@sonicmeerkat agreed. This was 100% NOT review bombing. Nearly all of the negative reviews were for valid subjective reasons. This idea that an outlet that is trying to present itself in a journalistic nature is suggesting that every game that gets glowing critics reviews is being review bombed if a large pool of gamers fell differently.
Review bombing is deliberately leaving a negative review with the intention coming from a different/ collective agenda or as a response to something other than the game design. If it's valid ly critiquing aspects of said game design, that's an Fing valid review. Period.
Its Critiques are valid, and while I am enjoying Erdtree, I totally understand where the criticism is coming from. Especially in terms of the really poor enemy damage balancing.
As praised as present day Capcom is, I really do wish they would stop with the remakes. Just give us new stories rather than reselling us prettier versions of ones we already paid for.
Look, minimize all you want, but regardless of its strong showing, a 90% decrease in player count in a few months post release is massive.
It's awesome it was so big, but the content on offer isn't enough to keep it engagement with the Co op pve format. You need new missions, enemies, factions, and biomes and you need them pretty regularly.
Sony completely sapping the pc space hype was idiotic, and if I were the hell divers devs I'd seperate from any partnering with them going forward and find a better publisher.
Lmfao there would need to be a massive amount of additional writing to tell a complete and coherent story. Let's be real here, none of these games have More than lore tidbits at best.
It wouldn't work for anything more than a dark fantasy anime or animated series for fans only with the patchwork that it is now.
Unless you go with the heavily reliant on subjective interpretations profiting off those holes via YouTube lore videos like vaati's.
Probably Wukong, Flintlock, star wars outlaw, and Enotria.
Tentatively: dragon age, silent hill 2 and vampire masquerade 2, path of the goddess.
Crossing fingers for eventual: Indiana. Jones, and more Xbox stuff coming over, or if all they have coming out turns out decent, I may have to get a box for the first time ever.
Honestly. This is so lame. Not only has the remake boom completely sapped creativity, but Ubisoft in general has obky barely changed the formula of theae titles and many would say not for the better. To funnel what many also view as the best game in the series into remakes using current mechanics is not only necessary but may ruin what made the better games in the series great.
The last dev that should churn out remakes is a dev that has milked a formulaic open world design and then dumbed down a series as a whole.
I don't think the discourse about shadow is just difficulty in reality.
It's just really poorly balanced. Movesets, the cheap roll catch boss combos, etc. They sometimes feel bs sure but the problem with Erdtree is the damage output and health pool inflation. It's kind of a sad and cheap way to make things More "difficult."
Even more so when Miyazaki is gloating about it like it's some grandiose strategy to push players to the brink, when in reality you just increased the damage and health sliders and pasted copied old animations on new boss character Models. It's a little lazy, arrogant and tone deaf rather than artistic or developmental expression.
Love me this genre, played nearly all of them, but I can totally understand people's frustration with this dlc, despite still enjoying it Myself.

@DennisReynolds this is such a fan boy dripped comment. Like an I ejection of potential players from a 30 million ppl install. Base and 34 million gamepass subscribers is just nothing.
Hell divers player counts have fallen off a cliff. It totally would be a good idea to try and breathe new Life into it via porting it over.
Especially with how easy it would be to do so with a pc version already out.
Honestly this practice of Not even teasing what you are working on in any mea ingful way by Sony and Co is straight BS. This bizarre ghosting the fan base strategy is honestly just Making them look clueless and arrogant.
Aside from the Xbox showcase it was absolute garbage and the majority of the main event felt completely unnecessary. Just one big cash grab of advertising money. The large majority of the "accompanying shows" were not affiliated to it and in all reality shouldn't be coupled together in terms of polling.
As far as Sony's state of play, I genuinely question their level of competency even as a business at this point. They seem hell bent on destroying every bit of goodwill they have merely because the hardware sold well. What's so bizarre is that all of this souring sentiment is completely avoidable and there is really no good reason for it other than greed and a genuine lack of effort and understanding of PR.
Stealth gameplay looks fun, the samurai combat was pretty janky. The rest just looks like the same current ac stuff. It's the repetitive nature of their Open world bloat and design framework that makes ac gameplay get so stale no Matter how fun initially.
Hopefully it's more refined. However I highly doubt it is. I do agree though that it looked rough all around.
So let me get this straight. in order for Sony to be less repetitive, pigeon holed, tone deaf, formulaic, and greed driven I have to buy a lame Lego game and and a Sony advertisement disguised as a platformer?
There is a lot of space between the samey suite of games Sony has funneled themselves into and these two childish endeavors. A multitude of genres and gameplay styles. I'm not buying the kids games just in the hopes that it produces more diversity. I just won't buy a Sony game period, unless it actually looks good, fresh, and less repetitive. The sequel factories have got to stop.
Sony was once a platform with a huge library of diverse games. It's on Sony to see value in that again. Instead of the safe, samey bloated budget and live service focused stuff they are doing now.
The dude actually does interviews. You all can fanboy away everything this guy's says all you want but the reality is Sony has literally never had a leader that has sat down and done interviews and q&a sessions this generation let alone display a clear passion for gaming and respect for their fandom.
Xbox has had some pretty big disappointments the last few years but they still show up and answer tough questions and still at least try to engage the journalists and fans. Sony should take Notes because the way I see it, Xbox only needs a few decent hits and a good year or two to regain ground. If that means going more gamer friendly and having some of their suite be multiplatform thats good for the business and fans. So too will be the case if the pretty much confirmed by Spencer Ms handheld with offline support emerges.
There just really isn't denying it. That Xbox showcase was leagues better than game fest and Sony's weak state of play.Sony left the bar so low and has done so for nearly this entire generation.
I really hope that they are paying attention. That sometimes gamers just want a little fan service. Even if a game is some time away a tease/or update on what nearly half a dozen studios are working on would have gone a long way.
Some of us just want good games and a little communication. Some of us aren't blindly allegiant to a brand and can praise or criticize when compelled.
Kudos to Ms on this one. This was a great showcase of games done in a pretty spectacular fashion.
Not gonna lie the stealth character gameplay looks dope. Makes me Miss the old tenchu days. Hopefully. This one is more refined and leans into that and less of the copy and paste enemy emcampment raids, and other open world bloat.
@UltimateOtaku91 trolling or having opinions that differ from fan boyish cheering. There is a huge difference. But yah if you want to buy me a console I'm down. Not going to reject free. However I will still be sharing my thoughts wherever I please. 👍
It's baffling to Me that brand allegiance can be so blinding that you cant even recognize potentially good games or a good showcase from other platforms.
@S1ayeR74 I hear ya. Had starfield not been such a disappointment I may have bit the bullet and gotten an Xbox for the first time ever. With gamepass it's still a good sell with solid third party day one releases. However now I dunno. A bunch of these could come over to playstation now anyways, who knows maybe even a gamepass option if they were smart.
If they all don't though, and Sony continues this status quo and some of these stay on xbox... I may bite the bullet on one. Brand allegiance is just dumb anyways. I just want to Play good games. A ton of these in this showcase look to be so.
@S1ayeR74 exactly. Not even done yet and it's absolutely stomping the ps showcase and game fest. So Many games I'm interested in.
Hopefully that migrate over to ps. Still proving that gamepass is the best value in gaming though. Ughhh tbh, being a dedicated Sony ps player has never been as disappointing as this generation has been thus far.
Yah not much to go off of from this. I really hope they don't show up with some obscure gameplay loop nobody wants. holy crap though, the Xbox showcase has already proven to be the best showcase out of them all thus far. Most what has been shown thus far I want to Play and hope it all comes over to the Ps5 🤣
Just sad how sterile and Formulaic Sony has become with how they communicate with fans 😔
Nexon has always made flashy visual games that are ultimately just predatory grind games Designed to get you to pay for Mtx. In fact they were around during the very early years of these extraction design models before they became so prevalent in the larger gaming market. Back when they were just corny free to play pc game ads on websites and social media.
This will be no different and is really only on mainstream radars because of its higher budget/production values.
This feels like a large pile of advertising for a company you are beholden too. To blame Sony's known pedigree and them moving away from that to chase games designed to prey on people in the name of greed is kinda a mute point now.
We have known for years now that Sony has grown tone deaf, anti consumer, and are cooking up a multitude of these schemes.
What is happening with Concord is the same thing that happened with Gotham Knights, Redfall, and most recently Suicide squad. The games looked generic, boring, iterative, and uninspired even in early showings. Further reveals only reasserted that massively agreed upon sentiment. A sentiment that went on to be largely true upon release for Most people. These just weren't good games that chose to retread long overdone themes and mechanics.
Concord backlash is directly Because it looks derivative and mediocre in a time where people are growing tired of these attempts. You contrast that with something like hell divers and really Examine what is different about that gameplay and design and it's clear what's refreshing with that project.
That being said, let's be real here, even if you look at the live service schemes that were received well on release, the player counts dwindle greatly a month or two after launch (the finals, hell divers etc). Hell divers is now at sub 50000 players. A nearly 400% decline after the hype faded.
All of these devs and overlords are chasing a level of revenue extraction with a longevity at fortnite/apex/GTA/pubg/destiny/counterstrike/cod/naraka/overwatch levels that In all reality is extremely rare.
You certainly aren't going to achieve this by retreading the same themes (hero shooter bs) that players have invested years into with live service schemes they are already addicted to.
There is context missing here. The Bloomberg report clearly States that Rocksteady, On THEIR Own, were already focused on a live service scheme(codenamed "stones"), prior to being pressured into changing the project to be derived from the Arkham verse.
Don't get it too twisted here, the leadership at Rocksteady had already made the Independant decision to chase this played out predatory model. They arrived to the party too late, mimicked mediocrity, and essentially 'F'ed around and found out. Just as Sony will experience with Concord.
If you are going to try and create one of these schemes you have to produce a fun game first. Even then the tolerance/public perception for new iterations of such predation is waning at an increasing rate.
@LiamCroft Do we know how meaty an expansion this is in terms of runtime, how many areas or dungeons there are etc?
Also, the one major negative for me with Elden Ring aside from dated visuals and poor performance were those copy and paste side dungeons. Did you see any hint of those returning in the dlc?
Pretty funny to see statements like this after that garbage state of play dedicating a majority of its runtime to a DOA bloated budget generic live service hero shooter.
Astrobot just looked like another playstation advertisement packaged in a level based platformer. May be fun but it's still just a gimmicky simple platformer. Missing genuine story in favor of cheering on Playstation, looking at you dual sense ship. Like wtf is that nonsense. Give me Jak and Daxter or sly.
Ok rant aside, Yah not much. Where are the big studios Sony. Hell just an announcement of what is to come, a friggin title screen of something big would have sent the ponies into fervor.
This was just a bland and tone deaf misstep..... Again.
Clearly they are just waiting to try and peddle justification for the pro to come.
The problem is the complete lack of care in paying mind to fan service. They have grown so silent and sterile, completely ignoring the discourse and eroding perception they are accumulating when just a few bones thrown, tidbits of hype and teasers here and there would go so far in repairing it.
It really feels like Sony has completely forgotten what and who catapulted them to the top.
Even astrobot just looked like another playstation advertisement packaged in a level based platformer. May be fun but it's still just a gimmicky simple platformer. It's just a played out niche that's been done and even the most successful hero Shooter is waning in popularity.
Sony is once again late to a party that most gamers are over.
Not sure how many more bloated budget live service schemes have to fail in a 24 month period before the greed mongers realize that for the most part that ship has sailed. over monetization in general is growing less an less tolerated by enthusiast gamers, and the rest of the addictected zombies already have their hookup for this garbage.
Well stated article. Couldn't really have summed it up better.
This has been a really bizarre generation. It was just so jarring how quickly Sony went from the highs of the ps2, 3 and some of the ps4 generation, to this tone deaf greed driven anti consumer model they have adopted for like 5 years straight now.
They are, as other have said, coasting on fumes. Sure it may not have affected their hardware sales just yet this generation, however it will eventually catch up to them if there isn't a significant realignment to a more diverse portfolio and actual fan service.
The amount of people giving this a shot will be far less if its behind a pay wall. Redfall and Suicide squad cemented caution with these schemes for sure.

WB resorting to double dipping on the only success they've had in years after yet another failed live service scheme?...... Shocking
Too bad for Rocksteady and anyone else chasing these trends.
Re: Preview: Elden Ring Promises a DLC Masterclass in Shadow of the Erdtree
@LiamCroft Do we know how meaty an expansion this is in terms of runtime, how many areas or dungeons there are etc?
Also, the one major negative for me with Elden Ring aside from dated visuals and poor performance were those copy and paste side dungeons. Did you see any hint of those returning in the dlc?
Re: Poll: Are You Hyped for Summer Game Fest 2024?
Hyped?! No, Keighley made sure any bit of that was squashed.
Re: It's 'A Truly Exciting Time' for PlayStation as New Sony CEOs Take Control
Pretty funny to see statements like this after that garbage state of play dedicating a majority of its runtime to a DOA bloated budget generic live service hero shooter.
Re: Bungie Responds After Destiny 2's The Final Shape Was 'Accidentally Pushed Live on PS5'
Wow. Just wow......
Solid investment Sony
Re: Latest State of Play Is One of the Worst-Received PS5 Shows Yet

Honestly, none. Maybe where winds meet or if silent hill pans out. But astrobot just looked like another playstation advertisement packaged in a level based platformer. Re: Big New PS5, PC Shooter Concord Has an Uphill Battle Ahead of It
It's just a played out niche that's been done and even the most successful hero Shooter is waning in popularity.
Re: Reaction: PS5 Livestreams Are No Longer Speaking to the Fans Who Built the Brand
Re: PS5, PC Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if Concord Is Free-to-Play
The amount of people giving this a shot will be far less if its behind a pay wall. Redfall and Suicide squad cemented caution with these schemes for sure.
A bone head idea if that's the case.
Re: Ballad of Antara Offers 'High Fidelity' Free-to-Play RPG Action on PS5 in 2025
Yah, "free to play," just killed any interest in this for me.
