Re: Poll: Are You Playing Wild Hearts?

RudeAnimat0r

The sales question is kind of weird because I imagine everyone has a different take on what selling well means, including EA and Tecmo Koei themselves. Do I think this game will sell MH World numbers? No, but I imagine it doesn't have to to do well for Tecmo Koei.

Some of my online MH friends think this game is pretty neat, so that's a good sign. I'll be skipping it since it's just not a genre I enjoy much. I got tired of MH World after 20 or so hours.

Re: Saints Row Sales Flop Forces Parent Company to Change Its Policy on New Games

RudeAnimat0r

I didn't play new Saint's Row, but not because of its direction or because it looked "bad", I've just grown out of the genre. I played SR3 and while I had some fun with it, I was really bored of the lack of mission variety by the end - this is a major issue with me and most open world games. My interest in New SR plummeted further after reviews came out and said the mission design hadn't evolved at all.

I think the comments about Volition alienating their fans are fair. They made a game that didn't really appeal to existing fans, but also didn't really make a game new enough to create new fans.

My biggest takeaways from this article are how does a project justify its own existence if it doesn't already exist? And I definitely worry about Volition's future as a studio. Saint's Row seems dead. Red Faction is dead. I don't see Embracer greenlighting a new IP from them.

I never loved their games, but they had a passionate audience. It just seems like these AA studios or whatever you want to call them can't exist in today's market.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Hogwarts Legacy?

RudeAnimat0r

I may buy this game when it's dirt cheap, but I am wrestling with indirectly giving Rowling her share of royalties on my purchase.

I'm not a huge HP fan at all. I enjoyed the movies and books enough, but it's my wife who's the big fan and even she has cooled on everything as an adult.

It sounds like a great game.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Be Worried by Live Service Implosion?

RudeAnimat0r

I think there should be concern with flooding the market with too many new live service offerings, especially when games that appeared to be relative successes, like Konockout City, close down.

I'm very interested in LoU Factions. I'm tentatively interested in an online Horizon game. I'm curious, at best, about a persistent online Twisted Metal. Maybe I don't have to play all of these games for them to be successes, but I would personally be a whole lot more likely to buy and play each if they were games designed to end from the get go.

I get I am not the target audience though.

Re: Poll: Was The Last of Us - Episode 3 the Best One Yet?

RudeAnimat0r

I thought the episode was excellent. I don't remember all the specifics from the game but I can guarantee an hour of Joel and Ellie throwing bricks at tripwires and land mines would not have been as moving.

This is exactly what I want out of the show. Expand the world and lore in new directions that fit the overall story.

Re: Sony's MLB The Show 23 Costs $70 on PS5, Nothing on Xbox Game Pass

RudeAnimat0r

Can we stop trying to make this story a "hot button" issue every year? Sony has been very clear about their intentions with first party games and MLB was very clear about taking the flagship MLB game multiplatform.

We don't know what their publishing and licensing deal looks like, but clearly whatever it is they've done it's working. People still buy The Show on PlayStation and players with Game Pass enjoy it on Xbox as part of their sub.

It will always be an odd situation, but it's clearly one no one intends on changing.

Re: Round Up: Forspoken's Divided Reviews Make for Some Rough Reading

RudeAnimat0r

I thought the demo was decent, but I had my concerns. The point that worries me the most in the review snippets is bland open world with little interesting to do. I thought her dialogue in the demo was too over the top but I could live with it, but if the fantasy world is bland then that's the real death knell.

I guess this will be the kind of game I randomly bjy for $10 used in 4 years.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5 Is Astonishing and a Massive Game

RudeAnimat0r

@AdamNovice This is not exactly an analogus comparison. Manhattan is a borough in the city and Gotham is a city. Spider-Man has plenty of stories in the other boroughs. Hell he shows up in Jersey City in Ms. Marvel stories.

I'd be worried about the scale of the game but I think they have to add other boroughs for 2 - at least Queens and Brooklyn. Who doesn't want to take Spidey to Coney Island?

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5 Is Astonishing and a Massive Game

RudeAnimat0r

@Mauzuri I like that it offered alternate gameplay, and I liked MJ as a character, sometimes more than Peter, honestly. The combat is fun in Spider-Man but the gameplay doesn't really evolve beyond web slinging Batman and at least in Arkham there is some investigating to break things up.

As has been said below MJ sections are straightforward. I don't remember getting snagged on any of them.

Re: HBO's Show Triggers a Meteoric Rise in The Last of Us Sales

RudeAnimat0r

My question with these figures is always how many units are we actually talking about here? I honestly have no idea how many copies bestsellers in the UK average. But like, a 322% increase sounds impressive but it's all relative! If it moved 100 copies last week and 322 copies this week... well that's a pretty small meteor!

Re: Granblue Fantasy Versus Sequel Adds New Story, Characters, Moves, Rollback Netcode, Crossplay in 2023

RudeAnimat0r

I played a little GBFV back on release and I quite enjoyed it. I never got any of the DLC characters so I don't feel like I've spent a load of money on it. I hope most of the original cast make it over.

The first game reminded my friend and I of a little played Arc Sys game, Battle Fantasia. As I don't suspect we'll ever get a BF2 this series will have to do.

Re: 'AAAA' Title The Callisto Protocol Reportedly Falls Short of Expected Sales Figures

RudeAnimat0r

I'll generally agree that 5m copies seems high for a new IP, unproven developer and a somewhat niche genre - unless you're Resident Evil. But the other thing is it came out in December, they didn't even get it out early enough in the holiday shopping season to give it a chance for truly big numbers.

I also don't think the game looked good. It never looked appealing to me, and I loved Dead Space! It looked dark, angry and stupid. It never made a compelling case for itself. And it absolutely looked like the inferior game compared to the forthcoming Dead Space remake.

Which also begs the question: what do we figure EA's projections for new Dead Space are? Will it meet them?

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for January 2023?

RudeAnimat0r

This is one of those times I wish there was a poll option that was like "Decent selection, but I own/played most of them already".

In a vacuum I'd be quite happy with Devil May Cry, Back 4 Blood and Life is Strange, but yeah, own/played all of them before. Even if Sayonora Wild Hearts was on here I've played that too

I guess I am most interested in DMC5SE since I played the PS4 version previously. Does anyone know if you can transfer your PS4 save to SE?

Re: Poll: Did You Buy One Piece Odyssey?

RudeAnimat0r

I've never seen One Piece but this game is appealing to me as a grand, traditional JRPG. I haven't really been into anime for a while though, especially not Shonen Jump-type stuff.

I'll keep an eye on this and if there's a gap in games I want to play I'll check it out.

Re: 60 Most Anticipated PS5, PS4 Games of 2023

RudeAnimat0r

Street Fighter 6 and Sea of Stars are my most anticipated. I don't think Alan Wake 2 will come out next year, nor FF7rebirth.

I know the list isn't exhaustive but it's surprising Tekken 8 isn't on here. Seems more likely than some of the others, even if it doesn't have a launch window.

Re: Game of the Year: #1 - God of War Ragnarok

RudeAnimat0r

I haven't played this and don't plan to anytime soon. 2018 was a great game that really defied my expectations. Ragna just looks like more of that game, which while I assume is also great, doesn't excite me.

I'll grab it when it's $30 or less.

Re: Fallout 76 - A Shockingly Bad Attempt at Multiplayer Survival

RudeAnimat0r

In the instance of increasing visibility I agree with everyone above. I don't think Fallout 76 is the best or anything, but I do think republishing a review that doesn't at least acknowledge that the game is very different than it was at launch is, at best illadvised, and at worst, deliberately misleading.

If you still thought the game was garbage upon reexamination that would be totally valid.

Re: Rumour: PS Plus Essential PS5, PS4 Games for January 2023 Leaked Early

RudeAnimat0r

Fallen Order is a game I liked a lot more than I expected to. It's worth a shot if you're on the fence - I don't care about Star Wars games generally at all and thought the main character was pretty generic, but it's a nice blend of Metroid, Uncharted and Dark Souls.

Axiom Verge 2 is the standout for me. I played a bit of the first and would definitely try the sequel.

I have 76 and it's not the train wreck people make it out to be. There's some fun to have in there. I've been meaning to reinstall it and wrap up the platinum, but the trophies I have left require me to kill other players or revive other players, so it's annoying.
