It was great, best one in a good while. There were enough reveals and payoffs to stuff thats been brewing. Only way it couldve been topped was a Ragnarok date...but im assuming that will get its own show later on.
@Ryany yeah i love part 4 as well, its in my top 3 best games ever, but to say that 4 and 8 are nothing alike is a bit of stretch. In fact, it feels like a blatent attempt from Capcom to combine 7s gameplay with several aesthetic elements of 4. Both share similar isolated rural European villages, both are highly influenced by classic gothic horror (unlike the other entries which are influenced by 80s genre cinema), both start the games with frantic swarm of enemies rushing you, and also 8 brings back the mercent which first apppeared in part 4 and quickly disappeared from the series since. When i say its a blend of 4 and 7, im talking on a superfical level, its not a reflection on quality. However i am enjoying it so far, but as you warned, things dip after the castle section.
PS5 Shadow of the Colussus remake Its been odd revisiting this one. The original blew me away, and how could it not? There was nothing like it at the time. It subverted the openworld, action/adventure and platformer genre in one go, and created a haunting, emotional experience. Since then though, so many games have copied it thats its not as special and a little slight. Regardless, this is a great way to relive it via Bluepoints control and visuals.
Resident Evil 8 Returned to this one, am at the castle. Cool blend of 7 and 4, love that the merchent mechanic is back too...only critique is that i just prefer RE in third person.
PC Game Pass Zero Escape: The Nonary Games Streaming this to my phone, and touch controls are well done. This one is a cracker, awesome premise and involving puzzles.
Im mixed. None of these games are crying out for adaptions. Something like Last of Us or God of War are such cinematic experiences already, the only plus side i see of the show is watching it with people who don't touch games, and sharing it with them. Something like Twisted Metal is lot more flexiable for adaptation, so could be fun. If any are good, ill watch, if any suck, i still have the games...at the end of the day, im perfectly fine if none of these existed either.
@Blackmagehobbit they killed it because Dino Crisis 3 was horrendous...still enough time has passed at this point. And their 2 hybird inspirations, Juarassic Park meets RE, are popular again.
The Extra tier is fantastic if your new to PlayStation or dont own most first-party, but thats not me. Im intrested in the retro stuff, and am quite pleased with the Nos style additions (plus the linked backlog), but for right now the titles they showcased havent grabbed me yet...most were already on PS Now already. Still I'm pleasently surprised and will give it a shot at some point, just not in a rush to join day one.
PS5 Destiny 2 Got back into this only recently so a whole bunch of lore and content is vaulted, however, doesnt matter. Gameplay is so slick, Legendary difficulty in co op is just the right level of challenge with fun. Am proper hooked on this for the first time.
PC Game Pass Trek to Yomi Love it. Am a huge Kurosawa fan, and while this is bit more genre pulpy then his output, the visual style is on point. The combat, is quick and addictive and levels are jawdropping. Play this game people, its fantastic!
Switch No More Heroes 2 Ovef halfway. Big improvment over the first, enjoying it alot so far.
Played majority of their stuff and its a mixed bag. Layers of Fear 1 was great on launch but a little dated now, Blair Witch was meh, and The Medium is really disappointing (was excited for an old school survival horror homage, but it was just boring). Observer, however, is awesome, and a fantastic swan song for Hauer. For those curious about their backlog, having them on a subscription service is a good place to give them a look actually.
Switch No More Heroes 2 Just burned through the first game over last week - had played it back on the Wii and its a deserved cult classic despite its extreme rough edges. First time trying the sequel and its a highly improved version of the original. Gone is the boring commuting, the tasks are actually fun and the combat much smoother. Also the wackiness is more consistent and amusing. Really enjoying so far.
Quest 2 Half-life Alyx Over the halfway point. Such a great title, slightly bummed due to some tech glitches its not always smooth, will prob replay it on the inevitable PSVR 2 port.
PC GAME PASS Guardians of the Galaxy Got Trek to Yumi downloaded and ready to go but figured I'd knock this one off the backlog first. Kind of happy Eidos Montreal looks to have found a better home and this title is more likely to get a sequel, its really impressive so far.
Well that sucks, it looks like Sony will lose this gens top slot, all due to lack of chips...in fact they already kindve have and 2 more years will really kill momentum. Upside is maybe it will make them hungry again...heres hoping.
@KilloWertz oh, your just before the last world then. Use the journal to teleport back to any spots your missing dragons and you can wrap it pretty quick.
@KilloWertz yh i had a similar experience with spyro, started it all hyped after finishing Crash N Sane trilogy but it was a much different game. I didnt touch it for a year again, but then got back into it while i was struggling with Returnal. Its pretty enjoyable as a switch your brain off detour while playing something more demanding...just dont expct more then a colorful collectathon with cool looking levels.
Thats a weird coincidence, i just finished last night. What an experience, such slick combat and fantastic atmosphere. That grind though almost broke me a couple times, close to quitting...glad i stuck with it, it was worth it.
Well this week finally finished Returnal, what a relief! A relentlessly tough but a one-of-a-kind experience, even in the roguelite space it feels quite unique. Im going to play some easier games before diving into Elden Ring finally.
PS5 Resident Evil Villiage Started this one up and finished the first werewolf attack. Such a cool blend of RE4 with RE7. Only thing that annoys me is it would be incrediable in VR, in fact it feels built for it. Im guessing this will come out for the PSVR2, but at that point ill have already completed.
Quest 2 Ninja Legends Short and simple arcade-y wave slasher with nonstop ninjas. Lots of fun if pretty damn challenging in the later stages. Will prob wrap over the weekend.
Half-life Alyx Paused my intial playthrough due to airlink streaming issues. Now playing via Virtual Desktop and its been slightly better. Am at the halfway point.. what else can i say? Its a masterpiece. Still have to pinch myself that im playing a new game by Valve.
Pretty annoying, i actually wanted to renew my subscription for a month to finish a couple games in the backlog that will be deleted mid May and it keeps coming up with errors...wonder if there related?
UPDATE: yep, thats confirmed it. Thats extremly irratating considering i wasnt planning on stacking, just renewing for a month so i can beat some of the titles leaving mid May.
PS5 Returnal Moved back to this one and was able to wrap the fourth biome without much stress. Now the fifth enviroment is really kicking my ass. At least theres no boss in it, but yh...tough. The light is at the the end of tunnel, I'm in the last quarter, hopefully I can finish this week, as naive as that sounds.
PC Game Pass Outriders Convinced a mate to co op this with me and what a blast. Love the mechanics and the tough but fair action thats like Gears of War mixed with Infamous. Really enjoying the grind so far, although at the halfway point i worry the campaign will get repetitive, for now, im having a ton fun.
Quest 2 Tetris Effect Gave this one a random spin and its a really addictive twist on an age old formula. Its really cool how theyve taken the aesthetics of a rhythem game and combined it with tetris without comprimising its core appeal...in fact it adds to it more then anything.
Intresting news, no doubt this is linked to premium tier. Never played any of them and always was was curious. This is the sort of legacy content i can get onboard with.
Why cant they do both? I love Sony's single player triple-A experiences, in fact its my favorite type of game experience, which is why ive invested in their consoles since PS2. I dont think theres a risk of them abandoning these trademark games just because they want to invest in live service. Im not into live service games but theres no doubt they can be very successful, and if Sony is succesful with it, then it helps them to prosper and create the type of experiences i prefer to play. They've never said they would abandoned what their championed for...in fact , why on earth would they? Its not a case of one over the other, why are we pretending like it is?
@misak192 if your looking for something completly nuts and criminally overlooked to play on PS NOW, give Asuras Wrath a spin. Its kind of like Dragon Ball Z meets Heavy Rain. Its one of a kind, the first 10 mins will let you know if your onboard for it or not, so worth a look if your bored this weekend.
PS5 Destiny 2 After writting this one off at launch, a mate of mine convinced me to get back in. We've been doing Witch Queen expansion on Legendary and its actually a blast...for the first time im really enjoying Destiny. If your thinking about giving it a go, nows a good time (plot doesnt really matter tbh) but it ll help if you have someone to show you the ropes or it can be confusing.
Returnal Beat third biome last week and have been dragging my feet about returning (pun intended). Tbh doing that third area had me close to quitting...having to respec your character, every single restart is a pain, and this is from a Souls vetrean, who also loved The Persistence and Rogue Legacy etc. Love the gameplay and weird plot, just as a fulltime working dad, am tired of 40 mins progress being tossed away cause of one mistake.
Spyro the Dragon: Reignited Trilogy Finished the first this week, will check the second. Really nice switch your brain off games, collect and explore and chill. Plus really intresting seeing Insomniacs beginings.
PC Game Pass Aliens: Fireteam Playing a match here and there. Am a diehard aliens fan so the novelty factor gives this lots of points, however the content is pretty bare, and after i give all the main missons a go, i dont see much point in returning.
The Forgotten City Very cool this one. Witty dialogue, clever twists and great premise. Shows 12 Minutes how to do this timeloop concept properly.
A correction on your Resistance Retribution blurb: Bend never worked on SOCOM, that was Zipper Interactive. Bend started off with the Syphon Filter games though?
PS5 Returnal This one has got me hooked finally. I'm a Souls fan through and through so took some adjusting to this one's specific tough but fair ruleset. Just finished the first boss and biome. @Ryany yeah i love part 4 as well, its in my top 3 best games ever, but to say that 4 and 8 are nothing alike is a bit of stretch. Never cared about trophies, not hating on them their just not my thing, so this won't make a difference for me.
Re: Future Games Show will Present Around 40 Games with Summer Showcase
40 games? Great. How many of them will i remember? These shows need a quality over quantity approach...you know, like E3 back in the day.
