Re: Japan Sales Charts: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Tops, But Doesn't Even Come Close to Remake

theSpectre

@jt887 You mean the fanbase that paid $16 for a Game pass subscription in September to play Starfield, instead of buying the game outright? I've said it many times, Sony could announce Spider-Man for Xbox tomorrow and Xbox fanboys would whine if the game weren't coming to Game Pass. The first vs third party exclusive argument also falls apart because of Spider-Man. Insomniac is a first party developer and yet apparently that is still a problem. If it's such a problem that Insomniac and Spider-Man are first party, why isn't it also a problem that Bethesda and Starfield are first party for Xbox? Personally, I wouldn't care for a second if Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth or Spider-Man go to Xbox or Nintendo. More people get to play the games that I love? Great. I'm sure some Sony fanboys' heads would explode just as Xbox fanboys' heads did when a game almost none of them played, Pentiment, was announced for PS4/5 and Switch.

Re: Sony Secures Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy as PlayStation Console Exclusives

theSpectre

This isn't even remotely shocking. Final Fantasy VII is arguably the most important game in Playstation's history as it is maybe THE game that put the PS1 on the map. Final Fantasy VII Remake wouldn't have even happened if Sony didn't fund the development. I'm sure Sony know how important Final Fantasy is to their brand and history and I'm of the mind that all future mainline games will likely by PS console exclusive. This exclusivity probably extends to Final Fantasy XVI as well.

Re: Reaction: The Problem with PlayStation Right Now

@Sil_Am London Studio should have been working on something like The Getaway, which could have filled a niche that has been lost in a post-GTAV world. Instead the were relegated to making VR games and a live service (like all of Sony's studios). Japan Studio still hurts years later, but at least their legacy lives in on Team Asobi.

Re: 900 PlayStation Employees Laid Off, London Studio Closed

theSpectre

@MrMagic They needed to just make a new Getaway and fill a niche that has been left abandoned in the wake of 3 GTA V remasters. Instead, Jim Ryan's ill-fated live service push as proven to be such a misfire that it has derailed Sony's plans for several years it seems and affected thousands of employees' lives.

Re: Sea of Thieves Will Be the First PlayStation Game in Rare's 39-Year History

@Decoy_Snake When Destiny released, Bungie had already split from Microsoft and had a very cold relationship with them. When Destiny released is when Sony began partnering with them. If I recall correctly, Sony handled a lot of the marketing for Destiny in 2014. It was even a big deal that Bungie was releasing a game on Playstation. Now, if Sony could just get Bungie to make a single player campaign for Marathon....

Re: Random: New York Times Posts Decades-Old Final Fantasy 7 Spoilers on Front Page

theSpectre

I mean, spoilers suck, but this game is going on 27 years old now. At some point, you just have to accept that the story is out there. It's basically common knowledge at this point that Vader is Luke's father, but does that mean every conversation about Star Wars has to be prefaced with Spoiler alert? That reveal happened in 1980. I think people need to let it go.

Re: Xbox Is Bringing Four Exclusives to PS5, But It Won't Say Which

theSpectre

They basically said almost nothing. They confirmed 4 games are going multiplatform (likely Hi Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded). They did NOT deny that Starfield and Indiana Jones may eventually come to PS5/Switch. The only real thing of note is that they seemingly are continuing with day and date on Game Pass. I though, for sure, they were ending that.

Re: Xbox's Multiplatform Plans to Be Revealed on Thursday

theSpectre

@JSnow2 Pretty much. This is going to be 90 minutes of corporate BS and classic Phil Spencer double speak. I think, the bombshell though, won't be Xbox games going to Switch and PS5, but rather MS ending the practice of putting new games on Game Pass day 1. Oh, can you imagine the vitriol of the Xbox fanboys for that announcement?
