@Northern_munkey This sounds like defending an oil company because they pay another company to “plant trees”. Every single company has a charitable program, it’s part of PR. That doesn’t mean they’re a good company. Why should people mention the good things when it doesn’t really tell us anything about them beyond they’re a modern company when it comes to charity?
@gollumb82 Would recommend Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous if you want another expansive turn-based RPG, another excellent game by an excellent studio now working on a Warhammer CRPG.
Think I’m finally coming around to starting with a Sorc-based class as none of the Origin characters apply as far as I can tell. Sort/Fighter, Sorc/Paladin, Sorc/Bard, or something like that.
Imagine they’ll add a mirror or something like in DOS2. That said, I’m quite curious to see what little good bags they add to the game. DOS2 had some pretty cool and powerful mods that transformed a playthrough and they were sprinkled throughout time as little free DLCs.
Great idea. We’ve already had people fleeced on Kickstarter. AI could lead to a lot of generic shovelware being output with enough gloss to tempt people in. These projects should be the passion projects they always intended to be.
Tbh 4 hrs works for a single-shot experience. If it becomes too long you have to resort to tricks to extend the narrative for a single protagonist. This would feel natural. Interested if I can get a deal.
@themightyant Agreed. I played it on Master from the start and it was extremely frustrating sometimes. It was my choice, but it really dented my experience even after platting it. Amazing from a small dev outfit though.
Really dig the sound of her demo stuff. Interesting that Kevin Penkin follows her on Twitter, could easily see her helm some epic Made in Abyss style anime.
@Elodin That’s the bright side of having a month to wait for us, we should have some great builds waiting for us. I’m thinking of going custom but still can’t decide on a class. Fextralife and Mortismal Gaming have done some great overview and comparison videos on YouTube. Going through them atm.
I’m curious to see how this works. They’ve hinted that you can use it for good as well, but that there will be consequences. Could we literally turn into playable mindflayers, the way the Pathfindr let you become a dragon? Even if not, buzzing for this. Been going through the plot of BG1 & 2 again and quite looking forward to how it all ties in together.
Haven’t taken holiday yet this year, this seems like a decent reason to. Need to start planning some builds. Good thing for us console people is we’ll have a month of PC players optimising fun builds based on the full game. There should be some fun stuff to pick up.
Just feel like gameplay will get old pretty quick. There doesn’t seem to be a genuine variety in spells from what I’ve seen, they’re all variations of shooting with some defensive ones. But maybe the final game has more depth.
@Bunchesopuppies You can play the whole thing solo. I solo’d the first. People say it’s a lot harder on your own but I had specific builds in mind when I played so found it good fun, apart from a couple of infuriating bosses. They’ve actually added a character class that has an AI companion doggo for people who want an easier time playing solo. Looking forward to checking it out.
Previews have also started coming from those who got hands on at the panel and pretty much everything being said is positive, so that’s probably a huge factor too, especially since the previews are showing how much more there is beyond what was covered in early access.
@Mio_Nakashima True enough, but you’d be surprised, there’s not many games that take that long to platinum. I just finished Kena and that took me 16 hrs. I won’t bother if it’s too grindy and frustrating, or requires a commitment to online, so I make judgement calls because some platinums can actually negativley influence your experience of the game. Finishing Kena on Master difficulty showed me how ***** some of the boss mechanics were, for instance. Probably wouldn’t have noticed on Story mode, but I’d do feel like I’d mastered the combat by the end.
Agree with the incentives for trophies but on the other hand having no incentives means it’s truly optional since there’s nothing to gain. If you add a bonus to it, some people may feel obligated to do it even when they’re not.
@Flaming_Kaiser oh 100%. For instance, Pathfinder WotR and Divinity OS2 are some of my favourite games, but I didn’t platinum them because of how long it takes and having to play on the tactician difficulties. More a rule of thumb I guess. I almost never bother if there are online trophies.
@Mio_Nakashima I tend to platinum games I really enjoy, not because I want the digital trophy, but because trophies are usually a decent way to check you’ve experienced as much of what the game has to offer, sometimes forcing you to engage in mechanics you might actually not use much.
When I platinum a game, I can put it away knowing I’ve done everything I’d want to do in a game I enjoyed.
@RadioHedgeFund It does though. The Druid mentions the this happens to him involuntarily sometimes, and despite him being the one to arrange this meet-up wants to cancel it out of embarrassment. This is basically showing him that you accept him, but in a funny and silly way. It’s an RPG for god’s sake, you can make it mean what you want in the story of the character you’re playing, they’re just giving you options, you don’t have to pick it.
We need to know what happened on that night out. How do you lose it sitting at a bar? There’s more going on here, possibly involving animals, drugs and a colourful cast of characters.
They over-promised and under-delivered. The fact that you say there are aspects of the game you need to rebuild is never a good thing. This worries me that they haven’t learned at all and people are all too willing to let them slide now.
Why? There’s quite a bit of repetition in dungeons anyway, just let people optimise. Nothing worse than nerfing a single player experience if it’s not game breaking. It’s convenience.
I was initially worried they would gloss over the issues in that industry but the fact they highlighted it in a funny way is brilliant, satirising it and exaggerating it to great effect. Hope this game does well.
I think we need to stop calling this an RPG because it sets the wrong expectations. It’s a good action game and looks like it will get better, and while they will fix some of the RPG elements, that doesn’t mean it becomes an RPG because it’s not really built that way. There’s nothing wrong with it being a great action game and saying it’s going to be the RPG we dreamed of is exactly what set people against this game at launch when they went in expecting a huge world changing RPG with deep systems.
Looks promising but I’m very suspicious about Ubisoft gameplay videos. We should all remember what happened with the Watchdogs games. Cautious, but interested, although the gunplay doesn’t look great tbh, and I have a feeling much of the ship action will be scripted.
@Uncharted2007 Good lord, what cities exactly are crumbling because of crime? What examples? Please read something other than reactionary takes and news articles from dubious sites. Just google 7-myths-about-defunding-the-police-debunked, Brookings have a short article you can read on it.
@Uncharted2007 I’m sorry but this is a terrible take I’d usually expect to see on Twitter. Do you honestly believe the Defund the Police movement is anti-police in principle? The whole movement is about what it says on the box - defunding the police by taking some of the money spent on military provisions and using it to supplement police action with support from social workers and mental health professionals, and in general bettering police training. Unless this game purposefully promotes police brutality, there won’t be much of a backlash. I’m actually quite intrigued by this game. These reactionary takes are not helpful.
Enjoyed the first far more than I expected so really looking forward to this. Liked everything that I’ve seen so far and curious to see where the narrative is going given the ending of the first.
@jgrangervikings1 Think I know what you mean. I watched a lot of great reviews on it but thought “meh, will wait for a <£20 sale”. But then I played it during its free trial week and loved it. I think once you get into the system, it feels great, but maybe it’s just something that’s not come across gameplay and trailers. It’s such a shame it’s not doing well because this game format is practically screaming out for an X-men sequel that improves on a lot of the rough aspects, but we’ll likely never get one. Some of the later hero one-to-ones you can have are really great and show they do understand the characters and lore.
@jgrangervikings1 Midnight Suns literally has a unique battle system. Not sure how much more innovation people want from a TRPG, but I think it’s extremely unfair to suggest the combat system in Midnight Suns is a rehash. If it’s not for you, fair enough but saying it isn’t new seems unfair.
@Jamesblob I think what they mean is that you should be able to buy game codes from elsewhere that you can reclaim on the PSN. I actually agree, as then you’re not subject to only Sony’s pricing for digital games. Standard for pc.
