@jt887 You mean the fanbase that paid $16 for a Game pass subscription in September to play Starfield, instead of buying the game outright? I've said it many times, Sony could announce Spider-Man for Xbox tomorrow and Xbox fanboys would whine if the game weren't coming to Game Pass. The first vs third party exclusive argument also falls apart because of Spider-Man. Insomniac is a first party developer and yet apparently that is still a problem. If it's such a problem that Insomniac and Spider-Man are first party, why isn't it also a problem that Bethesda and Starfield are first party for Xbox? Personally, I wouldn't care for a second if Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth or Spider-Man go to Xbox or Nintendo. More people get to play the games that I love? Great. I'm sure some Sony fanboys' heads would explode just as Xbox fanboys' heads did when a game almost none of them played, Pentiment, was announced for PS4/5 and Switch.
This isn't much of a news story. Helldivers II has been the biggest game of the month and launched at the beginning of February. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launched on the last day of February (and one one less platform) so not really a fair comparison. Glad both games are doing well.
@DennisReynolds Miles Morales was also a much smaller game than Spider-Man 2. And it's not like Insomniac had some massive data breach that they had to contend with. Shame on them for taking so long to get this FREE update out.
@OneWingedAngel Only Xbox fanboys are trying to claim that the game is "underperforming" due to exclusivity. Like they would have bought the game anyway had it released on Xbox. Most likely, they would've complained the game isn't on Game Pass and not played it.
Context is key here. This is only physical sales and does not include digital which is far and away, in 2024, the far more common way games are bought.
@Keyblade-Dan FF7 Remake was not extremely divisive. There were some people who disagreed with the direction it went, but the discourse was never as toxic as say the discourse around The Last of Us Part II.
This isn't even remotely shocking. Final Fantasy VII is arguably the most important game in Playstation's history as it is maybe THE game that put the PS1 on the map. Final Fantasy VII Remake wouldn't have even happened if Sony didn't fund the development. I'm sure Sony know how important Final Fantasy is to their brand and history and I'm of the mind that all future mainline games will likely by PS console exclusive. This exclusivity probably extends to Final Fantasy XVI as well.
Geez, WB it's not like you have one of the most bankable pop culture icons (Batman), in an iconic series (Batman Arkham) and instead you decided to spend nearly 10 years making 2 games in Batman's world, in which Batman is barely featured.
I'll get to Dragons Dogma II at some point, but it's not at the top of my list. Without a new Resident Evil to show off (or Devil May Cry), I've got no interest in a Capcom showcase. Wake me up when the Dino Crisis remake gets announced....see you in 500 years.
I've been playing in graphics mode and after like 5 minutes, I stopped noticing the 30 fps once my eyes adjusted. Still, glad to see CBU 1 fixing the performance mode.
@OmegaStriver Dreams was the game, more than most, that desperately needed a PC launch and it just never got one for whatever reason. I'm glad Media Molecule didn't get closed, but I feel bad for everyone at London Studio (and everyone else laid off too).
I really hope that this game does away with a lot of the bloat that Valhalla had. I was ready for Valhalla to be over by about the 25-ish hour mark. Of course, it took me about 70 to reach the end credits....
@Sil_Am London Studio should have been working on something like The Getaway, which could have filled a niche that has been lost in a post-GTAV world. Instead the were relegated to making VR games and a live service (like all of Sony's studios). Japan Studio still hurts years later, but at least their legacy lives in on Team Asobi.
@MrMagic They needed to just make a new Getaway and fill a niche that has been left abandoned in the wake of 3 GTA V remasters. Instead, Jim Ryan's ill-fated live service push as proven to be such a misfire that it has derailed Sony's plans for several years it seems and affected thousands of employees' lives.
This is awful. It seems to be another horrid side effect of Sony's ill-fated live-service push. All of the studios listed were working on live-service games: London Studio, Naughty Dog, Insomniac, and Guerilla. Hopefully the laid off devs get back on their feet quickly.
@Decoy_Snake When Destiny released, Bungie had already split from Microsoft and had a very cold relationship with them. When Destiny released is when Sony began partnering with them. If I recall correctly, Sony handled a lot of the marketing for Destiny in 2014. It was even a big deal that Bungie was releasing a game on Playstation. Now, if Sony could just get Bungie to make a single player campaign for Marathon....
When I saw this, I just kind of laughed. I won't be getting the platinum in Pentiment (at least not any time soon). But the Pascal Case made me laugh in any event. I was honestly kind of surprised there even was a PlatinumTrophy. I figured Xbox would just skip it.
@TheArt Or Remedy. I can't believe this is Rare's first ever Playstation game. Crazy. Now, I hope Rare Replay comes over. I ree-hee-hee-heeeelly (Dr. Cox extra syllables emphasis) want to platinum Goldeneye.
Can't wait for next Friday. The game currently sits at 93 on Metacritic, which is the highest for a Final Fantasy game since Final Fantasy IX in 2000. Potential GOTY.
@JoakimZ It may still come to switch, recall that there was that leaked image that clearly indicated it would be on Switch. However, it may be a streaming only title.
Will be getting Hi Fi Rush when it releases, I'm excited for it. I may get Pentiment as well. Seems interesting and I want this initiative to pay off so that MS continues to bring games to PS5/Switch.
I mean, spoilers suck, but this game is going on 27 years old now. At some point, you just have to accept that the story is out there. It's basically common knowledge at this point that Vader is Luke's father, but does that mean every conversation about Star Wars has to be prefaced with Spoiler alert? That reveal happened in 1980. I think people need to let it go.
@Cjam36 Phil Spencer seems to be fighting against the upper management. He did not seem enthusiastic in this event and it's clear this isn't his decision.
They basically said almost nothing. They confirmed 4 games are going multiplatform (likely Hi Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded). They did NOT deny that Starfield and Indiana Jones may eventually come to PS5/Switch. The only real thing of note is that they seemingly are continuing with day and date on Game Pass. I though, for sure, they were ending that.
@Americansamurai1 Bend has two more games actually. One on PS2 and one on Vita. Sony really needs to add Vita to PS Plus. It would finally be a way to play Uncharted Golden Abyss outside of Vita.
@JSnow2 Pretty much. This is going to be 90 minutes of corporate BS and classic Phil Spencer double speak. I think, the bombshell though, won't be Xbox games going to Switch and PS5, but rather MS ending the practice of putting new games on Game Pass day 1. Oh, can you imagine the vitriol of the Xbox fanboys for that announcement?
@__jamiie I agree that it's time we see what else new they are working on. But at least TLOU2 remastered gives a plethora of new content and isn't just a straight port of TLOU2.
@GeminiReign I think that is how you are supposed to feel. Just like, you are supposed to feel angry and hurt and to want revenge on Abby at all costs. It's just that a few people never moved on from that point (or, let's be real here, probably didn't actually even play the game at all).

Re: Sony Partner Deviation Games Shuttered Before Shipping Its First PS5 Project
Another casualty of Sony's short-sighted live-service initiative.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
10, outstanding. I have been having nothing but fun with it since I started. Can't wait to finish it and look forward to part 3.

@Toot1st But would that be enough to justify Square Enix spending money to port it?

Not sure what they expected. This was a game no one asked for from a genre that is very, very hard to be successful in (live-service).
