remake that has multiple versions and a demo. Even though I've played it on PS4 and PS5, it will say I never played it when comparing it with somebody else. I think that made sense.
My biggest issue is the forced activity cards though. One thing the PS5 UI had going for it was how nice it looked with game art as the background for games. Now that goes away the moment you start playing a game. The fact that they never gave you the option to revert back to the original look is stupid.
@Ken_Kaniff They were great through the whole PS4 generation. Then the PS5 came out and it's like they either cut that staff in half or gutted it all and hired people off of Craigslist.
If the people who work on the PS5's UI are the same people that work on Stars, I'm not surprised this has happened. I still love my PS5, but it's sad that the days of having faith in things working properly most of the time and them fixing the issues in a timely manner if not went away so quickly.
Well, if the PS5's UI is anything to go by, the engineers should be able to fix Stars by... never.
There's still things to this day that don't work properly on the PS5's UI that haven't since launch, so I wouldn't criticize anybody saying that they aren't surprised Stars is still not working.
I never really knew this existed, but after reading the review, I'll definitely check it out sometime. I'm not sure when as I already have plenty to play, but I'll try to remember to check it out at some point. I never did play their previous game (Everybody's Gone to the Rapture), but there's nothing wrong with something a bit different at times.
I had never played any of the DLC from the game even though I bought it all, so I am doing that now after finally finishing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. A good time as any given Shadows is coming in November.
I never played the original, so this would be a perfect opportunity to remedy that. I'm not expecting it to be a game that gets anywhere near a 10, but it should be fun. Sometimes that's not a bad thing at all.
So, for a lot of people it is the usual. I thought maybe this was going to be the big update that has been in beta for a long time now, but then I installed it. At least I can know the next time I fart, my PS5 is in no danger of falling over with the added stability.
I don't really care. I'm already sold on what I've seen. I've been sold on it since it was revealed. Still really looking forward to it.
Even if you would describe it as Ubisoft in space, I'd rather play that than Star Wars games that border on being soulslike games. It looks like it's going to be fun, and definitely feels like you're in a Star Wars world. I'll take fun.
This is easily my most anticipated game for the rest of the year. It's a rare Ubisoft game that I'm actually considering getting on release day. I know that sounds stupid, but it's not to me.
It is weird that it'll be on Switch, but do I care? No. I care about the fact that my favorite current running series is getting a Lego game. It should be a lot of fun playing a lighthearted Horizon game. I'll be playing the best console version of the game while others are busy crying.
I haven't played many Lego games at all, but I'll definitely be getting this one since I'm a huge fan of the Horizon series. A more lighthearted affair is not a bad thing.
Since it was developed to be a 30 FPS game, I had no issues playing it at that frame rate. It's extremely smooth for a 30 FPS game. The only issue I had initially was not being able to turn off the incredibly heavy handed motion blur, but at least they added that option eventually.
It is amazing though how Square Enix has now failed at a performance mode for each of their PS5 exclusive games. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth takes a big graphical hit if you play it in that mode, and it was never fixed. 16 obviously also had issues right out of the gate. The PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake had none of these issues and that's just a cross-gen game.
I would make a hard pass for Halo 1 unless it's the whole Master Chief Collection. I tried playing it for the first time a couple of years ago, and while I managed to finish it, it was a huge struggle to make it through it. The game is extremely dated at this point, with an extreme amount of repetition amongst the levels. It's a product of being developed back then, but still, I didn't find the game to be much fun at all. Halo 2 is leaps and bounds better, and so is 3.
Would be nice to know what instead of the same news we already knew that they are making 2 single player games. Could always go back and player another remaster/remake, which is all they've done so far this generation.
Good to know that we're at the heart of everything they do, but yet we know next to nothing about what they are doing. We know of 2 1st party single player games that are in development, but we are still waiting on several other developers that are MIA to reveal something.
Even though it would be a bit of typecasting, I could definitely see him in the role. He'd be perfect for it, but I'm sure whatever role he ends up getting, he'll be great as it. He was great in Shogun and the many other things I've seen him in.
At least somebody at PlayStation still remembers the old PlayStation magic. The company has almost entirely lost that, but at least Team Asobi still exists.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner Not really. It's not so much the expectations of the SoP. I didn't expect much and felt like I wanted my 30 minutes back until Astro Bot finally came along. It's the fact that we are at this point in the PS5's life cycle and we have yet to have anything revealed from several 1st party developers that haven't released a new game in at least 3-5 years.
Whether I expected them there or not doesn't change the fact that with every livestream, the frustration continues to grow when the vast majority of titles shown are either 3rd party games or 1st party online games. Yes, games take longer to make now, but it should be impossible for most of these developers to have nothing to reveal still. Like I said, it's been 3-5 years for most of them. They are not just sitting there and twiddling their thumbs. Or at least they shouldn't be even though it seems like it by now.
Even with the Astro Bot announcement, I still rated it Poor. Yes, my expectations were in check, but that still doesn't excuse the fact that anything else we didn't already know about was 3rd party. There's no way that developers that haven't released anything in at least 3-5 years don't have something to at least reveal. I'm getting really sick of still not knowing what any of them are developing outside of online titles or Wolverine.
I honestly felt like I wanted my 30 minutes back until the Astro Bot reveal, but one great announcement shouldn't excuse them.
@Matroska I was not aware of that, but I still earn hardly any points because Stars is so geared toward digital gaming and such. I may have around 1400 or so since it started.
It's not a Showcase, but this needs to at least help redeem their Showcase from last year by showing future 1st party games from developers that haven't released anything in years. I'll keep my expectations in check given how horribly inconsistent their shows have been this gen, but what I said still needs to happen regardless.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Sony's State of Play for May 2024?
Even with the Astro Bot announcement, I still rated it Poor. Yes, my expectations were in check, but that still doesn't excuse the fact that anything else we didn't already know about was 3rd party. There's no way that developers that haven't released anything in at least 3-5 years don't have something to at least reveal. I'm getting really sick of still not knowing what any of them are developing outside of online titles or Wolverine.
I honestly felt like I wanted my 30 minutes back until the Astro Bot reveal, but one great announcement shouldn't excuse them.
Re: PS5's Sublime Stellar Blade Can Now Be Yours with PS Stars Points
@Matroska I was not aware of that, but I still earn hardly any points because Stars is so geared toward digital gaming and such. I may have around 1400 or so since it started.
Re: State of Play Officially Confirmed for 30th May, Updates on PS5, PSVR2 Games
It's not a Showcase, but this needs to at least help redeem their Showcase from last year by showing future 1st party games from developers that haven't released anything in years. I'll keep my expectations in check given how horribly inconsistent their shows have been this gen, but what I said still needs to happen regardless.
