@Westernwolf4 That’s so cool to hear my brother. My wife isn’t a gamer at all either, but like you, we support and lean on each other wherever possible. It’s her 49th birthday this month and our 28th anniversary in January, so I need to start thinking about presents. If only she were a gamer, too. It’d be so easy to buy for her! 😂
Oh and me too, I can’t wait for TLOU TV show. It’s looking like it’ll be awesome. After Zelda, I’d say that TLOU is pretty much my favourite game series. In fact, I really don’t get the hate for Part II. I absolutely adored every single minute of the 30 hours it took me to beat the game. I may even replay it once I’ve beaten Part I.
The Last of Us Part I for me this weekend. My amazing wife bought it for me as a surprise earlier this week. Even after nearly 28 years of marriage, she never ceases to surprise me. Anyway, I adored Part II when I finally got around to playing it at the back end of last year, but I never managed to finish the PS4 remaster of the first game. Guess life got in the way at the time.
However, I started Part I yesterday, playing the opening hour or two. Yes, it’s extremely expensive for what it is, but it also happens to be one of the best games ever made, and it’s also incredibly gorgeous. I’m having a great time with it so far.
Whatever game you’re playing on whatever system you have, I wish everyone an amazing weekend of gaming!
While not the greatest update ever, the best racer on console still goes from strength to strength, and GT7 remains my game of the year so far. Though I could see God of War Ragnarok beating it to the chequered flag before the fat lady sings Auld Lang Syne!
I have one of these, though not the PS branded one. Just the standard black version. Personally speaking, I absolutely love the thing. However, my internet must be pretty useless, as playing remote play via my PS5 is oftentimes extremely janky and slow, resulting in a rather frustrating experience. Even when I’m in the same room as the console.
No, I mainly got mine for native ports of console games. Titles like Dead Cells, Transistor, GRID Autosport and The Witness are literally transformed into genuinely fantastic handheld experiences thanks to the Backbone. The original mobile version of Horizon Chase Turbo is far better thanks the physical controls, too. Especially the analogue triggers.
If that’s what you mainly want it for, I say go for it, you definitely won’t regret your purchase. But if it’s purely for PS5 remote play? Just make sure your internet connection is up to the task. If it is, you’re in for a real treat and as close to a Vita successor as we’re likely to get.
It’s great to see a strong PS5 contingent in the charts. Shame that GT7 just misses the top ten this week, but it’ll hit the accelerator and be back soon, I’m sure.
I put this on my wishlist the second I saw it as 'upcoming' on the PSN store, and I’ll pick it up post haste. I’ve always been intrigued by Inscryption, and I can’t wait to finally get to play it. As it stands, I know very little about the game, and that’s the way it’ll stay until I experience it for myself.
Having bought and played it extensively on mobile, PS4 and Switch, I’m a big fan of Horizon Chase Turbo, so I’ll definitely pick up Horizon Chase 2 when it eventually arrives on console.
@GuyProsciutto Erm, you’re really paraphrasing there, my friend. I absolutely know that WROEF is a game I want, nay, need to play. I just haven't found the time to do so due to a couple other games taking up a lot of my spare time and real life stuff.
Just so happens that I’m pretty much ready to play it now, and wondered if people who’ve played the game think the PS5 version would be worth the double-dip. In simple terms; should I buy Edith Finch on PS5 or will the Switch version I already own suffice for this particular game?
Genuine question – I’ve had this in my Nintendo Switch backlog for a couple months now. Should I play it on my OLED model now, while I’m still away on holiday, or just wait until I get home next weekend, pick it up from the PSN store and play it on PS5 instead?
Folders? Now that’s what I’m talking about. However, ideally I’d really want them to be on the Home Screen much like the way PS4 had them. Either that or make them the default page when switching over to the library screen.
Either way, I’m just happy we didn’t have to wait as long as we did with Nintendo Switch to get folder support. That took five long years and it’s still rubbish!
Oh and one last little gripe; when we first got our PS5’s, the game icons/tiles were ace. Then we had an update that changed them to match PS4 icons. Some, like Deathloop and Sackboy: A Big Adventure for instance are downright horrible, and others like the Spider-Man games are a definite downgrade. I just wish Sony would change them back.
@Shepherd_Tallon I really want to play NieR Automata, too. But now that a Switch version has been announced for release in October, I don’t know whether to wait and play it there instead. I know playing on PS5 will be better, but as the game requires multiple playthrough’s, I’m thinking that portability may well be a particular strength on this occasion. What to do? Arrrgh.
If it doesn’t have a free upgrade path, they could at least do something similar to Uncharted and GTA5 on PS5 – existing owners pay a small one-time fee to upgrade. I did it with those games, but I won’t pay full price, even for P5R.
@nathanSF Of course I respect your opinion, but I wholeheartedly disagree with you my friend. I have quite severe Crohn’s disease, am often in extreme pain and have needed several bowel resection operations. Whenever I’m in a lot of pain or on all fours throwing up in the bathroom in the middle of the night for instance, our family cat is always with me. He even taps my hand or face with his paw and makes little whining sounds, which to me, indicates he’s worried about me.
My wife was never a cat person and even she adores him. She even takes him out for rides in the car. Though in general, I agree that cats are far more selfish than dogs. My daughter has a Pomeranian, who’s sole purpose appears to make her laugh and hug him. Whenever I see him though, all I tend to think of is how much I’d like Tokyo Jungle on PS5. As for Stray however, I’m really looking forward to it.
I’m back into Returnal in a BIG way. Having not played it for a few months, I’d genuinely forgotten how gorgeous it is to look at and super fun it is to play. Easily one of the best Playstation exclusives around.
On Switch, meanwhile, I’ve restarted Breath of the Wild, which I’m really enjoying.
@TheDarkSide @solocapers Thanks so much for the advice guys! I’ll certainly look into those options as I’d love the chance to play my racing games (especially GT7) with a proper racing wheel.
I know Biomutant didn’t review too well when it initially released, but have the issues improved since then? If I do happen to pick it up in a future sale, I’ll be going with the 1440p/60fps performance mode for sure.
I finished HFW a month or so ago and haven’t been back in since. This is the second update since then, so I’ll be sure to pop back and mop up some side quests to see the improvements for myself. Just wish my 4K TV supported VRR and 120Hz.
Aside from God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part I and of course Stray, this may not be the most popular of choices, but I’ve gone for Persona 5 Royal and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. There’s no massive reason as to why, but I love a good old native PS5 patch/port.
@TheDarkSide Fantastic race! I was literally on the edge of my seat for nearly half of it. Really wanted to see Lewis on the top step of the podium, but it was still nice to see Sainz get his maiden win in F1.
@Jey887 Same here, I got stuck at three cells, too, but now I’ve managed to get my fifth. The latest patch is a really cool and considered adjustment from the devs.
@Jey887 You can tweak the difficulty, which has allowed me to progress where I was previously stuck. I’ve bought all the DLC as it released and now I can enjoy it to the fullest. Go back in, you’ll really appreciate the nuances to the difficulty.
I had my second Covid vaccination yesterday and I’m feeling pretty rough, but it will not deter me from tackling Cuphead’s exquisite Delicious Last Course. Speaking of DLC, I’m also back into the fabulous Dead Cells in a pretty big way. The recent update really helps progression.
My wife is at work, so I’m also about to watch the first of the last two Stranger Things Season Four episodes right now. With all the ramped up horror elements, it’s by far the best season yet.
Really looking forward to this, but will probably pick it up on Switch as I may not be able to wait for the inevitable PS5/PS4 release. I’m a big fan of Rex Crowle too, so it’s good to know he done the art for the game.
I’m still working through my backlog, and concentrating on some older games that I never got around to playing at release.
I started the incredible Resident Evil 2 (PS5) for the first time a few days back, and should have it wrapped up today. Once that’s done, I’m rather excited to start Red Dead Redemption 2 and hopefully have it finished before I go on holiday in the middle of next month. Oh and if I have time, I’ll also give the new Gran Turismo 7 update a quick once over!
@themightyant Oh you’re absolutely right, brother. I just like seeing the little white PS5 logo next to the game icons on my homescreen. Lol. Other than that, maybe 120fps or even faster loading?
@Bismarck Well I’ve bought most of Sony’s new PS5 games at launch for full price and I’m certainly not annoyed in the slightest to see them on sale at later date. Especially when I’ve already enjoyed hundreds of hours of quality content. I really don’t get your problem?!
I’m still on the fence whether or not to buy Premium for a couple months, but in the meantime, I’m lucky enough to have the majority of these games loaded up onto my PS5.
Unfortunately, I missed most of the PS4 generation, but since picking up Sony’s latest console a few months after it launched, I’ve played what are now two of my favourite ever games, namely The Last of Us Part II and God of War 2018. I also finished Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut last month and loved it so much that I even got the platinum trophy. And I really don’t usually go for those. I’m currently playing the Resident Evil 2 remake for the first time and having an absolute blast, but once that’s wrapped up, I’ll be moving on to either Red Dead Redemption II or Persona 5 Royal.
Once they’re done and dusted, if there’s nothing else new to play, I may well go with one of the new tiers and finally get around to playing some of the rest of the PS4 library that I’ve been wanting to play, such as Days Gone, Gravity Rush 2, The Last Guardian and WipEout Omega Collection. I’m gutted that I never had the chance to play these games when they originally released, but I sure am having a blast checking them off my backlog. Plus, Astebreed looks right up my street, too!
Excellent news! I’ve been waiting for some new menus to work through, and the Toyota 86 Collection is one I’m really looking forward to. I’ll always take new tracks, too. The best caRPG just gets better and better.
Having finished most of my newer games, I’m currently working through my backlog, concentrating on older major releases, that for one reason or another, I never actually got around to playing.
After the most enjoyable week of gaming, I finished the incredible God of War (2018) yesterday, which I absolutely adored. I then started the PS5 upgrade for Resident Evil 2, after which, I’ll be moving on to Red Dead Redemption 2. Hey, better late than never, right?
Meanwhile, over on Xbox, I’ve downloaded TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge from Game Pass, which I’m really looking forward to trying out. Probably between RE2 and RDR2.
God of War meets Red Dead Redemption, and I’m into it in a big way! Evil West has been on my radar since it was first announced, but this gameplay has really cemented it as a day one purchase for me.
Final Fantasy VII Remarkable That They’re Charging £70 a Pop for Three Games that Should’ve Been One? Just kidding. Well, kinda. Or how about Final Fantasy VII Rejoice if They Get it Out Before 2030?
Very strange embargo, that. Particularly with it being just 48 hours and on the Japanese titles only. What, do they think that gamers would go straight out and pick up an Xbox instead of a PS5 purely on the strength of that alone? Sure, it could influence a purchase decision, but not within two short days. Very weird indeed.
Precisely the reason I went back to physical purchases this generation. All my PS4 and Switch games are digital, but my big AAA games on PS5 are boxed copies. Yeah, it’s a hassle switching discs around, but I’m still happy that I took the physical route this time.
In preparation for Ragnarok, I’m about 20 hours into my debut playthrough of God of War (2018). Why did it take me this long to play such a masterpiece? I absolutely love the game. Other than that, I’m occasionally dipping into Returnal (for the first time in several months) for the odd run, as well chalking off the last couple of menus in the fabulous Gran Turismo 7.
Fantastic news. I’m currently playing through God of War (2018) for the very first time. I’m probably about 18 hours in and absolutely loving it, so I can’t wait for Ragnarok. If it does happen to launch in November, Sony will have had a very strong year in my opinion.
January: Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
February: Horizon Forbidden West
March: Gran Turismo 7
September: The Last of Us Part I
November: God of War Ragnarok
Watched the whole thing… except for the 20mins where I literally fell asleep. Despite the strong finale (which was completely spoiled literally two hours before the show had even started) and the awesome Callisto Protocol gameplay, SGF was pretty much exactly what I expected – utter mediocrity. Oh and don’t even get me started on that weird Dwayne Johnson cringe fest!

I picked OneShot up on Switch yesterday and am looking forward to giving it a try real soon.

Precisely the reason I went back to physical purchases this generation. All my PS4 and Switch games are digital, but my big AAA games on PS5 are boxed copies. Yeah, it’s a hassle switching discs around, but I’m still happy that I took the physical route this time.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 430
Re: God of War Ragnarok PS5, PS4 Release Date Targeting November
Fantastic news. I’m currently playing through God of War (2018) for the very first time. I’m probably about 18 hours in and absolutely loving it, so I can’t wait for Ragnarok. If it does happen to launch in November, Sony will have had a very strong year in my opinion.
January:
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
February:
Horizon Forbidden West
March:
Gran Turismo 7
September:
The Last of Us Part I
November:
God of War Ragnarok
Re: Final Fantasy 7 25th Anniversary Broadcast Announced for 16th June
I still have Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade to play. Like most of us, there’s just so much in my backlog right now.
Re: Poll: Was Summer Game Fest Live a Show to Remember?
Watched the whole thing… except for the 20mins where I literally fell asleep. Despite the strong finale (which was completely spoiled literally two hours before the show had even started) and the awesome Callisto Protocol gameplay, SGF was pretty much exactly what I expected – utter mediocrity. Oh and don’t even get me started on that weird Dwayne Johnson cringe fest!
