The only good thing about this imo is the fact that at least they'll finally announce something substantial for once, as it's been a while for the most part outside of one thing here and one thing there.
The thing is, there was a reason for a PS4 Pro. The rise of 4K. To do yet another one this gen is just stupid. Sure, the PS5 can struggle with running some things at 4K/60, but a decent amount of the issues are developer related, not the hardware. If the developer would put in the effort to properly optimize their games like developers such as Insomniac do with ease, then there would be less issues.
On top of the fact that mid-gen refreshes take away a good chunk of the advances the next gen would've provided. Again, I get why they released a PS4 Pro, but they should've saved all of the advances they are going to claim to make for the PS6.
I'm not saying I won't buy one someday, but there's no reason for me to buy one now. My near-launch PS5 still works perfectly fine, and the vast majority of the shortcomings from games that bothered me were because of the developer, like Square Enix not knowing how to optimize 2 straight games they designed specifically for the PS5.
I agree with everybody else saying how much dead IP they have been sitting on all this time, but I suppose the one positive from the interview is him acknowledging that they will be creating new IP moving forward. Yes, they could just revive some of the MANY ones they have been sitting on, but at least it seems like they'll be creating more new games going forward rather than be content with just using the handful of IPs they've been relying on for a while now and trying to use other companies to fill the gaps. That philosophy, while it has managed to get some solid 2nd/3rd party exclusives along the way, isn't PlayStation.
They really should give everybody a refund if you can't play the game anymore a month after release.
A shame the developer wasn't allowed to just make this into a single player game. I never played it, but it seems like there were enough good elements there that it could've been a solid single player FPS.
@ApostateMage It's fine. Maybe you've taken too many trips to Night City and your brain is permanently fried.
Yeah, the lockpicking isn't that bad once you really pay attention and it clicks (no pun intended). I still have no problem with games doing the very simple lockpicking, but this isn't bad once you get the hang of it. I haven't done the eating mini game yet, but I did look it up, so maybe at some point I will try that.
@Ravix Thanks for the very detailed help there. It actually did click for me yesterday. Initially I was being stupid and just hitting it the first time instead of completing all of the "beats" before putting it down to Easy and then eventually getting it out of sheer luck. Now I'm actually paying attention.
@Malaise The rant is fine. I end up going on them at times too. Yeah, in regards to playing their games, I could care less about what goes on behind the scenes. I play and watch what I want regardless of what happens behind the scenes for the most part.
I do normally wait on Ubisoft games, but it can depend on what else is coming out around their game at the time. Other than Astro Bot, for me there isn't really much coming out right around now, so I felt there was no reason to wait. If the reviews for Outlaws were all fairly negative, then that would've changed things, but that would've been the only way the reviews would've swayed me. The 6/10 from here is out of the norm. Judging whether I wait will likely apply to AC Shadows once I actually look at the release schedule for the rest of the year.
There is an option in the menus to turn down the difficulty to easy, which makes it a little better. I'll probably get better at it the more I play the game, especially trying to take my time instead of trying to just power my way through it whenever I get a little frustrated. It's also so much different from most game's lockpicking, so an initial adjustment period of sorts is not that surprising I guess.
@ApostateMage Slicing and lockpicking are two different things. Yes, the slicing in the game where you just guess what the three symbols are is easy. The regular lockpicking when you use the data spike in what is essentially a rhythm mini-game is what is giving people like myself some trouble early on.
There is an option in the accessibility menu to turn the difficulty down to Easy on it, which is what I did and it's not as bad. I'm sure @Ravix is having a much easier time with it. If I start taking my time instead of trying to rush through it, I'll probably get better at it. As I've said before, it's not something that is a dealbreaker by any means. It was just annoying at first for the most part.
@Malaise Indeed. I haven't been criticized directly in this case thankfully, but I was covering my bases if somebody did as I know there are people out there that would think that.
Thanks. I hope it does too of course, but I have a feeling it will. I like Star Wars and I like Ubisoft open world games, so it was pretty easy for me to know I was going to like it well before it came out.
The only annoying thing is the lockpicking, which is still a bit annoying even when you go into the settings and turn the difficulty for lockpicking down to Easy. Nothing that gets in the way too much. They just tried to get a little too creative imo. I think really simple lockpicking that we've gotten in some games over the years has been just fine.
Been playing it since Tuesday and have highly enjoyed it so far. I don't care if the game isn't getting GotY level review scores. I was really looking forward to it ever since it was shown for the first time and I'm happy with it so far.
I also don't care if people think I'm crazy for dropping $110 on a Ubisoft game, but I wanted to play it rather than some of the higher rated games that came out recently.
I got the Gold Edition and have been playing it since Tuesday. I've been enjoying it. I pretty much knew I would already when it was announced, and I could care less what the reviews say. I'd rather be playing this than some of the games that have gotten better scores recently.
Not saying everybody will agree obviously, but I don't find it to be a 6 at all. The only annoying thing for me so far was the lockpicking, but there is an option to change the difficulty of it to Easy. Problem solved for the most part.
Never played either of these. May give these a shot at some point finally with these nice looking remasters. I do have several JRPGs already in my backlog.
Obviously you always hope for really high scores with any game you are looking forward to. This hasn't reached that level obviously, sitting at 77 at the time of me typing this, but I'm still really looking forward to my copy arriving tomorrow. It should still be a lot of fun, which is what I expected from Outlaws all along.
I needed something fairly short to play before Star Wars Outlaws arrives next Tuesday. I seem to be nearing the endgame. I've enjoyed it for the most part as long as I just keep focusing on the story and none of the side content.
@PSme True. Life is Strange 2 is easily my least favorite of the series, but I still liked it. Issues I had with it were more with his younger brother than the main character. Yes, I even liked Chloe in the original and Before the Storm, unlike a decent amount of fans that found her annoying.
Really looking forward to both games as well. Like the article said, these games are perfect for palette cleansers, and are generally more reliable. Out of Life is Strange alone, I haven't disliked a single one.
I would argue that True Colors was good enough to contend with the original, so technically the series may not always be at it's best with Max as the main character. Still, I am glad she is getting another game with this one rather than another new character.
I understand why they are delisting it and going to relaunch it so to speak in this case, but it's not surprising that it will have several editions by the end of it all like Dying Light did. Wouldn't surprise me if they released another Ultimate Ultimate Edition someday too with The Beast back in it.
Yes, I will likely always be a bit bitter at Techland for selling both the Enhanced Edition and the Platinum Edition at the same time instead of delisting the Enhanced Edition right away. I figured I jumped on a really good deal when I got the Enhanced Edition for $12, only to see that there was another edition available that included even more content but obviously wasn't on sale. It's obvious they were trying to get people like me that didn't know any better to buy the lesser release that shouldn't even have been available anymore anyways. Dying Light has 4 editions, which is absurd.
Lost in Random is getting a sequel. Cool. Oh, wait, I missed the Rogue-lite part. Never mind. A shame yet another developer feels the need to join in on the Rogue/Souls crazes.
Nice to know that this is a labor of love for the people involved unlike a decent amount of remasters nowadays.
I've yet to play any of the series, but I do still have Broken Sword 5 unplayed for a sale last year. I look forward to finally giving that a shot at some point soon and then playing this remaster eventually too.
@Athrum Since they are publishing the game themselves, there doesn't seem to be one. It wouldn't be surprising if another company like Limited Run stepped in and released one at some point if initial digital sales are strong.
I don't mind it being released episodicly, but I'll just wait until March for both parts. I'm sure I'll still have plenty left over from this year, so I likely won't have the urge to jump right in anyways.
@rusty82 Sums up Evil West pretty well. It will never be considered a classic, but sometimes it's just as good or better to play a game that's just fun. I claimed it whenever they gave it away for free on PS Plus Essential and I'm obviously glad I did.
Still really enjoying the game after my first full week of playing it. I'm pretty sure I'm nearing the end of the game though. so I may wrap it up this weekend.
There's no way I'll have time to play it anytime soon, which may be a blessing in disguise if the concerns about performance actually become true. Regardless, this is something I'll consider down the line given that it's a normal game and not Souls difficult.
I'm a fan and I'm hoping this does turn out to be pretty good against all odds, but I won't be getting it anywhere near Day 1. Way too many games coming out the rest of the year and I still have yet to finish Inquisition. It'll probably be a blessing in the end to play this down the road, which I'm perfectly fine with.
I'd be all for a remake over a remaster. I'm a fan of the original (never played the other two in the series), but just remastering it would accomplish nothing. To fix the issues the game had with a lot of people, it would need to be remade. You can tell it's a PS3 game, but at the same time it looks solid already as is, so a remaster would be a waste of time.
@PuppetMaster That's a pretty reasonable comparison for Evil West. Sometimes a fun game is just as good as the GotY contenders in a sense.
Even with the combat being a tad repetitive, it is fun beating the crap out of enemies for a while. It's even better when you pick it up and play it after a day at work.
Yeah, at least they try to work in a few things to mix it up a little. I haven't had any truly challenging boss fights yet, but that's not actually a complaint. I'd rather be able to figure it out after a few deaths than be sitting there after a few dozen deaths and then finally do it somehow.
It's not considered to be a great game, but around 4 hours in I'm having fun with it. Yes, the combat can get repetitive, but there is something to be said about the simple fun Flying Wild Hog games provide. They may never make a GotY contender, but they continue to make games that are entertaining.
@Flaming_Kaiser I get what you're saying and I don't fault you at all for waiting. I just will always think the complaining in regard to them supposedly offering unfinished products to be ridiculous. Like I've said, their main stories always have an end to them and then the DLC are just bonus side stories.
I know it gives the impression that it's held back content, but if it doesn't keep the game's main story from being complete, I don't care and I think people are being ridiculous for complaining about things that are just extra bonus side stories. It is what it is though I guess.
Not a fan of the series. Even tried Tiny Tina's first spin-off/DLC game because I figured I'd give it a shot being a big Horizon fan (naturally then being an Ashly Burch fan) and didn't care for it.
I was hoping this would at least be entertaining though, as it was more the gameplay than anything else that I disliked. Can likely cross this one off the list then.
@Flaming_Kaiser Nothing wrong with waiting for a discount or the Complete Edition that will inevitably release. I just think the complaining that they are selling an incomplete game is ridiculous, that's all. It'd be different if these applied to the main story like other games have in the past.
@Flaming_Kaiser Not at all if the DLC has nothing to do with the main story.
I know what you're saying. If the first DLC is almost done, which would have to be in order to be out in the Fall, then it could've been included. Sure, but again, the complaining is more than a bit much given that none of the DLC changes whether you get a complete story from the main game or not.
I guess people just love to complain about things now. There are things you can rightfully complain about in regards to Ubisoft releases, but how the DLC became one of them is baffling. They are not selling an incomplete game. Their games always have a beginning, middle, and an end to their stories. Any additional content that comes out afterwards is exactly that... additional.
Using the comparison that has been brought up already in here, they are not selling you a game that ends on a cliffhanger if you don't want to pay for the DLC like a lot of TV shows end up doing (obviously out of showrunners hands). Sure, waiting until next year will get you all of the content in a Complete Edition, but complaining about the DLC is just asinine.
@LifeGirl Yeah, who knows. It's definitely a logical concern. We'll see if the actress could handle it or not.
In the end, I just hope I like the rest of the show better than I did the game. I know it might sound silly, but I'm still going to play the PS5 version of it at some point so I can refresh my memory on some things and give a much better comparison.
Even though I hated how the story turned out in the game, I'm still looking forward to Season 2. Maybe it will turn out better in TV form. At least Abby's part may not go on, and on, and on, and on....
@trev666 I'm not defending the new pricing, but that was back when the series was new. Price it cheap to try to get people to play it, but now that the series is well established they don't care.
No way in hell I'm paying $20 for that content, no matter how big of a fan I am of both Life is Strange and FF7. Even $50 for the base game is kind of expensive, but I thought True Colors released at around that price too. As much value as I personally get out of the series, I'd be willing to pay the $50 as long as it's on the level of True Colors. Depending on what else is out around then, I may still wait like I ended up doing with True Colors anyways.
I've never dealt with them, but I know how bad they are to deal with. Still, I did just put in my pre-order for the regular edition because I do still want a physical copy. If it takes anywhere near as much extra time as it did to get my Baldur's Gate 3 Deluxe Edition from Larian, then I'll consider cancelling like I almost did with that.
If it turns out to be another soulslike, then I'm out. There are so many games that would be so much more enjoyable if they were just games and not something to frustrate the hell out of you until you somehow advance.
Although I guess in this case, it's just an assumption at this point. Just like what @PegasusActual93 said though. There's plenty of games that look interesting until it is revealed to be a Soulslike game. As I've said before, I play video games to have fun.
Silly me for thinking maybe this was finally the big update that changes a lot of the Home screen and such. While I appreciate them actually taking the time to make sure it works better than their playtime tracker, it's been in beta for more than several months now.
At least I can still rest easy at night knowing I still won't have to take my PS5 to see a shrink anytime soon.
I've been sold on the game since it's reveal, so I could really care less what people on social media think of it. If the reviews are mediocre, maybe that will change my plans of getting it on Day 1 (the day before my birthday), but I would still get it regardless.
I know a lot of people would say it's blasphemy to get a Ubisoft game at release, but I also don't care about that either.

@Flaming_Kaiser Nothing wrong with waiting for a discount or the Complete Edition that will inevitably release. I just think the complaining that they are selling an incomplete game is ridiculous, that's all. It'd be different if these applied to the main story like other games have in the past.
Re: The Order: 1886 Dev Ready at Dawn to Close After VR Stint
Obviously a real shame they had to get bought by a company that was bound to shut them down eventually.
Re: Two Star Wars Outlaws DLC Packs Set for Fall and Spring 2025
@Flaming_Kaiser Not at all if the DLC has nothing to do with the main story.
I know what you're saying. If the first DLC is almost done, which would have to be in order to be out in the Fall, then it could've been included. Sure, but again, the complaining is more than a bit much given that none of the DLC changes whether you get a complete story from the main game or not.
Re: Two Star Wars Outlaws DLC Packs Set for Fall and Spring 2025
Re: The Last of Us Season 2 TV Teaser Trailer Revealed
@LifeGirl Yeah, who knows. It's definitely a logical concern. We'll see if the actress could handle it or not.
In the end, I just hope I like the rest of the show better than I did the game. I know it might sound silly, but I'm still going to play the PS5 version of it at some point so I can refresh my memory on some things and give a much better comparison.
Re: Years After Its Reveal, PSP Remake Fate/Extra Record Re-Emerges for PS5, PS4
This series makes no sense... release wise that is.
Re: The Last of Us Season 2 TV Teaser Trailer Revealed
Even though I hated how the story turned out in the game, I'm still looking forward to Season 2. Maybe it will turn out better in TV form. At least Abby's part may not go on, and on, and on, and on....
Re: Epic Mickey Rebrushed Looks Magical, Has Gyro Controls on PS5, PS4
I never played the original, so this would be the perfect opportunity to rectify that stupid mistake.
Likely down the road as it comes out in the middle of other releases, but it's definitely on the list now.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 540
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope
Re: Wear Chocobos and Moogles on Your Sleeve with Life Is Strange: Double Exposure's Final Fantasy 7-Themed DLC
Re: Preview: Star Wars Outlaws Thrives in Its Rewarding Open World
Who would have thought the media and people in general would've overreacted over early previews of small portions of a game?
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 539
Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok
Haven't made as much progress on it over the last week as I would've liked to, but still plugging away at it and enjoying it.
Re: Your Opportunity to Pre-Order a Physical PS5 Copy of Lollipop Chainsaw Is Now
I've never dealt with them, but I know how bad they are to deal with. Still, I did just put in my pre-order for the regular edition because I do still want a physical copy. If it takes anywhere near as much extra time as it did to get my Baldur's Gate 3 Deluxe Edition from Larian, then I'll consider cancelling like I almost did with that.
Re: Not Much Is Known About PS5's Loulan Yet, But We Bet It'll Be a Soulslike
If it turns out to be another soulslike, then I'm out. There are so many games that would be so much more enjoyable if they were just games and not something to frustrate the hell out of you until you somehow advance.
Although I guess in this case, it's just an assumption at this point. Just like what @PegasusActual93 said though. There's plenty of games that look interesting until it is revealed to be a Soulslike game. As I've said before, I play video games to have fun.
Re: New PS5 Firmware Beta Begins This Week, with 'Adaptive' Controller Charging, Custom 3D Audio, More
Hopefully this means the large firmware update that's been in beta for months will be released soon.
Re: Latest PS5 Firmware Update Adds Game Session Sharing via URL, Here Are the Patch Notes
Re: 'Unpolished' Star Wars Outlaws Gameplay Gets Blasted, But Ubisoft Insists on August Release Date
