Re: Horizon Forbidden West's Slitherfang Foe Looks Outrageous on PS5, PS4

Those animations are superb. I was wondering how they'd do this, but it seems that one of the tricks is having the snake to burry itself and move underground. That would probably save a lot of complex object tracking. And it also adds an additional gameplay element to the fight, because it can presumably pop up everywhere.

@fR_eeBritney What?! No. No, the disc drive is the right way up. If you place the PS5 sideways, the disc slot should be at the bottom. Insert a disc with the label upwards. If the PS5 is standing up, the disc label should be pointing towards the left side, naturally.

Re: New Uncharted Movie Trailer Shows Off Bombastic Action, Sully's Moustache

@get2sammyb Which is a problem, because that means they care more about making a quick profit, than making an actual good movie. Chasing a crowd that isn't even familiar with the series. Even if true, Uncharted was already 'cool', so I don't understand this casting choice. If anything, this feels a little underwhelming. The only thing that's missing here is Zendaya playing Chloe, and Robert Downey Jr. playing Sully.

Though he would've had a 'stache at least.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Could Have a Huge PS5, PS4 File Size Footprint

Octane

@johnny30 Not necessarily. File sizes can be smaller on PS5, but it has to be optimised for that. If they just copy the PS4 data, it wouldn't be any different.

The problem on PS4 is that the HDD is slow. An HDD has to physically move to access data, so to reduce load times, devs often keep all the files for a specific area or level close to each other, to minimise the distance the laser has to travel over the HDD. And therefore it makes sense to have many duplicates of certain files, even though you technically only need one. This problem is mostly mitigated with an SSD, so devs have an easier time compressing the file size.

Re: Sony Quietly Shaping Up After Indie Backlash Earlier in the Year

@Rural-Bandit Of course, I understand that they get paid for being on GamePass, but my question specifically was about the expectation. Any decent indie these days is expected to come to GamePass, do the devs really have a choice then? If they don't get on GamePass, they may lose out on big money.

I think it's just an interesting topic to think about, just like how Spotify is changing the way music is made, since artists get paid by number of streams, so shorter and more songs on an album are favoured over longer songs. I think Netflix works by pumping out dozens of shows a month, but little with high quality. Quantity over quality.

Re: Sony Quietly Shaping Up After Indie Backlash Earlier in the Year

@Rural-Bandit I seriously wonder if GamePass is always a good thing for indies. I've read quite a lot of comments "dismissing" indie games as "oh, this will be a GamePass title". Problem is that this creates an expectation where you don't have to buy indie games anymore, and they will be given to you for "free" as long as you're subbed. If those games don't end up being part of GamePass, how many people actually miss out on it, waiting for it to come to GP, and how many sales are the indie devs missing out on?

Re: Jurassic World Evolution 2 Turns Back Time with Early Cretaceous DLC

Would've been a cool game if it worked more like the classic zoo tycoon. And if the animals didn't look as outdated as disco music from the previous decennium.

Especially that pterosaur looks very unimaginative. I know it's the Jurassic Park aesthetic, but imagine if it looked something like this:
