PS5 Horizon Forbiden West PSN finally discounted it last week so picked it up. Brings all the triple A polish expected from Playstation Studios and am enjoying the story. Found the first one good, if not great...this one feels about the same so far.
Switch Diablo 3 Coming to the end of Act 2. Play it on mute while wife is watching Love Island. Not much to say, am enjoying hacking through enemies and levelling up...its starting to feel a little same-y, so might take a break.
Quest 2 Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy Edge Went back into this to finish Part 2 of the campaign. Coming off RE4 VR, which had incrediably polished user experience and item placement, this really feels cluttered and frustrating, espcially when your in a firefight and guns wont pick up. The game has nice production, and looks amazing on the quest, but is let down by those issues slightly...hopefully they'll amend for the PSVR2 version.
@PegasusActual93 exactly. Its been the only way Ive been able to bring down the nintendo first party stuff from their uniform 33 pound sales price. This will help put a dent in that 70 pound price tag from new releases on PSN hopefully.
PS4
Hong Kong Massacre
This is basically Hotline Miami meets Max Payne. Tough game, but once it clicks, you'll be stylishing wasting fools like no ones business. Just near the end, will finish tonight.
Switch
Planet Alpha
Overlooked platformer. Is bloody gorgeous, and an engaging and immersive title. Dead simple but really enjoying so far, sortve a hybird of Another World's setting with Limbo's playstyle.
Quest 2
Resident Evil 4 VR
The original is likely my favorite game ever made, of course its showing its age, but playing in VR completly refreshes it. Its easier, since you can aim and move, and dual wield, but hell if it isn't as fun, and possibly even better. Been having an absolute blast with it, would be great to see more same era games be ported to Quest 2...GTA San Andreas VR has shot up in my excitment book now.
@Uncharted2007 some valid points but on the flip side Sony's radio silent makes any small nugget of info given, feel like a drop of water to someone in the desert. People are constantly speculating and theorising what they plan next (e.g this article)...how can they be left behind when their constantly on everyones mind? The alternative would be what Xbox is going through this year by revealing pretty much everything, then getting egg on their face from delay upon delay, PS4 went through similar problems and Sony likely reversed their reveal policy due to this.
This is a day 1 for me, cannot wait! I'm a big fan of VR, but the last 2 years have been dire for it. PSVR2 is going to bring back some serious juice, 2023 can't come soon enough (lets hope they have stock).
@Shepherd_Tallon its an intresting point, i mean Jack Tretton was technically more of a numbers guy then Ryan even, but came across great in public, his humble E3 apoligy for the PS3 outage was major factor in reparing the damage, something that Ryan would struggle with. Im not big hater on Ryan myself, i fully agree, their all about the profit, but people like Layden was a 'creative' in the field, therefore came across geniune with his steps and made innovative moves for the industry. That said, im just surprised with anyone that goes with Tencent because of the moral implications, espcially when Layden stepped away at a peak time for playstation because he wasnt pleased where the industry was going.
I didnt see that coming. Had crazy love for Layden and feel he was a visionary creative force for the PS4, but being involved with nefarious Tencent is the eqivalent of burying your head in a pile of money.
It was good for sure, if not the blockbuster showcase everyone is waiting for. One thing though, they are really getting the formula of these down pat, no annoying presenter, no boring filler, wall to wall solid content worthy of a showcase (with a surprise like Ishin thrown in)...others take note pls.
I had my expectations in check, but this was good regardless. This is 2 for 2 now, they've really got their pacing and prioritys solid with these showcases. No cheesy presenters, no filler BS, just wall to wall bangers. Plus a geniune surprise like Ishin...really enjoyed it.
I'm pretty burned out on the franchise, i used to pick the entries up on release but hit an end point with Odyessy, despite it being a strong entry, the Ubisoft formula is so played out. In my opinion the best thing to do is to put this on hiatus for a good while...but this is the publishers cash cow, so we're getting 10 different variations to see what sticks instead.
Outside the big 3, ill just wait for the trailer recap articles on these 'showcases'. The Disney one was really the last straw for me...what a waste of time.
Im out of the country so its Switch only, been cycling between these 3 games:
Ace Attorny Trilogy Coming up to the last episode on first game, wow truly love it. Blown my mind about what a visual novel could be. The humor is adorable and silly, but the investigations and trials will have you on the edge of your seat.
Diablo 3 Feels great on the portable space. Never played any entry before, but have played games that we're inspired by the series so it feels familar. Just feels great to go out, kick all sorts of ass and grab loot. Felt a bit easy so upped it to Expert, am on level 20 halfway through Act 1.
Yooka Laylie and the Impossible Layer Love myself 2D platformers (much more then 3D collecathons) and this one does alot right. Although really could do without all the hub puzziling etc...it just feels like filler.
Hate Jim all you want, but this is a smart business move. Xbox has the spotlight on them to push this contract through, and Ryan stirring the pot is going to force them to give a better deal. Im not his greatest fan, but this what they hired him to do...
Nothing to be upset about. If sony want to make mobile games on the side, they bought a studio to make them, their not diverting current resources to it...would you prefer they made naughty dog or insomniac to waste their time on them?
@KidBoruto thats a strange way to phrase it then. Dark Horse has published several comic liscenses (Buffy, Aliens, Star Wars), as well as published original IP (Sin City, Hellboy, Concrete), not to mention dabbled in film production and (briefly) in video games - to say their only in charge of managing a brand like Buffy is not really accurate..espcially when its FOX (now owned by Disney) that manages the brand. The article does a great job in descriping the relevance of all Embracer's other assests, just thought to point this out for a possible better edit, since Dark Horse is a major get for these guys.
@Stragen8 you cant go wrong with the first as a starting point, its the best in my view. The second is more of the same but with nicer graphics, but still enjoyable. Death of the Outsider is more of a expansion pack syle experience, it was just ok, not much more. If you enjoy stealth games, and intresting worlds (e.g Bioshock) i'd recommend grabbing the first 2. There not for everyone though.
Im very skeptical about what Keighly has to offer after two Summer Fests. Its not fully his fault, the industry is in a pending state, and he tries his best to make it a show regardless..but there isn't content to showcase at the moment.
I had a lot of fun with Empire of Sin recently, as i completed it on game pass. it was rough round the edges but pretty addictive...although i heard its launch condition was pretty terrible, its current state works just fine.
Yeah i can see their taking a page out of nintendo's book with the retro classics subscription model; a small amount every month, so don't expect a flood of content from them. Only difference is nintendo's subscription is dirt cheap and Sony has it as their higher tier. I'm intrested in checking it out but will wait for it to fill up first.
Awesome, been holding out on Crash 4 for a while, this will be great. Man of Medan is...meh. i actually think the other Dark Picture games are much better then prople give credit, but i really can't defend that first entry, its mediocre and big stumble back from Until Dawn. Anyhow i guess if you were curious, this is a painless way to try it. No intrest in Arcadegeddon, it aint my thing at all. Its a good month for me though cause of Crash.
"It's a very interesting situation; we can't recall another example of one game completely replacing its predecessor in this manner."
...Destiny 1 with Destiny 2, no?
@Mgene15 if u have a PS5 you can play the remake. Having played both versions its defintely the superior version personally. Outside the obvious graphics upgrade, its control response, character animations and jank is really improved.
@Titntin im in UK too, I received email coms last month concerning the new service, not sure why you wouldn't - are you a current PS Plus user?. The service releases today in North America, UK release is on the 23rd, hopefully by then the dashboard will put more emphasis on the switch over.
@BritneyfR_ee well done, yep last segments in world 1 will test you but just stack up on healing and at that level you'll do fine. The Penetrator boss is one of my favorites, once you key into his rhythem he's simple. And if you don't want it to end...do like i did, dive into Dark Souls afterwards, its demon souls' unoffcial sequel in many ways.
@BritneyfR_ee good luck on world 5, the levels themselves are quite challenging, but at least all of the bosses are pretty easy. Glad your enjoying, it was my first Soulsborne and it got me hooked on the games.
PS5
Foul Play
Am clearing up my ps plus backlog and randomly tried this title. Man, if you like beat em ups, this game is incrediable. Its premise and setting is offputting but the combat is so addictive and tasty. What a gem, really happy to come across this one.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
One of my gaming shames is never having played this one. Finally giving it good go after some false starts. Doesnt feel dated, asides from stats and inventory, so many modern games have taken from this that its easy to pick up. Currently at the Doppleganger boss.
Quest 2 via PC
Wizards: Dark Times
Not a very deep campaign, pretty much linear combat scenarios with some climbing, plus the music and sound design is budget - but good lord is the spell casting fun! So much variety to mix up combos and cast types. Reminds me of that PS Move game Sorcery...but actually delvers on the motion control spell promise.
I got mine in the UK by following a twitter channel that sends out a post when sites get stock updates. If you don't want to pay scalpers on principle (as i did) you can get one like this, it'll just take abit of effort...but trust me, it will work.

@Rob_230 ironically, Nintendo pulled a similar move with the N64 and had all major JRPG makers migrate to the PS1.
