@Ainu20 completely agree 7 out of 10s can be personal GOTY list material if it vibes with you and you can forgive its flaws.
Personally on this game there are enough reviewers whose opinion usually aligns with mine, more often than not, that scored it 6 or less, with good reasoning. Hence I’m less enthused, but might get to it one day, especially if they keep updating it well.
I might play Outlaws down the line, but as I haven't gotten to Immortals: Fenix Rising, Avatar, AC: Odyssey + Valhalla and a few others I want to play more it won't be any time soon!
Hats off to them for that video, it's clear & concise. Told me almost everything I needed to know, especially that you don't need to play Romancing SaGa 1 first, as they are separate games.
Will be interesting to see if they try and change the model and go F2P and try for redemption like Fortnite or FFXVI or if this will end up like Anthem.
@Fiendish-Beaver That Utopia is never coming, or not anytime soon. We already have enough technology to make over half the population unemployed and provide for everyone but that doesn't serve humanity well in the short term. Too many would freak out over such a change. Moreover the people in power, wouldn't stand by and watch it happen as it would disrupt their money printing party too much having to share. Better for them to keep us divided through tribalism as ever.
But i'd love to see what it could mean, more time for things like creativity and the arts. Not in our lifetime anyway.
@Titntin @riceNpea Yep the quality of AI generated content is scarily good. But that doesn't mean I think it's a replacement for creativity.
I am not suggesting that jobs won't be lost because of it. However just as most lamp lighters were lost with the invention and mass adoption of electric street lights at the same time many NEW jobs were created Electrical engineers, power station workers and many more etc. That isn't a solace for the humble lamp lighter who wasn't willing, or able, to retrain and lost out, nor will it be a solace to some VAs.
But I do see a key difference. I don't think Voice Actors are about to be replaced completely, it's a creative role and we will still value a performance above all.
I actually suspect someone like Jennifer Hale will personally benefit from AI. Being able to do more work and have some throw away lines or variations be AI generated, for which she will be paid, while she is working on something else. She stands to get paid MORE if she is savvy. Troy Baker was likely too far ahead of the curve here and got destroyed for it.
The bigger cuts will be where they always are, at the bottom of the chain, not at her end. Which does present a problem for the next generation coming through, this is what they cut their teeth on, that is the biggest problem that needs solving imho. I don't pretend to have the answers for that.
And this is based on old AI tech, you really can make anyone say anything with only a tiny amount of existing dialogue and the video AI (not seen here) is making that side of it seem real too
@riceNpea While I agree about the attack on freedom of speech, and that is a big concern, I don't really think that is relative to THIS particular discussion and is just a distraction to it.
As for Twitter I think/hope in 20 years social media will be viewed like smoking or gambling. tolerated but frowned upon and banned to kids.
@riceNpea Completely agree. However that doesn't diminish the fact that some jobs will be lost as a result and if you are in the firing line then it can be a big worry. I don't blame individuals for being worried, change is scary.
But energy would be better spent trying to get ahead of any changes, which are coming - you can't halt it much - and it presents a huge opportunity for those willing to be more flexible and open to change. That is a little harder in the case of something like Voice Acting granted, but Hale was talking more widely.
At the end of the day I fundamentally don't believe any sensible country would allow AI to take over jobs without replacing them elsewhere, just as they didn't for the wheel, steam, electricity, robotics, computers etc, as IF it did and caused mass unemployment or mass unhappiness there would very quickly be a rebellion. It is in countries best interests to keep the people employed and working. The alternative is utter bedlam. Humans returned to animals & anarchy.
Wow! It is rare for a developer to be so blunt and upfront and push the blame directly on to a company like Microsoft like this. There's two sides to every story but kudos on them being so direct.
For everyone saying "Too expensive" what do they (honestly) think they should charge for access to 1,300+ games? £39.99 a year seems reasonable to me IF you are going to use the service for it to be a viable product. Less than the price of a coffee a month.
However my issue with the service is more to do with the environment. Most of these games would run on a potato (or 5v Raspberry Pi) and are just a few kilobytes or megabytes in size, yet they want to have a server farm running, and the internet with game streaming, and your PS5 to play these. That seems about the most wasteful way you could possibly try and play these. Like bringing nukes to a game of rock, paper, scissors.
@WhiteRabbit As I said on another website it's almost certain the people who made those decisions are LONG gone. Since Suicide Squad was conceived, and the decisions were made, Rocksteady's parent company Warner Bros (Time Warner at the time) have been acquired by AT&T in 2018, rebranded to WarnerMedia, then divested and merged with Discovery in 2022 to become Warner Bros. Discovery. Each merger or restructuring would have shunted out a lot of execs, especially in gaming and other media as their focus has been almost entirely on Movies and TV.
Of course the execs would have had a golden handshake but it's highly likely most of the people who forced Suicide Squad down that path are long gone too.
@riceNpea and before that many of us had mates who worked at Dixons, Currys or elsewhere who would slip the games to us a little early. I used to play most big titles up to a week early, as soon as they got stock, but there was no internet to brag about or spoil it. Nor any interest in doing so.
Free to play, and PS+ is the only chance for this game sadly. That isn't an easy or quick change, and how do they appease day 1 buyers. Hard decisions if they want to keep it going.
I ALREADY wait for sales and discounts on most games I buy, not least that most games need months of patching to be at their best and have all features added post launch. Why pay the most for the worst version of a product? If they want me to buy day 1 they need to stop releasing half baked products.
That said for a very few select games I would pay a little more. e.g. Zelda, God of War, Naughty Dog. But I can't think of much else.
@DaniPooo I suspect it will use the slim disc drive, I didn’t say otherwise, was just stating that if there isn’t a disc option there is no sale for me and I’m sure many others.
But yes I would prefer an integrated drive as the separate drive is £100 in the UK. Though I understand it makes more business sense for Sony to use the same one I doubt we will see the cost savings as consumers. The main reason is I can see the drives being sold out/scalped separately.
@PuppetMaster The link you shared was to an article from 2013 on the Internet archive. But a google suggests you are right they have been cutting staff and might close the studio according to a Bloomberg report.
There seems to be a real divide in scores on this one. Unfortunately the reviewers I tend to follow, who have similar taste, all put this on the lower side (4, 5 or 6 out of 10) but more importantly listening to their complaints puts me off. That makes it an at best "wait for a deep sale, and if you have time" sort of game for me. Shame, I was hoping for so much more.
30th Anniversary... time flies. I've bought so many of these in sales over the years but haven't finished one yet. Perhaps I will change that for the 30th Anniversary.
@DreamlandGem Nice! Haven't really got my teeth into Natlan yet as i've been away and am catching up on more pressing deadlines in other live services (why do we play these like jobs at times. lol) Enjoy!
@Legionari I agree it probably will, for the reasons you gave, but will be wary until confirmed. Besides the PS5 slim disc drive is a pricey £100 add that to whatever cost the Pro model costs.
@Johnnycide I agree with some of your points, but the trouble with your argument is that Returnal may be a great game but it won’t have made Sony much money in total, even if the budget was lower. Estimates and leaks show around half a million sales initially and just over 1 million total many of which would have been cheaper sales. This is small fry for Sony with no recurring revenue.
Your list names some failures but meanwhile Sony can SEE on their own PSN balance sheets the huge amounts of money COD, Fortnite, Genshin, FIFA/sports, GYA Online, HSR, Apex and many more make for their publishers and they understandably want a larger slice of that pie.
I might not like it personally, like you I prefer full paid games, but it makes a lot of business sense to try and get a live service hit. You only need one to really pop-off to succeed.
@NEStalgia I didn't say they should increase default deadzones making it less responsive. I am saying they should give us the CHOICE to be able to adjust them and make them larger if needed. I suspect for most players given the choice between spending another £60 for a new controller and making it a little less responsive most would chose the later. That is a software issue.
Additionally testing on my PC the deadzones only need to be increased a tiny amount to remove drift on my two controllers I doubt most players, who aren't competitive gamers, would even notice.
@NEStalgia Re: Hall Effect yes I agree. It I was talking about the sticks in the current PS5 pads which are FAR too over sensitive which leads to drift. That is a software issue
@Nekomichu I have two Day 1 DualSense’s with drift that when plugged into pc for testing have less percentage drift than my PS4 controllers which don’t drift on PS4. It’s a software issue mostly, the sticks are exactly the same as in PS4 pads, which makes it all the more annoying they don’t let us calibrate the dead zone for standard PS5 pads.
@Malaise @Th3solution Honestly I find these "no more Troy Baker" posts a bit bizarre. His voice changes from role to role, just compare Joel (TLOU) to The Joker (Many Batman games and animations) to Revolver Ocelot (MGSV) and many many more to his real voice in his podcasts. He rarely has the same voice and many times it's not even noticeable it's him until you see the credits or check Moby Games or IMDB. Personlly from the footage we've seen I think he's doing a great job of younger Indy!
As it turns out, though, Digital Foundry has identified an additional performance mode problem that we never quite picked up on.
I like Digital Foundry, I’m a subscriber, but they can be pedants about this sort of thing. The truth is most people DON’T realise the minutiae that they do, and they often make mountains out of molehills.
