Re: Talking Point: Was Sony Right to Resist Adding PS5 Exclusives to PS Plus Day One?

RudeAnimat0r

The answer to this is very simple: Microsoft spent $70b on Activision, plus there's no way Starfield has turned a profit. If subscriptions don't continue to grow they need a lot more revenue, and forcing people to either upgrade to Ultimate or actually buy the games is certainly a way to go.

The problem with this model is some people might play CoD all year long until the next one. Paying for a subscription. That now costs $240/year at the monthly fee is significantly more than just buying CoD every year a la carte.

Re: Next Like a Dragon Title a Surprise for Fans, RGG Studio Teases

RudeAnimat0r

@Ravix First, I don't think Sega has the budget for that. The series is still fairly niche. Plus they are trying to annualize it, which means we should expect less radical alterations to the design going forward.

I guess I'm curious what you'd like to see them do to the city? Yes it's gamey, but like the whole series is insanely gamey. I'd argue that's part of the appeal. I'd love the game to have better writing and better animation, I think that would go a long way, but again I don't see that happening given the series's reach.

Re: Next Like a Dragon Title a Surprise for Fans, RGG Studio Teases

RudeAnimat0r

Definitely a spin off game again. Dead Souls 2 anyone?

No way are they changing from turn-based after only 2 games AND Infinite Wealth being the fastest selling game in the series globally.

I also saw some comments about making Like a Dragon true open world and I am not about that at all. You make a game that scale you need faster traversal methods, ie. cars, etc. You put your protagonist in a car and you're separating them from the city they live in. It's just a different game. Like a Dragon would need a drastic rethink structurally to be an open world game.

Re: SEGA's New Crazy Taxi Game Is Open World and Multiplayer

RudeAnimat0r

I always figured it would be both of these things, which I actually think can work well with CT's DNA. I don't think Crazy Taxi can work as it's old arcade game anymore, but lots of events that have the length of an arcade session is a perfect fit for updating it, and throw in other drivers, it's a great concept.

Now, let's see how it is executed...

Re: Round Up: We're All Sleeping on Capcom's Kunitsu-Gami, as Super Positive Previews Drop

RudeAnimat0r

Can we be sleeping on something that the publisher hasn't really effectively marketed?

I've always thought this game looked interesting, but they've done a terrible job communicating what it even is. I had no idea it has strategy elements until this round of previews. Capcom has just sort dropped little trailers alongside other large announcements, like they assumed it would be a failure.

Re: Poll: So, What Are Your Thoughts on Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

RudeAnimat0r

The PC Gamer preview didn't hold anything back. I'm no fan of the series so I don't have much of an opinion, but I do think it's interesting how far the pendulum swings with this series with each subsequent release.

I've played a decent amount of Origins and Inquisition and didn't particularly like either.

Re: Horror Hit Alan Wake 2 Is Getting a Retail PS5 Release Because You Wouldn't Shut Up About It

RudeAnimat0r

Reading the comments, everyone is so cynical about it going physical now. It sucks that it wasn't physical at launch, but Remedy was up front about not wanting to use more resources to make discs. They even said they were passing the savings onto players by charging $60 when it could easily have been a $70 game these days.

All the reports say the game still hasn't been profitable, but it makes sense for them now to invest in making a physical version. If spending a little more can help them move the needle into the black, coupled with the renewed interest of the DLC, it's a good risk for them to take.

I know businesses exist to make money, Remedy not excluded. I just feel like players thinking this was some elaborate ruse or tricking players is a bit ridiculous. Again, it's a bummer they didn't launch on disc - I would have bought one myself - but this doesn't feel all that calculated to me.

Re: Horror Hit Alan Wake 2 Is Getting a Retail PS5 Release Because You Wouldn't Shut Up About It

RudeAnimat0r

I'm happy this is finally happening but also bummed as an early adopter. Love this game and would love a an actual copy to sit on my shelf, but not dropping $80 to buy a bunch of stuff I've already paid for, including the base game, expansion pass AND AW Remastered

Still, hopefully holdouts take the plunge and this helps the game turn a profit. Because honestly, the most important thing to me is that Remedy gets to stay independent and weird.

Re: Reaction: Summer Game Fest 2024 Showcases AAA's Endless Winter

RudeAnimat0r

I think this is totally an expectations thing. Keighley went out of his way to set expectations, so if people stayed up late or were disappointed, it's on them.

He's also known for showing indie stuff and from newer developers, and he succeeded at that - we can certainly debate the quality of those new devs.

I did not personally see a lot of stuff that interested me, but frankly I never expected to. I got my SF6 season 2 (which is a major bummer IMO) and AW2 DLC (time to get my Sam Lake tattoo), and I found out about a few other things that looked neat. Did I need to watch a 2 hour show to do that? Eh, not really, but whatever, I'm too old to get all that salty about it.

Re: Big Discounts on PS Plus Subs, PS5 Consoles, and PSVR2 in Days of Play Promotion

RudeAnimat0r

The wording in the PS App makes it sound like you'll get the 30% off for upgrading when your current subscription ends, but the price they say you'll pay is the normal full price. I was considering upgrading to Premium, not be because I want it, but because with the discount it's less than regular price Extra. But apparently I just get 30% the rest of my existing sub? So I save 30% of $6 lol

What a bummer this is. I like Extra, and I think it's worth the price, but it's really a shame they don't give loyal subs anything. Even if they did like 15% off for people who want to stay put and 30% for new and upgrades.

Re: Key Sony Exec Gives Eye-Opening Quotes on the Future of PlayStation and Gaming

RudeAnimat0r

I mean I think studios have to move away from chasing the flashiest assets. However, continuing to improve emotional storytelling (great writing, animation) and personalizing experiences (programming multiple results to an interaction, or employing AI) likely aren't cheap either.

But he talks about reusing assets, so I think Sony is acknowledging games are taking too long to make and costing too much as a result.

Re: Strategy Legend Jake Solomon Explains Where Marvel's Midnight Suns Went Wrong

RudeAnimat0r

I'm playing this currently and love it, despite its flaws. I think the idea of deck building and cards does not have "mass appeal", I'll be honest I didn't follow the trailers and such after I heard it was that. But beyond that, I just don't think this is a game that was easy to explain or market, nor was basing a game around a Marvel B-team a great idea. I like Marvel, generally, but had no idea what a Midnight Sun was.

It's a bummer it flopped. I think there's a really solid core. It's been a fun ride.

Re: Rumour: Ubisoft Is Going All-In on Assassin's Creed with Black Flag Remake, Another Remake, Co-op Multiplayer Games, and More

RudeAnimat0r

As a casual Assassin's Creed fan I already feel like there are too many titles, so this doesn't do much for me. I've played 1, 2 and Odyssey. One of these games evert several years is more than enough for me.

I'm a little interested in Red, but with GoT and RotR around a feudal Japan open world game is no longer the novelty everyone wanted 10-15 years ago.

Re: Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, More Closed in Brutal Bethesda Restructure

RudeAnimat0r

Losing Tango and Arkane Austin is a major bummer. This is just another sign that major publishers see no market for these sub-AAAA titles. Redfall had to have done Arkane in, and I'd say it never felt like Ghostwire found an audience - plus it was included in both Game Pass and Plus.

Everyone is tightening their belts and doubling down on only the biggest franchises. It's sad.

Re: Sony Doubles Down on Helldivers 2 PSN Requirement by Taking It Off Sale for PC in Numerous Countries

RudeAnimat0r

Sony really toasted this game and community. I get it, in an entirely cold, detached sort of capitalism prevails kind of way, but this is just the worst possible way to have handled this situation.

The player's reactions are both justified and completely predictable. The idea that most players were actually aware they would need a PSN account is laughable. It's like assuming players read the EULAs when you install a new game - I literally have no idea what I am agreeing to.

And people saying players need to grow up and take the 5 minutes, this is like if you bought a PS5 game and then needed a Ubisoft account to play something. Would I do it? Probably, but I'll moan about it the whole time.

Re: Helldivers 2 PC Is Getting Review Bombed Over PSN Requirement

RudeAnimat0r

I think this is really unfortunate for the devs and the game. Helldivers has easily been the feel good gaming story of the year and this reaction is entirely predictable. Sony really dropped the ball here and this snafu will likely have major consequences for their live service business on PC going forward.

Re: Returnal Artbook and Graphic Novel Mark PS5 Game's Third Anniversary

RudeAnimat0r

Not sure why everyone is so miffed by them teasing the announcement yesterday. If you really thought they were going to announce a new game, well, that's on you.

I'm kind of interested in the artbook. I might have been interested in the comic, but it sounds like it's just the story of the game? I also really loathe animated trailers for comics. It's impossible to see what the actual book will look like and it's just not reflective of what you're buying.
