I got it downloaded but I have only managed to play about 5 hours so far. You have to grind a bit with the side content to ensure you are the right level for the main quests. Right now DD2 and Rise of the Ronin are taking up most of my time. I can imagine with the other upcoming games I might not finish this one until the summer along with P3R.
Hopefully June - Aug in 2024 is merciful on us with backlogs. Usually it's the less desirable games that come out during this time so I really hope Star Wars Outlaws is a September onwards launch. (I don't mind games like saints row coming out haha).
I love it. Nearly 50 hours in it has been outstanding. Only a few minor technical issues have stopped this from being what I would regard as the perfect game for me. I am enjoying it a lot more than Rise of The Ronin which I picked up the same day.
I end up having play sessions of 5-6 hours each time and the time just flies by. That's why I'd rate it 10/10 for myself.
@LifeGirl It will still come out on the basePS5 though, even if the launch does slip into 2026. If anyone can get a game running great on weaker hardware it's R*.
A Juggle between Dragons Dogma 2, Rise of The Ronin, Unicorn Overlord and Persona 3 Reload! (DD2 should get the most time on this long Easter weekend).
After 30 hours with lots left to do I can safely say I really love the game.
I also hated BG3 and quit after 20 hours. Both games are great, we all just have different tastes. What matters is what you enjoy, and understanding what that is through learned experiences.
I know for western games I prefer action and for JRPG's/Most eastern games I much prefer turn based combat as an example. Occasionally the 10/10 reviews get the better of me (BG3) but you should always follow your gut on what you know you'll like.
From a hardware, services (PS Plus/PS Store) and Network point of view it has never been better. The PS5 offers amazing value for money given the tech inside it. The controller is also innovative and very well made.
The software however has been weak. Jim Ryan was trying to play it safe with sequels, remasters and 2P deals. The innovation that brought us the first Uncharted, TLOU, Days Gone, Detroit Become Human, Infamous, GOT etc is really lacking this gen.
The PS5 has so much potential and something like GTA 6 will show what the PS5 can really do. Sadly most devs these days don't have the money or talent to achieve that and look for shortcuts to profit.
@Nepp67 Getting to the capital in the Bakbattahl region on the main roads is a nightmare! I have to get some +10 levelled pawns just to cope and I was at Level 29. I also went off the main path where I could. I still died like 3 times!
I shall check out the demo today. The combat difficulty will decide if I pick this up or not. I already have Eiyuden Chronicles Hundred Heroes ready for April 21st.
Edit, the gameplay, the game performance. graphics and story are a lot better than I thought they would be. It has that Sony level of polish. Even the music is great! The combat is pretty hard for someone like myself even on the Story mode but it is enjoyable enough for me to preserve. I was even able to beat a boss in the boss challenge mode on regular difficulty after some practice! I plan on picking the game up on my payday.
I tested it in and around the main town, and the capped 30fps mode actually seems worse due to some frame pacing issues. The RT and motion blur off also don't make much difference so I have ended up just keeping the same settings! The game looks a lot flatter and last gen without the RT with makes a significant difference to lighting. I found for me at least the motion blur actually seems to smooth out the variable frame drops better than without. It is good however to have the option for people who get motion sickness or eye problems to turn it off.
They need to work on the CPU side of things with the NPS's to get frames up. Maybe an option to lower the number of non quest based NPC's would be a good start. The more NPC's you interact with as the game goes on, the worse the main city's fps gets.
I would love another Vampyr sequel, it was a great game. I enjoyed playing Life is Stranger 2 and I have Twin Mirror in my backlog. Banishers looks to be in the same ilk and I may pick it up in the summer once it goes a bit further on discount and I have cleared down my backlog a bit.
I hope Sony implements hall effect sensors for their next controller as it almost completely eliminates stick drift. I wonder if they keep the traditional sensors due to cost or purposeful degradation?
To be fair I have been pretty lucky with stick drift. I only got it with one PS4 Dualshock and one Xbox One Controller. Both times I dropped the controller so it was my fault. If you drop the controller on a hard surface it messes up the sensors. I expect the majority of in warranty stick drift is due to people dropping their controllers.
I brought a new Dualsense today as I like to have a back up controller just in case, plus I never keep the same controller more than 2 years (I sell it and get the new one for about half price).

@leonel_1511 Agreed you can see that they never designed the game around the 30fps cap.

I wouldn't mind some substantial DLC that expands the story or the map areas.

Something about this leaves me sceptical and I cannot put my finger on it yet.
