I guess Sony probably views itself as the dominant player in the console business at the moment (the data probably backs this up) and they probably realise that they can maximise their revenue doing things like this.
The good times are temporary, so I think Sony is probably milking their dominance this generation for all it's worth while they can.
I wish Sony would sell a PS+ package that only focuses on being able to play online.
I'm really not interested in the fantastic and massive collection of PS+ games at the different tiers.
I can barely muster the time and energy to play the games I've purchased myself, there's no way I could take advantage of the PS+ game collection/library.
I would just like to play Gran Turismo Sport online now and then to try and get my 3rd victory, having raced online 75 times previously.
I really didn't enjoy the Mementos section of Persona 5, so my enthusiasm for P3R has definitely decreased.
Also, I agree with everyone saying that Atlust will probably add in the P3P and P3FES features at a later stage, by selling it as another version of P3R.
I think I'll wait until P6 arrives for my Persona fix.
I played Armored Core 4 on the PS3 back in 2008. It just didn't click with me. The missions were too short and I didn't enjoy the gameplay at all. I quickly moved onto other games and I've only thought about what happened 15 years ago recently due to all the coverage AC6 is getting.
At the time, I wasn't even aware that FromSoftware was the developer. It's quite astonishing what FromSoftware has achieved in that 15 year period.
When it comes to mech-combat, I'm firmly in the BattleTech and MechWarrior camp.
I played the Immortals Fenyx Rising demo, and I was actually pleasantly suprised by it. It had a gorgeous art direction and, if I can remember correctly, the combat was pretty decent.
For me, it definitely felt like something new and novel from Ubisoft, which seems to be a rarity these days.
I think I'll pick the full game once I have the resources to do so.
Y'know, game development is extremely time consuming and costly, but considering that Rockstar made Red Dead Redemption 2 and included half of the world of Red Dead Redemption 1 within RDR2, I feel it's such a missed opportunity to not have remade RDR 1 in the RDR 2 engine.
I'm not saying it would be an easy task at all, but there's a good foundation that's already been laid.
I guess the economics of the situation is the ultimate deciding factor; it's far far cheaper, quicker and easier to release that disappointing port than remake RDR 1.
In the article, the founders of the studio explicitly mentioned that they wanted the game to be a callback to the PS2-era platformers, so the design is quite intentional.
I feel like Dreams had the potential to be the Roblox of the PS4/PS5, but for adults and not just little children.
If Sony and Media Molecule actually thought about providing a monetary incentive for creators to craft games within Dreams, it may have been a profitable venture to keep alive for a long time.
I don't think it would have achieved the same kind of financial success as Roblox, but I'm pretty sure Dreams would actually have been one of those mystical Live Service Games that could have had shelf life of a decade, at a maximum.
I'm suprised that after all the things Activision-Blizzard has done in the past few years, especially to their own employees, there's still such a massive mainstream support for their titles.
This incident isn't suprising at all, and it will be swept under the rug, and ABK will continue to rake in the profits.
I really enjoyed the first game as I played it with my wife. It has that Overcooked vibe, so I'm definitely looking forward to playing the sequel in the future.
This project must be some sort of tax-evasion or tax-avoidance scheme. No reasonable person, in their right mind, would ever green-light something like this.
Does anyone think we'd ever get an F1 game in the same vein as EA's F1 Career Challenge or even Codemaster's F1 2012?
Career Challenge was really interesting, as it had 4 seasons (1999 - 2002), with actual and updated teams and circuits for each of the 4 seasons. I find that with current F1 games, once you've finished the initial season of F1 20XX, that's basically it. Moving onto the next season, it already feels outdated and unrealistic.
With F1 2012, I enjoyed the Champions Challenges (or whatever they were called). I remember struggling to beat the first challenge (Finish ahead of Kimi Raikkonen at Spa driving the Williams FW34).
I'd like the current F1 games to incorporate challenges similar to F1 2012, based either on the current season (with it being updated after the game's release) or on past seasons.
The last F1 game I played was F1 2016. I remember playing through the Career Mode (with Sauber F1) and when I reached Baku, I realised that I wasn't having any fun with Career Mode, and just stopped playing. I sold the game shortly afterwards and waited until Gran Turismo Sport was released for my racing fix.
Y'know, within a business environment, labour is usually the most expensive cost, but it's also the most productive resource a company has.
So by retrenching staff, the company sees it as a way to reduce costs in a massive way.
However, the games that they didn't cancel aren't going to develop themselves. This means that the staff that wasn't retrenched will probably have an increased workload, negatively impacting productivity.
This will never happen, but if a company wants to downsize or restructure or whatever corporate buzzword is used, the cost cutting should start at the top, not at the bottom.
Square-Enix (I know they're not the Publisher) will still be disappointed with these numbers, and will ultimately conclude that RE4:Remake under-performed sales-wise.
I'm actually quite cool with this. The Hitman trilogy has been fantastic (even though I didn't play Hitman 3, it looks excellent) and I'd hate to see the IP become stale like Assassin's Creed for example.
A 4 - 6 year hiatus will let IO Interactive work on other projects, and in that time, I'm sure they'll quietly prototype new ideas on where to take the Hitman IP.
I honestly can't say. I think OpenTTD is based on Transport Tycoon Deluxe. It's basically an Open Source TTD which can run on modern operating systems without major issues.
I never played Locomotion, so I can't compare the two.
I generally love these types of games (loved Railroad Tycoon II and Transport Tycoon Deluxe on the PC), but I feel that they're best played on PC where you have access to mods to either fix or improve aspects of the game.
That's the reason why I became totally disinterested in Cities Skylines on the PS4. The base game without any mod support is just too bland.
Y'know, I actually respect Yuji Naka for admitting to it. Normally someone in his position would deny it and then manipulate the legal system to squirm their way out of it.
You just reminded me about another killer feature of PS3...the free multiplayer! I have fond memories of playing FIFA, Uncharted 2 & 3, ModNation Racers, Dead Rising 2 and God of War: Ascension.
I really miss the totally free multiplayer on the PS3. I understand why there's a paywall for online multiplayer for the PS4 and PS5, but not having to worry about PS+ to play online on the PS3 was something I admit I took for granted.
I really regret selling my PS3 Slim back in 2018. It did partially fund my PS4 Pro purchase, but man, there's just something about the PS3 and that era of gaming.
I also deeply miss playing Skate 2 and 3. Special shout out to Modnation Racers as well.
Rocksteady spent 7 years on working on this!? This is basically the DC equivalent of Marvel's Avengers. I hope Rocksteady won't be negatively affected if SS underperforms commercially.
I don't think Ubisoft has the ability (legally speaking) to cancel Skull & Bones as I recall reading, a while ago, that Ubisoft entered into an agreement with the Singapore government, and I think it's one of the conditions of the agreement that Ubisoft is required to release Skull & Bones...eventually.
I can't remember the last Ubisoft game I played and completed. I recently started Watch_Dogs 2, but I'm burnt out on open-world games in the Ubisoft style, so I haven't continued playing it in almost a month.
On the supply side, I do the PS5 shortage ends soon. Unfortunately, living in what is deemed to be a Third World/Developing country, I don't think there's any likelihood that current gen consoles would go on sale. Where I live, it didn't happen with the last gen consoles, so I don't expect any change to that.
It sucks to be priced out of a PS5, but that's life. Hopefully, in a few years, I'll be in a better financial position to consider a PS5 (unlikely) or a Gaming PC (more likely).
As a PS4 owner, with no desire (or money) to upgrade to a PS5, this is actually great news. It's time for developers and publishers to leave behind the PS4 and X1 and really leverage the current gen hardware.
I don't mind being left behind. I'm not going to be salty that I can't play Returnal or Gotham Knights because they're not being hamstrung by also being available on an aging system.
This is really cool of Techland. I played Dying Light back in 2015, and enjoyed it for what it was. I completed The Following at the end of 2019, and it was a solid DLC IMO. I loved using the off-road buggy to mow down the undead hordes of greater Harran.
